Ellie let out a noise that was somewhere between a chuckle and a scoff. "When I was a student here I had a double secret identity. Like, I had my hero name, then a fake normal name on top of that so I could go to classes without people knowing my real normal name. Which is to say I'd bet more than half the kids here are convinced they're the weirdest one for one reason or another. Because they've got famous parents or dangerous powers they don't have a handle on or they don't think they look good in the gym uniform." She finished her own cocoa in solidarity and gave Danica a small shrug. "Setting your boundaries and making sure people respect them, especially when it comes to touching you is never being an inconvenience. Anybody who acts like it is is a dirtbag and not worth worrying about being nice to anyway, so it solves itself."

"In their defence, most of the other kids are probably a little too, y'know, intimidated to ask a lot of questions," Ryder reasoned, looking more amused than put off by Natalia's chiding. "Or just wrapped up in their own stuff! Like that thing with Cahill's daughter? All kinds of secret relatives!" He led the way back out the street while reassuring her, "Probably not a lot of Russian gravity glove making people though! I assume, anyway. That's be a wild coincidence, ha!" Bag slung over his shoulder and hands on his hips he considered the time of day. "I didn't really have anything else penciled in after 'fight monkey mobsters' but I'm sure we can think of something to do. If you're not sick of me for the day yet?"

"Thanks but gotta stay disciplined to rock the crop top," Jill told the production assistant, framing her abdominals between her hands for a moment. Her force field umbrella dissipated with a subtle ripple and soft crackle of energy as she stepped inside, eyes flicking about the room and taking stock of its occupants, layout and exits. Dwelling on the whole incident with the Curator had a way of ramping up her paranoia. She still managed a confident, lopsided smile as she accepted Paige's offered handshake. "Probably go with the out-of-costume name. Always sounds a little weird when people are calling me 'Jill' and then I'm like, 'Excellent point, Commodore Plutonium-Groin'."

Reasonable! Give me two skill checks, a Drive Check and then your choice of Bluff, Intimidate, whatever you like based on how you're going about it.

"Ooh, science!" Ryder exclaimed without irony as he caught the vial in both hands, cradling it against his chest. Rolling it around he held it up much the same way Natalia had to inspect it before gingerly placing it into his bag. "I've got a pretty good track record at reverse engineering, y'know, unusual tech. Plus, I'm motivated." It probably should have come across as overconfidence but landed more on self-assured optimism. "Am I allowed to research Graviton himself or are we doing like an unspoken agreement to preserve your carefully maintained mystique?"

"That's a pretty specific example," Ellie noted dryly, shifting to rest her chin in one hand, her elbow propped up on the table. "You get the idea though, yeah. Obviously I'm not condoning acting like that normally, it's super crappy. But I also wouldn't suggest punching people in the face in your usual day-to-day but sometimes an eldritch horror tyrant crawls out of the deepest depths and forces your hand. Somebody starts threatening people's safety, they're forfeiting their right to polite debate." She gave a laissez faire shrug then frowned and met Danica's eyes carefully. "If kids aren't respecting your personal space, that's a different thing. Are they still doing it after you told them you didn't like it?"

It alway felt strange to enter a building through its front door while in costume rather than slipping in through a second story window or crashing through a skylight. Jill O'Cure contented herself with approaching studio by swinging from rooftop to rooftop then dropping down to street level on her line. A transparent blue dome shimmered above her head, following along with her acrobatics and keeping the rain off. It's colour contrasted with the deep crimson of her outfit and the black dyed hair she'd let get long enough again to put into a loose braid that swung about behind her as she touched down. Letting out a huff, she second-guessed herself for the umpteenth time. She'd had a long discussion with Mara about whether or not to agree to the interview, then with her brother and even talked it over with Erin and Steve to make sure everyone was on the same page. It had been a traumatic time for everyone but if it was going to get dredged up it felt like someone needed to set the record straight and she was better equipped to do so than some of the others. In theory at least. Checking her bandana mask in her reflection in one of the studio's window and straightening her jacket, she knocked on the door and waited, one hand on her hip while the other maintained her force field umbrella.

While the translucent beast gave a cry of pained surprise that was also a minor third chord progression the insect helmed Chitin dashed from the alleyway onto the scene in his silver-on-black base armour. Sliding like a baseball player aiming for home plate he crouched next to the unconscious business man behind the cracked and dented vehicle. Shaking the man's shoulder with one hand to try to rouse him, he used the middle and index fingers of the other to probe for a pulse. After a few tense beats he realized aloud, "I can't actually feel anything through these gloves." Louder he called to Kensei, "He's not waking up!" The blade wielding youth had his own more pressing concerns as the giraffe rhino hybrid lurched toward him, its movements choppy and difficult to predict without any actual skeleton or musculature to confine it. It's head shot forward and snapped its teeth menacingly at Kensei - a feint the stoic martial artist recognized and ignored. A follow up swipe of one of its unnervingly long, human-like arms was therefore easily dodged, the huge claws instead tearing long gouges in the street's concrete and spraying rubble into the air.

There was a short pause while Ellie recalibrated her next words. "Mary Shelley... no, sweetie. I mean that you want them to think that you pity them. Like this." She adopted a cloyingly sweet expression of condescending encouragement, placing the fingertips of one hand lightly on her chest. "Oh, buddy! Is this your first big boy death ray? You must have worked so hard on this! Don't you worry, I'll ask the warden especially to make sure you get some nice arts and crafts supplies to keep you busy on the inside, okay? Does that sound good?" The young doctor gestured with the same hand to check for understanding from her mentee.

