Before he could make his indignation at being immediately set upon by teenage superheroes for the umpteenth time in his long, villainous career, Pyre shouted in pain, the scarlet spike of psychic manifestation set his pain receptors off in an eruption of retribution that left his flames guttering and his vision blurred as he wavered in the air. Nearby, at the same moment Sage's powers lit up about her hand, the clicking of gears from the Quantum Bauble became audible even to those still unable to see its true form, gaining volume and gradually picking up speed.

Pyre Will Save vs. DC 30. (1d20+5=12) I'm going to toss Eve an HP to reduce that to staggered and dazed; Sorus, get an IC post up for me, then let me tag with a GM post before Corbin goes, KD. As Indira slipped off, Eve similarly managed to lose herself in the chaos of the frightened crowd, the villains too distracted by Citizen's unexpected offer and their own bickering to pay much heed to which museum visitors were together or not. "Whatever we're going, Richard, we need to do it now," Sylph reminded their leader, her tone balancing a practiced sultry allure with justifiable impatience. "No sense pushing our luck." "Screw this, I'm just grabbing the thing," Pyre interjected, flaring past Citizen and looming closer to the Bauble's display, his sneering expression falling on the terrified Kimber in particular. "Who's gonna stop us? Look at this snot nosed brat, she look scared enough to -- " The fiery villain probably hadn't been planning to end his sentence with 'unhinge her jaw and let loose a blast of frigid winter cold accompanied by an unnatural howl of wind' but he did move quickly enough to dodge the cone of frosty force, flying higher and out of the way with a string of invective. "The hell?!" "Enough surprises!" Fathom gushed angrily. "Grab the Fifth Prime Element and destroy anyone in the way!"

None of the Factor Four can hit that, distracted as they are! If everyone could post their initiative - already got Wraith and Corbin's - I'll give it until tonight then get thing rolling in earnest!

For his part, Midnight failed to react to Indira's abrupt dissolution apart from a neutral grunt as he mentally noted which figure from the Columbus Day Parade footage the young woman had turned out to be. It certainly explained the unexpected weight on the Night Cycle at least. Wander's plan elicited a slightly graver response, the corners of his mouth turning down behind his mask. "Hnh. Right about tactics, still don't like it," he responded flatly. Erin had assessed the situation correctly, but simply dropping her off as bait sat poorly with him regardless. "Distraction is good, deviation will put them on guard. ...heh. Don't know new girls," he mused, turning his ruby lens covered gaze in Wraith's direction. "Drop you off to draw away heavy hitters," he agreed, elaborating, "Illusionist and shapeshifter free Edge. Sage undoes Overriders' mind control. Templar and I do exactly what they expect; flank the ringmaster, spring any traps." If they immediately did the unexpected alone, it would be clear something was afoot. Let the Terminus forces think themselves in the puppeteer's role as long as possible, before cutting their strings. He formed the plan into a mental map of the area and sent its impression to Eve over their telepathic bond.

To his credit, Trevor didn't let his the wildly conflicting feelings over Meaghan's horrific transformation slow him down as he slid silently into the sea of panicked guests, almost instantly disappearing from view. With his new privacy, the young man deftly undid the buttons of his jacket, revealing cleverly conceal compartments incorporated into his outfit. He began to reach for a flash grenade before realizing that the snake-creatures would likely not be overly hindered by a lack of vision. Instead he produced a flat bodied speaker, quickly attaching it to an amplifier that would send its emanations well below the frequency humans could hear. Taking up a position behind a convenient pillar, he placed it against the hall's floor, sending rippling waves of disorienting vibrations bouncing throughout its surface, playing havoc with the beasts' senses.

There may have been some confusion on both ends, Miss; I don't recall discussing this and certainly not signing off on it. To give you some context on why this would be problematic in practice, very few fights are going to actually last ten rounds in the first place. 'A new check every minute' might as well read 'they're not getting another check before the fight's over' in effect. That would be a little much for 1PP! Anyway, as Cape said, he's clearing the question up behind the scenes, so I'll let him get back to you on this, just chiming in since I saw my name!

The fascinated Factor Four get a -4 penalty to Notice, so... Professor Fathom: Notice Check vs. DC 21. (1d20+2=6) Granite: Notice Check vs. DC 21. (1d20=8) Pyre: Notice Check vs. DC 21. (1d20+1=11) Sylph: Notice Check vs. DC 21. (1d20+2=7)

Fathom pulled up short as Citizen flew up the greet him, looking at the teenager's proffered hand incredulously. The other members of the Factor Four looked blankly as well, obviously caught off-guard by the reception - although admittedly there wasn't much change in Granite's stoney expression of which to speak. "Perhaps I judge too quickly; you seem at least marginally more intelligent than the dull masses," their leader allowed, pointedly leaving Sharl's hand hanging in the air which he made a gesture reminiscent of straightening lapels about his liquid shoulders. "The basement? Hmm..." "What? Boss, c'mon!" Pyre protested, his flames flaring noisily as he flew forward the span of a few paces. "You're not seriously going to cut some random punk in, are you? I say we toast him and anybody else in our way, grab this thing and whatever's stored away!" The rest of the Claremont students around the display case could hear Kimber's breathing get louder and halting as her wide eyes focused on the burning villain. "Silence, fool, before I'm forced to douse you myself," Fathom snapped angrily, his attention divided as he considered his options, watched for signs of incoming heroes and dealt with his own team. Granite shifted his weight with a grating sound of rock sliding on rock. "...so ain't nobody gonna ask why there's some flyin' kid hangin' around, huh? Alright."

