Gina made a flat, dismissive sound from the back of her throat. "You're much too bright to be having this much trouble with the concept of 'welcome to the family'," she told Mara sternly. "Intruding really requires a sense of personal boundaries," Erik shouted down the stairs as he made his way to the second floor, "which we're pretty sketchy on here. Let's see..." Muttering to himself more quietly, he rummaged about in the closet next to the bathroom. "You don't have to use a sleeping bag, though..." Ellie commented innocently. "Well of course she doesn't," Gina cut in immediately. "Honestly, I raised you better than that. The guest gets the bed; the sleeping bag is for you."

"Love the lights," Ellie murmured largely to herself, a smile spreading across her face that was goofy enough that she likely would have tried harder to contain it if she'd been able to see herself. "Have fun, dear," Gina told Erik with the same airy ease she'd have used to see him off to the grocery store. "If you're changing upstairs, check to see if the sleeping bags are still in the bottom of the closest, would you?" "Hmm?" Erik raisied a curious eyebrow as he headed out of the kitchen. "Sleeping bags? Sure, I'll look." The statement sounded more like a question, particularly as he tilted his head to one side. "Well, we're hardly going to send Mara back to Greenbank of all places by herself in the middle of the night," his mother chided sternly. The elder Espadas sibling paused for a beat. "You... know she's a superhero, right?"

Releasing Erin's hand so that he could place his arm loosely around her waist, Trevor gave her a small smile. "Is a good trick. He definitely likes you," he continued, giving his girlfriend a significant look. "Practically tried to explain himself. Rare. Besides, what is there not to like?" At the last sentence a mild touch of amusement crept into his voice before he pulled the auburn haired girl a little closer and leaned down to kiss her, squishing the plush bear between them for a moment. "Want something to drink from the kitchen?" he asked as they slowly passed by that room.

"Hmn, well, but not everything I know, eh?" Travis noted with a stern look in Trevor's direction as the young man stepped around him and made his way after Erin. If she hadn't already been familiar with a not dissimilar deadpan, she might not have realized that the elder Hunter was joking. "Have learned a trick or two on my own," the current Midnight countered dryly, pausing at the doorway to slip his hand into Erin's and give it a small squeeze. Sitting back down in his armchair with a soft grunt, Travis waved them off as he retrieved his book. "Kids today, whippersnappers, off my lawn, so on."

"I think you made the padre mad, ladies," Jack noted, bobbing and weaving through the chaos of slashing nails and ethereal hands as easily as though it were empty air. "But y'know, I think you've got me all wrong," the swashbuckler quipped as he transferred his acrobatic momentum into a haymaker that knocked out one of the leanansidhe Nick's ectoplasmic limbs has restrained. "Sure, there's knights," he continued as a smooth twist brought a spinning kick and a parallel slash of his luminescent saber across a second fae, "and there's knaves." Sliding a step back with a airy confidence that made their opponents look inept and foolish, Jack smirked broadly and pointed the thumb of his free hand at his chest. "And then there's this guy."
-
Well, hold up, Jack's going to spend 2 HP, one to Surge for a Standard Action, and the other to Inspire 5 the others. That may effect Nick's Toughness roll.
-
It sounds like Heritage is going to leave Grim stunned, so here's a bunch of rolls for Jack when you get a chance, troll, using Jack's Takedown Attack 2. Just let me know how it goes! Energy Blade Flurry, Power Attack 5 vs. Leanansidhe 3. (1d20+15=25) She's Helpless, so that's actually a 29, and it should be DC 15 + 10 + 5 Power Attack + 7 Autofire = 37. Energy Blade Flurry, Power Attack 5 vs. Leanansidhe 4. (1d20+15=30) Same thing, DC 37. Energy Blade Flurry, Power Attack 5 vs. Leanansidhe 1. (1d20+15=24) Boo. Energy Blade Flurry, Power Attack 5 vs. Leanansidhe 1, HP reroll. (1d20+15=19) That becomes 29, so DC 33. Energy Blade Flurry, Power Attack 5 vs. Leanansidhe 5. (1d20+15=26) She's pinned, so I'm going to assume that's DC 37 again. Energy Blade Flurry, Power Attack 5 vs. Leanansidhe 2. (1d20+15=16) Wut. Well, probably won't get that far anyway. Let me know how that goes, keeping in mind he still has a Move Action and potentially a Surge to use, depending.

