His clean-shaven head is contrasted by a a beard of dense, curly hair on his square jaw, marked by two streaks of grey. He tends to favour darker, utilitarian clothing, typically with a slightly dated cut. As Wail, his outfit reflects a respect for tradition far more than any attempt to conceal his identity. Dark jeans are fasted with a broad, metal belt over a black sleeveless top adorned with a long, yellow ‘W’. Each wrist is covered by a matching black and yellow bracer, while round sunglasses add to an already impassive visage. History: Born in Freedom City’s Lincoln neighbourhood in the mid-1950’s, Keith LaMarr was not afforded many advantages in life. The son of a factory worker, LaMarr was taught from an early age that anything in life worth having was worth working and fighting for. Run-ins with local gangs as a youth sharpened his wits and fighting skills, but he refused to join up, convinced that the promise of easy money and power was a sucker’s bet. That sense of integrity would cost him dearly when, in 1972, a jilted gang carried out a drive-by shooting of LaMarr’s home. His mother was killed immediately, while his father survived long enough to be rushed to hospital where, thanks to a shoddy investigation, LaMarr was arrested at his bedside on suspicion of belonging to a rival gang. Vincent LaMarr succumbed to his injuries while his son was sentenced to prison time on fabricated drug charges. LaMarr was involved in an increasing number of altercations with other inmates and guards during his imprisonment at South River State Penitentiary, developing a reputation for a short temper and willingness to attack opponents more than twice the stringy young man’s size. Several months into his sentence, he joined an experiment conducted by Dr. Burton Noah, an AEGIS scientist, in exchange for early parole. An attempt to induce muscle growth through a combination of chemical treatments and precise sonic frequencies, sabotage by a vengeful guard resulted in LaMarr’s skeletal and muscle structure becoming super-dense. Besides increased strength, durability and endurance, the most notable effect was phenomenally enhanced lung muscles enabling a devastating sonic wail! Escaping from South River, LaMarr almost immediately ran into an altercation between the villain Bronze and the police. The convict’s timely intervention not only subdued the superpowered criminal but also save a school bus full of elementary school students. Combined with his willing surrender to the authorities, this was enough to have LaMarr’s case reopened, revealing a number of irregularities which were enough to have him permanently released. [floatl][/floatl]Taking the moniker Wail based on a comment made by a grateful grade schooler, LaMarr initially set up shop as a metahuman bodyguard after encountering difficulty finding work despite his cleared record. It was through this that he met Yelena Vostok, a Ukrainian mercenary who had received a cybernetic arm after an early mishap with her teleportation powers, and Javed Randeep, a Indian-American polyglot who’s amazing skills extended to translating human body language, making him a formidable martial artist. The trio eventually joined together to form an agency that solved unusual problems while serving any worthy cause as 1-800-JUSTICE. Upon hearing Yelena refer to her teleporting ability as ‘jumping’, Javed, in a fit of the playful wit that would make him the team’s heart, adopted the code name Jive. The hired heroes handled everything from gang violence to mystic robots to international incidents throughout the 1970s and into the 1980s, skirting the anti-cape laws introduced by Mayor Franklin Moore. Over the years, LaMarr developed romantic feelings for Javed, though he was reluctant to admit to them. By the 1990s, 1-800-JUSTICE had all but faded into obscurity, but were among the heroes who reappeared to combat the Terminus Invasion. In the heat of battle, Yelena managed to teleport her friends out of harm’s way a split second before being vaporised by a massive laser weapon. Devastated, LaMarr and Javed officially retired their heroic identities and settled down to start a new life together. Javed’s talents allowed him to support the couple as a high profile translator while LaMarr earned his degree and a position teaching civics at Joseph Clark High School. They