"I went to the future!" Erik intoned dramatically, spreading his fingers before him. "Near future, anyway. Mostly like now but with bigger buildings and more guys with robot arms. Which is pretty much how I figured it would be." He rubbed his jawline roughly with one hand, a touch of concern in his eyes as he glanced toward Eli ruining the attempt at distracting levity. "Got caught in the middle of a gang fight, I think, but like I said, it was in and out, really quick. One of them said something, but... well, nevermind." He shook his head dismissively. "Sounds like I barely had a blip, comparatively."
-
"None taken," Jack snorted briefly, the ghost of a smirk playing across his face despite the foul mood threatening to sour his disposition. "I'm what you might call focused. What can I say? I set a goal for myself, I just gotta see it through." There was a faint note of innuendo in his voice, the mere presence of which seemed to bolster his spirits slightly as his carefully maintained mask of carefree humour fell back into place. His other option after the battle on his front lawn wouldn't do him any good, after all. Sauntering briskly over to Equinox, he gave her a broad grin of sparkling teeth amidst rakish stubble, as he placed his arm around her waist in a suitable gentlemanly fashion. "Why, Noxie, all you had to do was ask."

"I get to make a toast, right?" Erik chimed in, blinking a few times after his eyes had glazed slightly at the step by step description of the ceremony itself. He appreciated the spectacle of it all, but it seemed like so much work for what was supposed to be a celebration of sorts. The prospect of getting to speak in front of a captive audience regained his attention, however. Ellie opened her mouth to make some sardonic remark about her brother but it refused to gel in time as she attempted to hide being a little flustered at Lynn's frank talk about her plans for the moments immediately following the wedding.

Makes sense! I think the point still stands; granted, a big event thread and a big social thread will probably each take a while, but that's imminent enough that I think we should be planning for it now rather than scrambling to compensate in a couple of months. I know Shaen wanted to kick in some unused Veteran Reward Equipment to the total, but whatever Grim and Colt are contributing is going to have to come from somewhere else before too long. I like the idea of the bifrost bridge teleporters more than a little, but on the whole I'd like to see us trimming back more than adding. On the other hand, teleporters would (somewhat ironically) cost a heck of a lot less EP than the MAVERIC, right?
-
One thing I wanted to double check and confirm was that both Grim and Colt are planning to retire shortly, right? Do we have a specific time frame for that? Just to save grief later, maybe we should look at budgeting this whole shebang out without their contributions right from the get-go, or at least make sure that the slack can be picked up by new members without a whole new set of calculations.

"Well, I don't know, young lady," Jack replied with mock sternness even as he tilted his neck to accommodate the slender woman's efforts, resting his unshaven chin atop her head. "Having a me is a big responsibility." The acrobat nimbly brought his legs back up on top of the bed, taking care not to disturb the cuddling dryad as he settled back down. "Full disclosure, most people expect the having dinner, getting to know each other stage to come before the fun stuff," he admitted with a crooked grin, sliding their entwined fingers slowly up and down Willow's stomach and enjoying the warmth of a body pressed against his own, "but I think we may be onto something here. Tell me something about yourself."

ic Graduation Day: Worn-Out Places (IC)
Gizmo replied to Avenger Assembled's topic in The Realms Beyond
"Fehn," Travis grunted dismissively, giving Rick a withering glare. "At least when your father wouldn't stop talking, it was never excuses." Lifting his cane with one hand, the aging detective tilted it toward the reality manipulator. "Even without the genie, Jimmy Lucas would have fought this with his bare hands. What a disappointment." At no point did he raise his voice, but each syllable rang out like a cutting blow. Practically quivering from the effort to remain composed, the young Hunter addressed Mark's father with a carefully clipped tone. "Distaste for you is... incommunicable. You've hurt people I care about." Something in the young man's contained body language promised that that thought would be resumed at a later time. "But..." he continued, the word tasting toxic in his mouth, "options are limited. Have to clean up your mess." Folding his arms, Midnight narrowed his eyes. "Now who is this 'friend'?"- 22 replies

"Hey, just doing your job, amitire?" Jack grinned easily to the less accommodating troll. If the others had adopted a polite, courtly manner, the swashbuckler took the role of the hired muscle commiserating with his fellow foot soldiers. "They don't put just anybody on guard duty, I'll bet. I like the halberds, by the way. Those standard issue? I'm more of a sword guy, like my mobility, but if you've already got the reach and leverage, might as well use it, definitely..." He chattered away amiably, his posture looking for all the world like he was taking a leisurely stroll. "Ooh, hey, crystal rapier, that's more my speed," he whispered to the hulking guards as they were introduced to the majordomo. "Heh, try affording that on an enlisted man's salary, huh?"

