  1. The sound of the hotel room's door unlocking and opening drew attention back inside the room, where Midnight was letting Wander in from the hallway. Just how the black clad vigilante had managed to get inside with the door locked and Talya watching over the balcony was something of a puzzle, but the nod he gave the immortal heroine as he quietly shut the door again was at least courteous even if his entrance was not. "Focus," he flatly intoned toward Mark, the inflectionless echo through his featureless mask making it difficult for those less familiar with the shadowy figure to tell if he was amused or reproachful.
  2. Kimber ducked her head in between her outrageous shoulder pads at Eve's gentle rebuke, he mannerisms unchanged despite her adopted appearance. "Ah heh... sorry. Still used to living in an abandoned cabin in the middle of the woods. Well, not living, I guess..." she corrected herself, quickly distracted from her chagrined embarrassment by the consideration of language as it applied to her undead existence. Fortunately, nothing about her spectral presence set off the metal detector, which was good, since she wouldn't have fared well in the event of a pat-down. She seemed terribly interested in everything around her, from the spartan building to the waiting family, looking about with an innocent curiosity that didn't do much to sell her illusion. "Ah, yes! Mr. McMillan!" she greeted with what sounded suspiciously like a Thunder Bay native's poor impression of a stuffy, vaguely British accent, rolling her Rs and emphasizing hard syllables. "Very pleased to meet you. We are from the Claremont Academy, naturally!"
  3. While Ellie broke out into laughter, making only a token effort to subdue the chuckles, Erik shot Mara an accusatory glare. "You were saving that, weren't you?" he sighed, shaking his head and throwing up his hands in exasperation as he turned away. "If you're going to be like that, drop and give me, say, twenty five." His sister's laughter died away as she regarded him with a raised eyebrow. "...seriously?" "Note serious face," Erik responded, turning back around to face them. "You too, hermanita, you've been slacking lately."
  4. "Oh! Oh! I can do that!" Kimber enthused, hopping reflexively and raising her hand into the air. Quickly looking over her shoulder to make sure nobody was watching, the phantom shook her wrists and let out a breath she technically hadn't been holding in the first place. Her entire form rippled with faint blue light and moments later a version of Kimber somewhere in her mid-thirties stod before them, in the same leather jacket and jeans but taller and with laugh lines creasing her face. "Hmm..." Considering for a moment, she rippled again, now wearing a respectable business suit with conspicuous shoulder pads, while her chestnut hair was abruptly tied back in a bun. Evidently not yet satisfied, she changed once more, her features taking on a vaguely familiar appearance. It took a moment to realize that she'd combined elements of Indira's human form and from the Canadian heroine they'd briefly met, Verglas. "There we go!" she grinned broadly, obviously pleased for the opportunity to show off a little. "Awesome, right?"

Trevor gave Erin her space while she got herself in the right frame of mind and moved to the foyer of the mansion in anticipation of Eve's arrival. He knew his girlfriend was no fan of being poked and prodded, be it physically or telepathically, but there was little avoiding it. Before long, he watched as an obviously expressive vehicle pulled into the roundabout and stepped outside to greet its white haired driver with a subdued wave. "Thanks for coming so quickly. Erin's waiting inside."

  7. Just a heads up that I'm going to be without ready internet access for the next couple of weeks, as it stands. I'll still be around when I can jump online here and there, but it'll definitely be a little slow for a while.
  8. While the terrified clerk did as her was instructed by the masked robbers, one of the store's late night patrons stepped calmly out from one of the aisles and cleared his throat. The simple sound was surprisingly loud and clear as it resounded in the broad chest of the mountainous figure, who looked over the tops of his sunglasses at the group and folded his heavily muscled arms. "I'm giving you one chance to walk on out of here," Keith LaMarr told the thieves frankly, his booming baritone echoing in the confines of the convenience store.
  9. "Glad to hear that's finally sinking in," Ellie sniffed haughtily. To be fair, the healer's powers could repair all but the most grievous injuries, but preferably it should never have to come to that. "y'know, thinking about it, in practice you're usually a lot better about keeping yourself from getting beat up that some people I could mention," she added, tapping a finger against her chin significantly. "Hey, do as I say, not as I do, alright?" her brother defended himself. "I'm not exactly a big planner, true. But you can sort of think of training as really, really general preparation, see?"
  10. The massive figure of fire and force field worked to keep the great monster's attention from the other heroes, moving with surprising speed despite the thundering echoes of its footsteps. The blazing sword came crashing down over and over, blocked here by unnatural energies and rendered ineffective there by rapid regeneration of terrible, unliving flesh. Even still, the simulacrum fought on, the siblings within its chest glowing brightly with metamagi power, eyes shining as excess power leaked away. The power of the Jack of Swords and the Jack of Coins had never been meant to be used in this way, never been designed to work together, and with each moment Jack and Jill risked burning out, their own abilities leaving them charred cinders. And they tired. The graceful movements slowed and became forced, the wreath of flames flickered and dimmed. But when Dragonfly's voice resounded through the battlefield and light struck down from the heaven like a righteous smiting, it washed over the massive fighter. The sister's resolved redoubled and the brother's abilities leeched some of the beam's power into the body and blade of their construct, flames bursting forth again, white hot. As Acherville himself was expelled, the titan straightened and spoke. "Mamma said knock you out." And the battle was rejoined.

