  2. Midnight's footfalls were as silent on the floor of the research base as they had been on the snow, the uniform, light devouring shade of his outfit making his form indistinct between Edge's crisp UNISON colors and Cobalt Templar's blazing blues. Silently gliding along in the middle of the group, he narrowed his eyes behind the ruby tinted lenses of his mask, focusing on the longer wavelengths afforded to him by his metahuman eyes. In the frigid temperatures of Antarctica the heat rising from Alvarez and anyone else in the facility stood out starkly. He wasn't about to jump to any conclusions over a slightly nervous security guard but one of Trevor's first lessons when taking up the mantle of Midnight was that it was better to see someone else coming first that the other way around.

  4. "Benefit of doubt," Trevor suggested in a voice almost imperceptibly more gentle than his usual soft, even tone. "Made progress. One mistake doesn't make that untrue." Continuing to scroll through the document in front of him at least in part to maintain the veil of nonchalance over his assessment, he grunted. "Hnh. Might not be a mistake, even. Few names here worth punching." The rehabilitation goals of Project Freedom was laudable and had unquestionably had its notable successes but some of its benefactors strained the limits of deserving a second chance by his estimation.

There was a creak of metal as the arm of the mech suit shuddered under TNTeen's assault, giving Sekhmet the opportunity to push off against the building's wall and slip through its pincers. Dropping down to the street with feline grace, the goddess landed silently in a three point crouch and immediately rolled backward, placing some distance between herself and the blinded war machine's feet. Registering their displeasure with more shouting and bizarre chanting, the four militant cultists still on their feet trained their weapons on Thoughtspeed, quickly filling the street with scything streams of red hot darts, smaller versions of the mech suit's giant laser cannon. Despite their prolific rate of fire, the psychic speedster stayed a step ahead, zipping between his attackers and nimbly avoiding their fire.

  11. Trevor had already retrieved their jackets by the time Erin had hung up the phone, stopping briefly to ask Redbird to transfer herself into a vehicle more appropriate for the heavy rain. With the autonomic machine intelligence projecting her statuesque chauffeur hologram in the driver's seat of the stately black sedan, the Hunter heir was free to pull up his dossiers on Project Freedom's inmates. It had seemed prudent to keep close tabs on the program's roster of at-risk metahumans and convicts once Singularity had been accepted, particularly given how regularly both Erin and Eve had been visiting Jesse. He'd been keeping his distance for the most part, by contrast, not entirely sure where the two-time dimensional refugee's experiences with his own Anti-Earth doppelganger, The Blank, left them and not wanting to place any additional strain on her apparently fragile stability. "Roland Accolon," he read aloud, skimming through the document on his handheld tablet. "Hnh. Low-level metahuman. Picked up off the streets, talking about sorcerers... Tt. Just after you stopped Merlin debacle."

"The Great Serpent shall grant us victory over the unbelievers!" one of the snake cultists cried at the top of his lungs as Thoughtspeed thinned out their ranks, joined by his brethren with frenzied, shouted chants in a language none of the Claremont students recognized. "We shall strike down the false one! Fangri-la! Fangri-la!" With a low, rumbling growl Sekhmet pushed mightily against a metal digit that was as wide across as her own torso, struggling to free herself from the giant claw of the metallic green war machine. "Rrrr... Thy meaningless prattle be worse than thy artifact beast, heretics." Despite her words the warrior goddess made very little headway, pinned against the side of the building and unable to do much more than glower at the pilot of the mech suit. "For once we be in agreement, oh She Before Whom Evil Trembles!" Set called up to his inconvenienced parole officer, observing with some relief that he hadn't accidentally shanghaied anyone limited to preternatural translation or the superhuman power of a poor upbringing. "We shall have you down posthaste, I'm sure!" Gathering a handful of raw shadowstuff between his hands and rolling it about like a snowball, the godling closed one eye to better aim then hurled the inky projectile at the transparent face of the mech suit. The globule splattered across the glass and spread, blinding the pilot inside as surely as tar. "Ha ha!" His exclamation was somewhat premature as the cultist manning the robotic juggernaut responded by firing the laser cannon that made up the suit's other hand wildly, aiming in the general direction of the young heroes. One lucky blast would have caught Tsunami squarely but by the time the attack hit her protective barrier of water the senior student was narrowly able to roll out of the way.

