  1. Jill pulled a bit of a face. "Ick, babies." Catching herself before she stuck out her tongue, and coughed lightly into the back of her hand to cover it. "So, uh, there was one other thing I wanted to ask you about, too, actually." Self-consciously running a hand through her dyed hair, the teen hesitated before continuing. "Jack mentioned that when you were fighting those alien space plant things, you kinda... made them explode. A bit. And I basically want to not explode anybody with the ol' Left Hand of Doom, so..."
  2. Creeping along the rocky tunnel, Midnight paused as the unlikely pair reached the fork in the passage. Turning to Dead Head, he quietly intoned, "Don't want anything coming up behind us. Check the right, then double back." Without waiting for confirmation or explaining what he would be doing himself, the black clad vigilante faded further into the shadows and headed down the left passageway to take stock of what they were up against.
  3. "Well, it's not like he didn't do his best to get himself shot before I got all glowy-handed," Jill noted, shrugging with her palms turned upward. "I've actually been volunteering at Trinity for a while now. There's not a whole lot they'll let a high school kid do, but I impressed a couple of the doctors, I guess, 'cause they throw some pre-pre-med tips by way when they can." She walked slowly around the rejuvenated trees, admiring Stesha's handiwork. "I want to get good at this, but I'm not going to stop studying the old fashioned way. Easy come, easy go, y'know?"
  4. Erik and Colt wandered back into the room in time to see Ellie snapping her jaw shut with an audible click. "So how come he's not actually stupid?" she asked her brother, jerking a thumb in Eli's direction. "Woah, hey!" the swordsman's eyebrows went up as he raised his hands defensively and addressed the studying speedster. "I never said you were stupid, honest!" "No, you said he reminded you of you," Ellie responded immediately, with a smirk, "so, natural mistake." Crossing her arms over the back of the couch, she leaned back over it. "Thanks for the assist, Zip. That's actually some pretty cool stuff; I'm vaguely impressed."
  5. Travis gave Mark a look of muted bemusement before nodding slightly in acknowledgment. "We'll stay near the monitors," he told Trevor calmly, as close as he'd ever get to wishing his protege luck and telling him to be safe. The sentiment wasn't lost on the young man who responded with a similarly taciturn nod as he pulled his featureless black mask over his face and replaced his fedora atop his head. Forcing himself to focus, Midnight stepped in beside Edge. "Teleport," he suggested brusquely, drawing his escrima sticks and flexing his grip.

  8. "Hmm," Trevor grunted thoughtfully as he slid himself forcibly back under the car. "Went with a morpic molecule paint job on the Night Cycle," he offered conversationally as he continued to tap a various parts with little regard to politeness. "Run an electrical current through it, colour changes. Still trying to get the decals right, though." The lean young man finally rolled out the other side of the vehicle, apparently unbothered by the dust and grime he'd acquired over his dark clothing. "Pannels hold up to closer scrutiny, but... it's all so green."

"No, see, there's your problem, don't think about holding a weapon," Jack insisted, stepping over to adjust Gaian Knight's stance, knocking one foot a little to the right and bringing his elbow down slightly. "Look when you do the thing with the rocks, you're not imagining moving each bit by hand, right? You picture the result, the rest follows." The swashbuckler took a pair of steps back to get a better look at the older man's corrected positioning. "You're not holding your arm, it is your arm." Hopping up to take a seat on the rocky outcropping the geokinetic had created to demonstrate his blade's durability, Jill raised an eyebrow. "Is it bad that some of that almost made sense to me?"
  10. Jill grinned as she took a step back from the tree to survey her handiwork. "Well, I get a lot of practice on a human being, anyway," she replied to Fleur, letting out a short, wry breath. "You've met my brother. Not exactly brimming with self preservation instinct." Brushing some dirt off of her hands, she pulled a face. "I swear, I think he's gotten more reckless now that I can fix him faster."