Fair enough, Shaen! Once CoH goes free for realsies, we can see if popping everybody over to a different server - potentially Justice - makes sense. It sounds like VIP players will get free transfers pretty regularly, so it shouldn't be too big a hassle.
  12. "Is this about the *kzzzsh* thing?" Kimber asked Sharl, imitating the sound of static and shaking her hands back and forth expressively. "'Cause that only happens when I'm invisible, honest! You don't even have to worry about freezing to death if I forget I'm making it cold around me!" the ghost added in a chipper tone, skipping slightly with her steps even as she pretended to need to walk rather than float, sending chestnut hair bouncing across her shoulder blades. "Oh, uh, not that anyone else does, I mean. I'll concentrate really hard on it, promise!" She raised one hand while placing the other over her chest earnestly. "Probably a good idea to have, y'know, somebody solid in each car, though, I guess."
  13. Midnight made a brief, guttural sound that could presumably be taken to be agreement with Cannonade's exasperation with extradimensional invaders. Trevor had been hoping faintly that the frequent incursions and visits by and to parallel worlds which he and his friends had been swept up in over the past year would abate after thwarting the reality bomb plot of the Terminus, but it seemed they now had other concerns. Perhaps it was a natural side-effect of being near Mark's abilities, but the young man couldn't shake the feeling of being in a bubble with a rapidly thinning membrane. Ace made a good, if subtle, point about procuring entrance to the gala. The Hunters had carefully placed themselves in a position of considerable but not extravagant wealth by which they would not seem out of place at any high profile event but would rarely be the center of attention. It should be a simple enough matter to attend incognito, giving the heroes the advantage of surprise, especially with well known faces like Danger and Browning to draw scrutiny.
  14. "Oh, the whole town's been really helpful, isn't that right Anne?" Jack replied smoothly, smiling winningly even as he noted the odd choice of words from the armed woman. That was one ominous 'helped'. The swordsman's careful control of his body language made it subtle, but he readied himself just in case around the hair-trigger lawwoman. "I'm Andy, this is my sister and our friends over there. We're just passing through, but wouldn't you know, our van cut right out just outside of town." "Left us high and dry," Jill agreed, continuing right where her sibling left off. "We were looking for a mechanic, but some of the kind folks we ran into mentioned there'd been unusual stuff happening lately and suggested we swing by here and get the official heads-up from you." Like Jack, she was the very picture of friendly enthusiasm and good cheer. "We brought pie!"
  15. Erik frowned slightly in concentration as he opened his eyes fully and tried to parse exactly what Willow was trying to explain to him. The ancient guardian's manner of speech tended to sound florid and poetic while being starkly literal. "Well, hey, everybody has bad days," he responded finally, his lips curving back upward in a reassuring smile. "So maybe you have all of yours in a row. I can live with that." Letting out a short, chagrined breath he shifted his position to wrap one arm around the dryad's back as she faced him, the fencer admitted, "And you haven't really seen me at my worst yet, either. How about we keep each other on the rails?"
  16. Kimber nodded in confirmation. "Yep, you got it." The phantasm had demonstrated an ability to make herself look like a normal, living person when they group had reached the airport, but it became clear that this was only an illusion when she accidentally stuck one of her hands through the metal detector's wall while gesturing enthusiastically. Luckily, it had only been for a moment, and anyone who noticed had been convinced that their eyes were simply playing tricks on them. More inconvenient was the way sunlight revealed her translucent blue form, problematic in the well lit cabin of the plane. Instead, she'd slipped through the hull into the luggage compartment when the opportunity had presented itself and spent the trip amusing herself by imagining what was in each of the suitcases and parcels. As sunset arrived, she'd floated up into the cabin and taken her seat, hovering just over the cushion convincingly, obviously much happier to be with the rest of the students than on her own. "They're supposed to be for reform, too," she elaborated. "Maybe he's changed his ways and turned over a new leaf! Or he could have been accused of a crime his didn't commit!" Kimber seemed excited by either prospect. "He wouldn't been going to Claremont if he was really a bad apple, right?"
  17. Jill O'Cure Move Action: Auto-DC 25 Taunt vs. Ice Queen. Standard Action: Try to trap Ice Queen in force field. That's a DC 22 Reflex save.
  18. I'm going to be redesigning Jack a bit in September, bringing his effective combat caps down a bit, probably to PL13, and otherwise reworking his sheet here and there. That won't really free up too many points, given the way he's built, but it may help with this. Jack and Jill are both going to have pretty hard time trusting Dok ever again. The latter feels extremely violated by the mind control, while the former is going to feel terrible about not seeing it coming and redirect some of that anger toward Archeville himself.
  19. Ellie's expression tightened at Mara's inability to recall the time immediately following her escape with any certainty. She'd had some time to get used to the idea of the young inventor imprisonment and mistreatment, but it still felt like a punch to the stomach every time it was brought up, especially when she was reminded of the lasting damage those years had left behind. Her brother's reaction was more easily read; Erik knew just enough about Mara's history for the Espadas family's streak of over-protectiveness to kick in. Noting that his young sibling was not commenting on it, however, he followed her lead and instead addressed the latter statement with a smile that was slightly forced. "Ha, well, most people are only really overconfident once, if you catch my drift."
  20. That'll work, yeah.

