2. Because we need one of these now!
3. Ellie rested her cheek in one hand, propping her elbow on the table as she accepted the glass with a knowing smile. While it might not have been uncommon for young people their age to procure alcohol one way or another, Mara brought a surprising amount of dignity and determination to the practice. She was also fond of clarifying that particular bit of legality, something which Ellie was always willing to indulge. She straightened, her smile turning absolutely beaming as her girlfriend confirmed that the day had ultimately been a success. "The first of many. To us." Raising her own glass, she tapped its edge gently against its twin.
4. Gal Vanic née Ghost Girl zipped in a downward arc trailing neon blue lightning in her wake, catching the unconscious Rogue by the collar of her outfit and circling around to meet up with the others. "You're lucky I've actually got hand right now," she told the villainess in a frosty tone more in keeping with her usual chilling powerset. "And that I'm one of the good guys." Pulling up where Citizen and Cobalt Templar were recovering, the electrified paragon was comparatively bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. "Hey, you guys! I zapped Keres but good! Are you already done here? Did you figure out what to do with those bomb things?"
5. Midnight was slow to answer, consciously maintaining his trademark aplomb despite the taxing situation. If standing in Wander's now gigantic hand had been disconcerting, actually being next to her proportionally enlarged face was downright disorienting. The effect was compounded by how little the young man really wanted to dwell on the greater consequences of Erin's transformation; they simply didn't have time to fret over that yet and it wouldn't have resulted in anything productive anyway. "Hn. Leave them to the fliers," he suggested finally, watching the crowded skyline. Even with Wander's new height, there were plenty of terrestrial concerns with which they could occupy themselves. As if to underscore that point, the sound of bending metal and crumbling stone came from behind them. One entire wall of the zoo's Lizard and Reptile House had been reduced to rubble and a good half dozen alligators, snakes and other scaled creatures the size of minivans clamoured out, hissing angrily. The rest of the structure soon followed as dark green, spine covered form erupted upward, the lizard growing first to comparable height to Erin herself, then even further until it towered over even her. A flick of its tail cracked the pavement of the pathway below as the monster focused on the only other moving thing large enough to draw its attention. "I did not realize Earth fauna was so interesting," Redbird remarked curiously as the mutated beast and its smaller brethren charged.
6. "Well I can't imagine drinking age applies in a bubble of subjectively different time flow, yeah?" Ellie chuckled, setting down her plate on the table and sliding out her chair. With sudden inspiration, she stepped over to the wall to dim the lights in the kitchen a bit then lifted one hand to summon a glowing ball of soft blue light over the table, creaking a bit of makeshift ambiance. It wasn't exactly a candelabra, but it had some charm. With a small smile that couldn't quite decide if it was embarrassed or pleased, she took her seat.
7. Distracted by a particle of dust or something that had gotten into her eye at conspicuously the same time as Yolanda had disappeared through the dimensional gate, it took Jill until Dragonfly lowered the metal plates covering her face to process what was being said. As Mara broke away from the brief kiss, the taller girl's eye widened slightly. "Oh, don't you dare--" By then it was already too late and the armored heroine had teleported away. The refugees still in the Vault were treated to an impromptu lesson in Earth-Prime expletives and projection. Eventually dialing down to a vexed hiss, Jill rubbed her eyes again and stepped over to man the tunneler. Someone had to stay behind and continue ushering the civilians through, she knew, but that didn't provide much comfort. "Love you, too," she mumbled quietly under her breath as the little blue light beside her blinked back to life.
