  1. Notice Check vs. DC 25. (1d20+10=20) Not so much!
  2. Jack glanced over to confirm that Grim had taken care of Nick's brief mental manipulation as the pair of heroes reentered. Despite his irreverent attitude, the swashbuckler left the necromancer's terrified retreat uncommented upon; as far as he was concerned, it had never happened. Confident that his shapeshifting teammate had their chalk white makeup wearing friend's employment dilemma well in hand, he turned back to Gabriel. The white robed man's abrupt shift from enraged to melancholic concerned him more than a little, but admittedly he didn't know Gabriel well enough to judge whether he was acting out of sorts. "So, you really get your powers from an archangel?"
  3. Willow descended to the sound of rhythmic chopping on a cutting board, reentering the kitchen area to see Jack working a sizable knife back and forth with easy precision, cutting some white meat into smaller pieces. The first thing the dryad noticed, however, was that the fencer had removed his mask and what had turned out to be a convincing wig, setting the aside and revealing a deeply tanned complexion set in angular features and topped with short cropped hair in a dusty brown hue. He looked up as his guest reappeared, offering her a broad grin. "Good, you found it. Grab a seat," he offered, indicating one of several stools on the opposite side of the island countertop he was working at.
  4. Giving the dryad a pleasantly bemused look, Jack offered her the crook of his arm and stepped out into the continuing light rain. It probably wasn't entirely wise to bring a woman he'd only just met into the brownstone, but the Underground was carefully hidden away and Vince security systems would be able to keep a better eye on her there anyway. More importantly, he had a good feeling about Willow, and wasn't about to leave a lady at the mercy of the elements. "Communicate with...? Heh, alright I think I can do that," he agreed as he took a moment to parse her challenge and open the back door. The entrance from the patio led into the back of the common area, couches and seats arranged in a wide semicircle with an open kitchen on the opposite side and a staircase upward to their right. Leaving his wet boots by the door, the swordsman led the way around the foot of the staircase to the front door and the closet there, hanging up his dripping greatcoat to expose his sleeveless black bodysuit. "There's a bathroom just up there," he told Willow, pointing to a door visible up the steps. "There should be a bathrobe you can borrow. I don't know if you can actually catch a cold," he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck wryly as he considered the immortal's physiology in some detail, "but I'm guessing something dry would feel good regardless."
  5. With a vague murmur of approval, Ellie let her eyes close as she wrapped her arms around Mara, turning her head for a moment to avoid yawning directly in her girlfriend's ear before settling in. Even knowing that they had an early morning coming, the usual list of things that had to be accomplished the next day that typically ran ceaselessly through the harried youth's mind when she tried to sleep left her be for once. "Know it's not as big as your bed," she mumbled absently, "but this s'nice." Before long her breathing grew soft and rhythmic.
  6. Looking a little pleased with herself on the whole, Ellie turned back to the alarm clock with ill concealed smirk and resumed winding it. "I'll set it for 6:30 and make sure you get up, then," she decided aloud, a hint of teasing in her voice. Setting the clock back down on the dresser, she quickly finished getting ready for bed and slipped under the blankets. "Hurry up and turn off the light and get over here before I freeze," the young woman commanded, stifling a yawn. She'd put more energy than she'd realized into preparing for the evening and now that everything had gone well she felt a comfortable satisfaction settle over her.
  7. "Party foul!" Jack cried out as Nick succumbed to some private illusion and the last leanansidhe gathered her glamours about her for a mental assault upon Gabriel. "Have a time out." The swashbuckler sprung from his acrobatic footwork into an overhead punch with all the subtlety of a freight train, driving his sunny pink saber directly into the fae woman's face, the borrowed magics sliding through easily until the tip protruded from the back of her head and the fencer's fist connected with much for material force. The stunned creature staggered back, the sword slipping back out without leaving so much as a mark apart from her gaping expression. She attempted to say something, but instead her eyes rolled upward and she collapsed atop her fallen sisters. "Still with us, padre?" he asked with nonchalant caution.
  8. "Fair enough," Jack agreed with another shallow bow, extending his arm in the direction of the brownstone building as he straightened. "You can stay out here if you like, florecita, but I'm going to have to step inside to use the kitchen." He glanced up at the still drizzling sky and shrugged affably. "It'd be drier, anyway. What are you in the mood for?" The swashbuckler took a half step away from the oak to face Willow directly, raising his eyebrows above his mask and leaning forward with a playful, challenging look.

