"Only now you think this is wrong?" Wail drawled flatly as he moved to one side of the hallway to avoid Cimitiere's attack, his broad frame still taking up most of the width. The ineffectiveness of the necromancer's attack didn't bode well but the older hero noticed that the weird claws rebounded off of the ghost rather than simply passing through it. If it was solid enough for that things were back in his field of expertise. Surging forward as Cimitiere stepped back he drove an open palm into the phantom teen's surprisingly corporeal shoulder, carrying his momentum through to crash his target against the wall with enough force to rattle what was left of the building. Tightening his fingers, he pinned the ghost in place, giving it a stony look face to face. "Anytime you want to end this foolishness."

Seeing what Midnight can get from inspecting the unconscious prisoners: Investigate check. (1d20+15=34)
-
Tapping a pair of fingers to the side of his mask over his temple, Midnight nodded silently, taking a slow breath as Eve expanded their psychic link and overlapped their consciousnesses. The black clad detective framed the unusual sensation as applying added processing power to the task, although his temporary access to his petite companion's knowledge of the human psyche informed him that was a simplistic analogy at best. Renarde Bleue was also right about the thoughts she'd siphoned from their fallen foe being tough to pin down. It took Midnight a moment to understand them as beliefs more than memories, recognizing the results of a slippery slope of rationalization and compromise. Eve felt a strong streak of disdain from the principled young man but also a glimmer of recognition and understanding. "Hnh. Nazis briefly bankrolled IRA in the War. Funds, materiel, looking for allies against Britain. Fell through." Stepping over to the unconscious leprechaun, he bent down to examine the thug. "Irish fae made some further deal. Gave up something precious, golden. Want it back."

"Heh, I get the feeling the little sparkplug can take care of any bullies herself," Ellie predicted with a poorly concealed grin a of familial pride. Yolanda was bright enough not to go looking for trouble or picking fights but her adoptive older sister doubted the dimensional refugee would take any abuse lying down. Watching as the girl busied herself flipping over every rock and log she could find about the campsite and examining what was underneath, Ellie tilted her head slightly in consideration. "Hey, you ever think about having kids?" she asked Mara idly, letting Eden grab at her finger.

Stepping through the shadows with Set was a sensation not unlike pushing through black silk curtains that slid accommodatingly past while closing in behind. It might have even been pleasant if not for the brief but acute awareness of absolute nothingness held at bay by nothing but those same wafting curtains. The feeling lasted only a split second before they emerged and the godling himself seemed completely unperturbed, planting his hands on his hips and looking about the room's oddities. Unfortunately, he did so directly in front of the shadowed corner that had allowed the small group passage and as she stepped through Sekhmet ran right into him, knocking the smaller Heliopolite into a stand of items that clattered about noisily as he righted himself. "Truly your feline grace is to be envied," Set hissed under his breath, dusting himself off. Sekhmet growled warningly from deep in her throat, looming in the darkened room. "Do not cast blame for thy own lack of poise, serpent." The goddess's nose was wrinkled from the scent of the apartment and her posture made it clear that she was in no mood to have her patience tested. Bristling, Set straightened to as much height as he could managed and glared right back. "Mine?!" he rebutted, the volume of his voice slowly rising. "I should not need to remind you, oh mighty huntress, that we are endeavoring to maintain some modicum of stealth!"

Knowledge (History) check; Aid Another +2. (1d20+12=22) My mistake, Eve has Teamwork 3, so that would be 25 total.
-
Alright, Trevor will make that Knowledge [History] roll but let me pitch this, troll: given their Mental Communication Link, how would you feel about calling that Intelligence roll Eve made an Aid Another of Trevor's Knowledge [History] roll? Or making a separate check for that?

"Well, I would assume," Janet responded lightly as she followed Erin to the table and took a seat. The older woman immediately caught the eye of one of the waiters, who swerved abruptly to head right over with the urgency of some sort of inverted flight or fight response. Trevor slid into the chair next to Erin and across from his mother, quietly ordering a coffee with a polite hint of a nod for the flustered staff member. "Happy to meet expectations." "So sensitive," she chided, ordering a glass of wine for herself and giving Trevor's beverage choice a skeptical look. "When did you start drinking coffee?"