Opposed Grapple. (1d20+17=36)

While Gabriel strode forth inexorably and Grimalkin slipped from the shadows, Jack of all Blades vaulted into the chamber in a flash of royal blue and silver accents, his metamagi abilities plucking at the fae glamours that permeated the room. As his feet touched down, a long, lean saber solidified in his hand, bright cotton candy pink streaked with the orange of a sunrise but glimmering with a cold, razor edge. "Look, I don't want to be 'that guy'," he quipped as he continued his fluid movement to intercept the closet on the preternaturally gorgeous women, "but I was promised kinky sex magic rituals, and I'm honestly feeling a little let down here." Made perfectly real by the energy manipulator's powers, the illusory magics of the blade sliced into the fae with a lightning quick stroke.
-
Jack of all Blades Move Action: Run at the nearest Leanansidhe. Standard Action: Energy Blade Flurry. (1d20+20=26) Yikes! Let me know if that even hits. EDIT: Okay, actually using the default Energy Blade setting instead, as per chat. That should be DC 17 for the Drain Toughness (they'll be using Reflex, I believe) and DC 25 for the Toughness Save.

Groovy. For the sake of argument, Jack uses the EM spectrum and magic, so the vibrations coming from Gabe probably wouldn't do it, and while the issue of whether divinity counts as magic is up for some debate, since he's a regular mutant who was just jump started by unusual means, he likely doesn't count. The more you know!

With a prodigious groan, Ellie shook her head, looking sidelong at Mara. "Honestly, I think your plan is to keep making puns so bad I have to kiss you just to make you stop," she opined dryly. "Heh... 'vested'..." Erik chuckled quietly, resting a thumb and the knuckle of a forefinger over his eyes with a smirk. "Well, ladies, I hate to head out, but I'm working the graveyard shift, if you catch my meaning." Lowering the hand from his face, he snapped his fingers lightly. As he did, the light fixture on the kitchen ceiling let loose a small spark. "Very nice having you over, Mara," he told their guest with a shallow bow.

Trevor rose quickly from his seat with as much smooth composure as he could manage and moved to follow after his retreating girlfriend, but was stopped in his tracks as Travis stood more slowly from his own chair. "Erin. One moment." Without waiting for the young woman to turn around, the elderly hero spoke in a calm, soft voice underwritten in controlled, steely strength. "I am very, very proud of my grandson, for a number of reasons. Not the least of which is his excellent judgment of character. Hmm?" The elder Hunter raised one eyebrow slightly, leaving Trevor to shrug bemusedly behind him as a small smile threatened to make its presence known on his face.
-
"A few over the years," Travis explained with a small, vague gesture. "Some destroyed. Explosions, crashes. One crushed between halves of a closing bridge." "Such a waste..." Trevor muttered glumly with a muted wince. The bulk of the vehicles below in the Midnight Manor hadn't seen much or any active use; those that had rarely survived to retirement. The corners of Travis' mouth turned upward almost imperceptibly, and he clapped one hand on his knee. "Well, sure you two had other plans than talking to an old man, tonight of all nights." Off a mildly confused look from his grandson, he told Erin, "He's been working on those permeable force field emitters all month."
-
Are there any particularly interesting energy sources on hand, or shall Jack just fall back on his old standbys?

Jack matched the slender woman's grin with a wide smile of his own, bowing deeply from the waist and flourishing grandly with one arm while he reached over to take Willow's hand with the other, lifting it lightly from below without closing his fingers. "Oh, I've got all kinds of cute parts," he promised with a light-hearted, melodic laugh, brushing his lips briefly over the back of her hand before straightening. "But anytime you feel like reminding me, flora hermosa, you just feel free."

