  1. Heart pounding in a way that had nothing to do with the speed of the Night Cycle, Trevor craned his neck slightly to brush against the top of Erin's auburn hair, any chill in the night air warded off by the warmth of the young woman pressed against the back of his silk dress shirt. Relief that the evening had gone over well made him realize just how integral her happiness had become to his own. He didn't mind.

"Yeah, I like the fights too," Jill agreed, perhaps misunderstanding Eve's meaning as she briefly mimed a loose right hook. "Anyway, I'm pretty sure the Minutemen are playing somebody tonight. That's the FCU hockey team," she clarified, immediately realizing how little the name would mean to the relatively new arrival. "It's just the regular season and all, so it shouldn't be hard to get in. If you felt like it."
  5. Pausing only to reflexively make sure Wander was alright as the underwater vessel shuddered, Midnight moved deftly after the Atlantean monarch toward the hatch. The submerged exercises his grandfather had put Trevor through had been more about functioning in a zero gravity environment, but the skills they'd developed were even more relevant now. Slipping through the water like a sleek, black shadow, he quickly placed himself in a better position to assess the forces arrayed against them.

  7. A grin pulled Trevor's lips back from teeth that gleamed dimly in the city's lights at the sound of Erin's laugh and the feeling of her presence close behind him. "Well, since it is you birthday..." he drawled wryly as he leaned forward slightly and pour on the speed, the Night Cycle practically reacting to his intent as much as his deft hands on the controls. If perhaps the young man was showing off a little more than he normally would, well, it was a special occasion after all.
  8. Sliding forward of the bike to make room for Erin and leaning back over the handlebars, Trevor allowed himself a small, satisfied smile as he thumbed the activation stud of a transponder that would send to unconscious mugger's coordinates to a member of M'balla's security staff. As much leeway as the visiting students had been given, there was no reason not to afford their host every respect in that regard. The pair drove back out of the dissipating cloud of midnight mist, leaving any outside observers terribly confused, and Trevor glanced back over his shoulder for a brief moment. "Of course."
  9. Worth mentioning, while everyone's getting their Invent and Master Plan on, that Jack can also convey some brief but excellent bonuses with Inspire given the chance. Which leads me to my question: if Jack and Jill split up, how do I handle HPs? Can she still spend from Jack's store without him physically there?
  10. "We'll have you roasting chestnuts by the fire yet, big guy," Jack told Avenger absently, the bulk of his attention focused on the workshop floorplans. "What'd she use to take your crew down?" he asked the Christmas Crusader. "Sounds like it was more than just surprise. Messing with their powers?" Meanwhile, his sibling was taking part in the planning stages of the assault's other half. "If 'Fly stays close by, I can keep us both covered from most stuff, and you guys can fall back if you get hurt. Won't do much for Vic's robo-bit but at least-- I'm sorry, how is 'never had a Christmas before' not important?!" she blurted out, evidently unable to get past the gadgeteer's off-hand comment. "That is so wildly unacceptable."
  11. "Her, I like," Jack smirked, pointing a thumb toward the slight gadgeteer and giving his sister a level look. "You can keep her, but you have to take this one for walks like you promised." Glancing over at Avenger, he offered an exaggerated wince. "You need to leave comedy to the professionals; you're creeping me out." Ignoring her elder sibling magnificently, Jill's expression was aghast at Dragonfly's statement. "Haven't had-- what? What does that even-- are you serious?" She leaned back slightly, evidently trying to decide whether the other young woman had been joking or not. "I've got nothing on Mr. Creature of the Night here," Jack continued to the elven hero, "but it makes more sense for me to get in close and personal. I'm on Team Sneaky Sneak." The swordsman caught Miss Americana's attention and jerked his chin toward Jill. "Keep an eye on her, huh?"
  12. In the mere moments it had taken Erin to close the distance and restrain the mugger, Trevor had retrieved a pair of restraints from one of the Night Cycle's compartments. In one smooth movement, the concealed youth used the flung man's own momentum to close the cuff over one of his wrists before dragging him about and cuffing the other arm along side the first behind the man's back. An abrupt, twisting kick sent the disoriented criminal back the way he'd come to bounce painfully off of the alleyway wall and collapse in an unconscious heap as the midnight mist cloud continued to drift outward from the scene.