  15. I'll call that a success, troll! Feel free to get an IC post up describing Eliza doing her thing.
  16. Unimpressed, the Broan mercenary snarled in a way that curled his upper lip away from his prominent tusks and began to level his weapon at the Lor commando. He'd barely had time to twitch before Seven dropped into a firing pose on one knee and had already squeezed off a pair of shots with her rifle, the first leaving a blackened, smoking scar through the alien's chest plate and the second toppling him backward into the rest of his boarding party. "Hard way it is," she deadpanned in the beat of silence that followed. The remaining mercenaries roared in response, a few managing to take shots wide of there targets before all of the combatants staggered to the left as the ship's artificial gravity struggled to keep up with the breakneck maneuvers Myshel Czak was using to evade their pursuers.

    Midnight Dynasty

As the expanding cloud of mist rolled past him, Hematite forced himself back to his feet and took another swing at their implacable foe, apparently determined to ignore Erin's instructions to keep his distance. He was moving more slowly than before, however, almost raggedly and the haymaker went wide of his target as the floating shadow simply slid a half pace through the air. With an annoyed grunt, the time traveler rocked back on his heels, regained his balance and retreated a few steps. He was far from out of the fight but had to admit the need for a new strategy. Racing up the stair beside Tensile, Daybreak's eyes tinted red and filled in with black between blinks. "Make way for the party crashers, Smiley!" he called out to the mouthless intruder, scanning the hectic fight for the best opportunity to rush into action.

Pique adopted a wounded expression, placing his free hand over his heart. "Ah, you haven't told your lovely lady wife about me?" he asked Erik reproachfully. "Yeah, I guess somehow she missed seeing all those family photos you were around for," the younger man shot back bitingly, teeth grinding slightly while he rolled his shoulders and forced them to relax. "Weird." Letting out a slow, controlled breath the fencer cracked his neck once then folded his arms across his chest. "Min, meet my father. Y'know, French expatriate, former Jack of Swords, the guy who walked out on us before mi hermana was born..." This time the Frenchman's wince was subtler and less theatrical but he didn't argue the point. "Oui, well, perhaps it's not so surprising I wasn't invited to the wedding, non. I don't suppose you would accept my congratulation, hm?" With a shrug that bought him a moment to regain his composure, Pique continued, "Still, I am the lesser evil afoot aujourd'hui!"
  20. "That's idea, gal," the Chief confirmed as he and Temperance finally made it to a section of the engine deck with a high ceiling, a cylinder of open space surrounding what Eliza could infer was the fusion reactor partly from K'ilo's body language as they arrived and partly from the sheer number of alarms going off on the terminals ringing the room. Steam was blasting from one side of the reactor at irregular intervals and it was hard to guess if it was supposed to be glowing quite so brightly. "Alright, alright..." the portly technician mutter largely to himself as he jogged over to one of the computer interfaces. "I can stabilize this. Just need time... Those are the water intakes," he told the human teen, pointing upward to a number of pipes that started at the top of the chamber, ran down the walls and then into the base of the reactor. "If you can keep the piece of spratz cool long enough maybe we all get to keep our atoms arranged the way we like them." * * * * * On the bridge, Ellie found not a transparent, forward-facing windshield but a circular room with wall nearly covered in tactical readouts and projected images from different sides of the ship. The stations spread out through the middle of the room were manned by an even mix of Lor in uniforms similar to the one worn by the technician in the teleportation chamber and other species in more eclectic clothing. The latter greeted Czak's entrance with a hearty cheer and several raised fists while the former maintained composure and continued to work as the ship was rocked by another hit. "Statustate?" the blue skinned woman demanded as she vaulted over a railing and seated herself in the very center of the room, her chair swiveling about in three dimensions. "Better if you're takin' the helm, Captain," a massive purple alien responded, nearly ten feet tall and almost as wide but still managing to tap away at his console with surprising dexterity. "These blighters must have a Lor tac-server hooked up, they're adapting to the auto maneuvers too fast, see?" "Impossible!" the blond haired Lor stationed next to him blurted indignantly, looking a little embarrassed by the outburst as soon as he said it. "That is-- Those tac-servers are carefully protected!" A pair of complicated controls rose out of Czak's chair to rest under each of her outstretched hands. "Not so neverchance," she told the irked Lor in a teasing singsong. "We foundhave one, ha! But let us seetest if they preknow this sliplock..." "...I think we better find a place to strap in, Edie," Ellie suggested, adjusting her hold of her niece and preparing to raise her force field again at a moment's notice. * * * * * "You're getting pretty hung up on this 'laser eye' thing," Seven observed, voice filtered slightly from behind the faceplate of her helmet. "You do realize they've almost certainly just go plasma weaponry in the fir--" Before the Lor commando could finish her point the lights in the hallway flickered briefly as power fluctuated and in the next instant beams of luminance on either side of the defenders solidified into two even groups of heavily armed aliens flanking the trio. A few were hulking, armored brutes Chris recognized as Broans, at least two were humanoids with deep teal skin and black eyes without pupils, some appeared to be Lor themselves and the rest were either covered by helmets and combat gear or too odd to describe at a glance. One of the Broan stepped to the front of his comrades and announced in a booming bass, "Give us the senator." "Well, I can guarantee you that's not happening," the red haired officer announced matter-of-factly, leveling her rifle so that its laser sight left a visible red dot on the Broan's forehead. "You should go."