"Insulted? Bah," Travis dismissed with a small wave of his hand. "Glad to see you're prepared. Heh. Used to insist on standing during League meetings. Drove Eagle mad." His piercing gaze unfocused for a moment before he pulled himself out of the reminiscence. Trevor himself sat silently in his seat, looking between Erin and his grandfather with carefully hidden apprehension, wondering why of everyone there he felt so concerned. He wasn't sure if he should try to contribute more to the conversation or make an excuse to leave the pair alone for a short while. As he fretted, Travis answered Erin's question. "Mmn, many of them. Some designed for specific occasions that never came up. Some never felt as right as the Night Cruiser."

"Well, we certainly wouldn't want you to be in a high-risk profession," Gina nodded sagely, giving Mara a very serious look indeed. "I mean, goodness, if there were some sort of accident, you could lose the use of limb or something." "Daaamn..." Erik drawled, wincing mightily and covering his eyes with one hand. "That was ice cold." His mothers deadpan broke into a familiar smirk as she gave Mara an apologetic look. "Sorry, horribly inappropriate jokes are one of the few silver linings I enjoy. So long as you're taking precautions, nobody here is going to tell you to play it safe." "I might!" Ellie interjected a little crossly. "I've got a vested interest in keeping you in working order, y'know."

"Gee, who does that sound like?" Erik drawled, eliciting an exaggeratedly petulant look from his sister as she stuck out her tongue at him. "Ellie isn't exactly known for working well with others," he elaborated for Mara's benefit. "Yeah, right, coming from Mr. Team Player here," his sibling scoffed in turn before looking to her girlfriend. "I think people like you more than you think they do. You pull off endearingly quirky really well."

"I... think I follow," Jack said slowly, lowering one brow into a squint at Willow's circular explanation. "And I don't think you're wrong. Preparing for the future is important, definitely, but when it comes time to make a decision?" The fencer shrugged smoothly, turning his palms upward. "It's easy to overthink it, and hesitate. Some things are worth waiting for," he noted, letting just a touch of sly amusement creep into his voice, "but I prefer action. I try to do what seems right at the time, and hope everything adds up to make a difference. If I'm too worried about making a mistake, I'm pretty much guaranteed to screw up."

"That would explain nervousness up to a point," Travis assessed, not bothering to agree or disagree with Erin's compliment, "assuming one ignored now much you and your classmates have accomplished in your own short careers. Sitting like you expect an attack." "Why would she feel attacked? Not as if you're interrogating her," Trevor cut in flatly with something in his voice that almost approached heat. The young man's pale features were set with muted annoyance, and his own posture shifted as if he was about to get up to leave. His grandfather regarded him silently for a beat without reaction, then finally nodded. "Point made. May I call you Erin?" he asked abruptly.
-
"Oh phaw," Gina chided, shaking her head dismissively. "You've been nothing but lovely all evening. You can't be expected to drop everything you're working on to chat with every intern," the older woman asserted firmly. "Just so long as you've made a friend or two; wouldn't stand for it if they weren't treating you well." "She's serious," Erik confirmed with a rueful smile. "She'd wheel right in there and guilt trip every big brain she could find."

What a trustworthy looking gentleman! And he brought friends!
-
"Not at all," Travis assured the much younger woman with a small shake of his head, closing the book and setting it aside next to his tea. "Nothing in here I haven't read and reread. Just revisiting." He gestured to hardwood chairs spaced around a long table nearby in the center of the room. "Good to see you again," he told Erin as they young couple took a seat, bluntly adding, "I seem to make you uncomfortable." Sighing quietly, Trevor pinched the bridge of his nose. "Let your skills as a host atrophy," he observed flatly. There had been a time when the Hunter Estate was quite the spot for soirees of all kinds, but those days were long since past. "Ah," Travis intoned with a slight tilt of his head, gesturing to the beverage beside him. "Of course. Tea?"