8. His Device still isn't formatted correctly. Here's what it looks like you're trying for: Device 9 (45 Points; Flaw: Easy to Lose; Power Feat: Restricted 2 [usable Only By Hern]) [29PP] (Hunter's Sceptre) Hunter's Scepter Array 20 (Power Feats: Alternate Power 2) [42PP] Base: Snare 7 (Extras: Linked [Drain 6]; Power Feat: Tether [700 ft]) [15PP] (technology) + Drain 6 (All Powers; Power Feat: Incurable) [25PP] (technology, electricity) [15+25=40PP] (ranged mode) AP: Damage 10 (Extras: Linked [Nauseate 10], Penetrating) [20PP] (bludgeoning, technology, electricity) + Nauseate 10 (Extras: Linked [Nauseate 10], Penetrating) [20PP] (technology, electricity) [20+20=40PP] (melee mode) AP: Concealment 10 (All Senses) [20PP] (technology, electricity) Teleport 8 (Power Feats: Change Direction, Change Velocity, Easy, Turnabout; 800' Move, 2000 Miles Full Action) [20PP] (technology, electricity) [20+20=40PP] (mobility mode) And here's the raw formatting so you can see how to do it yourself going forward: Device 9 (45 Points; Flaw: Easy to Lose; Power Feat: Restricted 2 [Usable Only By Hern]) [29PP] (Hunter's Sceptre) [device]Hunter's Scepter Array 20 (Power Feats: Alternate Power 2) [42PP] [array]AP: Snare 7 (Extras: Linked [Drain 6]; Power Feat: Tether [700 ft]) [15PP] (technology) + Drain 6 (All Powers; Power Feat: Incurable) [25PP] (technology, electricity) [15+25=40PP] (ranged mode) AP: Damage 10 (Extras: Linked [Nauseate 10], Penetrating) [20PP] (bludgeoning, technology, electricity) + Nauseate 10 (Extras: Linked [Nauseate 10], Penetrating) [20PP] (technology, electricity) [20+20=40PP] (melee mode) AP: Concealment 10 (All Senses) [20PP] (technology, electricity) Teleport 8 (Power Feats: Change Direction, Change Velocity, Easy, Turnabout; 800' Move, 2000 Miles Full Action) [20PP] (technology, electricity) [20+20=40PP] (mobility mode)[/array][/device] There's some room for flexibility, of course. If you prefer to have an extra space between some of those lines and so on that's not an issue. But we need to know where to look to find the PP cost of a power and we need to be able to tell at a glance what's in a Device and what's in an Array. More importantly, you'll note that you do have to pay for the Alternate Power power feat on the Array for each of its 'settings' after the first. That means that the Array costs 42PP altogether. That becomes awkward since Device gives multiples of 5PP; you either need to shave 2PP or spend 3 more. Looking at the combat caps right now, he meets offensive caps only with his Scepter's 'melee mode', at +10 Attack and +10 DC for a total of DC 25 for the Toughness Save and DC 20 for the Fortitude Save. (Difficulty Checks go in a single box at the very bottom of the sheet for ease of reference, incidentally, and his Attack Specializaion feat should say 'Hunter's Scepter' not 'Device', as more formatting things go.) He doesn't hit caps with his 'ranged mode', since those effects are only +7 and +8 respectively. That's not bad, but it means he's considerably more effective up close. Defensively, he's still below caps since he has +10 Defense and only +7 Toughness. Just like offensive caps, the two should average out to his PL. For example, he could have +10 Defense and +10 Toughness or +13 Defense and +7 Toughness depending on your concept. I know you were expressing some concerns about this being too difficult a build to start off with. The good news is that it's not really that complicated! You can definitely make this work. You may need to take a step back and go over the Device and Array rules again, though, looking at some in-play sheets as examples. It's likely going to require some patience, so fair warning.
9. Floating invisibly overhead, the specter known as Ghost Girl paused her flight, pulling back the hood of her tattered reaper's cloak as she shimmered into sight like something suddenly appearing out of the corner of one's eye. Bringing the talisman she'd received from Nick Cimitiere in front of her eyes, the teenage poltergeist frowned slightly as she considered the telekinetically suspended communication device and tried to remember how to operate it. "Hello? Is this-- okay, ha, there we go!" she spoke into the slate, her voice chipper. "I haven't seen anything spooky so far, nope!" The junior hero was thrilled to be asked along to help with the investigation, although she wasn't overly looking forward to running into whatever had burned Angela Zilani. Being a hero means doing the right thing even if you're scared, she reminded herself, resolutely jutting out her lip as she put her hood back up and continued her search.
10. Realizing the girl spoke Spanish, Jill set her down carefully and knelt in front of her, placing a comforting hand on the orphan's shoulder and addressing her in the same language. "" She held up one pinky finger in front of the girl, her expression proving how solemnly she was taking the vow. "" She didn't love the idea of leaving the girl alone, even to send her to safety, but she couldn't leave herself until they'd made sure Erin and Steve were alright.
11. "That's crazy talk," Jack scoffed as Gabriel easily finished off the overconfident demon. The fencer gestured to his bare torso emphasizing his abs. "All'a this? Never wears off." His smirk twisted for a moment into a grimace as he raised his empty hand to the side of his head. "Nnf. Let's not plan bowling night just yet, oh champions of romance. We're standing on top of the demonic version of a spring break beach bonfire." Looking in Harrier's direction, he elaborated, "Hellfire. It's like fire. But from hell. More with the all consuming flame, less with the smore making." Jogging over the bar, he vaulted over it acrobatically and scanned in either direction. "Either of you see what happened the the bartender?"