lived happily for several years, with infrequent bouts of excitement as Javed foiled an assassination attempt or one of LaMarr’s rouges gallery reappeared for a final confrontation. Unfortunately, exposure to Terminus radiation had riddled Javed’s body with cancer, and after a long battle he passed away at the age of 55 in 2009. Having buried the love of his life, LaMarr grappled with what to do next. Ultimately the decision was made for him when the Grue invaded Freedom City en masse. Defending his students from a massive creature released by the aliens, he found that his powers had only grown stronger over time. Freedom City still called out for justice, and weary though he was, Keith LaMarr was still the man on the other end of the line. With a new costume and a renewed commitment, Wail is back in action! Personality & Motivation: LaMarr has suffered a great many hardships in his life. These trials have forged an ironclad will stronger even then his superhuman skin, and while a lesser man may have become embittered, he has developed a keen empathy. His sense of integrity demands that he use his experience and abilities to defend those who cannot defend themselves. That isn’t to say he is without his rough edges; Javed once commented that there was very little of Keith that was not rough edge. His age and profession have given him a didactic tone and his expectations for both his students and the latest generation of heroes are high indeed. The years have helped to mollify his temper but have not removed it. Dramatically aware of his own mortality, he is determined to continue to make a difference for as long as he is able. Powers & Tactics: With superhuman strength and durability, LaMarr is a powerhouse to be reckoned with, standing shoulder to shoulder with many of the modern day bruisers. His true might, however, comes from his namesake sonic wail, an extraordinary torrent of concussive force that can deafen foes as easily as it sends them flying. This is thanks to the tremendous lung strength and capacity which resulted from his enhanced physiology. Against mundane foes, Wail typically restrains himself to hand to hand combat, but is not afraid to let loose with his full fury should the situation call for it. His super-dense biology also prevents him from floating in water, and gives him a mass several times that of an average person of his already impressive stature.

Complications: Age: LaMarr is well into his fifties, although he’s aged remarkably well. Destructive: LaMarr’s sonic wail has the potential for massive collateral damage. Enemies: Over the decades LaMarr built up a substantial rogues gallery, some of whom now have younger successors. Lost Love: Javed’s death remains a fresh wound for LaMarr. Prejudice: A gay black man born to a low income family, LaMarr is no stranger to unfair treatment. Public Identity: Although he goes by Wail in the field, LaMarr has never maintained a true secret identity. Responsibility: Joseph Clark High School. Temper: The wisdom of age aside, LaMarr does not react well when backed into a corner. 3. "She'll be around soon," Trevor assured Mark. "Finishing something while we eat." Redbird had been enthusiastic about the celebration on the whole, appreciating the sentiment of independence from tyranny even if she wasn't familiar with the historical context. The explanation of what was involved in a barbeque had received the sort of reaction one might have reserved for a proffered cup of jaguar blood, however; he wasn't sure of what the typical Furion diet consisted, but apparently it wasn't slabs of animal flesh seared on an outdoor gridiron. The autonomic intelligence had been carefully polite about it but it hadn't taken much convincing to get her to handle another portion of the preparations while he saw to the grills.
4. Wail wasn't overly bothered by the creepy little bird-thing's stilted telepathy or eating habits but when it started to describe the blood of fresh and vital prey, his expression twisted into a snarl. "You sick little--" Only the ice cage containing the spirit prevented him from grabbing the carrion eater by the neck. Instead, the experienced hero bit down on a growl and turned to Temperance. "Sullivan and Sons is a junkyard nearby. We need to be there yesterday." Suiting action to words, he started off with thunderous footfalls.
