With a soft tinkling sound, the hooks straightened and retracted up Midnight's sleeves as the young man hurried to his grandfather's side, quickly doing away with the elderly man's bonds. "Alright?" Travis stepped off the alter with some difficulty and minor assistance, snorting derisively as he did so. "Ones who came to take me in worse shape than I am," he told his protege calmly. "Nice work." Supporting his grandfather's weight, Midnight moved back toward Dead Head and the passage out of the caves. "Any idea what this was about?"

The Night Cycle slid to a silent halt just behind a barricade of police cars as the absurd automaton declared its intent. The motorcycle's black clad rider observed the situation through red lenses and narrowed eyes for a moment before flipping open a small, concealed panel on the vehicle's handle bars and thumbing the revealed button. The front fender slid apart with a slight hiss as a cylinder extended slightly before quietly launching a nondescript sphere in a lazy arc to land at the base of the GBN building's transmitting array. "The show's over," Midnight informed the robot in a low, grating rumble in the pause before an explosion ripped through the metal girders and sent the entire tower topping over to crash into the massive foe with a screech of twisting metal and a resounding impact.

Midnight is going to blow up the bottom of the radio tower to stop the signal and send it into the giant robot. 'Cause he's efficient like that. Craft [mechanical] check vs. DC 25. (1d20+15=23) Boo. Burn an HP to make it automatically. Gadgets! Damage 13 (Extra: Area [General, Line], Flaw: Action [Full Round], Power Feat: Indirect) [14PP]

Trevor looked between the pair for a silent moment before flatly repeating, "...explodes." Spreading his hands slightly in what was the generally reserved teen's equivalent of throwing his hands up in the air in surrender, he turned and walked back away for the exasperating couple. "Made for each other," he noted quietly, although his dry tone made it unclear whether or not he was being complimentary.

The coltish teen propped her head up on a pair of fingers, resting her elbow on the kitchen counter and letting out a resigned sigh. "Buddy, you are asking the wrong girl." Rather than simply take Talya's hand, Jack held it gently in his own and bowed low with a dramatic flourish to brush a light kiss over her knuckles. "Well, it would hardly be gentlemanly to let you walk home on your own. You could be robbed!" His expression held mock sobriety as he straightened and stepped slightly closer, but the swashbuckler wasn't able to maintain it in the face of the blonde's smile, a boyish grin pulling at his features.

Jack let out a quick laugh, a surprisingly melodic sound. "Hey, I'm not the one who ought to watch the teasing," he countered, crossing his arms and leaning forward slightly. "Just 'cause I can't keep up with you doesn't mean I'm not ready and willing to try." Listening to her plan he nodded agreeably. "Works for me. Little depressing that the waiters dress better than I do, but s'not like I've never waited a table before."

Across town, within a large chamber of a stately manor, Travis Hunter sat in a stiff backed chair and steepled is fingers in displeasure as he watched the flat panel screen across from him, his neatly trimmed salt and pepper goatee framing a thin grimace. "Disgraceful." A much younger figure stepped in beside him, setting down a tea tray. Trevor Hunter took a moment to observe the jarring combination of over processed music and flashing lights before replying, "It is Otaku." "Hmph. Time was even the villains had a sense of dignity to them. 'Gaijin'. If Hank and his brother had lived to see this..." Travis' eves narrowed, a hint of anger flickering over his stoic demeanor. "Best get going." Trevor raised one eyebrow slightly. "Don't think the Freedom League can handle themselves?" Bomb threat or not, it was difficult to tie a super speedster and the living embodiment of an entire city up for long. "Poor girl has enough trouble keeping her team in order," his grandfather appraised with a slight shake of his head, turning off the television with his remote. "Go." With a curt nod, the younger man was off in a dead sprint toward a nearby staircase, shoulders squaring as a hard look set in glossy black and crimson eyes.

"I may not know art," Jack admitted philosophically, "but I know what I like." The sword in his hand dissipated without warning to be immediately replaced at the soldier's face by a swift fist, leaving the last remaining man in an unconscious pile. "Mostly I like punching bad guys," he clarified, flexing his hand briefly. "As for a plan... not to bring up a lady's experience, but I'm pretty sure you outrank me." There was a note of genuine deference in his tone, which was quickly spoiled as he smirked and wryly added, "Ma'am."

Even as searing flame rolled past the great beast's toothy maw, Midnight swung his chain hooks down as one, digging them deep into the chimera's back, then sprang forward with a herculean pull. The movement sent him arcing though the air over the fiery cone while tearing through scaly hide until another quick tug dislodged the wicked barbs, metal links clattering coldly among pained roar. Landing smoothly on the creature's back, the black clad vigilante swung his arm out once more, sending a chain in a curving trajectory as the chimera rear backward, easily keeping his balance as the hook rounded the other side of his foe's head a snatching it out of the air before securing it on a massive ram-like horn. Leaping back to the cave floor, he pulled tight, the line cutting off air flow through the gargantuan throat.

Midnight wasn't entirely sure how to respond to Hellion's abrupt reappearance. He certainly didn't feel threatened, per se, but for obvious reasons the two young men had not been particularly close before James' prolonged absence. Ultimately, as Mark was pulled away, he decided that the unexpected turn of events did nothing to change where the evening's priorities belonged. As steel brushes pulled out a seething beat on snare drums, he slid his hand into Erin's and nodded silently toward the dance floor, head tilted slightly to one side.

Talya had barely stepped away before Jack turned to the rest of the team, walking slowly backward as he said, "Hey, y'know what? I've got a really promising lead I want to check out, so you guys work on that whole 'research' angle and I'll go... do that." Gesturing over his shoulder with one thumb, he spun on his heel and jogged after the ex-thief. Jill's expression conveyed a complete lack of surprise. "Somebody's got somebody's number, alright."

