"Well!" Ellie huffed, expression set as she reached over to smooth the sides of the vest and adjust the shirt's collar. "I happen to think you look nice either way, but yes, you pull off fancy just fine. And then I put it on!" She tossed her head back in an over-the-top, silent laugh, underlining the bad joke, then gave Mara a bright look. "Ooh, we should hit the vintage shops in Riverside when we get some time. I know some really great ones, and you could totally work like a faux-Victorian punk look."

Trevor looked thoughtfully into the evening sky, absently popping a grape into his mouth. "Hrm. Interesting idea. Mixed feelings." He grazed on a few different fruits, but as usual he was a light eater, having prepared considerably more food than they were likely to need. "Still, prefer not worrying about breaking something in my sleep. Hmm..." The dark haired young man tilted his head just enough to be exaggerated in comparison to his otherwise subtle body language. "Don't suppose you'd know what I mean."
-
"Hey, who's being subtle?" Ellie laughed, sitting up again and turning Mara's blouse around so she could start putting it on. "Eat a damn sandwich, woman!" The way the slate grey top was lightly cinched under the bust was a little more prominent on the taller girl, and she left an extra button undone at the neck for comfort's sake, but fortunately what was a little loose on the inventor wasn't much different from the size of the fitted vest she'd been wearing over her baggy dress shirt. "This is pretty sharp, I should steal your clothes more often."

"Mm, well you certainly look healthy," Ellie drawled, tossing her dress shirt and vest in a bunch toward Mara's head. Sighing, she rested her chin in one hand. "I just don't want you to end up a cautionary tale for Lab interns. 'Hurm, yes, she could have been great but she fell in with a bad element, by gum, hmm, quite.'" Lying back across the width of the bed, she folded her hands underneath her head. "In my head, the interns are being lectured by a stocky bearded man with a monocle and pipe, see."

"Yes, you're dating an engineer with the soul of a poet," Trevor deadpanned, twisting his torso with a light laugh as Erin lost some control over her food. "I do, he's tucked away in that chest at the foot of my bed," he explained. The ornate, wooden fixture was usually covered in one or more blanket, but the top was too rounded for it to be co-opted as shelving. "When I was old enough to start being curious about how things really went together, I started getting really worried about accidentally breaking his stitching or something. Eventually I felt better knowing he was safe."
-
"Not to kill the mystery, muñequita," Ellie drawled as she slipped off her vest and went to work on the buttons of her own shirt, "but you have seen me, y'know, wearing a shirt all the sizes too small." She paused on the last button, the top of her shirt hanging open enough to reveal a utilitarian black bra, sufficiently attractive to suggest she'd spent some time agonizing over the choice along with the rest of her outfit for the evening. "Do... you think I really am a bad influence? I don't what you to feel pressured to go along with stupid stuff I suggest, I mean."

"There, see, I can remember anniversaries and bank holidays, you can remember to buy actual food. Works out." Trevor nodded sagely, regarding the Night Bear contemplatively for a moment before Erin's question registered. "Oh, well. I was a pretty serious kid, even when I was little," he noted a little more quickly than normal. "So I didn't really... that is..." Trailing off, he mumbled something unintelligible and looked away, his cheeks darkening a little. Finally, with a sigh, he repeated more clearly, "Giraffe. Named Giraffe."
-
Trevor let out a short, pleased breath at the reaction. He hadn't been entirely sure if getting Erin a new bear would have been presumptuous or not, but sitting by and doing nothing certainly hadn't been an option. Noticing what she was looking at, he told her, "It's a key to the estate. Figured it just made sense for you to have one." He shrugged as much as he could, pressed closely beside her on the blanket, and kept his expression controlled. "I wouldn't have made a thing about it, but I was wrapping the Night Bear anyway, so."
-
"Hey," Trevor interrupted her before she could open the box under the paper, giving her a sober look. "You haven't been 'letting a lot of things slide'. Okay? You've got a lot going on, and you're doing a good job." One corner of his mouth turned upward as he added, "So open your present already." Inside the box was a plush teddy bear, it's fur a soft, shaggy black, just long enough to run fingers through without getting tangled. It's glass eyes merry red hue, the uneven fur falling over them softening the unusual colour combination. Atop its head sat a removable felt fedora with wide slots cut out of the the brim so that the bear's ears could stick through. A silver cord had been wrapped around its right paw, something metallic hanging from it. "I know how much giving up Bronwyn meant to you," Trevor explained quietly, "and I couldn't just replace her, but I figured... When it's a bad night and I'm not there, I still wanted to sort of be there."
-
"Argh," Ellie groaned, pulling her hands down her face to comically drag at her angular features, "if you're going to be adorable when you blush, this is gonna be much harder." Lowering her hands to her knees, she gave Mara an amused smile. "Seriously, though, particularly sensitive spot on my neck aside, it's probably a good idea to practice acting like mature adults or whatever." Clapping her hands abruptly, she let her grin broaden. "That said, we should totally swap tops before going back downstairs, because that's just hilarious."

