Finally kicking off and starting the artificially noisy motorcycle in the direction of the Hunter Estate, Trevor made a soft, noncommittal sound. "Not by myself. Assisted." Even on the surface of the bridge actually intended for use, the view of the river below reflecting the last of the evening sun was impressive. "Repaired ambulance that had broken down on the way to Lumins' wedding," he elaborated. "Pregnant woman in back. Delivered before making it to the hospital."

"Man, you guys are looking at this all glass half empty," Jack opined, sauntering about the warehouse to examine the murals, rather relaxed for someone who had moments earlier been participating in an otherworldly rodeo. "You're focusing on the merciless torment and sticky curses, when you could be focusing on the part about her being supernaturally sexy." Turning about he gave the others a pair of exaggeratedly enthusiastic thumbs up before waving off any objections. "Yeah yeah, mast, lashing, blah blah."
-
"Argh, can't just go quietly, can you?!" Jack shouted as he followed Harrier back up into the theater's main floor with his grappling line, letting his energy sword dissipate and rubbing one of his ringing ears with his free hand. "So that got it, right?!" he asked the group, realizing belatedly that he was speaking much more loudly than was necessary. At least his hearing was the only sense being assaulted; the nauseating jangling nerves that went along with Terminus energy were rapidly settling, though the fencer didn't expect he'd feel like eating any time soon.
-
Jack blinked a few times in surprise at the gesture before shaking his head slightly with a broad grin that displayed rows of gleaming teeth in the dull grey light. "Chica, you feel free to call me whatever you like," he told the whimsical woman with a mildly suggestive drawl as he sauntered over to lean against the oak, folding his arms across his chest. "Just out doing my job. Uh, how familiar are you with the way things work in Freedom?" the swordsman asked, tilting his head slightly to one side. "Don't really seem like you're from around here."

Trevor covered a slight start with a small cough, clearing his throat softly. "Ah... not often, no," he agreed, finding the prospect rather off-putting. "Once, when I was twelve, very uncomfortable discussion. Ended up with a stack of medical texts from the library." The estate was well stocked with tomes on nearly every topic, but the young man recalled having been left with more questions than when he'd started. "How I learned to deliver a baby, though."
-
Ellie grinned ruefully as she carried the pair of glasses back to the table. "Heh, that was like some sort of quantum courtship that also wasn't a courtship," she chuckled, handing her girlfriend the milk. "Anyway, I wouldn't feel too bad, hermano. I didn't have it sorted out in my own head until pretty recently, so you didn't have much of a chance." "Hnn," Erik grunted noncommittally. "Still. You didn't seem particularly surprised," he noted with a pointed glance at their mother. Gina cupped her mug in both hands and offered the young people a faint, knowing smile. "Let's just say there were some red flags over the years."

"Getting caught isn't really the issue," Trevor noted, squaring his shoulders unconsciously at Erin's touch. "Not much happen in the city Gramps doesn't know about, let alone the estate. We've been... discrete," he settled on after a slight pause, trying to convey the rationale behind his family's somewhat old fashioned sensibilities, "so he's being polite. Giving space." He knew that wasn't exactly what the young woman behind him was hoping to hear, but there was only so long his grandfather could be expected to make himself scarce in his own home.

"I guess it would have to be," the swashbuckler murmured with some amusement. Oddly enough, Willow's display seemed to put his more at ease; at least he knew she actually did have abilities beyond the norm, and it wasn't like he'd never seen a woman appear from a tree trunk before. "Well, if we're standing on ceremony, I go by Jack of all Blades," he introduced himself in turn, bowing deeply with a flourish of one hand that swept his damp greatcoat backward. "But if Sister Oak there says you're okay, feel free to just call me Jack."

Trevor took the descent at the same incredible speeds as their trip up, as much to encourage Erin's arms around his waist as to keep them balanced on the cable, lifting the Night Cycle's front wheel into the air to even out their weight. Reaching the road once again within moments, he pulled to a stop on the dirt shoulder. "Back to campus?" he asked through his helmet. The picnic had been the grand gesture of the evening, but given the hours the pair usually kept, there was certainly plenty of time left for anything else she felt like doing.