5. Indira felt the telekinetic equivalent to an elbow nudging her in the side as her floating floating roommate let out an appreciative whistle and grin. The melodic sound came out as a pitch perfect harmony as the translucent blue individual across from the Earth-Prime group followed suit. With faded jeans framed by a flannel shirt tied around his waist and hiking boots, the male poltergeist was a little more obviously outdoorsy than his counterpart but wavy, shoulder length hair nearly as long as Kimber's made it clear he was just as much rooted in the past. "Hey, not bad!" both phantoms decided appraisingly, bursting into laughter as they heard their own unison. "Ha ha! Jinx! You owe me a Coke!" Broad, matching smiles turned pensive simultaneously. "Not that I can drink, obviously... Still!" Their strange exercise in spontaneous choral reading was interrupted as the small, canine nose poked out nervously from behind one of the labs installations. Cautiously padding forward, the nose turned out to be attached to the head of of a black and brown furred puppy, which wouldn't have been too strange if she hadn't been sharing a body with two more heads, all sniffing and looking about at the new people independently. In the crook of Kimber's arm, Avro turned perfectly still, locking eyes with the middle head. Immediately she began barking, short but repeated burst of sound. The right read, the one which had lead the way, pressed herself to the floor, covering her eyes with a paw while the left head continued panting happily and watching the newcomers closely. The manticore kitten responded by puffing out his quills and hissing menacingly. "Argus, we talked about this!" the local ghost chided the puppy, swooping down to pick her up and receiving a triple combination of wet noses and rough tongues across his cheek for his efforts. "Ha, alright, alright, good girl! Sorry about that," he apologized to his double. "I'm Roy!" "Kimber!" the visiting apparition replied as the beast she was carrying settled down put continued to watch the three-headed puppy warily. "And this is Avro. Thanks for having us!"

8. If Argo had possessed the disgusting flesh faculties to produce saliva, then Citizen's haymaker would have surely sent a spray of spittle flying from the shocked android's mouth as his head spun, his neck stretching a full meter from the momentum. Nearby, the lightning bolt emblazoned Grab flew back from the center of the fight, well aware of the reach afforded by her usual powers. "Who the @#$% are these guys?!" she demanded in Get-Away's direction, eyes wide as they darted between Sage, Citizen and her fallen teammates. "Would somebody @#$%!^& tell me what the @#$% is going on?!" Creative conjugation of expletives aside, the thief maintained enough of her composure to launch a storm of electricity from her finger tips, blanketing the dazed Argo and his latest attacker with deadly volts!

10. KImber turned to Indira and silently mouthed 'and such?' with a raised eyebrow, the subtlety of the exchange some what marred by the finger quotes she made with her free hand as Avro made himself comfortable in the crook of her opposite arm. Aloud, the phantom balked, "Oh, there is no way she's named 'Sharla'. That'd be like if boy-me was 'Kimbro'. I mean, 'Sharlene' maybe, sure." Bag still floating behind her, she flew over to sizable device Ms. Harcourt had indicated. "You're not going to get too literal about the 'life' part of the paper, right?" she questioned the teacher.
11. Should I know who 'Sullivan' is? I feel like I should but it's not ringing any bells.
12. Avro perked up immediately as the paper bat flew into view, shifting in Kimbers arms and watching the origami creature's path with wide, unblinking eyes. Tracking the winding trail for a moment, the cub abruptly leaned forward, the spiny mane about his neck standing on end as a trio of quills shot out and skewered the bat neatly. "Avro!" Kimber cried out in admonishment, the tumbling mass of rice paper and manticore spires freezing in the air just before it collided with some delicate look equipment. The kitten looked up at the poltergeist innocently. "Mrowr?" "We've talked about this!" she sighed, guiding the wounded paper over to a waste bin and shooting an apologetic look in Koshiro's direction. Avro simply yawned and settled back down. Defeated, Kimber turned her attention back to Ms. Harcourt. "Um, does 'biological gender inversion' mean what it sounds like?" she inquired. "'Cause boy Mali would have to be crazy buff."
13. Trevor blinked in surprise and pointed a finger at his face when Mark suggested that he and Erin had been the most successful of their peer group in that particular arena. After a moment of consideration, he wasn't sure he could actually disagree. "Huh." The dark haired young man suspected a congratulatory high five would be in poor taste. The mention of the wrecked motorcycle soured his expression anyway. "Vincent Black Shadow frame was ruined," he sighed, shoulders slumping a bit with the posture of a connoisseur relating the loss of a masterpiece. "Been rebuilding from scratch, though. My own specs, input from Redbird." That at least seemed to buoy his spirits. "She made an analogy to letting in tailored pants but... don't think she really understands how clothes work."