Kimber looked as if she'd been struck by lightning, beaming with so much cheerful excitement there seemed to be a very real danger that she would burst. "Ohmigoodness that is totally outrageous! Tourist attractions are awesome! I mean, duh, right, that why people go to them!" The young woman danced about from foot to foot as she imagined the cave cleaned up a bit for the public, though probably not too much; she knew a thing or two about the importance of cultivating a location's gloomy ambiance. "Plus you're out of the way enough that I bet you'd only get people who like to travel and they always have the best stories! ...although if you can see the future it sort of seems like you should have come up with this sooner."
  22. Ghost Girl Move Action: Back up. Standard Action: Emotion Control 12 (Extras: Area [Perception, +2], Flaws: Range [Touch, -2], Sense Dependent [Vision], Drawback: Power Loss [in Sunlight, -3]) [9PP] (beautiful terror) She'll actually go for 'love' as the emotion here rather than 'fear'. They don't want these things just running out in random directions, after all, and she could get on board with being the queen of a bunch of icy dead giants. That's a DC 22 Will Save. I'm assuming since Temperance knows it's coming she can cover her eyes.

  25. Set immediately straightened up, smoothing and eyebrow with one finger and stepping forward with a pronounced swagger. "Truly, why would you not?" With a burst of genial laughter he slapped the nude teen on the shoulder. "I jest, I jest! Tis ever a pleasure to meet part of the community in the flesh, hah! And worry not about all of..." The godling made a vague gesture that took in all of the skinny youth's form. "...that. A few years, some cardio-- swimming, mayhap? Parkour! Parkour tis very in right now, eh?" Sekhmet made a pointed sound that was less clearing her throat than it was growling menacingly. "Ah, indeed. Harken, my friend, you seem a good sort but you know my stance on trolls in scribes' clothing and attempting to maul random business persons be passingly trollish. These stunningly attractive ladies have too called your accessorizing ability into question," he added with a nod to the belt in Temperance's hands before raising a hand to one side of his mouth and continuing in a quiet, conspiratory tone, "Actual cannibalism be a poor way to draw attention, believe me."