"You can tell how ticked off I am about this because I'm not making a joke about going back to your place," Jack muttered practically to himself as he absently kicked at the sizzling remains of one of the hellhounds that had tried to reach the house. "Blond guy showed up out of nowhere and made some half-baked speech about phenomenal, cosmic power so I stabbed him until called his pets to keep me busy while he ran away," the metamagi explained in brief, indicating the spot Keter had materialized upon and the sizable heaps on acid dripping demonic beasts. "Maybe a dozen, little more? Took them out before they had a chance to hurt anyone, though." For all he'd protected the street's occupants, he didn't sound particularly pleased.

ic Graduation Day: Worn-Out Places (IC)

Trevor helped Travis slowly to his feet, giving Erin enough space to put a hole in the floor before stepping over to placed a gloved hand on her shoulder, fingers tightening to reassure her of his presence as much as to confirm that she was there and, for the moment, safe. It was difficult to tell with the ruby lenses of his mask concealing his expression, but the bunching of the fabric near his nose suggested that he had his eyes squeezed tightly shut, while faint wisps of midnight mist seeped from the ends of his jacket's sleeves and the cuffs on his pants. The elder Hunter for his part took stock of the room with a grimace honed by years of use, putting the weight of both hands on his cane. "Hrmph. Thank God Jimmy never lived to see this," he noted coolly in the grating voice that had put the fear of something worse than death into criminals for decades.- 22 replies

Jack rubbed the bridge of his nose and muttered something impolite under his breath but continued to the compact two storey home's front door. "Well, now I feel all popular," he drawled more loudly, letting the crackling rapier in his hand dissipate into the air even as his sword hand clenched and unclenched involuntarily, betraying his agitation. As he reached the porch, the door unlocked and opened from within, revealing a fit older woman in a wheelchair. "You're alright?" Jack asked quietly. "Fine," Gina confirmed. "Better once you find that weasel and kick his teeth in." "Gotta say, I like that plan," the fencer confirmed, turning back to Equinox. "If you found me, you can find him, yeah?"
-
Putting one arm on the bed to support them, Jack leaned back slightly and slid his other hand across coppery skin to the small of Willow's back as he met the kiss with a slow, savoring manner that drew the contact out as the dryad felt a smile pulling at the corners of his mouth. "Mmh... stick around and that can probably be arranged," he murmured when he was finally free to speak again, craning his neck to brush his lips across the graceful point at the top of one of her ears, strands of long white hair tickling his face. The immortal's frank manner, so without pretense, would have made her difficult to resist even if he'd been trying.

Jack's adrenaline was pumping enough from the fight and the gamut of emotions that came with it literally reaching his front door that he barely reacted to the woman's sudden arrival, instead kicking off from the pile of hellhound remains and over the playing card with an incongruous, "Hey, Noxie." Rushing past the witch to the cowed beasts, the fencer kept enough presence of mind to make his work quick- so quick, in fact, that it was almost impossible to follow with traditional senses. With a flash of royal blue and a crackle electrical power, the last of the demonic canines went down. Cracking his neck and rolling his shoulder, Jack let out a long breath as he forced himself to calm down. Heading back toward his family's house, he looked to the new arrival. "I'm assuming you've got an explanation for this?" The swashbuckler's melodic voice was tight and lower than usual, but he kept his tone as breezy as possible.
-
Alright, so, Jack can charge the remaining hellhouds and power attack for a +17 attack bonus total, which, with his Swordsmanship Supremacy, means he literally cannot miss, and since they can't make the Toughness saves... yeah. He's just gonna end this things now.

Travis Hunter regarded the sudden appearance of Martha Lucas and the abruptly ominous weather with a single, flat expression. "Typical." Next to him, his grandson reacted with practiced precision, the sentimentality of the previous moment switching over the tactical coolness. "Sage, link us up. Templar, get the audience and underclassmen inside, behind force fields, whatever works." Releasing Erin's hand, he stepped quickly but calmly to the back of the classic vehicle he and his grandfather had arrived in ad opened the truck. Inside, neatly folded, were the garb and equipment of the masked vigilante, Midnight. "Wander, get ready and stay close. Whatever's coming, the Lucases are key. Edge, we need answers." With that, the featureless black fabric and red lenses was pulled down over his face and the beaten black fedora set atop his head. Clicking his utility belt into place around his waist, Midnight withdrew a handheld tablet computer and began simultaneously taking readings and streaming whatever news and satellite feeds he could pick up.

