Ellie made a surprised gesture just short of a double-take at that. As a rule, the medic was not particularly patient with the foibles generally subscribed to their age group, but she'd also gained enough self-awareness over the past year to admit to maintaining a certain personal style. While at one point that had meant dressing contrary to the norm for reasons as ultimately shallow as those for conforming, her current vogue was one she felt confident in claiming as something her own. Those weren't ruminations she'd ever really mentioned to Mara. The practical, matter-of-fact way the engineer approached even something as seemingly frivolous as jewelry was part of what was so attractive about her and part of what made her so phenomenal at everything she did. Seeing her relaxed enough to even consider such things in the first place, though, brought a broad grin to Ellie's face. "Ooh, you fashion plate, you!"

"Well, if I'm doing it right I'd certainly hope so," Ellie shot back, affecting a throaty purr as she linked her arm around her girlfriend's so that their bent elbows entwined. It wasn't just the enjoyable moment that brought a persistent, lopsided smile to the sienna-toned girl's lips. They'd certainly made sure to find time for moments together in the past few months, but always with the ever-present stress of a million other obligations and tasks hanging over their heads. With the whole day set aside just for this, for them, it was like a weight had been lifted, allowing her to appreciate everything without reservation. Shifting her weight to her toes as they climbed the steep pathway, the young woman took in a row of tightly packed buildings to one side, brightly painted in reds and yellows with overlapping tile rooftops. It was an entirely different style than the architecture of Freedom City, adhering to an older sensibility. Eventually their wandering through narrow spaces brought them to a more open area, a pavilion encircled by terraced store fronts with fountains and landscaping in the center. It was unapologetically aimed at tourists, but charmingly so, and undeniably gorgeous.

"Well, it's up to you, birthday girl," Ellie responded in the slightly teasing tone that accompanied very nearly all of her affectionate statements. "We could head further into the city to start," she suggested, tearing her eyes away from the breathtaking vista before them to look more closely at the paths available to them in the opposite direction. "Can check out the buildings, see what's there in the way of shops and restaurants and such." Cuenca had a well established tourism industry, as she understood it, so there were bound to be options.

Lifting her lower jaw back into more normal proportions with both hands, Ghost Girl had to take a moment to work it back and forth and massage her stretched ectoplasm into shape. All the while she gave the trashing abomination a look that was somewhere between frustration and pert disapproval. "Oooh!" Stamping her foot in the empty air, the phantasm balled her fists and soared forward, coming up around the opposite side of the creature from Wraith. "C'mon, guys, we just need to keep wearing it down!" With that, she raked suddenly six inch long fingernails deep into leathery, bark-like flesh, the immaterial digits slipping in without resistance but leaving an unearthly, strength-sapping chill in their wake.

Even by her energetic standards, Kimber was clearly excited about the field trip, and for several reasons. The phantom couldn't remember any real details about her life before her death, but she absolutely knew who the Centurion was. Her feelings about it having been nearly two decades since he fell defending the world from Omega were somewhat mixed; on one hand the loss felt vaguely fresher than that to her, but on the other her perspective on death wasn't quite so morose as that held by most beings. Regardless, getting to visit his secret base was just about the neatest thing she could readily imagine! She wasn't entirely sure she followed Sharl's explanation of how the Sanctum tied in with his home - she was still a little iffy on the distinction between 'holographically projected digital intelligence' and 'robot ghost' - but she could recognize the young man's good cheer easily enough. While not nearly so perpetually dour as Koshiro, Sharl often seemed a bit put out by working and living conditions in Freedom City and the world at large. It was nice to see him in such good spirits for once, and Kimber was looking forward to learning more about Tronik the way Indira had taught her about Kinigos. The final reason for her enthusiasm was likely unique amongst the group: they were in the Arctic! In winter! The beautiful, frigid fields of snow and ice outside the airplane's windows were just about the most welcoming landscape the frosty poltergeist could imagine. She'd adopted a pale, lavender-blue sundress over her ethereal form and taken to floating about the space between rows of seats despite repeated attempts to get her to sit down. In her defense, the immaterial teenager was neither in any actual danger from her position nor could she have been in the way even if she'd wanted to be.