12. Jill laughed a little at Samson's bearhug, carefully making sure the little girl in her arms wasn't squashed between them too badly. It was a relief to see some semblance of hope returning to the faces in the Vault, if only in flickers amidst the still stifling miasma of quiet desperation and she gave her girlfriend an approving grin. The tugging on her sleeve got her attention quickly though, turning her concerned expression to the child as she pointed urgently. "What is is, hun?" she asked in what she hoped was a reassuring tone, following the direction of the finger to the ceiling. Dread mounting, the metamagi's hands lit up with blue light, ready to bring forth a protective barrier at a moment's notice. "I think we might want to pick up the pace a bit," she told Dragonfly under her breath.
13. "Max Muscle!" a feminine, alto voice called from overhead as the Night Cycle appeared in the sky over the Martel estate, its frame having stretched out to better resemble the Wyldride their new guest had arrived on and its wheels having been replaced with deep crimson sphere of levitating energy interspersed with dots of black. The vehicle slid gracefully down to float next to the other bike before the voice came again from within it, "Well met, warrior." With a faint sound of shifting machinery, a piece of the Night Cycle's front paneling retracted to extend a round, gleaming device which immediately projected a life sized, three dimensional figure on the patio. The simulated woman was easily six feet tall with an athletic frame that made her wider at the shoulders than anyone there save Corbin and the brown haired young man she'd called Max. Perhaps in her late twenties, her high cheek bones and chiseled features were more obviously Furion than those of the newcomer, framed by dark red hair. On the whole she could have passed for a close relative of Trevor's, though those who'd met Red Falcon before his heroic end were able to note a number of similarities to that hero as well, particularly in her manner of dress, though the outfit featured far more black. Looking Max up and down, the autonomic machine intelligence folded her arms. "...I think you may have actually grown taller since we last met. Impressive!" "Gather you know him, Redbird?" Trevor asked mildly, his stance casual as he looked from his copilot to the muscular warrior. Recognizing the Furion technology, he'd been about to call for her anyway. Though he didn't care for unexpected and unannounced arrivals, this was at least one character witness in Max's favour.
14. "I'm distracting you?" Ellie scoffed, planting one hand on the hip Mara had bumped and jutting out her lower lip in a feigned pout that looked more than a little comical on her habitually sardonic features. With a theatrical sigh, she followed the inventor's instructions, looking over occasionally for confirmation that she was doing it correctly. It wasn't so much that she expected some sort of culinary catastrophe as she didn't want to waste any of the food or inadvertently delay their meal or other plans for the evening. Fortunately, stirring noodles about a pot with a wooden spoon turned out to be well within her capabilities. Something about the simple, rhythmic work was surprisingly soothing, in fact.
15. Jill turned from her conversation with Harold's wife as the scientists reemerged into the larger part of the Vault and began walking toward them, carrying the soft spoken little blonde girl in her arms. The latter was looking considerably better than she had when Dragonfly and the other technicians had gone off to begin work on their ride back home, her burns having disappeared and her spirits improved, even if that really wasn't saying much. "Hey! I made a friend." The medic gave the girl a big smile, and if she wasn't quite up to returning it or saying anything just yet, she at least looked from person to person without hiding her face. "Everybody's more or less mobile," Jill told Samson more seriously. "Aside from the debilitating exhaustion, I mean. Nobody's in any immediate danger anymore, but more than a few of them are going to need to spend a few days under observation before I'd call them out of the woods. You manage to call us a cab?" she asked Mara.
16. "Er, it's actually 'Gal Vanic', y'know, 'cause of the zap? See?" Kimber attempted to correct the soldiers through stifled giggles of bashful glee at the warm response. "Citizen is the-- well, actually, I guess I am wearing his coat, so... Close enough!" She decided, flying in a quick loop with a laugh. Hovering just off of the ground in front of the first soldier who had taken off his mask, she indicated the bomb with a more serious expression. "Okay, I think I'm going to have to come back for that, 'cause my friends might be in really big trouble, okay? You probably shouldn't let anyone get too close to it unless they're really sure they know what they're doing." Quickly getting rough directions to the docks where Corbin was hopefully already joining their teammates, she lifted off, offering the locals a wave and a broad smile that wrinkled the freckles over her nose. "Thanks for the cheering, guy, you're sweethearts! Stay safe!"
17. Colour rising in her cheeks, Ellie had to plant her tongue firmly in the side of her mouth to keep her expression schooled. "Well, you're the creative problem solver, cariño," she agreed, nodding with all the solemness she could manage. "Seems like it might undercut the 'cleaner' goal, but I defer to your learned judgement." Though thoroughly failing to hide her enthusiasm for more than a few moments, she nevertheless returned her attention to the pot and stove. "But! Like you said, food first, before we get, ahem, distracted." She paused with the uncooked pasta in her hand, silent for a beat before admitting, "I've only got a vague idea what I'm doing here." Though well experienced with any number of microwaveable dishes and familiar with the general concept of putting noodles into boiling water, she wasn't sure if she was missing some of the steps or not.