"You ever see somebody empty a gun into a bulletproof meta then throw the gun at them? It's harder than you'd think to mentally switch gears from 'I'm in control' to 'I should rethink my life choices'," Ellie explained, spreading her hands wide. "The madder they are the harder it is to reevaluate the situation like that. So that's where you want to play to your strengths." She paused to consider Danica, looking her up and down. "At the risk of cliché, you're slow and steady, plus cheerful and honestly kind of a sweetheart. So you're on the right track about showing you're not afraid but you have to push it a little further. Me, I go for bone dry sarcasm, roll the eyes, real dismissive, remind them of the girl who never knew they existed in high school. But I think you play the pity card."

It was a herculean task on Ellie's part to neither laugh nor coo over Danica's little foray into profanity. "Swearing can be useful to throw a little gas on the fire but it shouldn't be your whole plan. If you don't think you can do it confidently, without hesitating, it'll work against you. You want to play to your strengths when you're needling someone else's weak spots, yeah?" Settling back down in her seat she interlaced her fingers around her cup and grew serious. "People will give you a lot of reasons for why they hurt other people but the ones you end up having to fight, the ones you can't talk down? Bottom line? It makes them feel good. They like feeling powerful and they'll take fear as a substitute for respect. That's weakness. You give someone expecting fear mockery instead? Nine times out of ten that'll knock 'em right on their ass. Or butt, if you like." She allowed herself a lopsided smirk at that and it wasn't hard to imagine how some might find that self-assurance infuriating.

Ryder cocked his head slightly to the left and responded with a warm but uncharacteristically understated smile in deference to Natalia's quieter moment. "I'm glad! It's a good pun." Magenta pressed her forelimbs to either side of her head like a human placing their palms on their cheeks at the sight of something cute and had to be herded out of Natalia's bag and over to Ryder's with the rest of the Robugs. "I wouldn't really trust that jerk in charge with a disposable lighter. Hopefully the penguin guy who got away doesn't cause too much trouble but I think we made the best of a really dumb set up."

"Hey, hey! Mary Shelley, look at me." Ellie uncrossed her legs and rose to her feet so that she could try to find an angle where she could meet Danica's eyes. "First of all, some of the most powerful people I know are cute when they fight. You know Fleur de Joie, on the Freedom League? Sweet enough to give you a toothache and she's in charge of a whole planet. But if you really want the bad guys to focus on you, that's easy. Practically the first thing you learn as an Interceptor." She folded her arms and took advantage of the elevated position to look down her nose slightly in her very best cool, collected and untouchable bad %!$@# pose. "Danica Holmes, we need to teach you to be an asshole."

Ellie blinked a few times, head slowly tilting to one side. "That definitely isn't what I was picturing from the write-up. I kinda thought it was going be more of a..." She stuck her arms out in front of herself to mime jaws, her fingers interlacing as the 'teeth' as she opened and closed them. "Big spirit tortoise jaws in front of you, not little separate guy walking around on his own. That was unbelievably cute. Less so if you're a chair, probably." She looked around the snack bar area to see if anyone was going to raise a fuss over destruction of school property before turning her attention back to Danica. "You don't sound super psyched about it, though."

The bizarre demonic centaur didn't crane its neck to look down at Kensei so much as the portion of its form above its pectorals rippled, abruptly refocusing in downward leaning position like frames of animation played out of order. Even standing at the ready atop the car it loomed over the young swordsman. Where he should have been able to feel its hot breath snorting from the nostrils at the end of its snout and around huge, curving teeth he instead felt an electric tingle blow across the front of his spectral armour. It seemed to consider him briefly with the gouts of yellow flame that served as its eyes then roared a power chord with a diminished fifth that cracked the windshield of the car beneath his feet.

"'If I'm going to follow the rules', serious-- oh you're gone. That was pretty cool." Abruptly left talking to himself Ryder turned and gave the cashier a winning grin. "Could you set those bowls aside for minute? I need to find where my friend ran off to." Half crouched behind the counter she gave an uncertain nod. The strawberry blond teenager dashed down the 'employees only' hallway to the left and out the side door to the narrow alleyway between buildings. When a cursory look back and forth seemed to confirm he was alone he reached down to the printer ink cartridge styled buckle on his belt. "CYMK! Dream in colour!"

"Don't look at me, I don't know what they see in him," Ellie quipped breezily, giving Danica a sly wink. "But that sounds like a pretty good start. It won't help to pull somebody to safety if they just bleed out inside your shell." She stopped for a moment to consider that sentence and grimaced. "That came out a little grosser than it sounded in my head. Sorry." Leaning back in her chair she crossed one leg over the other and swung her foot back and forth idly. "So learning some more first aid skill would be a pretty good idea. I can help with that. Seems like you've got pretty steady hands, which doesn't hurt. I want to hear more about the giant spirit tortoise attack thing."

I’d say the outward curving teeth are enough to remind Utsuwa of popular depictions of oni. The electric guitar/sound wave aesthetic isn’t ringing any bells.

Inside her bag Nocturne found not only her expected belongings but also Magenta triumphantly holding the 'force multiplier' gauntlet the faux 'Gravi-ton' had been displaying at his booth. She managed to convey an attitude of impish satisfaction with the tilt of her triangular head as she presented it. "You knew that guy was fake right away and y'know, that's a gravity thing, you've got a gravity thing," Ryder explained his reasoning as his base armour disappeared in a burst of wind and flash of light. His own bag descended the wall of the building to which they had their backs, Cyan and Black each holding up one side as they crawled down the bricks, Yellow hovering nearby to supervise. "I won't bug you with questions but I figured you might like a souvenir! Good work, Mag."
