  1. Face still distorted horribly, Ghost Girl surged into the air over Moon, cloak flapping violently in a non-existent gale as she loomed over the distressed and possessed thug. The poltergeist's chin stretched even further in an inhuman expression as she took a deep breath and exhaled a wintery blast of frigid air straight down. The blizzard's fury rolled across the the floor of the room but the brunt of it washed over Moon specifically, entrapping ice pinning feet to floorboard and arms to sides. Finally she closed her eyes for a moment as she resumed her youthful, less terrifying appearance, using both hands to work her jaw back into it's proper place. "I told you to stay still," she noted huffily.

  3. The school year might have been finished for the year, but Keith LaMarr wasn't exactly on vacation. Between writing up lesson plans for the remedial summer school classes that would soon be under way and grading a handful of late assignments and make-up exams, he still had his sizable hands full. Getting a start on all of that work would have been easier if the window of his first floor apartment hadn't been rattling noisily with the vibrations of the nearby block party's music. Despite the continued assumptions of many, the earsplitting educator better known in some circles as Wail didn't have any enhanced hearing to go along with his super-powered shout, but it didn't take metahuman abilities to pick up on the powerful bass. Or to notice the sudden screams of fear that started and stopped abruptly over the music. Setting aside his red pen, the broadshouldered hero has out the door and rattling the pavement with his own heavy footsteps in a flash.
  4. Ghost Girl Move Action: Fly over Moon's head. Hero Point; Surge Full Action: Ice Breath straight down to avoid hitting anyone else. That's a DC 22 Snare.
  5. It might have been Madrigal's words that caused Midnight to clench his teeth tightly and narrow his discoloured eyes. As a legacy hero, he was used to thinking of himself as a part of something larger, a tradition of service to a higher ideal. The Madrigal was going to pay for every member of that fraternity who had met their end living up to those tenets. Then again, it might have been the electrical shock his morphic armor was delivering across his body, ionizing the midnight mist coursing through his veins and supersaturating his muscle tissue. Beneath the costume his flesh took on a dull onyx tone as the gas catalyzed within him. "Slow learner," he observed flatly as he burst suddenly into motion, spurred on by the surge of strength, shattering the calm before the storm. He moved faster than the startled Martinet's eyes could follow, ducking out of her field of vision before abruptly reappearing with a brutal two-handed haymaker that caught the Annihilist under her chin and lifted her off the ground as the force of the block crashed into her. "Another Midnight is never more than a day away."
  6. Midnight II Hero Point: Power Stunt off of midnight mist Obscure: Enhanced Strength 10 (30 [+10] Total) [10PP] + Enhanced Feats 2 (Improved Critical [unarmed] 2) [2PP] (muscles supersaturated with ionized midnight mist) Move Action: Stealth 30 with Hide in Plain Sight and Skill Mastery. Standard Action: Unarmed Attack; Power Attack 5, Inspire 5. (1d20+14=25) That should hit her either way and be DC 30 or 32 with Sneak Attack. (The bonus from Sneak Attack would bring his offensive caps up to the equivalent of PL13 in this case, which he is technically allowed to do as an under-capped PL15 character. Not something I do often, but the situation is dire!)
  7. Search Check. (1d20=9) Doop.
  8. Outside, Geckoman and Fulcrum could see that it wasn't only the Espadas' house affected; several blocks in all directions were similarly dark, with no sign of electrical lights. Further into the city, however, the skyscrapers of the downtown were lit and easily visible. In front of the house, Chris found a number of figures walking toward him from either end of the road. Easily visible in the unusually dark evening twilight was a crackling red glow atop the roof of a business at the closest intersection, a few hundred meters to his left. The features of the people of the ground were harder to pick out, further concealed from his superior night vision by hoods. Most of them wore long coats or leather jackets, but each carried a drawn sword in hand, the metal glinting in what little light there was. There were at least a dozen or more of them, spaced out along the street but all drawing nearer. "Ah, the Geckoman," the closest of the figures remarked in a masculine voice creased by wear and sporting a light but noticeable French accent. This one carried a thin longsword casually in one hand and strode with the confidence of one used to others getting out of the way. Chris could make out a greying goatee beneath his hood, framing a faint smirk. "Enhanced agility, regenerative capabilities." "Promising..." another voice noted nearby, this one coyly feminine with a undercurrent of amusement and a heavier English accent. She carried a wicked looking scimitar balanced against one shoulder, sauntering forward with a predatory grace. Her outfit was ostentatious in its matching white leather, from the flared pants to the fringed jacket. "Hmm. We'll be in touch," the first swordsman agreed thoughtfully, "but our business is not with you tonight. Where is the Jack?"