18. "Dios!" Jill swore as the bile began seeping from the man's mouth as viscous, black slop. It didn't take a huge intuitive leap to recognize the effects of the 'dragonfire' Heartbeat had mentioned earlier, decaying the can from the inside out. The medic didn't even want to think about which organs the substance leaking from his pained features had been originally even as she was able to reflexively make some educated guesses. There was no question that the man had seconds to live, the entropic rot accelerating before her eyes. Like hell he does. Hands instantly blazing like twin suns, the metamagi planted one palm on the stricken man's chest and the other across his face, the bile sizzling away at her touch like fat on a griddle. "C'mon, Harold, what'd I just say about lying down and dying, huh?" she grunted in obvious strain, sweat beading along her forehead between her hairline and the top of her bandana mask as she pushed herself further, feeling the insidious decay within the body actively working against her. "Hunf, that all you got, you Terminus piece of-- ung!" she muttered under her breath, narrowing her eyes. "You're in m-my dojo, now." With a final burst of light, Jill was physically thrown back a step, falling heavily on her backside. Harold, for his part, was not only no longer spitting up sticky tar, but was moving about on his own, letting the blanket drop to the floor as he embraced his wife in stunned relief. Thankfully, the smell had largely subsided as well. Lying on her back and breathing heavily, Jill looked up to see a young girl looking down at her with a fairly perturbed expression. "Hey, niña. Here, shake my hand. Apparently I'm pretty much just awesome."
19. Healing Check. (1d20+12=31) Persistent for the Incurable and Stabilize to, y'know. Stabilize him.
20. "You and June Cleaver, peas in a pod," Ellie snorted, leaning over Mara's shoulder in a manner that was not at all conducive to food preparation. Pitching her voice a little lower, she added, "Luckily, I rather like playing house with you." Taking a impish, skipping step back toward the sink, she smirked shamelessly as she filled the pot with water. As she shut the tap off she paused in realization. "Oh, nertz. I guess the plumbing's going to be kinda weird until the relative speed inside and outside evens out again. Do you think there's enough in your water heater for a shower?" she asked, biting the corner of her mouth as she wished she'd planned ahead a little more. "Some of us weren't in climate controlled armor during all the jumping and running and fighting."
21. Ellie can Auto 20 Notice and Auto 28 Medicine. She has decent Life Sciences and Physical Sciences bonuses too, it that makes a difference.
22. While Cobalt Templar sped off into the sky, Gal Vanic privately hoped her suggestion hadn't been a big mistake. Even if she wasn't quite as sure about her ability to handle the antagonistic AI as she'd tried to sound, she knew her friends were in real danger. It was that thought that made the paragon square her digital jaw as she flew backward several meters, circling around in a broad arc and forcing the disoriented Keres to stumble about to keep her in sight. "Y'know, I don't even get what the matter with you is! You can't just go around planting bombs and being a huge jerk! How can you even think that's okay?!" Hovering well out of reach, she balled her hands into fists and shouted, "Why don't you just go away!" Her infuriated gaze abruptly sparked with electrical energy, throwing off wild arcs of power even as twin lightning bolts shot from her eyes and slammed into Keres indignant face. Gal Vanic continued to pour on the pour for several seconds more, the intensity of the light from the wave of raw power forcing many of the onlookers to shield their eyes. When she finally stopped, the hulking brute had simply faded from existence altogether, disconnected from Tronik's computers, she supposed. "Haha! Did you see that?!" she whooped exuberantly, flying low to grin broadly at the assembled guards. "Out of my eyes! Out of my eyes! Woo! Who da Gal? I'm da Gal!"
23. Redbird Full Action: Enhance Vehicle. Enhance Dodge 4 [4PP] Speed 10 (Power Feats: Moving Feint, Set-Up) [12PP]
24. It was Ellie's turn to be momentarily but thoroughly distracted by her partner's hands, making an exaggeratedly vexed sound in the back of her throat as she followed Mara into the kitchen with a grin. "Mmmh... So I should have ordered take out before using the time lightning, is what you're saying," she chuckled, rooting around the cupboards for the necessary pot and strainer. It felt surprisingly good to do something so mundane with her girlfriend there with her, like a portent of many similar evening stretching forward into a welcome future. The corner of her mouth turning upward, she teased, "Or were you alluding to some imminent need for stockpiled carbohydrates? Scandal!"
25. Gal Vanic Move Action: Fly just far enough out that the staggered Keres can't get to her and attack in the same round. Standard Action: Electrical Blast, Power Attack 4. (1d20+7=24) That should be DC 30.
