Jack winced involuntarily as the airship treated the Meta-Grue like a windshield treats a bug on the Interstate. "Thanks for the assist, goggles!" he called as he flipped gracefully back down to street level to stand above the alien menace. "This has just got to be an embarrassing day for you, huh? Seriously, I am never gonna stop telling this story." With an infuriating smirk, the swashbuckler battered the shrunken villain with a swift cross cut.

Jack drops down and makes a Power Attack 5 (1d20+12=28) If the Meta-Grue's Defense is still 20, that's enough for DC 31! That's probably enough to take Tiny out of the fight, but just in case... SURGE! Power Attack 5 (1d20+12=13) What? No. Re-roll SURGE! Power Attack 5 (1d20+12=24) Better. DC 29. Jack's either down to 1 or 2 HP, I'm not sure...

Cue the patented J'onn J'onzz recoil-in-telepathic-horror while muttering, "Its mind is so alien..."

Gossamer's hair flew forward like a blonde battering ram, smashing against the Broan's armor. Startled, he batted the mobile lock away with his staff. "This is madness!" he bellowed to his comrade."I told you we should never have followed them to this system!" "Your final mistake, friendkiller!" cried the alien woman in an oddly lilting accent as she gathered blue-white electricity around her. The air around her crackled with power, growing brighter and brighter until it was difficult to look at at. Without warning, she released the ball lightning at her closest foe, the effects exploding outward to encompass much of the clearing. The already battered Broan's howled in pain.

The Tempestian's ball lightning attack catches the two Broan's attacking her, the thee Atlas just slammed into the ship and the one who managed to save against the shockwave earlier. Reflex Save vs. DC 17 (1d20+5=10, 1d20+5=7, 1d20+5=14, 1d20+5=24, 1d20+5=13, 1d20+5=9) One of them makes the save to reduce his Toughness check. The two uninjured Broans: Toughness Save vs. DC 22 (1d20+8=9, 1d20+8=22) One staggered and stunned, one uninjured. The stunned and bruisedx2 Broan who got slammed into the ship: Toughness Save vs. DC 22 (1d20+6=20) Picks up a third bruise. The staggered, stunned and bruised Broan who made the reflex save: Toughness Save vs. DC 18 (1d20+7=18) Made his save. The staggered, stunned and bruised Broan who didn't make the reflex save: Toughness Save vs. DC 22 (1d20+7=12) That would be another staggered condition, so he's unconscious! Just 11 to go! The stunned Broan who previously saved against Atlas's shockwave: Toughness Save vs. DC 22 (1d20+8=11) Staggered and stunned again. 25 Tempestian Lady - uninjured 22 Arrowhawk - 1 HP - uninjured 16 Physicus - 0 HP - bruised 13 Jack of all Blades - 3 HP - uninjured 13 Broan Soldiers [*:2t7gvtdl]6 uninjured [*:2t7gvtdl]1 stunned and bruisedx3 [*:2t7gvtdl]3 staggered and stunned [*:2t7gvtdl]1 staggered, stunned and bruised [*:2t7gvtdl]1 unconscious 13 Atlas - 4 HP - uninjured 6 Gossamer - 0 HP - uninjured In retrospect, I may have made these guys a little tougher than I meant to. But that's okay! Now I know enough to make the real battle ever more awesome! :awesome:

Hey, you don't need to be able to follow the clues if you can just beat up the ghost and pull off his mask, right? Stupid question: did they look inside the big crate?
-
Phooey. I wish it was more clear where the line between "sense fine details" and "perceive specific details" was. Acute lets you distinguish between subjects, so he should be able to tell if her power is like something else, right? I mean, regular vision lets you tell if something is darker or lighter blue, even if you can't determine the exact hexcode for the shade. At the very least he should be able to confirm whether or not it's magic rather than another type of superpower. Sorry to carry on about it; I've never been entirely clear what Jack is and isn't allowed to pick up on with his energy awareness. I should probably just pick up Analytical and be done with it, but it seems to go against the interpretive, gut reaction I'm going for.

Are those both suppose to be Jestnut, Geez, or did you mean Jester-Prime showed up?
-
Y'know, I only meant it as a description of Erik's personality, but I think I basically just said he takes 20 on Intelligence checks whenever there's time. Or would thinking about stuff like that be a Wisdom check?
-
Haha, well, I wouldn't want to steal his act, anyway! I'm pretty sure Jack's personal timeline is a mess as far as that goes, but I'm not going to sweat it too much. He's just like a real comic book character! Superboy-Punch! Of course, if Jack finds out that James is the one who caused the Invasion! in the first place...