  13. Jack placed his elbows atop the Christmas Crusader's sleigh, leaning back as Avenger mused grimly on the best way to procure weapons effective against an icy foe. "It's a pickle," he agreed with a sage nod. "If only we knew someone with the ability to, oh, weaponize heat and fire is some fashion. But where could we find such a man?" Jill shot her brother a flat look as she helped Dragonfly back out of the engine compartment. "I swear, he's only like half as big an idiot as he seems," she promised the group.
  14. Jill leaned back slightly from her seated position as Dragonfly suddenly more talkative, leaning forward again as the mechanically inclined young woman dove back into the sleigh's inner workings. "Don't have to dumb it down for the sidekick," she noted dryly, reflexively grabbing the other girl's legs to steady them as they swung around near her. "I am the brains in the family, after all. More the human machine than, y'know, actual machines, but still."

"Right, 'cause I totally offered just so I could take it back like thirty seconds later," Jill scoffed, waving off Eve's concern. "Just gotta actually think of something," the coltish girl pondered, unconsciously twisting a lock of hair around one index finger as she frowned slightly. "Dios, I really do need to get out more. Hum. Ah, well... how do you feel about hockey?" she asked finally.
  16. Raising one eyebrow inquisitively, Jill stepped around the sleigh to the front hood, hopping up acrobatically to perch cross-legged on the hood peering down after Dragonfly into the hatch. "You seriously know what all this stuff does?" the coltish girl asked, grudging respect and curiosity slipping through the skeptical veneer. Jack was much more interested in the Christmas Crusader's ominous hinting. "Did you say Snow Queen?" the swashbuckler asked, placing one hand on his chin with a rakish smirk. "Let's not beat around the bush; I've got one vital question for you. How attractive are we talking? Scale of one to ten it for me, CC."
  17. "Well excuse me, princess," Jill muttered in return, a bit put off by Dragonfly's derisive reaction to her mistake. "And it's 'junior partner'," she added mostly to herself, crossing her arms although the force field wind shied remained in place over their heads. Jack for his part gave Avenger a disapproving look in response to the vampire's brusque rebuke of Miss Americana. "Hey now, that's no way to talk to a-- Dios, that's a freakin' sleigh." The fencer blinked a few time before a broad grin spread over his face which only widened as the diminutive figure demanded an answer. "Ha ha, guys, check it out, he's even got a candy cane cape, that's fantastic! Best unexplained teleport into adventure ever!" Jill moved closer to get a better look, brushing her bangs back with one hand. "Wow. Uh, yeah. This goes right past 'out there' and hits 'touch your nose while walking in a straight line' territory." She gave the elf a small, self-conscious wave. "Ah, hi! We're here to help?"
  18. "Huh, good eye..." Jill murmured as she spotted the buildings the visor wearing young woman had pointed out. Flexing a little warmth back into her gloved fingers, she gestured pointedly as a translucent blue arc spread outward from her body with a slight electrical crackle, forming a wind screen for the assembled group. She moved a little closer to the other girl as the assembled heroes started off, her interest evidently piqued. "So, are you here with the robo-wings guy?" she asked, tilting her head in the direction of the similarly attired cyborg. The elder sibling, on the other hand, gave Miss Americana a gesture that was somewhere between a gallant bow and an amused shrug. "Looks like you're hoofing it like the rest of us common stiffs, gorgeous." He continued on a few steps to step in next to Avenger before continuing more quietly, "I'd know if it was anything electromagnetic, man. No dice. You're still... y'know, right? Any idea what kind of juju could nip at your nose?" His tone lacked a measure of his usual jocular showmanship, falling back into a more serious demeanor when speaking with the grim vampire.
  19. "Hooah, snowflakey," Jack of all Blades observed as he and his sister stepped through the portal, letting out a long breath that formed a cloud of vapour in the frost air before him. "Well, hey, Bright Eyes, Broodmeister! We saving Hallowe'en and the Forth of July, too?" Straightening her jacket against the chill wind, Jill O'Cure, rolled her eyes. "Can we try not to look ridiculous in front of new people?" she drawled with a brief nod to the unfamiliar pair wearing high tech armor and equipment. "He's Jack, I'm Jill," the coltish teen explained by way of introduction, giving the girl, who looked roughly the same age as her, a small smile of vague camaraderie. "As for a plan... we headed toward the thunder?" "Well, I'm not going to get to break out the season-based innuendo just standing here," her brother confirmed.