Don't know if Contribution PP work that way or not.

So, wait, who's up, then?

"Hello, Professor," Jill greeted Supercape with a sigh that was not to subtly exaggerated, as even the sardonic young woman wasn't able remain completely unaffected by the older gentleman's infectious good spirits. "You're making up words again, sir." Turning to CT, she raised a hand while a shimmering blue replica of the pointed finger hovered near the junior's face. "Hey buddy, I didn't write all those pre-med entrance exams to be called Nurse Jill." Letting the construct fade with a thoughtful expression, she looked back to the most recent arrival. "Actually, there's a thought. Supercape gave me some pointers on force fields when I first got my powers. CT here has a similar shtick, Professor."

Jack gave the beautiful woman in his bed an appreciative grin as he lifted up her leg along with the sheets covering them and sat down on the side of the bed before setting the slender limbs back down across his lap. "Well, you said to tell you about myself through food," the swordsman recalled, reaching over to rub Willow's feet with strong, dexterous fingers. "So, quesadillas are crunchy on the outside with a softer inside, spicy enough to be an acquired taste, but that's why the people who like it like it. You serve it while it's still steaming, and with that much melted cheese it's a little undignified, but it's got everything a body needs."

Travis let out a soft breath at Mark's exuberant display, having frankly thought his days of sitting through Lucas style antics long over, though there was a healthy dose of nostalgia mixed in with the long-suffering silence. "Mr. Hughes. Travis Hunter." The aging gentleman rested both hands on his cane and looked up at the imposing if somewhat awkward youth. "Good lord, what is Summers slipping in your food?" "Corbin's from Missouri," Trevor noted with the faintest ghost of a smile, to which Travis grunted softly as though it explained much. "Reasonably sure the headmaster hasn't tapered with the cafeteria." The elder Hunter snorted flatly. "That boy never did focus enough on chemistry," he bemoaned, shaking his head slightly.

Wail paused for a moment to take a deep breath and let it out, an unintentionally intimidating gesture from the big man with the sonic shout. "Fair enough. Shouldn't have put you on the spot for it," he admitted. The passing reference to her mother suddenly underlined Bloodfang's relative youth to him, and though admittedly he had no frame of reference for where the younger raptor was in her lifecycle, he suddenly drew more than a few parallels between the impetuous dinosaur's behaviour and that of his teenage students, and his new tone reflected that. "That kind of talk is a... hot button for me, but no way you and your momma could've known that. Hrn..." Frowning as he heaved a chunk of rubble out of the way, LaMarr considered. "Funny, though, your people going so long without running into anybody else."
-
Jill offered the telekinetic cook a nonchalant shrug. "I said he leaves an impression. It wasn't just him, but when you personally take out Wildcard, Downtime and Orion after taking a sniper round, you're pretty much allowed to round up." The teenager kept her tone light and almost disinterested but it was pretty clear that she was taking the opportunity to brag a little bit about her brother. Leaning her hip subtly toward Dragonfly as the shorter girl wrapped an arm around her waist, she shook her head at CT, amused by the underclassman's flustered backpeddling. "Breath, Tiny, you'll hurt yourself. Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm really not worried about you stealing my lady friend." As another familiar member of the Lab staff appeared and greeted the group, she closed her eyes tightly shut for a moment and mumbled to herself, "Oh, Dios, he's talking about cricket again..."

Trevor tousled Eve's white hair slightly as he removed one hand from her shoulder and took Erin's in the other, giving his girlfriend's fingers a light squeeze. The young man was struck for a moment by how surrounded he was by friends and family, and more, that this did not generate any feelings of unfamiliarity or unease. In the past year, he realized, he had not just grown, but built a life, a place to belong. It was a good feeling. "Erin, Mr. Lucas," Travis greeted briskly. "I believe congratulations are in order."

Allowing himself to be pulled downward, Jack evidently agreed that the bed was entirely too far away for their immediate purposes. Against the window facing the backyard, the light tapping of rain slowed and then finally stopped. Some time later, as the dappled sunlight of the next morning slipped through the same window, the door creaked slightly as Jack reappeared, having recovered a pair of boxers at some point and carrying a folding bed tray he'd found in one of the kitchen cupboards. Atop the tray was a plateful of freshly steaming quesadillas along with a glass of orange juice, one filled with water and a mug of black coffee. "Now, I know you wanted to try out dinner, florecita," he began with a lopsided grin, "but I thought we might put a pin in that and go with breakfast for now."