MacElvie thanked Al-Misri warmly and began to make a bit of small talk with the volunteers while saying hello to the excited children themselves. A slight rustling in the nearby Christmas tree caught LaMarr's eye, drawing his attention as one of the shiny red bulbs jostled about for a split second. He was about to turn back to the small girl tugging at his pant leg when he saw it quite clearly shake again, as if something had reverberated through the branch. Gradually a resounding booming noise rose above the collective laughter and happy chatter to sound in time with the increasingly violent shaking, a silver ornament from higher in the tree coming loose and shattering on the mall's floor. "What in..." The source of the monstrous footfalls rose abruptly into view, towering over the shopping center's glass atrium as in approached, pausing to roar, a terrible sound somewhere between a goat's bleating and a jungle cat's throaty rumble. Covered in shaggy, green-grey fur over most of it's hunched, lanky form, the creature's gaunt face was framed in stringy black hair that fell on either side of a toothy maw of razor sharp teeth and concealed the bases of two massive, curving horns each the girth of a city bus. Impossible huge iron chains dangled from wrought manacles on each wrist while a one clawed hang gripped a half dozen birch tree trucks clearly ripped right from the ground, roots and all. The other hand pulled at the strap holding a gargantuan woven basket across the beast's back, a lid sealing it tight. A long, pointed tongue lolled from it grinning mouth as beady eyes spotted the gathering below. "My god," MacElvie breathed in the stunned silence. "Giant Krampus."

Dutifully placing a hand over her eyes as the device activated, Ellie still lurched slightly as her ears pop disconcertingly, leaning slightly against Mara for support. All the spatial warping and physics twisting never seemed to trouble the technopath overly much, perhaps because she had a full understanding of the mechanics of what was happening, the pre-med student supposed. "Faster is right," she managed in a half-laugh as she stepped out into the room, giving herself a moment to get her bearings. "This is pretty wild. I'm almost kinda nervous to look outside." That trepidation proved to be far outweighed by her excitement as she stepped out into the sunlight, shielding her eyes with one hand. The pathway outside their arrival point dropped off suddenly just a few meters out, falling away into a rugged cliffside. Multi-storey buildings wrapped with balconies formed a wall about the edge of the city, looking out from the mountainside while street heading upward led to ever taller tiers of building behind them. "Wow..."

ic Can I Borrow A Cup of Adventure? (IC)
Gizmo replied to Avenger Assembled's topic in The North End
With a soft exhalation through his nose that could have been taken as a sign of amusement, Trevor flipped the tool closed and replaced it in his belt before walking over to wrap one arm around Erin's waist and lean over to kiss her lightly on the forehead, careful to avoid disturbing Charlie. "It actually is good work," he observed of the questionable timepiece, "Just some parts jostled loose. Could probably incorporate it into an alarm system..." The engineer's eyes unfocused slightly, imagined blueprints unfolding before them before he brought his attention back to the present. "Ready whenever you are."- 118 replies

ic Can I Borrow A Cup of Adventure? (IC)
Gizmo replied to Avenger Assembled's topic in The North End
Trevor rubbed one thumb along his jawline thoughtfully once Mark had departed, the insistent cuckoo clock continuing to sound on the table next to him. The idea of Mark looking to him as a role model was a surprising one, though he had to admit that 'turning the Eiffel Tower into a robot mime-attracting super-magnet' was the sort of thing he'd make expected his friend to come up with before he did, so perhaps it ran both ways. Shaking his head, he retired a compact multitool from his belt and deftly unscrewed the side of the clock, setting it aside before carefully removing a piece of the offending mechanism to silence it until he could affect repairs in earnest.- 118 replies