"Aw, don't get me wrong, Mara," Erik began with a faint, chagrined smile as he rubbed the back of his neck, "for what it's worth, you've got my big brotherly approval." "Phew, imagine my relief," Ellie drawled sarcastically, gesturing with an empty glass to inquire if anyone else wanted milk while she was pouring. Her sibling gave her a slight shove in the shoulder. "Shut up, you totally care what I think. Anyway, it's more just having to get used to her being a reasonable facsimile of an adult," he told their guest. Sighing, the fencer admitted, "I do feel kinda bad for not seeing the whole 'liking girls' thing coming. I feel like I should picked up on that sooner."

"The, uh, yard belongs to some friends of mine," Jack of all Blades replied, his expression still a little quizzical, not entirely sure that the coppery toned woman wasn't putting him on. "The police, yeah. They're not big fans of the whole sleeping in public areas thing." He wasn't about to send the young woman packing into the rain if she had nowhere else to go, but unexpected visitors to the brownstone tended to be more or less evenly split between in need of assistance and dangerous themselves. "Trees told you that, huh? Don't suppose you know a certain green haired pregnant lady?"

The patter of raindrops on the rooftop of the nearby brownstone apartment building was joined by the slightly louder sound on footsteps as an unlikely figure in black and royal blue appeared above, stooping slightly in his crouch against the rain. Rising as though about to sprint right off of the second storey surface, the sound of humming caused him to quirk his head downward. Pausing to listen for a moment, he leapt down to the ground with athletic grace and stepped over to the oak tree, looking up at its occupant with a raised eyebrow appearing from behind his bandanna mask. "Hello, who do we have here?" he called to the reclining woman in the branches.

Ellie sauntered over the the fridge, retrieving a carton of milk before reaching to the cupboard for a glass. "Heh, you should see your face," she chuckled, giving her brother a impish smirk. "Maybe I'm just surprised to see you dressing like a girl for once," he countered laconically as he finally finished clearing his throat. "Be nice, both of you," Gina warned, pointing a finger at each of them in turn, her own expression the very picture of reasonableness. "It's going to take tu hermano a little time to get used to the idea of su hermanita as a sexual being." Erik planted a hand over his face, leaning heavily against the kitchen counter. "Dios, I don't need to be hearing this..." Beside him, his sibling's cheeks darkened several shades despite her bravado.

Gabriel's thunderous blasts of sonic force ripped a path through the undulating mass of darkness, and Jack sprinted down the cleared corridor, weaving through the remaining twisting tendrils until he'd reached the point Harrier had indicated with his two handed thrust. With a humourless smirk, the swordsman's momentum shifted direction as he halted his run with a boot planted atop the heart of the Terminus beast and swung forward with his whole body to bring his rapier down into the stunned abomination's core. The tip of the crackling energy construct cut deep, and the blade continued down like a pin being slid into an inflated balloon.

Jack of all Blades Standard Action: Energy Sword, Power Attack 5. (1d20+15=25) DC 22 Drain Toughness Save, DC 30 Toughness Save. Let me know if that finishes it off; if not, I've got a surge and power stunt to try.

A soft thump above them signaled light footsteps on the roof over their heads, followed by a window sliding shut as Jack of all Blades returned from his patrol. That his teammates in the kitchen heard him arrive at all suggested he was moving hastily, and indeed it was only moments before he was jogging down the stairs "So, the good news is I didn't get sent to another Lord of the Rings knockoff," Erik called ahead of him, rounding the corner with his bandanna mask in hand, having left his greatcoat and black wig upstairs. "The bad news- oh. So, not just me then?" he finished, nonplussed as he got a look at Eli and Mona.