Toughness save vs. DC 25 (1d20+8=27) Boo, again. He makes the save. I'll get the IC up tomorrow.

Erik offered a Lynn a smirk. "That's pretty much what people are supposed to think. Half of the way I fight is getting my opponent to drop his guard for jut a split second. That said, I'm really not 'smart', so much," he admitted ruefully, rubbing the back of his head. "Not like my sister or anything. I just think things over a lot, given the time. If not..." The fencer shrugged. "That's what gut instincts are for, amirite?" Pausing, he raised a finger in dispute. "Also, I think you mean gorgeous butt. Don't worry about Bill getting jealous; he's seen it, he knows." Folding his hands behind his head, the acrobat expounded on his reasoning. "I was thinking about my powers, and how I should think more about choosing the right energy for the job. Same thing. There's more than enough muscle in Freedom, but if we applied it a little more strategically, it'd be a lot more effective." He sighed dejectedly. "Either way, I owe Mona an apology, so I might as well be the one to talk to her."

Jack was momentarily distracted from his examination by Colt's clothing dilemma. "Heh. 'Magic pants'," he grinned to himself. For some reason he found the idea hilarious. The swordsman leaned over the edge of the alley to call down to his teammates. "Hey, if you're gonna grab some kit off of Larry and Moe down there, grab Curly's sword for me while you're at it, huh?" He gestured vaguely about their surroundings with the rapier he'd constructed from their mysterious femme fatale's teleportation spell. "Not sure how easy it's gonna be to pick up a recharge around here if I have to drop my energy again."
-
Jack grunted around a grimace as he pushed his energy awareness to its limits. "Ugh. Kid, we gotta move now. Whatever took down those cops and went all Romero on these folks is in the backyard and it's just warming up." Standing, the fencer drew his lighter from his coat and flicked it open. It took only the work of a moment to form a fiery rapier in his outstretched hand. He turned to Breakdown, his face lit by the sword's flickering light. "Your cafeteria money says that the neighbourhood watch down there gets lively the minute we try something. Think you can cover me and buy me some time?"

Variable Powers means never having to say "I'm sorry!" Since the Interceptors are dealing with it over in Witch Doctor, I'm going to assume Jack's hellfire complication has been taken care of by this point. Fair enough?

Just remember, sugar cubes are a 'sometimes food'!

Ha, this really isn't Jack's thing. He'll use Skill Mastery for a 20 on the Notice Check. Search check (1d20=17)

Since it came up earlier, the Ani-Earth crew are anthropomorphic cartoon animals in the style of Darkwing Duck or Usagi Yojimbo. I'm taking a cue from the more recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles iterations and saying that they average closer to five feet tall than six... er, except for Foalcrum, who's evidently been eating her oats.

It's a good sense! Now, it's not analytical, but it is acute; I take it she was definitely using magic? Any specific type or an idea of her relative strength?

"Well, nertz," Jack groused once he was sure the woman he'd pursued to the roof was actually gone. "Teleported," he called down to the others. Releasing the gravimetric blade he's formed from Dark Star's power, the energy manipulator ran his fingers through the outline his metahuman senses found in the mysterious magic user's place. A minor application of will collected the wisps of power into a new sword, which the fencer examined for any clues as to the woman's nature.

[Interceptors] Zombie Powder is a Helluva Drug [IC]
Gizmo replied to Dr Archeville's topic in West End
"Well, now you know!" Jack replied flippantly. The swashbuckler has formed a sword from a sliver of Grim's glamour magic, reasoning that of his available choices it was the one to which the shambling masses outside were least likely to be resistant. The pale green blade shimmered, spiraling about lazily in his grip. "It's kind of poetic," he continued as he looked about for furniture to push against the doors and windows. "We were looking for drugs, we found zombies. It's like a metaphor, huh? A regular Interceptors After School Special." -
[Interceptors] Zombie Powder is a Helluva Drug [OOC]

By the same token, Jack's greatcoat is pretty thick and toasty, especially with the hidden armor and padding. That would give him 5 + 4 = 9; can you critical fail a save? Well, regardless: Fort Save vs. DC 10 (1d20+9=21) And Initiative (1d20+9=22) -
Alright, the threads are up here: Ani-Earth's Finest, OOC The God, The Baaad and the Nutty, OOC Mythological Creatures, OOC Yes, the intros are all the same. The gist is that the Ani-Earth heroes have arrived in Earth-Prime to bring back the Factor Fur, who are in Freedom City for their own nefarious purposes. To that end, Science Squid has given each of them a device which will home in on their respective human counterpart. The first part of each thread will be Ani-Earth heroes tracking down and meeting their Earth-Prime double. Then: fighting! I'll leave you to it.