  11. Wail had remained standing imposingly in the middle of the aisle while Cannonade attempted to speak with the telepathic dinosaurs and the other metahumans arrived on the scene. The aging hero certainly enjoyed the response time the current generation brought to the table, and while the raptors were by no means the strangest thing he's seen, he was content to let the first young person on the scene take the lead initially. As the lizards grew more and more agitated, however, the massive educator cleared his throat loudly to lay down the law. "Sister, I'm getting that you didn't mean to come here," he addressed Runs-With-Claws in a booming bass that echoed off of the church walls and made him sound as big as he appeared, "and we'll see about getting you back where you ought to be, but you are going to have to get control of your friends, cut out the 'monkey' talk and step outside or you are not going to like how this goes down. Am I making myself clear?"
  12. Making a clicking sound with her tongue, Ellie swatted as Mara's hands so that she could take a step back and remove the blouse herself. "Honestly. And I'm the bad influence here," she admonished with a small smile as she deftly folded the top and set it down atop a convenient stack of textbooks. Stepping around similar piles to the dresser, she picked up an old, tarnished wind-up alarm clock and fiddled with the back. "What time did you want to get up?" she asked, looking back at Mara over her shoulder.
  13. "And now we're yelling!" Jack shouted along with Gabriel's tirade and the leanansidhe's retort. "Grr! Argh!" Apparently undistracted by his own antics, he moved with fluid grace to come on the opposite side of Grimalkin's target, knocking the wicked fae out with the second half of an attack the teammates had practiced rigorously. The same flash of his blade took him to another of their opponents, who suddenly found themselves outnumbered by the heroes two to one and facing an undaunted assault.
  14. Whee! Against Leanansidhe 5: Energy Blade, Power Attack 5. (1d20+15=23) Same saves as before.

  16. Surprised at the simplicity of the white haired woman's choice, Jack's expression softened slightly before consciously brightening again. "Well, that's an easy one, Miss Willow!" he responded cheerfully, foregoing a dry joke about her asking him out as he noted the blush that hadn't yet drained entirely from her coppery cheeks. "And and excellent choice, as well. So, the next question is: would you rather eat in," the swordsman began, pointing one finger at the brownstone apartment building, "or go out somewhere? I do know an Italian place that's very accommodating of the, ah... 'guardian' lifestyle." Jack indicated his royal blue bandanna mask with the same finger.
  17. "Ooh, corazoncito, you know I love it when break out the science," Ellie responded with a widening grin, pausing to plant a soft, lingering kiss on Mara's lips before leaving the kitchen and leading the way back upstairs. Erik had left a sleeping bag, still rolled up in its tight covering, outside the door to his sister's bedroom, but the younger sibling ignored it as she pulled her girlfriend inside and closed the door quietly behind them. Kissing Mara again, she ran her fingers over the buttons of the borrowed vest. "Heh, you actually look really good in this, even if it's a little weird seeing you in my stuff," she complimented, tilting her head a little to one side.