--From what I've gathered, the Scarab was an associate of Acheville's long before... recent events,-- Trevor explained, his thoughts tinted with the impression that he was humouring Eve's insistence on self-deprecation as much as illuminating his reasoning. --Any mental suggestions or tampering would have to be designed specifically to evade her notice. As for Alex...-- It said something about the structure of the young man's mind that he was able to pause and choose the wording of his thoughts carefully. --She is very capable, yes. Her word holds considerable weight. You, I trust implicitly.-- There was nothing to be gained in qualifying the statement over their telepathic link. --We're at the Manor now, if you can make it.--
  22. Storm gave Eve a look of frank examination, eyes squinting slightly over his voluminous beard. After a few beats, he gave her a look that suggested he was watching her learn a hard lesson while simultaneously recalling the day he'd learned it himself. There was no argument from the grizzled man, no attempt to salve the petite acrobat's feelings of guilt, only a curt nod of agreement and respect. "" After giving Indira a beaming smile accompanied by a small bob in the air, Kimber floated over with a more restrained but encouraging smile for Eve. "You don't need to worry about a thing," she assured the white-haired girl gravely - or at least sincerely; 'grave' seemed to be, ironically, outside of her emotional range. "Dan acts pretty scary, but he's a big ol' softie. He'll make sure she's just fine!" A glare from the mystic turned a stifled chuckle into a cough even as it began to escape Verglas' throat.

--Erin was hired by ArcheTech shortly before Archeville's madness,-- Trevor began without preamble, his thoughts less stilted than his terse manner of speech but still habitually direct. --Wasn't there long, but given what happened to the Interceptors... we're concerned.-- There was a faint echo of the named emotion along with the word, the young man's meaning felt as much as conveyed with the facsimile of spoken language. --Didn't find any physical signs of tampering, but a mental examination seems prudent all the same.--
  24. Midnight remained silent throughout the posturing and counter-posturing back and forth between the larger than life personalities in the room. He wasn't surprised in the least that Typhoon had thought to handle this incursion with as little interference from others as possible, regardless of the risk to the world at large. In a certain light, it wasn't that different from the way he and hid friends had dealt with terrible threats themselves simply because they had been in the right place at the right time to make a difference. The young man was more interested in the four players the monarch referenced obliquely. The 'storm' was obviously Tempest himself; knowing that was how the armored man thought of himself was telling indeed. the 'dragon', it seemed, was Doctor Sin, the old arch foe of the original Raven, and those first two names were a grave indicator of the caliber of the quartet as a whole. He briefly wondered if the 'alien' might simply be someone from outside Socotra, but that seemed an odd point to make even for al-Darsah's sensibilities. No, it was more likely an extra-terrestrial. That didn't narrow things down much. The Meta-Grue? Star Khan? Troubling possibilities. Who the 'bull' might be, Midnight had no idea, and that concerned him most of all.

"If you feel up to it," Trevor agreed, nodding toward the stairs and back up to the main level of the Manor. "Will see if Eve's free." The young man felt more than a little odd as he marshaled his thoughts. While something in his metahuman physiology made him singularly difficult for telepaths to read, that same mental density, for lack of a better term, had made the well worn path his petite friend used to access his mind a smooth, robust groove. Or so they speculated. The two-way nature of their link may well have been more a result of the sibling like closeness that had developed during the course of their many trials. --Eve. A moment?--