"Tch, gal might get the impression she wasn't wanted hanging about," Ghost Girl muttered from the corner of her mouth, self-consciously straightening her reaper's cloak as Equinox listed off the numerous parties eager to show lingering spirits the proverbial door. They certainly seemed to have the deceased's best interests at heart but she wondered how many bothered to find out the ghosts' position on the matter. Nick seemed to be a little more diplomatic about it at least, which she appreciated though she suspected the female practitioner would be less likely to mince words to spare her feelings if unpleasant truths were ever the order of the day. Her eyes lit up from beneath her cowl at the repeated mentions of the previous Hallowe'en, her head turning from one elder hero to the next. "Ooh, that sounds like a story!" she exclaimed excitedly, floating slightly higher in the air and clapping her hands together.

ic Can I Borrow A Cup of Adventure? (IC)
Gizmo replied to Avenger Assembled's topic in The North End
Taking the proffered bottle from Mark, Trevor lifted it in his hand to measure its heft. He wasn't typically one for alcohol; even at high society events where a little wine was to be expected he usually got away with sticking to water. If ever there was a time, however... With muted sigh, he set the bottle down on the counter unopened and turned to regard his friend frankly. "You dating Erin-Prime would be... uncomfortable for me," he admitted, trying to be as clear and honest as he could. "Probably more so for our Erin. If you really think there's something there..." He shrugged his shoulders slowly. "Otherwise."- 118 replies

ic Can I Borrow A Cup of Adventure? (IC)
Gizmo replied to Avenger Assembled's topic in The North End
With his fingers wrapped around the handle of the half-full pot of lukewarm coffee, Trevor has without warning set upon by a surprisingly strong impulse to chuck the carafe in the general direction of his friend's head. It wasn't out of any actual desire to inflict harm on Mark. There was, as the young dark-haired man understood it, essentially a less-than-zero chance of such a projectile spilling so much as a drop on the hapless probability controller, but it still seemed like the vaguely appropriate if cartoonish response. Instead, he replied by dumping out the remainder of the brew into the sink, rinsing it out and replacing it to receive the fresh drip he'd simultaneously started, muttering incoherently under his breath as he poked through Erin's cupboards for anything with which to Irish the drink.- 118 replies

She's shifted for Defense and Damage respectively, in what I like to think of as the 'Harley Quinn with a giant mallet' configuration, with her slow-fall boots letting her bound around the battlefield. Her only out-and-out super-power is a danger sense that mirrors her 'Pinkie Sense'. Her primary method of attack is her party cannon, a BFG's BFG. A Ghostbuster-esque proton stream allows her to giggle at the ghostie while missile barrage and grenade launcher options give her plenty of flash and bang. Tying up that many points in an Easy to Lose Device is always a risk, but luckily Pinkie's got a couple more options to fall back on. Without her weapon, she can switch all the way to being Attack shifted with her martial arts training and Acrobatic Bluff, giving anyone expecting an inaccurate heavy-hitter a surprise. What's more, she's accompanied by Gummy, her pet alligator. Pet giant alligator in this case!

A quiet, unassuming nature lover, she's timid to the point of freezing up at the first sign conflict... unless her friends are in trouble. Then the guano really hits the proverbial fan. Do you understand what I'm saying here? Fluttershy will ruin you. What I came up with for this build was an shapeshifter that borrows heavily from AA's Animal Mimic but has a few twists of its own. For one thing, she specifically mimics mythological creatures, with sample configurations based on some of the monsters she's gone up against on the show. The Partial Transformation flaw means that she can only mimic limbs and other qualities, not actually assume the full form of a creature for disguise or other purposes. I could probably be convinced that it should be a drawback instead, but since it's only saving her 2PP as it is, it's largely moot. She's got big, feathery wings and variable claws and fangs outside of the variable power, so she doesn't need to worry about hitting caps. With +20 Handle Animal, Animal Empathy and Comprehend Animals, chances are she can round up some surprising allies or informants when the situation calls for it, and her stare is a palpable Despair effect. Seriously, she won a staring contest with a cockatrice. Don't mess.