Trevor responded to that with a soft snort as he pulled her into another slow, searching kiss before stooping slightly and using the moderately increased strength his supersaturated muscle tissue afforded him to picked Erin up off of the ground, making sure she could steady herself with the hands on his back as he carried her over to the bed. Setting her down, the young man undid just enough of the top buttons of his shirt to pull it off over his head and toss it to the floor. "Just have to soldier on," he deadpanned.
  19. Keith LaMarr usually preferred to go for evening walks, once his classes were done for the day, tests had been marked and lesson plans had been drawn up, but with it being the weekend and the weather taking a pleasant turn, that morning saw the broad-shouldered teacher walking the streets of Lincoln with his hands in his pockets and sunglasses on his face. His leisurely pace turned into a sidewalk shaking sprint as the sound of screaming reached his ears, leading him to the foot of the Rock. LaMarr was not a man given to public worship for more than one reason, but the church was a broad pillar of his community and it was only concern for those fleeing that slowed his entrance into the building. Inside he took in the lizards with a calm glance, recognizing the young hero Cannonade and an old friend standing at the front of the church. "Morning, Thad," he greeted in a rumbling bass that resonated within his cavernous chest as he strode forward.
  20. "It's okay, it is a little annoying too," Ellie assured her ruefully, getting up to put the severely depleted box of cookies back in the cupboard. "But all in all it's good that she cares enough to be a little annoying, yknow?" At the question of sleepwear, she smirked a little. "You're already wearing my clothes; I think I can lend you something," she pointed out drolly before sauntering over to take her girlfriend's hand before continuing, "Or not. May have to resort to snuggling to stay warm. House gets a little drafty at night."
  21. "Humour me, dear," Gina sighed, casting her eyes upward with exaggerated weariness. Up above, there was the sound of a window sliding open, followed shortly by light footfalls on the roof and then silence as the swashbuckling Jack of all Blades made his way off into the night. The three women remained in the kitchen for a short time chatting before eventually Ellie's mother stifled a yawn and wheeled herself over to the counter to deposit her mug in the sink. "Well, I'm turning in. Mara, once again, it was lovely to finally meet you. Make sure to get some sleep, hmm?" She looked significantly at both their guest and her daughter before leaving the room.

Pausing for a moment to meet Erin's brown eyes with his own mutated vision, glossy black and crimson orbs set in dusty jet toned features, Trevor brushed her auburn hair back with one hand while he kept the other wrapped around her waist. "Glad. You're very easy to think about," he explained with a small smile before leaning down to plant a line of brief kisses down the length of her neck. Lifting his head again, he murmured, "Seemed like a good opportunity to show you how much you mean to me."
  23. "Heh, I love that about immortal types," Jack mused, softly nudging Willow's shoulder with his own. "You don't have to worry about yourselves anymore so you're always fretting over other people kicking it. I actually died once, and I don't plan on making a habit of it." The wry tone of the fencer's assurances made it difficult to tell whether or not he was joking about that, but he certainly didn't seem overly concerned about his own mortality. If anything, his expression had clouded more at the dryad's wistful assessment of her own history. "Hmm, still, if the theme of the evening is avoiding regrets, we can't have you feeling like you haven't really lived, can we? Tell you what, name one thing you've been wanting to do."
  24. "Old enough, I promise," Jack replied with another laugh, though his time he kept his voice well above his lower, throatier register. There had been a time when the young man would have taken the coppery toned woman's blush as a signal to step in closer, but now he made sure to give her as much space as he could without drawing back. "As for how long, ah..." The swordsman rubbed one hand across his jawline absently as he did the mental arithmetic. "Move than five years now, actually. I know, doesn't sound like much to somebody who's partied with the Ancient Greeks, but..."

Trevor blinked once as he smoothly adjusted his course. He been concerned that the evening's mood had been irrecoverable, but he was glad that Erin was evidently pleased with the way the brief conversation with his grandfather had gone. With a small grin, he allowed her to pull his waist closer as a faint sound accompanied a spreading, onyx colour that quickly enveloped his skin. "Good plan," he agreed, leaning down to kiss her again as they continued down the hallway, heavier this time and deep enough that he had to use his free hand to feel for the wall to avoid running into it.