"Heh, is this where you reveal that you're not actually psychic, you've just got mad Sherlock Holmes skills?" Spreading her hands, Jill conceded to Eve's observations. "Euh, it's not that bad," she excused with a shrug and sardonic half-smile. "I'm a roll with the punches kinda gal anyway. But, for the sake of argument, I guess I'm just not great at, y'know, 'making friends'." She framed the words in finger quotes, well aware of the hackneyed sentiment.
  12. You're scum, know that? Trevor growled inwardly to himself as he moved away from the group under the pretense of restocking the spare costume. Could have kept her out of danger. No frame of mind for combat. The angry mental growl differed from the usual sly voice of self doubt, he noted distractedly as he swapped a pouch a tear gas pellets out for incendiary bombs. At least you managed to make a fool of yourself with that hug. What did you think was going to happen? Ah, there it was. "Why don't you have a seat, madame?" Travis suggested with an odd, quiet charm that worked better with his elderly features than it did on his grandson. "I'll make some tea." Rising with his cane, he walked slowly, pausing as he reached Mark to ask pointedly, "Does you mother have any allergies to medications, boy?"
  13. His back still turned to the others, Trevor froze at Erin's question, stricken expression hidden. All he wanted to do was answer 'yes', to assure her that he wasn't going anywhere so long as she needed him. But his city was under siege, Midnight's city, and every minute he hesitated, someone else might lose the person they needed standing beside them. Turning around with his mask still hanging from his belt, he moved tentatively to the auburn haired girl and wrapped her in a fierce hug before taking a half step back. "Erin, I... have to try." He lifted the featureless visage from his belt. "It's who I am. Have to go, but I will always come back. Too much to live for." The last was even quieter than his usual soft tone, as he brushed her cheek lightly with his free hand.
  14. Glancing over at the screen, Midnight suppressed an odd sense of satisfaction. From observing Anti-Earth's Daisy and the way he attempted to deal with Erin's double, Trevor had had all the evidence he needed that this 'Hex' was the worst sort of scum. It made sense; Mark was such a pure soul, the inversion was bound to be horrific. That raised some potentially uncomfortable questions about the balance between The Blank and himself, but for the time being, he could live with that.
  15. As Hex staggered back from Singularity's assault, he felt a prick on his back, followed by a slow, slick sliding sensation between his ribs. Looking down, he saw the tip of a long, thin blade poking out through the diamond emblazoned on his chest."You heard the lady, 'old chum'." Appearing behind him as if from nowhere, The Blank smoothly retracted the blade back through flesh, costume and cape, the quick flick sending a spray of blood splattering across his white pant leg in a delightful pattern. Adjusting his tie fussily, he left a red smudge on the knot with his thumb as he watched the probability controller sway for a moment before collapsing to his knees and keeling over to the office floor. "'No' means 'no'." The blood stained assassin glanced over at Singularity as he casually backed away. "Don't read too much into it. I was always going to kill him sooner or later anyway." Detail in the room began to blur and brighten as he neared the hole in the window, tossing the frenzied girl a sardonic salute just before things faded completely out of sight. "Still. Seems everything is coming up... White."

"Oh, y'know, good," Jill responded reflexively, brushing her bangs away from her eyes in a self conscious tic. "I mean, not crazy awesome or anything, but fine. Just settling in." In this case 'settling in' was a euphemism for 'keeping to herself and not talking to anyone' but given her company, complaining seemed to be in poor taste. "It's different, definitely. Lot to get used to."
  19. Turning from the monitors, Trevor turned to Erin, his stoic expression clouded as he walked further into the chamber to a row of utilitarian metal lockers, opening the first to reveal a spare Midnight costume, including belt and mask. The cut of the jacket was closer to Travis' trenchcoat than the shorter one the young man usually wore, but he donned it without hesitation. His back turned to the other, he pitched his voice softly enough that he knew only Erin's enhanced hearing would be able to pick it up. "Not letting you out there on your own. Question is, can you trust me to take care of myself, or are you going to be distracted? Could get us both killed." His words were blunt, but an unusual stick in his baritone revealed how much difficulty he was having getting them out.
  20. The Blank uses Skill Mastery for a Auto 29 Stealth check, then uses his grappling hook (Super-Movement 1 [swinging], Speed 1 [10 MPH]) to zip down the side of the building to the hole Singularity made.
  21. Taking stock of the rooftop, The Blank retracted his stiletto blade back into his sleeves with a suppressed click. "I'm forced into the unenviable position of agreeing with both Hex and Thrash," he sighed with a much put upon shrug. "Time is of the essence and we only waste it attempting teamwork. So..." The others realized too late that the criminal gadgeteer was already activating his white out effect as his pristine outfit faded from sight."Shall we race?" By the time colour and detail returned to the city skyline around them, The Blank was gone.
  22. Maintaining the stygian cloud, Midnight observed Dead Head's handiwork with detached analysis. Puppets? Different from him. Different from the one on the lawn? He didn't have time to consider the full implication just then. Waving a pair of gloved fingers forward once the undead hero's sickly glowing eyes turned his way, gesturing for silence and speed as he continued deeper into the cave, intent on tacking down his grandfather.

Jack looked Gaian Knight's stance up and down with an ill concealed wince. "Yeesh..." Next to him, Jill slugged her brother in the shoulder, casting a reprimanding look his way. "Be nice." "What?" he protested, rubbing his arm before turning back to the amateur swordslinger. "Alright, look, you're stance is kinda wonky, but the main thing is your grip. Hold it like it's a third section of your arm, see?"
  24. Trevor considered the undercarriage of the car. "Pretty low-slung; probably wouldn't fit with a skateboard." His toneless inflection made it tough to tell if he'd simply missed the humour in his words or if he was joking in his own way. "Anyway, if its 'purpose' wasn't to go fast, you'd have made it the Gecko-Mini Van," he pointed out. "Explains the extra equipment down here, though. Dynamic re-paneling?"

The surface of Jill thoughts was like well-oiled plate mail, guarded and concealing but jointed for flexibility. A heat permeated the armoured shell from within, but Eve couldn't sense any more without intruding deeper. "Wow," the taller girl stated flatly with a sympathetic grimace, "that is balls. Obviously." She didn't see any of the telltale signs she's associate with vocal chord trauma on the white haired girl, and her powers suggest a mental cause, which unfortunately fell outside of her own abilities. "Ah, yeah, I didn't exactly 'qualify' until pretty recently, but my brother pulled some strings to get me transferred."
