  2. "Um. That... Wow." Ghost Girl's ephemeral face flickered with a mixture of emotions, none of them positive. Even at a distance the surge of panic the fire pouring forth from the bizarre floating fortress clawed outward from her stomach, trying to force its way up her throat even as she concentrated on remaining calm, trying to imagine it as the massive statue's hair and nothing else. At least it mostly distracted her from wondering why Steelgrave would build his workshop to look like a woman-- assuming it had even been 'built' and not something much, much more disturbing. She wasn't even going to consider the 'pleasure palace' part of Tarva's introduction if she could at all help it. "That's just pretty heinous, you guys. Do... do I want to ask where the entrance is...?"

At TNTeen's command the glowing spheres of destructive energy detonated, the bright flashes briefly obscuring the snake patterned robot suit below the knees. As the light subsided, however, the Heliopolians and Claremont students could clearly see that it's metal hide had weathered the explosions without suffering any obvious damage. The remaining free cultist took advantage of the flash to scamper into an advantageous position behind a newspaper stand, its operator having wisely fled when he saw the green behemoth stomping down the street towards his place of business. A round of automatic fire cracked through the air toward Set but the godling always managed to be just to one side of where the zealot was firing, if only just.

  8. "Aha, well, blessed and most shiniest Ra knows I be the last to discourage someone from forcibly dealing themselves a new hand from fate's dispassionate deck," Set began, placing and arm around the gawky teen's shoulders and snapping the fingers of his other hand. Immediately the godling had become a perfect double for the wolfskin belt's owner including a total lack of clothing, albeit with the lean, muscular physique of an underwear model, a completely flawless complexion and noticeably more generous proportions. "Even so," he continued in what the awkward young man's voice might have sounded like after considerable work with a vocal couch, "I equally speak from experience when I say accepting objects of mystic power from strangers be an open call for all manner of troubles." His elder self had typically been the gift-bearing stranger in that scenario but the advice was still sound. Sekhmet grew visibly more and more annoyed as Set went on until finally she let out a loud growl and stepped forward, her head replaced by the visage of a scowling lioness as quickly as the shorter Heliopolian had shifted his shape. "RrrraAWR! Enough!" she snarled, pointing an angry finger at the still nameless youth. "Thou claim kinship with wolves, mortal? Little wonder thou lost control, a misshapen, mindless lump of cheated flesh! Rrowww, a domesticated, berry-gathering, herd--" "Hold, Sekhmet!" Set interrupted hotly, back in his customary bronze skin and brick red dreadlocks as he stepped around to place himself between the irate goddess and the target of her anger. "You are being extremely cispredator normative. Tis no way to hold a productive discussion and in truth I expected better from you!" Hands on his hips he gave her a stern look of disapproval, standing on the toes of his sandals so as to come closer to looking her evenly in the eyes. The warrior deity scoffed. "The herbivore be qualified to interject, now?" "Oh, here we go!
  9. Trevor subtly raised one hand in a forestalling gesture, taking note of the guards still within earshot. Producing a minimalist business card from an inner pocket of his jacket, he handed it to Aquaria with a small tilt of his chin, saying, "Continue later." That done, he led Erin back down the hall the way they'd come until they had a modicum of privacy. "Good news: Jesse had nothing to do with Accolon's family. He mistook her." Pausing for a moment, the taciturn detective considered his wording carefully before proceeding. "From medieval world Merlin created. Anchored like you, evidently, remembers that reality. Remembers his family there. ...remembers who restored this world." Trevor was silent, giving Erin a chance to absorb the implication on her own.

  12. Gyges bellowed in pain as Tiamat closed her jaws around his shoulder, a hundred hands clenching in pain. The giant stumbled about for a few moments as the dragon flew back into the air, clamping one of those hands on the bleeding wound and struggling to maintain his balance. Sekhmet did not give him any time to recover, letting loose a menacing yowl as she darted between his legs before leaping first onto the side of a nearby building then rebounding off to land between the titan's shoulder blades, raking her claws in a crisscross pattern. She found frustratingly little purchase in the thick hide there, however, dropping back down to the street as her foe began to recover from the surprise of his injuries.

  14. Trevor blinked one behind his sunglasses as he reprocessed Aquaria's abrupt change in subject, distracted as he was by more pressing matters, watching for Erin to come back into the hallway. "Engine...? Ah. Fast food grease. Reasonable." Meals that came in dripping paper bags hadn't been a fixture in his childhood and he'd found that where some of his classmates at Claremont and later FCU found the instantly recognizable aroma of chain burger joints nostalgic and comforting he mostly found it mildly nauseating. It wasn't hard to empathize with the amphibian woman's desire to avoid that sort of employment. "Wealthy, yes, by some measures. Hnh. Not the time but could assist job hunt. Skills?" The Hunters didn't own any large businesses directly but between a truly impressive portfolio and numerous contracts they did have significant pull when they cared to exert it. If Aquaria was remotely employable he suspected he'd be able to at least get her an interview somewhere promising. It was actually a bit of a refreshing change to help someone in his civilian identity.
  15. "Well, it's not really an illusion so much as-- oh! Right, I can do that!" Coasting backward and upward through the air until she was in clear view, the phantom's expression grew serious as she added, "You should probably close your eyes for this." A wave of luminance exploded outward from her, light that cut chilling to the bone even in the already freezing forest. Ghost Girl's limbs stretched and thinned while her reaper's cloak rippled like the disturbed surface of a pond and took on the appearance of a sheer gown cut in sharp angles. While her hair lengthened and took on an ephemeral blue shade her face looked older, losing all trace of softness among impossibly defined cheekbones and delicately arched eyebrows. He beauty was inhuman and terrible to behold, entrancing and absolute. "I am ice. I am death. And why should you flee," the radiant figure intoned with the same inflection as a monarch ordering an execution, "when you could kneel."