"...thematic," Trevor insisted following after Liz in a relaxed saunter, his hands resting in his pockets. When a bleeding Chris appeared from the Pitchoo, the lanky youth hung back, letting the brown haired inventor rush forward. At the prodigious slap, however, his athletic form was suddenly beside the pair, looming several inches over either of them. "While I'm told that's a common reaction to Chris," he suggested calmly, "perhaps after?" Trevor regretted interfering in the awkward situation almost immediately, but the die had been cast. "Bullet pass through?" he asked the other young man.

An inconspicuous panel of wallpaper next he fridge went dark briefly before lighting up again with Vince's image, the avatar's coiffed head expanding comically like a balloon until a large belch deflated him back to regular proportions. "Woo! Easy there, lightning bug, I've been trying to watch my weight!" The AI was largely playing along for the sake of comedy; even full, it would have taken an entire library of such books to give his processing power pause. Jill shot the simulated talk show host a flat look before turning to Eli. "If it was documenting real event, wouldn't it be adding lines?" the teen pointed out dryly. "Either way, since we've already established that I'm a Queen..." "You're a royal pain, alright," he brother interjected with a short snort, rubbing the back of his neck at Talya's pointed looks. It was tough to do much in the way of reciprocal with his teammates cramping his style, but at least it would keep him out of trouble. Not that I actually mind trouble...

Jack smile stiffened slightly on his mouth but remained in place. "Reward system," he confirmed, his tone exaggeratedly light as he gave his weathered friend a significant though subtle gesture with his chin. "System of reward." "Jeez, if somebody's gotta explain that one to you, it's gonna be a dull honeymoon," Jill drawled dryly, resting her chin in one palm and giving Colt a sidelong glance. The teen's attention seemed piqued when Talya mentioned that the book had originally been French; as evidenced by her pseudonym at Claremont, the younger sibling was considerably more interested in their father's side of the family than her brother.

[Interceptors] Zombie Powder is a Helluva Drug [OOC]

"On the contrary, my dear," Jack countered with a spreading, feral grin, affecting the slightest hint of a posh accent as he showed teeth which gleamed in the dim light of the store room. "An auction means several unsavory types all concentrated in one place, in convenient stabbing range. That's just thoughtful." He shifted his stance to being the blacklight of the energy blade in a slow arc just in front of the man's neck. "Going to be here at the gallery, yeah? Bid on the trash paintings as a cover?"
-
Trevor let out a muted grunt which gave way to a long exhalation as the overtaxed muscles in his shoulders loosened and he stretched his neck to one side. "Hnn, well. Not to leave you with two sleeping guys to take care of, but..." The rest of the sentence was cut off by a yawn he made no attempt to restrain, thin lips briefly pulling back over white teeth. Slouching to slide a little lower on the couch, he closed his eyes and rested his head against Erin, his breathing becoming shallow and rhythmic.

Standing slightly behind Erin, Midnight's expression was unreadable behind his featureless black mask as Mark vigorously pumped James' hand. If the founding members of Young Freedom, a telepath among them, were convinced that the tuxedo clad young man was who he appeared to be, that would have to be enough for now, though the lean silhouette didn't move his hand far from his belt. "Hellion," he greeted in a soft rumble, noticeably subdued and defaulting to code names while in public. "Surprising timing."

Leaning forward slightly into the brief kiss, Trevor held the cool, unopened bottle in his hand against his forehead for a moment before gently setting it down on the table. "Days tend to blur together," he admitted, using the freed hand to massage a knot in the muscle over his shoulder blade. "Don't get much time for... this, though," he continued, a restrained gesture taking in the pair of them. "Hate to waste any."

Settling in more comfortably, Trevor tossed a few kernels of popcorn into his mouth with a subtle smile. Closing his eyes for a moment, he enjoyed the comforting presence of Erin beside him, letting his mind go quiet as deep set insecurities faded easily into the background. Catching himself nodding off again, the dark haired youth reopened his eyes amidst a stifled yawn. "Sorry," he apologized ruefully, "long couple of nights."

Jack looked up from the book to Talya, eye contact confirming that she had been speaking to him specifically. The little voice in his head which always screamed danger when Bombshell was around was certainly going off, but for better or worse he'd long ago perfected the technique for letting his mouth work independently from his brain. "Well, I'm sure we could work out some kind of reward system," he suggested smoothly, a suggestive smirk turning one corner of his mouth upward.

Frowning slightly at the DVD disk changer's inefficient design, Trevor inserted the film and made his way back to the couch, retrieving the remote as he went. "Monsters Inc. seemed apropos," he answered, tossing the empty case onto the cushion next to Erin and seating himself on the opposite side. Pressing the play button, he set the remote down on the table and accepted the proffered bottle in the emptied hand. His expression deadpan, he made an exaggerated show of stretching through a yawn before innocently letting one arm fall over her shoulders.

Midnight's shoulders squared imposingly as the group entered the ballroom, narrowed red lenses reflexively scanning the room for threats, simultaneously ranking guests for potential social challenges and assassination attempts. He reacted to Erin's abrupt stop immediately, hand reaching for the back of his matte black belt a split second before Alex's psychic shout elicited a slow blink. Even in the crowd, it wasn't hard to pick out the charming cambion amidst a pocket of beautiful women. His attitude turning cautious, the black clad youth began running through possible techniques for confirming that this was indeed James returned.

As the microwave hummed in the next room, Trevor ran a hand through his black hair, which was beginning to get shaggy enough that he made a mental note to get it cut soon. Agonizing for a moment more, the teen resolved to stop overthinking the issue and split the difference between the two genres available by selecting Monsters Inc from the rack and busying himself preparing the disc and the settings on the television, making sure the volume was turned down low so as not to disturb the sleeping infant.