  9. "Guh, like my head is wrapped in gauze... Hey! Mo', you know--" Erik began but the imposing paragon was already out the backdoor. "She knows she's not in charge, right?" the fencer finished the thought to the rest of the room, still clutching the side of his head and squinting though one eye as he acclimated to the unpleasant sensation of the electrical dead zone surrounding them. "Someone leaping into action rather than waiting for your orders, dear?" Gina observed, calmly wheeling herself over the a cabinet along the wall and unlocking a drawer. "I believe that's called 'karma'." From within she drew a well-maintained service handgun, taking a moment to check it over before setting it in her lap. "How're your magic fairy swords?" Straightening fully, Erik snapped the fingers of one hand a few times, with no result. "Nada." In response, his mother retrieved a sharpened fencing foil from the cabinet and tossed it to him. Catching it easily in one hand, he jogged past Mara and into the bedroom, finding Ellie supporting Willow as they made their way over to the bed, the younger Espadas still muttering assorted obscenities under her breath. "It's time!" she hissed to her brother as she helped Willow lie down. Erik stood silent for a split second, looking between the two women before blurting, "Now?!" In the corner of the bedroom, Yolanda had drawn her knees up to her chin, arms wrapped around them and eyes wide but keeping very, very quiet, obviously reliving the horrors of the end of the world she'd escaped in reaction to the sudden air of confusion and panic in the house.
  10. Sage's devastating punch caught Sylph right under her rocky jaw, tiny bits of orange-brown stone crumbling and flaking off at the force of the blow. Her heat vision cut into Granite's frozen form before the villainess' bulky body had even collapsed to the museum floor. Two wisps of water vapour rose from the points where the beams bit, sublimating the ice while beginning to thaw some of the surrounding frozen water. It was difficult to tell if Cobalt Templar's ghostly intrusion was having much affect on the water elemental one way or the other, given his lack of response.

  12. "She gets kinda bored with animals that aren't like van-sized jaguar slash stag beetle monsters with a bazillion acid dripping pincer arms and all," Ghost Girl supplied for Nick in a lowered, confidential tone, nodding along as though to indicate that it seemed to her to be a very endearing quirk. Flying back around, she stuck her arm right through the basilisk's face up to her elbow, giving the creature a disapproving look as she rooted about. "Well we're not gonna kill it! It's not a bad basilisk, it just made some bad choices! But we should probably knock it out a bit, right?"
  13. Ghost Girl Full Round Action: Coup de Grace Drain Strength. That's a DC 27 Fortitude Save.
  14. A small, grim smile formed behind Midnight's mask. --This is good. Changing rules because they're on the run,-- he observed, confirming the conclusions some of the others had already drawn. --Leash a couple Hounds for me, ladies. I'll try to make this quick.-- The black clad hero took a moment to apprize Martinet's reaction to everything before a low echoing sound came through the filter in his mask. It took a few beats for the guttural noise to become recognizable as a dark, humourless laugh. "So much research. So little idea who, what you're fighting." The cloud of midnight mist behind him had begun to dissipate on its own as he circled the Madrigal. "Threaten my people? Just showed them five new targets. Furions were right." He raised an inviting hand toward his opponent, beckoning her to come try her luck. "You are 'the stupid general'."
  15. Rock!Sylph Toughness Save vs. DC 36. (1d20+10=26) Since she was already staggered, that's unconscious! Water!Granite Toughness Save vs. DC 28. 16. "Well hey, not that we don't appreciate the offer there, big guy, but I'm getting the sense you're a busy demon, amirite?" Jack chimed in, raising his voice and taking a couple of steps closer the insect covered pile of wrongness. "Time is money, I hear ya, we are on the same page there. This is actually pretty embarrassing, but it looks like this whole summoning sis-boom-bah was a bit of a wrong number. Like on a phone? You guys got phones down there? Landlines, I'll bet; cell reception's gotta be a bear. This guy knows what I'm talking about, haha..." The swashbuckler kept his tone light and conversational, without any threats or posturing. If it came down to a fight, well, they'd do what needed doing, but if there was a chance they could avoid fighting an abomination against all that was good in creation, well that would probably be okay too. "We will be having a stern word with the fella who dialed that in, too, believe you me. So I tell you what, we're not going to waste any more of your time, we'll just send you right back so you can... get on with the devouring and all that. Cool? Cool."