  17. Retrieving a silk handkerchief from inside his jacket, Trevor wiped the mucus from Aquaria's handshake from his fingers as politely as possible, listening attentively to the frog woman's recounting of the conflict. It was sounding more and more like Accolon had some connection to the medieval world that had briefly rewritten reality and if he was looking for someone to blame for the truth reasserting itself it occurred to the dark haired detective that it hadn't been Jesse he recognized but someone with the same face. Letting out a slow, silent breath, he pinched the bridge of his nose with his empty hand. "Hn. Thank you. Beginning to understand." Taking note of Aquaria's continued distress, he added with the slight hesitation of someone unused to providing comforting words, "Don't worry. Be alright." At least so far as one extradimensional White was concerned.

"Eeh... Poor old Farouk. He truly did try but English was his third language-- ah, wait, forth is one counts the serpent tongue itself," Set reminisced idly as Thoughtspeed critiqued the cultists' chanting. While he mused Sekhmet darted forward back toward the towering robot suit, her fists abruptly lighting up with golden flames. With an inhuman leap she gouged a line of scorched metal across the mech's chassis, using her smaller size to strike lightly armored joints and vents. The goddess roared triumphantly, dropping back down the the pavement near Tsunami. Diving to avoid another blind blast of laser fire, Set scrambled back to his feet. "Fell victim to the Peter Principle. Also to being dropped into a volcano..." The godling winced and rolled his shoulders uncomfortably but remained in the moment enough to gesture arcanely with his hands, sending a whipping wind toward the remaining gunmen carrying a tide of sand that poured impossibly from every nearby crack in the street or surrounding buildings. The first cultist found shelter behind one of the mech's legs while the other was quickly trapped in a dune the size of a minivan. "Ah, did I neglect to mention these fellows may have been employed by my elder self?" the scion of storm asked the Claremont students conversationally, his expression one of innocent absentmindedness. "Well, not these fellows specifically, lest they be a truly sprightly eighty years young. Spells of immortality were beyond their ken--" While he rambled on, the neon green glow coming from inside the armored juggernaut intensified noticeably, tendrils of energy stretching forth and twisting about the suit's frame. Set's shadowstuff burned away from the windscreen at the energy's touch and the damage TNTeen had inflicted to its clawed arm filled back in as if hammered out from the inside. "Enchanted plutonium, conversely..."

    Midnight Dynasty

The cloud came to an abrupt stop midair, quickly solidifying most of the way back into the recognizable silhouette of Mystery, though her legs remained gaseous and indistinct past the knees as she regarded the shadowy figure on the lawn uncertainly. "Oh, um, I-- I think I found him?" she reported over the radio, backing up slowly and casting about for some sort of cover or weapon as the horrible void that eluded her psionic senses almost leisurely began to turn its attention toward her. "What's going on inside? Is-- is everyone alr--" Interrupting her question came a great shattering crash as Midnight burst through the second storey window, knees bent and a million shards of glass exploding outward in his wake, a pitch black streak of ice cold retribution arcing through the air. Vaulting with the extended staff in his hands, he landed with a staggering, two-handed overhead blow that the time-traveling intruder blocked with some difficulty. "Enough." The word has barely more than a whisper but it cut through the air like the whistling slash of a blade, reverberating with ironclad certainty. Continuing with his forward momentum, Midnight smoothly split the staff back into a pair of escrima sticks that whirled about to assault his target from every angle. Weathering the blows, the monstrous assassin was forced back a step, then another, while each impact splashed chemicals across his cloak. Where the liquids from each blunt instrument met they immediately foamed in a chemical reaction that spread like wildfire for an instant before hardening with the strength of concrete. Within seconds the dark figure was crisscrossed with uneven grey lumps of constricting epoxy, slowing his moments and making it impossible for him to block Midnight's increasingly effective flurry of blows. "Um, Dad...?" With both arms outstretched, Mystery concentrated and in response the ornate fountain around which the manor's driveway curved shuddered then lifted itself out of the ground and into the air. Broken pipes spurted water about the resulting crater while the huge mass of smooth stone and artistic statues spun slightly like a gigantic, unwieldy discus. "Move." Throwing her arms forward, the teenager pushed with all of her telekinetic might and sent the fountain hurtling right toward the impeded, faceless foe. Midnight somersaulted backward and out of the way just as it came crashing down with enough force to shake the ground under his feet, completely burying its target in rubble.
  22. As Erin had suggested, Trevor hung back in the hallway once they arrived at Jesse's door, giving the pair of guards a faint expression of acknowledgement that could have been interpreted as a polite smile but which possessed an undercurrent of appraisal from behind the his sunglasses that left the highly trained and capable men feeling vaguely uneasy. The soft spoken heir's body language remained relaxed, even slightly hunched as he gave his girlfriend an encouraging tilt of his chin before turning to the amphibian looking woman with a more overtly friendly manner. "Hello. Trevor Hunter," he introduced himself, extending a hand. "You're Jessie's roommate? Did you see what happened?"