Let's call it Fascinate so he can affect all of Factor Four, but it will cost an HP to get the feat for a turn! Professor Fathom: Sense Motive Check vs. DC 25. (1d20+10=19) Granite: Will Save vs. DC 25. (1d20+3=10) Pyre: Bluff Check vs. DC 25. (1d20+7=19) Sylph: Bluff Check vs. DC 25. (1d20+10=12) Alright, they're all fascinated, but they're wary of some upstart trying to cut himself in on the action. With Heroic Feat, Sharl can only maintain this for the one round, so if anyone's planning something sneaky, it'd have to be now! Remember that any overtly threatening action - drawing a weapon, armoring up and so on - breaks the fascination automatically.

Ghost Girl spiraled upward close to the ceiling as she tried to regain a sense of what was happening in the melee below. Equinox managed to land a solid hit on one of the bizarre card-men but on the whole the fight didn't seem to be going well as far as the phantom could tell, her hooded head whipping back and forth as she watched Nick take a nasty counter attack and the creature with the horn blasted a dreadful noise. WhatdoIdowhatdoIdowhatdoI... The poltergeist's eyes widened with indecision before abruptly narrowing, the pupils fading out into blue-tinted milky white as she reflexively sniffed the air in a predatory fashion. Their foes might not have been entirely of this world, but she could smell the fear of their host bodies, buried beneath whatever had transformed them so violently, sickly sweet and dense with shabbily hidden secrets. Floating to the middle of the room, her form flickered and warped, her reaper's cloak billowing outward and lengthening as she lost her youthful appearance in favour of something porcelain and timeless, the flawless, terrible features of something that did not belong on this side of the veil. Cold radiance poured from her in waves of light that threatened to freeze eyelids open and helplessly staring. She hung there silently for a beat, then another, until every eye was upon her. The with the suddenness of something appearing in the corner of one's eye, her perfect skin tightened about bone, forming skeletal hands and empty sockets, the undeniable visage of death shrieking horribly as it cast its empty gaze across the room. "SRKEEEE!"

Kimber made a glum face at the irritated look Koshiro shot her but Sharl's reading of the Bauble's placard at least cleared up the confusion. If she was being completely honest, the phantom would have had to admit that being as used as she was to passing through walls and other objects unhindered, the holographic youth placing his hand into the case barely registered with her until Corbin snapped angrily, a which point she hopped back from the display, not incidentally placing Indira between her and the fuming upperclassman. Ducking her head down between her shoulder blades, she listened to Eve's explanation of the Universal Clock. "Wow! That's just--" The Canadian's exclamation was cut short by a crash of glass as the done overhead was shattered my a massive, rocky form. Eight feet and two thousand pounds of orange-brown stone in the rough shaped of a man collided with the museum floor, leaving an appreciable crater and sending visitors running screaming for the exits. As the hulking thing stood up, a torrent of water slid like a python through the opening in the ceiling, followed by a semi-transparent cloud of gas and a streak of roaring flame. Each coalesced into a humanoid form instantly recognizable as the Atom Family's long time and frequent foes the Factor Four! "There it is!" crowed Professor Fathom is a voice like water circling a drain. "The fifth Prime Element and my -- rather our ticket to mastery of our element forms!" "Richard, I still don't think that's--" Sylph began, not looking particularly pleased to be there. Granite and Pyre, for their part, were occupied looking about expectantly and spoiling for a fight. Fathom interrupted her, sliding closer to the Bauble's display, his body from the waist down a geyser leaving a spreading puddle that reached the feet of the Claremont students. "Enough, Sylvia! We'll grab the Element and discuss this later! Out of the way, idiot children!"

Alrighty then. Ghost Girl Free Action: Switch to Terrible Beauty AP. Move Action: Detect Fear Notice check. (1d20+11=26) Standard Action: Emotion Control [Fear] That's a DC22 Will Save for anyone who can see her. It isn't, unfortunately, Selective, but Dead Head has Fearless and Nick and Equinox have meaty Will Saves so fingers crossed. That Detect Fear power is Analytical, for the sake of argument, so it may tell her something useful.

Clearing his throat quietly with the faintest brush of a sooty black colouring his cheeks beneath his sunglasses, Trevor gave Erin a small but genuine smile as he relaxed slightly. "I win, too. Meag never understood it was a team sport." There was a odd sort of settling in the back of his mind, a sort of closure that he hadn't realized he'd still needed clicking into place. "Thank you," he repeated more quietly. Now all they had to do was thwart a mysterious attempt by likely malicious subspecies to build up a power base in the homeland of their friend's princess. A simple task, relatively.

Trevor's neck was a coil of knotted steel cable under Erin's fingers, but he shook his head slightly. "Didn't start anything because they only have to wait until the wedding," he pointed out, his tone a little dark as he pointedly avoided talking about the other conflict of the evening. "Incident could blow their cover or cause delay. Hnh. Need to talk to Mark, see what the princess can learn." There were a few moments of silence as he unconsciously pulled Erin's waist imperceptibly closer. "...sorry about that. Thank you for not hitting her."

"Set whatever rules you like, kitten," Meaghan told Erin almost off-handedly, most of her attention still on shooting her date for the evening a sharp look. "You just let me know when you've figured out which game we're playing, mmh?" "Wouldn't need to be too familiar," Trevor noted in a level tone that contrasted with the Socotran man's bluster, "with a shapeshifter's ring." It was a little more direct that he'd planned on being a moment ago, but considering how much he wanted to rearrange that sneer into something only vaguely recognizable as a mouth he felt he was still demonstrating commendable subtlety. Before any more words could be traded, the music began and couples around the room began to take to the dance floor. Simultaneously making small signs of annoyance at the slow tempo of the ballad and pretending not to notice the synchronicity, Trevor and Meaghan pulled their respective partners to opposite corners of the hall.