  17. "Probably!" Ghost Girl chirped cheerfully in response to Wraith's question, circling around the pinned beast in a wide arc. "Sounds like magic, don't you think? I guess it could be like a mutant-- ooh, or an alien! But Nick mostly fixes magic stuff, so there you go, eh?" Coming around the basilisk's head, the phantom placed both fists on her hips and leaned forward to glare directly into the creature's deadly eyes. "Either way, you should be ashamed of yourself, mister! Going around scaring people, turning them into statues and everything! I know you're probably scared of the big crowd but that's just no excuse!"
  18. Initiative. (1d20+5=16)
  19. I know he just got a 'we got a badass over here' HP, but given his development, any chance of Midnight reaping the benefits of his Loyalty complication?
  20. For the time being, it didn't look like the frozen Granite was going anywhere. Turning her attention to Sylph, Ghost Girl gathered up a second handful of paper cranes and lifted them up. "Give them life, right! Haha, that's actually kind of ironic, eh? Hoo boy..." she laughed nervously before rolling her shoulders and suppressing a startled jump when she actually felt the physical muscles these loosen at the gesture. Taking a deep breath, she blew on the origami sculptures, sending them streaming toward the rocky villainess. The attack looked very much like Papercut's usual trick but everywhere Kimber's breath touched the birds their paper blackened until it was a flock of crows that pecked away at the gaps between Sylph's stoney surface.
  21. I'm going to say at this point Air!Pyre is gone with the proverbial wind and move onto Ghost Girl. Ghost Girl Standard Action: Blast Rock!Sylph. (1d20+16=28) That's DC 23 + Autofire 5 = 28. Rock!Sylph Toughness Save vs. DC 28. 22. Water!Granite Toughness Save vs. DC 28. (1d20+12=23) Alright, he's Dazed, so he skips his turn and can't break out from the Snare. 34 - Sage - Brusied x1, 6HP 24 - Cobalt Templar - Uninjured, 3HP 22 - Sylph - Bruised x1, Staggered, Dazed, -3 Strength 20 - Citizen - Bruised x1, 3HP 13 - Wraith - Uninjured, 2HP 11 - Papercut - Uninjured, 5HP 11 - Granite - Bruised x1, Bound/Helpless 10 - Pyre - Staggered 7 - Ghost Girl - Uninjured, 4HP 4 - Professor Fathom - Unconscious
  23. "Criminal doesn't mean stupid, just means fool," Wail rumbled, brow furrowed in consideration. "Coulda been a doctor, security guard, anybody working here. Can't even get a cellphone without a camera these days; grab a few shots when your back's turned, hand 'em off to some mad science type, they're in business." In the modern day, people were used to thinking of information as something that could be hunted down online or protected on a harddrive. In the veteran hero's experience, however, it always had and always would come down to the human element. The right bribe or threat and there was no such thing as 'secure information'.
  24. Sylph Will Save vs. DC 23. (1d20+4=20) 34 - Sage - Brusied x1, 6HP 24 - Cobalt Templar - Uninjured, 3HP 22 - Sylph - Bruised x1, Staggered, Dazed, -3 Strength 20 - Citizen - Bruised x1, 3HP 13 - Wraith - Uninjured, 2HP 11 - Papercut - Uninjured, 6HP 11 - Granite - Uninjured, Bound/Helpless 10 - Pyre - Staggered 7 - Ghost Girl - Uninjured, 4HP 4 - Professor Fathom - Unconscious
  25. Surprisingly enough, it seemed that with Pyre's borrowed form, Fathom was actually one of the more solid members of the Factor Four. There was a crunching sound as Citizen's giant blue fist of fire crashed into the villain like a briquette being crushed underfoot. Fathom went limp as the force of the blow sent his unconscious form sailing though the air in a downward arc that ended with a splash and sizzle in the south river surrounding the city. A sizable column of steam marked the spot where he'd sunk beneath the surface of the water, the Quantum Bauble still in hand.