Eden made a sound of concerned inquiry at the change in Mara's tone, rousing from her brief restfulness to reach insistently with both arms in the engineer's direction. The infant grew increasingly distressed until Ellie sidled them close enough that she could pat her little hands against Mara's arm. "She really couldn't," Ellie promised softly, rocking Eden gently in her arms until the baby settled down again. Leaning so that her shoulder knocked lightly into her girlfriend she smiled. "I'd be pretty darn proud if she turned out just like you."

Reluctant though he still was to let the erstwhile Omegadrone out of his sight, LaMarr decided to focus on one enemy at a time. As he's expected Gabriel was easy enough to spot and head toward, particularly with the commotion being caused by the freeing of the factory workers. Finding a pair of largely intact wagons along the way, the super strong veteran hero had soon fashioned himself into a crude ambulance, each mighty arm pulling a cart behind him laden with those bearing the worst injuries. "So," he called to Cannonade as the younger man led another batch of emancipated captives to the growing group, "we know where we're taking this caravan?"

Looking up at the apartment from the street, Sekhmet sniffed the air and made a disgusted face. "Rrh, rot and decay. Thy divination proves more useful than I would have supposed, betrayer." "Haha, I shall let that pass, dear warrior!" Set grinned triumphantly, hands placed on his hips and bare shoulders squared. "Breaking into the shadowy lair, how delightfully novel! Still, I expect we can improve upon the usual formula of announcing our presence and giving the dastard fair warning, yes?" Casting about for a moment he spotted the darkened alleyway beside the apartment complex. Clapping his hands, he bounded over and impossibly continued past the brick wall as his sandal clad foot disappeared into the shadows. Turning back around, he expended his arms, glittering jewelry clattering softly. "If I might have your hands, ladies? No time to be shy, haha!"

"Aw, but Edie luuurves her Auntie Marbar," Ellie laughed, sitting down next to Mara and shifting arms so that she was holding the one year old on the same side as the inventor. Eden responded by reaching up and pressing a tiny palm against the pre-med student's nose and gurgling in amusement. "Honestly, she's just really well-behaved and happy. I've helped out with some babies at the hospital who are just impossible." Ellie had to stop speaking for a moment to make appropriate sound effects as the infant continued to prod at her face curiously. Before too long Eden seems satisfied with her exploration and settled back down with a yawn. "If mi mama is to be believed, she'll be a terror in about a year so I'm enjoying this while I can." Looking down at Eden, her expression turned thoughtful. "Besides, you are such a mom with Yolanda, you know that, right? She totally idolizes you."

Surprisingly, Janet visibly brightened at Erin's response, tilting her head slightly as she gave the younger woman a reevaluating glance. "Good for you. Never let anyone tell you that you can't do a job you're qualified for just because someone else hasn't handed you a piece of paper saying so," she advised with a firm nod and a faint but encouraging smile. Trevor stood in nonplussed silence for a moment before blinking slowly. "Definitely qualified," he agreed as the elevator doors opened up again and let them out onto the ground floor. "Extensive extracurriculars at Claremont; reputation among the other students." His mother made a soft, musing sound as they began walking again. "I had my doubts about that school but it's clearly done a world of good."

Janet shrugged modestly as she walked down the hallway with a grace that suggested natural poise and gymnastic training wasn't exclusive to one side of Trevor's family. "Oh, this and that, dear. A sculpture exhibit here, a political campaign there. Helping a few crowd-funding projects off the ground, throwing some weight around to keep a clinic open. You know how it is, I'm sure." For all it could have been taken as sly bragging, the raven haired woman seemed to be describing what she considered to be a fairly uneventful week. "That brings you to Monaco?" Trevor attempted to probe a little further, shoulders relaxing slightly with Erin beside him. As they entered the elevator his stance subtly shifted to the one he adopted at high society events when he wanted to make sure he was noticed, back straight and posture just perceptibly aloof. It wasn't unlike the way he'd edged toward more taciturn and poker-faced when they'd met his father, an unconscious attempt to relate to a parent on their own terms. "That brings me to Nice," Janet corrected breezily, "but when the Grand Prix is right next door, well. You know I'll go on and I'm much more interested in you, Erin. You're in school, I'd imagine?" The glass doors of the elevator silently closed behind them as they started downward.