"It's not pity, it's called 'caring'," Ellie corrected her girlfriend not unkindly, giving her a small smile as she led the way finally back to the first floor. "It's what people who love you do, so get used to it." Evidently, cookies were something of a family habit; as the pair reentered the kitchen they found Gina and Erik partaking from a plastic tray pulled partway out of the bag. The latter coughed on oatmeal and chocolate chip as the teenagers rounded the corner, pounding on his chest ruefully as he managed to commend, "Well played." Ellie's mother simply sighed good-naturedly, shaking her head with resigned amusement as she slid the baked goods in the girls' direction.

Though silent, Trevor's emphatic response to the kiss made it perfectly clear that he was in agreement. The small devices he's placed atop the bridge kept the air about them warmer than it should have been, but the concrete underneath the thick blanket radiated enough of a chill that he retrieved a second, lighter fleece throw folded underneath the cooler and draped it about their laps before settling back down comfortably. Some of the beauty of the dimming light over the water was lost on his mutated vision, but he was more than content to quietly gaze out from their vantage point with his arm around Erin's shoulders.

"Hmm?" It took Jack a beat to connect Spellbound's advice with the cut along his chest. "Oh, that. Nah, I've had way worse. I'm awesome, but I'm only regular-people fast, y'know?" The fencer absently pulled the ripped flaps of the top of his bodysuit back to get a better look at the bleeding slash. "The bad guys are pretty much just re-scaring old scar tissue at this point. This one's just embarrassing 'cause I usually do pretty well up close and personal," he laughed ruefully, poking around behind the lobby's concierge desk to see if he could find a first aid kit. "Got way more bullet holes than stab wounds."

A step below Mara on the staircase, Ellie paused again with a concerned expression, stoking the inventor's cheek and giving her hand a slight squeeze. "Aw, Marbar..." She'd had some time to get used to the idea of her girlfriend's traumatic childhood, but the mention of it still elicited a dull ache deep in her stomach, a heavy mix of anger, sadness and protective instinct. "My brave, beautiful girl. C'mon, let's see if we can dig up some cookies or something."

Trevor shrugged his far shoulder slightly in response. "They have single rooms as well. Probably spend less time there than I do at Claremont, depending on class schedule." Securing a room on campus was more a matter of keeping his options open than anything; the Hunter Estate was close enough to make the commute manageable, but he and his grandfather maintained a handful of properties throughout the the city and around the globe just in case. Turning to Erin, he tried to gauge her expression. "It's going to be alright. Whatever happens."
-
Ellie stopped when Mara did, and took a step back to give the shorter girl a fierce hug. "The trick is only caring what the right people think," she advised with a small, lopsided smile. "In this case, you've got nothing to worry about. We've got a pretty good sense of humour around here, you may have noticed." Lifting her free hand she lightly brushed the blonde's bangs out of the way to kiss her forehead. "But thanks. It actually matters to be that it matters to you, if that makes any sense."

Trevor adjusted his reclining pose to accommodate Erin, leaning back a little further and putting his arm around her shoulders to pull her toward him. "Different kind of worry," he opined, his voice soft and relaxed. "Makes sense to be nervous. Just remember you have people to fall back on if you need." He closed his eyes briefly with a low, rumbling chuckle. "Might be nice when you have your own place, though. Dorms are starting to feel small." His expression turned a little more pensive as he continued, "Just about time to move on."
-
"Hate to break it to you, amante," Ellie began with a lopsided grin as she rose from the side of the bed to stand behind Mara, "but I can say with some certainty that you are, in fact, a girl." With her girlfriend looking back over her shoulder at her, she slid one arm around around the engineer's hips and leaned forward just enough to brush a light kiss atop her lips, then moved to lead the way back toward the door. "C'mon, we're probably pushing it even for the sake of the joke, now."

"I am a stud," Trevor asserted with similar gravitas, letting his voice drop down in the graveling bottom of its natural register. Accepting the piece of cake, the young man make an annoyed clicking noise with his tongue. "Ah, should have gotten pie from the diner. Or would that have been trying too hard?" He looked contemplatively at the dessert for a moment before continuing, "Probably goes without saying, but... even with everything we've been through this year... it's been my happiest year in recent memory. Thank you."
