"Almost done; stay put," Midnight commanded the hidden students in a tone which failed almost entirely to be reassuring. Ducking back out of the illusion, he fired his grapple in the branched of the surrounding trees and dove downward, swinging toward the sound of fighting below. Stupid, stupid, stupid, he berated himself silently. If anything happened to the missing students, it would be on his head.

Like the flick of a switch, Midnight shut out the emotional side of his mind, which railed violently against it's prison bars as the cold analytical aspect of the teenager's personality took control. Stygian gas burst from the seams of his matte black costume, dragging the room into utter darkness in the span of time between heartbeats. A small cylinder capped with a dish all but leapt from his belt into his waiting hand. The concentrated sonic emitter had occurred to him after he'd seen how easily Erin had managed to navigate without relying on her sight, the part of him that wove strategies and counter-strategies like gossamer threads not caring for the distinction between friend and foe. As his wrist snapped upward to direct the device at the mind-controlled girl's image, caught in red relief through his specially treated glasses, however, the young man hesitated for the briefest fraction on an instant, an agonized look passing across his face beneath his featureless mask. Then, silent as smoke on water, he thumbed the mechanism to trigger a lance of high frequency white noise before slipping away into the concealing mist.

There were several beats of silence before any of James' guest spoke. Trevor considered the other young man's proposition with a carefully schooled expression. He made a compelling argument. Both the goal and the suggested methods appealed to the stoic teenager, who ran a hand slowly over the lower portion of his face, glancing over the gauge the reaction from Erin and Eve. Turning back to their host, he quirked a single eyebrow a fraction of a notch upward. "This thing has a vehicle bay for my bike?"

Lobbing another trio of smoke bombs into the center of the remaining group of invaders, Midnight took the opportunity to blend effortlessly into the surrounding foliage, becoming a mere flicker of a shadow across the verdant backdrop. Making his way swiftly to the hut Halo had disguised, he paused to check on his less capable classmates before looking for some sign of the remaining students. The black clad youth had a nagging feeling that if he didn't locate Kid Alchemy, Feline and Pixie as quickly as possible he was going to regret it.

Trevor looked about the ship, his lips setting in a thin line. Hell-Ion's ship did not bring back many pleasant memories, and its presence in their restored reality raised a number of troubling concerns. "You've not concerned about one of Lucas's hallucinations persisting?" he asked James brusquely before catching himself. The lanky youth gave the holographic blonde an abashed look. "No offense intended, Miss, ah, Persephone. Altered memories have largely faded; I apologize if I... don't live up to the example of 'Kid Midnight'." Speaking with someone more familiar with an alternate version of him was an odd sensation, to be sure.

Trevor had perked up subtly at the sound of the engine in Eve's sleek vehicle, and was walking over to it even before the diminutive French girl had parked it. After a slow walk about the vehicle, he dropped unceremoniously to the asphalt to peer at under it's front end. "Sixteen cylinders, ten radiators, excess of a thousand horsepower..." he murmured softly. The dark haired mechanic was not easily impressed when it came to automotive engineering, but the Bugatti Veyron was undoubtedly a work of art. The paint job didn't hurt his appreciation, either. Smoothly standing back up, he looked over to Eve, saying, by way of greeting and understatement, "That... is a very nice car."

"Hmm?" Oddly distracted, it took Trevor a moment to realize what John was talking about, recalling that the new student's namesake had boasted healing powers amongst his diverse repertoire. "The mist? It's fine; my tear ducts haven't worked for anything but that for years." Discovering that particular facet of his mutation had come at a particularly poor time in his adolescence, but the stoic youth had long since come to accept his nonstandard biology. Granted, that didn't explain why everything seemed so damnably bright as of late, but that hardly seemed like a problem John's Light would alleviate.

Midnight regarded the mumbling, trashing corpse with a mixture of wary caution and impatience. "Need more to go on," he demanded from Dead Head. The intense teenager was not uncaring toward their informant's obvious distress, but with his grandfather's life potentially hanging in the balance, he wasn't inclined to be particularly gentle. He wracked his mind for anything he might have heard recently involving underwater or shoreside caves.

Jill moved to stand next to where her brother was bemusedly rubbing his cheek and punched his hard in the shoulder. "Stop that," she demanded, pointing an accusatory finger at the elder sibling. "Hey, hold on, that wasn't my--" Jack protested, raising his hands in defense. His sister interrupted him with a snort. "Uh huh. On a sidenote: you did good, hermano," she added more gently. "So I did good and I should stop it?" Jack quirked an eyebrow. Jill shrugged. "Like you're not used to getting conflicting information from the women in your life?" "Point," the swordsman admitted with a lopsided smirk. "You brought my trunks, right?" "Yeah, in the backpack. I left it inside, c'mon." Giving Lynn and Bill a modicum of privacy, the siblings retreated inside.