With a deep rumbling sound, Erik craned forward to press his nose against Min's neck and kiss her throat. "Rrr, spring is a good season," he agreed, hand sliding across her waist until he forced himself to take a steadying breath. "Heh. Probably shouldn't leave the girls to look after the kids on their own all night, though, you're right. Still have to finish dinner." Despite his words he made no immediate move to extricate himself from underneath the amorous dryad. "...they're probably fine for a little while."

Trevor shrugged in response, having no idea how his mother might have been keeping busy of late. Describing Janet Pryce-Hunter as a woman of varied interests and numerous skills was an exercise in the very definition of understatement. Tugging his cuffs into place, he took a brief moment to kiss Erin lightly on the cheek before opening the door to the hallway. Janet had wedged the door to her room with open with a pump that looked like it probably cost a small fortune and was sitting at a table in view of the hallway with her newspaper and a tall, untouched glass of something bright and fruity. Seeing the young couple emerge she neatly folded the paper and set it down then rose elegantly to he feet and walked forward to meet them. "Ah, there you are. Tsk, no need to ask who designed your outfits. He's a dear man, but Frank hasn't exactly evolved his style over the years." There was a visibly awkward moment as she reached them where neither she nor Trevor seemed entirely sure if they were supposed to hug or shake hands and ultimately decided on neither, nodding slightly instead. "Sorry to keep you waiting," the dark haired young man apologized. The older woman waved it away. "Don't be absurd. I was eighteen once, too, you know," she informed the pair, placing one hand on her hip in a way that made the flow of her dress even more dramatic but gave no hint of affectation. "You're young, you're on vacation, you're both in excellent shape. I'd be more concerned if you weren't--" "Twenty," Trevor interrupted hurriedly, gesturing down the hallway toward the elevator. His compact body language was tighter than usual but he offered his arm to Erin nonetheless. "It's twenty, now." "I was twenty once, too," Janet confirmed without missing a beat.

Trevor cracked the faintest suggestion of a smile as Erin's arms wrapped around him, placing one of his hands atop hers. "Not sure it works that way. Won't insult you anyway." The assertion came equally from knowing how his mother was likely to behave and from knowing his own reaction should she cross any lines. Closing his eyes briefly to center himself and focus on Erin's comforting presence against his back, he sighed almost imperceptibly. "Hrn. Shouldn't keep her waiting, anyway." Carefully untangling himself he selected a dress shirt from the clothes he'd packed and continued getting dressed. "Could try getting her to talk about herself."

Alright, I'm going to rope Glamazon, Errant and Temperance into this. TK, put a pin in that idea for having Solar Sentinel interact with Set and Sekhmet 'cause it sounds hilarious, just doesn't gel with this thread specifically. I'll post a link here when I have the IC and OOC threads up.

I'm looking to run a thread for lower PL characters, probably in the 7-8 range, facing off against the Fearsome Five, a villainous team who's shown up a few times. Set and Sekhmet will be a part of this, so it's also an opportunity to team-up with them. The Fearsome Five are all PL 10 and individually dangerous, with a broad range of abilities so a group of PL 7-8 heroes are going to be in significantly over their heads. That means figuring out a way to win other than a straight fight and knowing as a player that your character may well have their butt handed to them in the process of saving the day. Hey, the Fearsome Five may even get away with their plan! If you're interested in a challenging thread with some strong personalities, let me know. I'll be choosing less based on first-come and more on which characters would be most interesting to include so feel free to make your pitch along those lines! For reference:

"Yeah?" Returning the kiss through his smile, Erik shifted his kneeling stance to accommodate the embrace. "Awesome." Looking like he was on the verge of breaking out into laughter, the fencer slipped a hand around Min's waist to rest on the small of her back and brought the other up to twine into the white hair over her ear. Pulling her in for another kiss, he leaned backward until his back lay on the uneven forest floor. "So... Mrs. Minerva Espadas? Has a ring." Abruptly smacking himself on the forehead he groaned in realization. "A ring!"

