ic [ArchEvil] Omnia Mutantur, Nihil Interit [IC]
Gizmo replied to Dr Archeville's topic in North Bay
"Huh." Jack of all Blades sauntered about the first floor of the residence, not making any great effort to search for the home's owners. After all, there were members of the team far better suited for the task; one didn't use a finely balanced weapon to sift through animal droppings when following a trail. "So this is where they moved to. Cozy. Y'know, I once told Faretti we'd never come after his kid? He's gonna be tiiiiicked. Well," the fencer chuckled largely to himself, "more than usual. Angry guy. Doesn't even like--" "Waffles," his sister supplied in an annoyed tone, taking a seat on the arm of the living room couch and examining her nails idly. "You've mentioned. Bored," Jill O'Cure sighed, swinging her feet back and forth. "They obviously knew we were coming."- 63 replies

Hey guys, just a heads up, the double XP weekend has been postponed until August 11 - 14. The Freedom Allies Super Group now consists of Jacque of all Blades, Thrude, Maltese Tiger, Blue Torque and Dark'Star. Just let one of us know when you're on if you're looking to sign up as well!

"Hey, I've got your attention now, right?" Erik grinned, his eyebrows lifting up toward his dusty brown hair. He had a pretty good idea where Willow's mind was wandering to, but unless they put that on the back burner for the time being they were going to loose the rest of the afternoon and evening, at least. "Okay, right idea, but... hmm." He straightened his posture for a moment, running his hand over the light stubble across his jaw thoughtfully. "Actually, a lot of people relate what we're going here to trees. Strong, rooted base, but flexible in the wind, see? Does that help at all?"

Erik reflexively caught the pouch with one hand, pausing for a moment to consider it's slight weight in his hand. As far as he knew, Willow could create her armor out of any plant matter that happened to be available, but the seeds in the small pouch were clearly her preferred source and down in the metal corridors of the Underground giving them up was a significant show of trust. "Okay then," he agreed after a long pause, closing his fingers over the pouch tightly before setting it aside and peeling off his shirt. Front a few steps away most of the fine scars that decorated his sienna torso were practically invisible, though a few circular remains of bullet wounds and angry slash marks were clear enough for the dryad to make out. Planting his feet in a steady stance, he indicated for Willow to imitate him with a nod. "First, bring each fist down here, to waist height."

Jack vaulted over the waist high wall that remained as the glass between the control room and the Wreck Room retracted, forgoing the ladder built into the wall of the larger room and dropping down to the floor. Midway through the graceful fall he grunted abruptly, landing in a heavy three point crouch instead of the nimble running stance he'd intended. By the time he stood up, black coat slowly sliding back down his frame, his expression had been schooled into neutrality tinged only with a mild note of annoyance. Apparently already bored with the whole affair, the fencer leaned against the wall and crossed his arms over his chest. "Why are we even discussing this?" "Kind of a no-brainer," his sister agreed in a distracted drawl, her attention focused on the sickly green light playing about her hand as she turned it over and examined it from different sides. Dark spots of flotsam seemed to sift slowly through the virulent glow, moving about in response as she spread her fingers then clenched them into a fist with a broadening grin.

"Then why do I keep feeling like I'm the one being taught?" Erik mused wryly as he allowed himself to be pulled inside the combat training room without resistance. The athletic young man tended to make decisions about people quite quickly, without many shades of grey between family and foe, but even by those standards he and the sender guardian had fallen into a complementary synchronicity with startling speed. Perhaps it was simply a case of intense personalities recognizing and easing a shared loneliness in each other, perhaps no one knew the futility of hesitation better than an immortal and a professional risk-taker. Regardless, it was a good feeling and if the training hadn't been Erik's idea in the first place, he might have been tempted to take advantage of their privacy for less professional use. Striding to the center of the Wreck Room, he left the facility's more advanced systems alone, instead running through a series of quick stretches. "Let's start nice and simple with some basic blocks, okay?"

ic Graduation Day: What You Leave Behind (IC)
Gizmo replied to Avenger Assembled's topic in Grenville and Ashton
Trevor glanced subtly in the direction Erin had indicated, keeping his head slightly bowed and his voice low in a manner which would seem entirely appropriate for the somber event. It wasn't hard to deduce what she was suggesting, and even a cursory observation seemed to bear the hypothesis out. Closing his eyes for a moment and letting out a quiet sigh, the black clad youth rolled his shoulders. "At least it's not 'a robot or evil clone'," he noted philosophically, remaining calmly composed. Given what they knew of Rick and his life this really wasn't any great surprise. He was reminded briefly of the young woman they'd met leading the team of heroes in Psilent's possible timeline, but decided not to share the association aloud. "Don't think they'll cause trouble unless provoked. Watch the woman, though; wearing battlesuit."- 27 replies

Gizmo replied to Avenger Assembled's topic in Grenville and Ashton
Trevor conveyed his grandfather's respects to Martha Lucas before getting into the vehicle with everyone else. He wasn't used to being a passenger, but he fully appreciated how much it sometimes helped to do something as straightforward as driving when one's mind was weighed down. Mark was handling the entire affair with a collected calm which, after a moment's reflection, his laconic friend did not really find surprising. The probability manipulator had grown considerably in the time Trevor had known him, his burdens sitting more steadily on his shoulders.- 27 replies

Apparently Freedom Allies was available! When you're online, let me know so we can start inviting people.