14. Trevor found the strategy involved in the game interesting enough to follow but the constant stopping of play seemed limiting. Anyone could come up with a plan that only had to last a few minutes at most after contact with the opposing forces. Presumably that was to keep the focus on the physical athletics on the players but it seemed like such a waste. About the halftime show he honestly didn't know what to think. Quo-Dis' enthusiasm was a little disconcerting given her parentage but he knew better than to judge someone based on that alone. Trevor could at least empathize with the inclination to take any challenge or competition seriously. "Jets' defense is embarrassing," he agreed, doing his best to mix frank observation with jocular overstatement. "Can't maintain pressure."
15. 'Oh mistress'? Maaan, they're making this all weird and stuff, Kimber groaned inwardly, relived though she was to have avoided a fight with all of the various beasts unable to find cover. "Well done, my new friends," she said aloud, still shining like a cold beacon of otherworldly might and beauty. "Redemption is at hand! Won't you tell me how best to return these noble creatures to their homes and stop Milliner's terrible misdeeds?" Accessing the charm Nick had crafted to aid their communication, she thought quickly, --The good news is the guards are taken care of! The bad news is I think I maybe started a cult by accident? You'd think it would be harder!--

18. "Oh, good! Indira and I are getting super good at sleepovers!" Kimber noted as she floated into the lab alongside her roommate, swimming easily though the air with her long hair waving behind her in a breeze that didn't seem to be there for anyone else. "It helps when you don't actually have to sleep," the phantom confided to Sharl, swooping smoothly down so that she was at eye level with the holographic teen. A small shoulder bag floated a meter or so behind her, held aloft by her poltergeist powers while a small mass of russet and burnt sienna fun scampered along the floor staring upward as if he knew it was stocked with food for him, his chitinous tail waving excitably back and forth. Reaching down, Kimber scooped the manticore kitten up, his supernatural nature making him unusually solid to her own immaterial being. "It's okay if I bring Avro along, right?" she asked Ms. Harcourt belatedly. "I can't really leave him on his own for two days."
19. Erik cleared his throat pointedly at the extended exchange between Tona and Jasmine. "Unless you ladies brought enough croissants for the whole class..." While it might have been illuminating to know specifically what they'd been discussing, after the events surrounding his daughter's birth he wasn't regretting his decision to have as little to do with his father's side of the family as possible. "If this doesn't end up being what you were hoping for, you're not going to hurt my feelings," he assured the surly teenager. "At least let me get started before deciding if I'm wasting your valuable time, though, alright?" He'd never met a high school student so offended by the idea of not being lectured. Then again, the last time he'd reamed out a teen for an attitude problem she'd turned out to be suffering from serious post-traumatic stress. Live and learn. Doing a few quick stretches as he spoke, the instructor explained, "We won't worry about pads today, since we shouldn't be getting into any throws. Kristin's right again; you'll be using some muscles that don't see much day-to-day use. If you've ever been skiing before, think about how you felt the day after you first tried that. And don't worry Bax, I'm sure the womenfolk will go easy on you."
20. "Ah," the Dakanan murmured as the spell collapsed upon itself and Dragonfly summoned her armor. "That does not bode particularly well." The mountain of a man with the exotic facial hair answered with a booming laugh. "Ha! No, is perfect! Now we fight for real!" Whirling his massive blade in a broad arc that only narrowly missed interfering with the duel between Geckoman and the white jacketed woman, he pressed his assault against Erik, filling the space where the fencer had just been with a curtain of steel. Still, the nimble hero was able to keep a step ahead of the attacks as the synesthesia of his metamagi senses surged back into his awareness.

22. The magic user hastily turned her attention to the charging inventor and indeed Mara's appropriated weapon was momentarily slowed by invisible shields of mystical force. The sharpened daka crustal shredded through those defenses as it had through everything else, however, before connecting solidly with the practitioner herself, ripping apart one of the folds of her robe. She stumbled back with a shout of pain, not out of the fight but too distracted to maintain the spell occupying one of her hands. Mara was the first to feel the effects of her attack as the ominous crimson glow winked out. In a palpable wave that rippled out from the House of Staves mage power returned to the West End, street lamps flickering to life and the technopath's mind filling again with the background noise of the technology around them. Inside the house, the lights came back on and a voice called from the laptop in the kitchen, "--build up in the yow my achin' simulated head!"