She can come across as a vain, overly-dramatic fashionista. And, well, she is. She's also an extremely hard-working perfectionist who routinely puts others ahead of herself without having to be asked, as befits the embodiment of the Element of Generosity. Her special talent has to do with fashion design, with her signature style being the incorporation of gemstones into her dresses and other clothes. That's the thread upon which this build is hung. By default, Rarity is a sort of more fashionable geokinetic, specifically making barriers and projectiles from gems. Her fire ruby and opal themed attacks are little nods to the show itself and give her options to exploit any particularly vulnerable saves her opponent might have. A full suite of Diplomacy and Gather Information related bonuses and feats should let her avoid a direct confrontation a lot of the time. When push comes to shove, however, this build can make like Emma Frost and transform into an invulnerable, gemstone-skinned tank with diamond-hard fists. Sometimes even a lady just has to kick the bad guys in the head, after all.

Embodying the Element of Loyalty, as a superhero Rainbow Dash would probably be some mix of DCAU Wally West and Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan. She's cocky and boastful with the skills to back it up and rock-solid dependability despite her careless attitude. As such, I've built her as a flying speedster! She can just about break the sound barrier by default and get up to truly mad speeds by using the Power Reserve idea borrowed from builds like Ecal's Speedster. Take advantage of her mobility by using Moving Feint and Move-by-Action. Note that this version doesn't actually have wings, she just flies under her own power entirely. As a pegasus pony, it's Rainbow Dash's job to control the weather by manipulating clouds, and this build shares that ability, giving her some options to affect the terms of the fight including a lightning blast. Finally, in a really tight spot, she can pull out her signature move, the sonic rainboom! As built here, the rainboom will knock around and blind anybody in a 20 mile radius. It is not Selective and will tire the heck out of Rainbow, making it a fun, ace-in-the-hole desperation move.

I spent a lot of time trying to come up with an angle that didn't scream 'Wonder Woman' quite so much before just going with it. As a result, she's probably the most straight-forward of any of these builds. Enhanced physical ability scores bring her up to caps and give her some decent saves even when she's just duking it out with her bare fists, while Improved Grab and Improved Grapple make her a pretty dandy wrassler. Her lasso, however, gives her some much more interesting options. Its default setting is a single-target Snare that can force an opponent trapped by it to speak the truth. Applejack's sizable Sense Motive bonus should give her the edge against anyone who makes that Will save, while the Effortless extra lets her keep trying as long as her captive is tied up. Alternatively, she can 'crack the whip' for a Damage/Trip effect or swing from place to place at high speed.

The point-of-view character for much of the show, Twilight's special talent is literally just 'magic', which means more when you realize that other ponies' talents are generally things like harvesting apples, throwing parties or making dresses. Twilight Sparkle walking into Ponyville is pretty much like Gandalf the Grey walking into the Shire. Things just got real up ins. I've represented that with what could reasonably be called a stupid big magic array. Each of the powers in the array is based on something Twilight has done on-screen, with a focus on reliability. With a mix of Perception range, Effortless and Variable Descriptor there aren't many times she won't be able to do something. The size of the array also means that she has a lot of freedom to stunt bigger, flashier effects whenever she needs to. Setting her apart from other magical practitioners is her extremely high Intelligence. So well read she literally lives in a library, between her +6 and Eidetic Memory Twilight has a good shot at remembering all kinds of useful facts, while being the undisputed expert in her specific areas of expertise. As she continues to study this whole 'friendship' thing, some ranks in Knowledge (Behavioral Sciences) wouldn't hurt either.

MagicHonestyLoyaltyGenerosityKindnessLaughter Yes, these are superhero builds inspired by the mane cast of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Yes, that was a pun. No, I won't apologize. To be clear, these are human builds which are homages to the ponies, not the actual ponies themselves. That would have meant the No Hands drawback and arguably some Permanent Shrinking and pbbbth no. The artwork was created by Myisha Haynes, AKA Empress Funk and can be viewed in its entirety here.