Trevor gaze Mark a flat look, twin wisps of inky black smoke rising from behind his sunglasses. Pushing them up briefly to rub his eyes, the lanky youth sighed quietly before replacing them and turning to John. "I'm the second Midnight. Don't tell anyone." His tone was dry but carried a subtle weight behind it, and was as much directed at the improbably dressed Lucas as the new student. With that crisis circumvented, Trevor tilted his head toward the dormitories. "Liking it so far?"

[Interceptors] Zombie Powder is a Helluva Drug [IC]
Gizmo replied to Dr Archeville's topic in West End
"We got a 50/50 shot," Jack agreed, unconsciously leaning forward in his seat to spurn the MAVERIC onto greater speeds. "I still say there's a third player working behind the scenes here, but we can't afford to sit and puzzle it out now. Rojas it is." The fencer drummed his fingers impatiently on the vehicle's door, glad that they were at least attempting to take action. -
Back at the buffet table, Jack of all Blades blinked several times in bemusement even as he applauded Ace and Talya's routine. "I... think I just swallowed my gum," he murmured to nobody in particular, "and I wasn't chewing any gum." For all that the swashbuckler dealt with beings of unimaginable power on a regular basis, it was personalities like the two ageless adventurers before him that truly made Jack feel dwarfed. He was about to call out something pithy when the man with the wings took to the stage. As Hayzel began to sing, Jack stopped moving for a moment, and unconsciously moved his hand to grasp for the cross he hadn't worn around his neck on a thin silver chain since he was a in high school. Since his mother had... well. It had been a while, and the fencer turned away from the crowd for a moment as the hymn concluded.

Trevor gave Mike a vague salute with his coffee cup and returned Erin's brief smile. It wasn't much, but given the usual level of expressiveness either of them demonstrated, it remained significant. "Trevor," he introduced himself in reply to John, accepting the tanned student's hand. Trevor considered the smattering of reports he'd picked up about a new light controlling hero. "Connected to the original?"
-
Jack wandered over to Lynn and Bill, one hand holding his drink and the other in his pants pocket. "Well, if we're doing the gift thing now, I uh..." The fencer looked uncharacteristically embarrassed. "So, I sort of got the feeling that maybe you were still kinda upset about that whole thing at the charity boxing match, right, so I had a talk with Vince." Taking his hand from his pocket, he shrugged and rubbed the back of his head. "Got him to make with the computer stuff and delete all the videos people'd posted of it online. There might be back-ups somewhere or something, but it won't come up as the top results on search engines anymore. So. Yeah, happy birthday." It was about as close as either of his teammates had come to hearing a genuine apology from Jack.

While the rest of his body remained still, Jack's right arm snapped up to catch the kneeling speedster around the neck in a chokehold. With a groan, the fencer squeezed his eyes shut tighter, then opened them again, propping himself up on his left elbow. "This plan has a physicality to it which I am beginning to dislike," he muttered as his eyes adjusted to the light. Frowning, he looked over to his other arm in mild confusion. "...why am I choking Eli?"

"Mai'yoa," Trevor replied absently, pulling a trio of small cube shaped devices from his belt. Without preamble he threw them in a wide arc, landing in a semi circle around the tightly grouped invaders. The instant the cubes connected with the platforms upon which the village was built, they burst with jets of midnight mist, quickly surrounding the motley warriors with small, inky clouds. Midnight raised the cuff of his jacket to his mouth, and his words emerged from speakers built into the smoke bombs he'd just thrown. The microphone was wired into the same rosetta stone algorithm he'd used to translate the native's speech earlier. Triggering a button, he switched to another speaker, creating the illusion of being in multiple places at once. At his cue, his flat, chillingly emotionless voice came forth from the third cloud.

In the hallway outside the administration offices, a tall young man strode unhurriedly toward the group. As pale and dark haired as John was tanned and blond, Trevor Hunter wore slightly rumpled outfit of dark brown and blue, a large cup of coffee in one hand and a beaten black fedora pulled down over his forehead. As he tipped his head backward to take a long pull on the steaming beverage, the other students were able to see that Trevor had also donned a pair of sunglasses with broad, oval lenses. His free hand touching his left temple in concert with the briefest of winces, he nodded in greeting as he moved next to Erin, perhaps just slightly too close to be entirely inconspicuous. "New?" he asked in a soft, laconic voice.

One of Jack's eyes shut in a wince at Lynn's rampant antics. "Please tell me I'm not that bad," he groaned, punctuating the plea with an involuntary cough. It was obvious that she was trying to distract him - it was one of his own trademark tactics, after all - but knowing that didn't help the worn out fencer to keep ahead of the diminutive acrobat's unpredictable movements. Consequently Eli's well placed body blows caught him off guard, knocking the unbalanced swashbuckler off his feet, his head smacking loudly off of the Wreck Room's floor. "T'ld you guy y'c'ld do it..." he slurred before lying down for a brief nap.