My argument here would be that Parkhurst already gives the magically inclined PCs a place to interact with each other; having the Midnighter's be 'everybody who's magic' would be redundant. The original team were all very much horror types specifically in the horror genre: vampire, sorceress, zombie, (half) demon and I'd argue Atlas as a Frankenstein's monster stand-in, in the 'what has science wrought?!' sense. That doesn't necessarily have to be the case with the new version, but it does demonstrate a more focused theme that made them click.
-
Considering the work Ecal's already put into this, I think it's best to consider this thread largely a means of seeing who's interested, rather than a sign-up sheet. Obviously there's no point is simply having every magically inclined hero on the site involved, although I could certainly see them being on good terms as part of the same larger community.

The acrobatic fencer's self-beratement ceased at Willow's touch, blinking in mild surprise at the immortal's stern tone. One of his arms encircled her waist and slid slowly down the small of her back as the aggressive kiss stoked and instinctual competitiveness and a similar intensity. When the finally broke away, his confident smile had been restored in full. "You make a compelling argument," he admitted, brushing at her long white hair with the fingers of his free hand. "Erik."

ic Graduation Day: What You Leave Behind (IC)
Gizmo replied to Avenger Assembled's topic in Grenville and Ashton
The black armband overtop the already somber uniform of Midnight didn't have quite the striking affect it did on the brighter garb of his teammates, but Trevor had opted for a full length coat in the style of his grandfather despite the summer heat. Travis himself hadn't been up to venturing out in the sweltering heat wave, especially after exerting himself during the events surrounding the first attempt at the younger Hunter's graduation ceremony. Trying not to dwell too much on the elderly man's somewhat fragile health, Trevor murmured an affirmative to Erin and stepped up beside her on the steps, inclining his head slightly as Eve arrived with company in tow.- 27 replies

Ghost Girl's name has come up.

The swordsman known as Jack of all Blades had for once not joined in on the training exercise himself, observing from the raised control room and adjusting the Wreck Room's programmed simulation on the fly as the crowded space below was consumed with merry melee. As the frightening figure slid through the solid walls, he stood abruptly from his seat, shutting down the various hazards and obstacles protruding from the walls, ceiling and floor as he called down. "Everybody, back off and guard up!" he barked, his usual carefree demeanor dropping in favour of the leadership role he'd found himself occupying more and more of late. "If I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing, that's an Atlantean monster deal, serious bad news." In the Wreck Room itself, Jill O'Cure had been using her force fields to throw up shielding walls and sudden barriers in the paths of her quicker teammates, but she turned around as well as one by one the Interceptors looked toward the door. "A Deep One," she confirmed, sliding back a step in surprise and wracking her memory for the passing references she recalled from the Claremont library. "Part Atlantean, part Serpent People. Uh, they, what was it...? They have a rep for mind control!" the young woman blurted as she remembered finally. "If that's really the Dok..." "Vince, how the hell did that get in here?" Jack shouted at the monitor before him, stepping to the emergency hatch that would let him into the main body of the Wreck Room himself. "I thought we'd fixed the security for that!"

Totally should have gotten in here sooner! Jack and Jill should naturally be in the Interceptors thread, and Ghost Girl in the Young Freedom 2.0 thread. If there's a spot in there for Wail, maybe the miscillaneous thread, that'd be great. Sounds like we're giving the recent graduates a bit of a breather this time around?

Should have asked right up front, but is there anything going on that would trip Jack's super senses?

"I should probably mention," Jack noted conversationally as he stepped through the gaping hole after Changeling, "that I'm pretty sure I won't be able to do that to get us back out." "Oh, well, that's fantastic, isn't it?" his sister grumbled, right behind him despite the warning, looking about the snowy landscape as she crossed over to the other side of the portal. Her older sibling shrugged. "Eh, Bones or Grim'll think of something, probably." Planning that far in advance clearly wasn't high on the swashbuckler's list of priorities with a teammate missing.

Jack stopped in his tracks as the door to the Wreck Room slid open before them, blinking in confusion. "What? No, I must have..." His brow furrowed as he thought back, wracking his memory until realization slowly dawned over him. "Aw, Dios," he groaned, planting both hands over his face with an audible smack. "I'm that guy. I'm the guy who... argh, I might as well have kept the damned mask on." As he pulled his hands down across his face slowly, it was clear he was mortified and more than a little angry with himself. "I swear, I'm only this big a jerk because I'm really, really stupid."

"Did somebody say 'tear' and 'force'?" Jack asked, making a show of pushing up the sleeves of his greatcoat as he stepped toward the spot where the lingering fae magics were strongest. To the metamagi's synesthesiatic senses it was a smell more than anything, a cold smoke that prickled the skin on the back of his neck as it wafted through deep shades of blue and black. Reaching out, he gathered what little was left over, a visible blade of snowflakes suspended in thick mist solidifying in his hand. Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes tightly, feeling for the tiny pinprick in the world that the unseelie energies were trickling through. His arm shot forward and the tip of his sword disappeared from view before he pulled downward, slicing a long opening in the curtain between the worlds.

If it's alright, I'll have Jack reopen the portal via stabbing reality, if there's enough magic left over there for him to work with.

While alien woman Blackfire had called Khania managed to stay aloft, the sudden freezing rain pinned her arms to her sides even a Heka managed to bring up a hasty shield of defensive magics that deflected the abrupt blizzard away from him. On the ground, only Diehard's trained reflexes allowed him to avoid the worst of Fulcrum's freeze breath. To either side of him, Blackfire and the Daka Man were imprisoned in sturdy icebergs that rooted them to the ground and resisted even their superstrong attempts to break free. The android paused his string of expletives long enough to shout, "Argh, that's gotta be the ones from the restaurant, and they brought friends! Stop the one with the freaking portal gloves!" With a distainful sniff, Heka gathered and hurled a bolt of mystical force in Dragonfly's direction, the shot going wide as the armored heroine strafed to one side. "Well, the new look isn't just for show, it seems," the cultured Egyptian noted dryly, glancing between his allies' various states of entanglement with some concern.