"What?" Erik blinked once, distracted by the kiss as he processed through a haze of adrenaline and nerves. "Wait, no, see, there are these forms you fill out each year to figure out what you owe in taxes and married people can fill out just the one set instead of doing them separately so I was making a--- Okay, rewind." Raising his hands in front of him, the fencer's face scrunched up as he squeezed his eye shut and reordered his thoughts. "Let me try this again." Reaching out and taking one of her hands he did his best to explain himself, uncharacteristically careful with his words. "Min, I'm not a perfect guy. Like, at all, obviously. But you get me, you get how I can love and hate fighting at the same time and why there are things I feel responsible for, the things that are important to me. We've sorta got compatible baggage, right?" Grinning in spite of himself, he ran his free hand through his closely cropped, dusty brown hair. "I'm happier when you're around and less when you're not. Plus we're raising a beautiful, wonderful kid together and you mean a lot more to me that just being some woman I got pregnant. Y'know? I guess that's kind of old fashioned but I'm not that guy. I'm not like my old man and I'm not going anywhere." He squeezed her hand a little, his expression turning more serious once again. "I am stupid in love with you. So." Still holding her hand, Erik crouched down on one knee against the forest floor. "Minerva Salix, Guardian Willow, would you do me the honor of marrying me?"

Ellie shook her head with an amused sigh as Erik and Min left the campsite, picking up a gurgling Eden. "Your Auntie Ellie is pretty much the best sister ever, squirt, just so you know." The infant made a happy noise at the attention and with a grin Ellie carried her over toward Mara. "How are those roasting sticks coming?" Meanwhile, Erik was clearing his throat with a hint of chuckle, putting in own arm around Min's waist as she led the way into the woods. "I could definitely be persuaded to add that to the do-to list," he agreed in a low voice, tilting his chin to brush a kiss atop one delicately pointed ear. "Had an idea I wanted to run by you first, though." Once they were well out of view and earshot of the camp, he slipped from the dryad's one-armed embrace to turn about and face her, taking her hand in his own as he went. "We kinda did some things out of order when you showed up in the brownstone's backyard, huh?" he laughed, a lopsided smile turning up one corner of his mouth. "Covered most of the bases eventually, though. And I was thinking, now that the League set you up with a fancy new legal identity and everything and tax season is coming up and you know how much I hate filling out forms..." Forcing himself to stop rambling, he looked deeply into warm, golden eyes and took a deep breath. "Want to get married?"

"I warn thee, do not try anything clever," Sekhmet growled under her breath as she loomed over Set where he sat cross-legged on the museum floor. Cracking her neck irritably, her face resumed its human proportions so she could flick the longer side of her asymmetrical haircut. Switching back himself now that it was clear the ba weren't about to show him any deference regardless of his appearance, the godling favoured his watchful companion with a toothy smile. "I will endeavour, Lady of Slaughter, but in my defense I am by nature so very, very clever." Lacing his fingers together he stretched them for a moment, shook them loose, then formed each hand into an arcane gesture. Closing his piercing grey eyes, Set began to chant in the tongue of Heliopolis, focusing on the battered remains of the mummies. It took only a minute or two for him to bound back to his feet triumphantly, a faint nimbus of light surrounding his eyes when he opened them. "Success! As though there were any doubt, haha!" Pointing out beyond the museum walls he explained, "Our dark magister was ill prepared for a true master of the arcane! I can lead us right to his doorstep. Up for a field trip, oh pool of untold depths?" "There is no need to concern thyself with this matter further, Temperance," Sekhemt objected with an expression that was beginning to suggest that scowling was simply the default set of her features. "As the Ennead's representatives on the mortal plane this is our responsibility." "Phaw, we've been over this, Sekhmet," Set interjected with an airy wave of dismissal. "The team-up is a cornerstone of the modern heroic experience! I'm sure she's itching for battle and adventure and deeds of fantastical renown, yes?"