  20. There was a stunned pause as the Espadas siblings regarded the Master Mage. "...this is why I keep telling you to get a cellphone, you know," Ellie noted finally. "Don't you start with me, Eliza," her brother warned her, closing his eyes tightly then reopening them in lieu of a free hand to rub his temples. Even Eldritch's projection thrummed with enough mystic might to vibrate the energy manipulators back teeth. Pulling a face at the mention of her full name, Ellie tossed her cup in a nearby receptacle and pointed a finger at Erik. "I will punch you in the throat, seriously." "Uh huh. Give us a minute, chief," he told the cloaked sorcerer before leading his sister around the corner of a hallway leading to one of the mall's loading bays. Discreetly stowing their packages away where they were unlikely to be stumbled upon, the siblings quickly changed into their more iconic personas. Zipping up her crimson jacket over the the black thermal body stocking she'd adopted for the winter months, Jill O'Cure asked, "So, just to be clear: we're going to go save Christmas?" Jack of all Blades flashed a broad, toothy grin as he tugged his royal blue bandanna mask into place. "Hermanita, we're gonna go save the hell outta Christmas."
  21. "Who brings a stroller into a crowded store?" Erik Espadas grumbled as he tired in vain to maneuver through the gridlock of last minute shoppers while balancing a stack of cumbersome packages. With his brown, wool lined jacket buttoned tightly about him, the dusty brown haired acrobat glared flatly at the crowds of Ashton Mall, his teeth grinding behind his customary light stubble. Behind him, his younger sister sipped serenely on a hot chocolate, a deep red scarf tucked into her black peacoat and her dyed locks covered by a snug toque. "Should have done your shopping online, hermano. I was done my shopping ages ago," Ellie boasted. Erik lurched to one side as a pair of children racing by at waist height knocked into him, forcing him to shift quickly to keep his gifts from topping over. "And yet here you are," he pointed out, raising one eyebrow slightly. "What, you came for moral support?" "Mostly I just draw power from your suffering," the shorter Espadas quipped airily, catching a small bag in her palm as it fell from the top of her brother's pile. "Right, silly me," Erik drawled dryly with a slight snort. Before he could offer a retort, however, a rising commotion from the crowd drew his attention to one of the store fronts, where a pattern of brilliant white hexagons were shining with blinding light. Ellie shielded her eye with her paper cup. "Dios, that's some window display. What is that, the sunglasses shop?" The elder sibling's eye narrowed slightly as a frown slid over his face. "...I don't think so."
  22. "Naturally," Trevor replied as a wave of his arm sent a roiling wave of midnight mist sweeping through the alleyway, blotting out the city's lights and concealing them from the petty thug. As the mugger stumbled backward from his victim in surprise, casting blindly about, the young man on the back of the Night Cycle gave Erin a shallow bow, offering her the first attack in a vaguely predatory show of affection.
  23. Arms crossed, Midnight watched Fusion's reaction to Otaku's taunting and the pleas of Fleur and Gabriel with a stony impassiveness, saying nothing. Admittedly, the black clad vigilante had little objection to the obnoxious roboticist arriving into police custody with a few broken bones, but any restraint the heroine showed would be meaningless if it stemmed from a place of peer pressure. Ultimately, Trevor Hunter believed in humanity's better nature, given the chance to decide for itself. Fusion did not disappoint. Without a word, Midnight moved to the bank of broadcast equipment and dislodged the power cable from the wall with his foot, turning the screen blank and the speakers silent, then turned to give the limp form a brief look to confirm that Otaku was in no immediate medical danger.
  24. Trevor murmured a quiet agreement as he observed the city around them. Some of the rhythms of the evening bustle were familiar, some markedly different, rich with Dakana's signature blend of innovation and tradition. It was easy to feel like Freedom City was the center of the world sometimes, but the young mystery man was beginning to realize just how little of the world he'd really seen for himself. "Glad we came."
  25. Having retrieved a wealth of information as he was searching for the crystal deposit, Midnight was well prepared to transport them as required. "Give Persephone this," he instructed Hellion, displaying a scrolling list of data on his handheld tablet while the device streamed it wirelessly to the cambion's comlink system. As Edge's uncharacteristically taciturn update crackled over his own communicator, the black clad hero felt his mist infused blood run cold. Adamant... The malicious armour was neigh unstoppable; it could only be delayed in its rampage. "Persephone, now," he demanded as bright light washed over the entire area, teleporting the two young men and several hundred pounds of daka crystals to their teammates' position.