"I've been finding that the overlap between hyper-prepared vigilante skills and good boyfriend skills is actually pretty high," Trevor admitted seriously before propping himself back up on his elbow to accept the proffered fruit. "Mm. Still say the skin is the best part," he teased her wryly before leaning over for a quick, kiwi flavoured kiss. "Oh, unwrap the box. It's not really an anniversary thing so much as I'd been looking for an excuse, so... yeah." His bemused shrug suggested he wasn't entirely over his habit of overthinking gifts.

Feeling his stomach roil in protest at the surge of dark forces back in the theater, Jack spun on his foot leapt back through the broken window, hacking at a writhing tendril of shadowy substance. "I know what you're thinking," he shouted as he pressed forward down the corridor, slicing away at the seething, howling mass. "'I'm a horrid, nearly formless entity beyond human comprehension from outside the very walls of life and being itself! How is this guy totally stabbing the hell outta me?'" Leaping over a slithering tentacle that suddenly shot out at him, the fencer skewered it neatly as he came back down, pinning it to the floor. "Well here's something for your Hot Topic diary, you bloated, melodramatic blob of rancid rice pudding: I'm Jack of all Blades, and I! Can stab! Anything!"
-
With a pleased noise, Ellie freed one hand to hold the back of Mara's head against the crook of her neck, tilting her head accommodatingly around the collar of her shirt. "Ah...!" For a span of time she could only measure in rapid heartbeats, she let her mind go blank. Eventually, however, she reluctantly pulled away, clearing her throat thickly. "Hoo... okay, you're dangerously close to writing a cheque my sense of semi-public humiliation isn't going to be able to cash," she warned with a shaky, chagrined smile. "But, uh, put a pin in that, okay?"

Alright, so assuming lots of freaky-deaky tentacle type things: Move Action: Auto-31 Taunt w/Skill Mastery Standard Action: Energy Sword Flurry, Power Attack 5. (1d20+15=27) Let me know if that's worth rerolling or not.

"Hm? Oh, nothing, really," Trevor noted with a bit of a start, slipping his arm around Erin's shoulders and leaning back on his other hand. "Just reminiscing. A lot has happened. Lot has changed." He offered her a small smile along with the closest approximation of a shrug his posture would allow. "Lot to take as a whole. Mostly trying to figure out how I got so lucky," he admitted, his smile broadening as he transferred his weight to one hip so he could reach across Erin to retrieve a bunch of grapes.
-
Underneath the wicker flaps, one side of the basket was filled liberally with a variety of individually packed sandwiches, the tidy construction of which suggested that Trevor had prepared them himself. In the center, sealed containers of fresh fruits sat stacked atop each other, generous slices of watermelon, whole bunches of grapes and chunks of cantaloupe and other tropical fruit. Atop the pile in a place of some prestige were several kiwi with the tops cut off, packed along with a pair of ornate spoons, that appeared to have been plucked from one of the Hunter Estate's many kitchens. The opposite side of the basket held slices of chocolate cake; that part of the meal the young man had obviously left to the professionals. "Mm. Time flies..." Trevor agreed quietly, placing his hands on his knees and staring out into the river.
-
Trevor smiled a bit into the kiss, reaching up to place one hand on Erin's cheek. "Well, if you'd remembered, I wouldn't have gotten to play romance ninja, and you know how much I enjoy that," he agreed, still smiling as he ran his fingers through her auburn hair and leaned in to kiss her again before leading the way over to the middle of the blanket. "The projectors keep the wind down and warm up the air," he explained despite her decision not to ask, clearly a little proud that he'd managed to pull it off. "Also keep out the rain, if necessary."
-
Pulling up sharply on the handlebars to hop the bike onto the bridge's support cables, Trevor took them rapidly up the entwined steel wires, though not quite as quickly as he had the first time. At they reached the apex and the square concrete platform there, he unexpectedly stopped, hidden clamps abruptly extending from the Night Cycle's hubcaps to secure the vehicle in place. Hopping off and balancing nimbly in place, he offered Erin one of his hands and gestured with the other. Atop the level platform, a thick, plaid blanket had been spread, a covered picnic basket and portable cooler sitting to one side next to a box wrapped in what appeared to be newsprint comic strips. At each corner of the blanket, a small device in the signature matte black favoured by the vigilante known as Midnight blinked away, providing a warm illumination but otherwise remaining unobtrusive. Upon crossing the space between them however, the wind was suddenly dulled to a slight, comfortable breeze. "So," Trevor began with a pleased smile. "Happy anniversary."
-
"Not many girls are worth it," Trevor replied over the sound of the whipping wind, grinning under his helmet. The stunt had been considerably showier than the laconic youth's normal behaviour, but he'd gotten into the habit of pulling out all the stops since meeting Erin. "Reprise sounds about right. Going for a variation this time, though. Just hold on tight." At the speeds of which the disguised Night Cycle was capable, it wasn't long before the foot of the bridge was rapidly growing larger before them. "Ready?"
-
Her grin widened for a brief moment before Ellie shifted to meet the kiss with a low, growling murmur from the back of her throat. At the warm sensitivity of the gesture, the sound became a yielding sigh as she adjusted her posture to melt against her girlfriend, letting her eyelids flutter closed. Moments slipped away until she finally needed to break away for air, her cheeks now blushing in earnest. "Wow," she said softly, keeping her forehead against Mara's, "how do you do that?"

Trevor felt a little tension melt from between his shoulders as Erin's helmeted head rested there. He's been well aware of just how much she'd had on her mind lately, and it bothered him that there wasn't much he could do about most of it. Even if all he could manage was to take her mind off of things for a while, he was glad it was working. Before long, the Pramas Bridge rose into view before them, and the young man called backward, "So... remember the first time we went riding together?"
-
Ellie's cheeks darkened a shade as she brushed at her bangs with one hand. "Look, you already knew I went through a goth phase. There are terrible things in my past you're just going to have to accept." When Mara sat down, she considered for a moment. "Well, mi hermano is gonna think that regardless. ...actually, Mamá will too, she'll just be more polite about it," she admitted with a resigned shrug that quickly gave way to grin as she reached over to take Mara's hands from her lap. "And if we're going to get grief anyway..."

"Aw, don't be like that!" Jack shouted over the sounds of battle as he remained seated amongst the wild bucking. "We could have like a wacky buddy cop thing going on! 'He's a masked man who stabs people! He's a talking horse who stabs people! Together, they stab people!'" Flipping his energy construct around in his palm, the swashbuckler brought the fiery blade down into the steed, unleashing a wave of metamagi force that brought the unicorn to its knees without doing any permanent harm. Hopping off the creature's back before it could roll unconscious to its side, Jack sighed. "Then again, maybe it wouldn't have worked out."
-
"Mm, playing the 'mysterious, dark avenger' card," Trevor told her, shaking his head slightly as he took her hand and led the way to the garage. "Sorry. Just have to wait and see." The Night Cycle was already set to go when they got there, switched over to its less conspicuous blue paint job and cleaned of the mud the rainy weather had been supplying in ample quantities. Trevor gave Erin a short bow, vaguely miming holding the door open to a carriage before swinging onto the motorcycle himself.
