Set stumbled and hit the ground with a grunt as the shadowy talons that had been cutting into her bare arm abruptly dissipated. Muttering something rude under her breath the godling shielded her eyes against the preternaturally bright light with her uninjured forearm while even her divine vision took a moment to adjust. It took another beat for her to realize what Huang had just done. "Oh you magnificent idiot," she berated him, doing a poor job of keeping worry from creasing her voice. "I swear to myself, should you burn yourself out with your ridiculous mystical showboating I shall follow you down to the Underworld and throttle you myself." Squaring her shoulders and jutting out her chin despite the scrapes and bruises she called to the similarly regrouping goddess to her right. "Meanwhile, Lady of Slaughter, let us proceed with our own ridiculous mystical showboating, hm?" Sekhemt shook her head vigorously, growling dangerously and looking about for any remaining shadow creatures upon which to visit her wrath. Bristling with the knowledge that the fight had very clearly not been going in her favour she let out a brief snort before sparing a look in Ouroboros' direction. "...with haste, then." She quickly scanned the battlefield, visibly fighting her own instincts to dash directly into the thick of the fray. "Her," she decided quickly, pointing across the grass. "Strong arms and bold actions. A warrior born." "How unexpectedly poetic; we had best check you for cranial injuries once tis all resolved," Set suggested before cupping her hands around her mouth and shouting. "Oy! Angry bow fellow and punching girl! We shall take your evidenced desire to fight the very bad floaty man as implied consent, aye? Excellent! Try to think theologically neutral thoughts, please!" Folding her legs under her and sitting on the grass she extended both hands to Sekhmet who with a final grumble took them in her own and followed suit. In unison the Heliopolians closed their eyes and began concentrating.

"Maybe I understand Russian, you don't know," Erik grumbled under his breath, letting Dmitri have his conversation. He didn't need to be fluent to get the gist of what was being said; the draugr was an emotive speaker to say the least. Still, picking up some books on tape to get some basic phrases under his belt was starting to seem like a good idea. Once they were finished he let out a long breath with an expression that said he wanted to argue the point on selfishness but not just then. "You guys do tend to gang up some," the swordsman noted with a flat look in Frost's direction. Kneeling down he placed a hand gingerly on Talya's stomach. "Hey, no stabkicking your mum, yeah? Who do you think she's going to take it out on?"

There's been a long hiatus with this but in case anyone was confused this is still very much an open invitation! Pitch me your ideas, gentle readers!

Sekhmet is going to delay to act at the same time as Set but I'll still get an IC post up. Assuming it checks out and AA and alder are on board the idea is still to have the gods temporarily empower Woodsman and Nighthawk respectively so that they're better equipped to fight an Insubstantial enemy. They'll both stunt off of their respective Deific Arrays to bestow an equivalent number of PP in Enhanced Traits like so: Enhanced Traits (Extras: Affects Others [+0], Range [Perception, +2], Flaws: Action [Full-Round], Duration [Sustained]) [1PP/rank] Power of Set (34PP Container) Arrows of the Storm (23PP Array; Feats: Alternate Power 1) [24PP] Damage 6 (Lightning Bolt Arrow; Extras: Autofire, Ranged, Feats: Affects Insubstantial 2, Homing 1, Improved Critical 2) [23PP] Snare 6 (Sandstorm Arrow; Feats: Affects Insubstantial 2, Improved Critical 2, Obscure Senses 5 [All Senses], Reversible, Tether) [23PP] Super-Senses 7 (Shadow Eye; Visual; Extras: Counters Concealment, Counters Obscure [All]) [7PP] Luck Control 1 (Trickster's Luck; Force Re-Roll) [3PP] Power of Sekhmet (19PP Container) Enhanced Unarmed Damage 6 (Claw of Lioness, Fire of Ra; Extras: Penetrating 3, Feats: Affects Insubstantial 2, Incurable) [6PP] Protector of the Pride [13PP] Leaping 3 (Rank 4 Total, x25) [3PP] Speed 2 (Rank 3 Total, 50MPH) [2PP] Super-Movement 1 (Wall-Crawling 1) [2PP] Super-Senses 4 (Accurate Auditory [+2], Acute Olfactory, Low-Light Vision) [4PP] Super-Strength 1 (Effective Strength 35, Heavy Load 1.5 tons) [2PP] Along with appropriate temporary costume changes, of course!

"Yeah, yeah, of course," Erik responded quickly, doing an admirable job of looking nonchalant for a masked man with only his coat over the notable absence of his ruined shirt. When he actually met Talya's eyes he deflated noticeably, offering a small shrug. "Well, okay, I mean obviously not really. I get what the attitude's about, y'know." He glanced over to where Frost was standing before turning back to the blonde woman. "Bottom line, I'm a ticking time bomb for something like half of the people I care about, yeah? And you can never really tell with healing powers and regeneration, really and I think the new girl has a time thing going on or something? I wasn't really paying attention when she explained..." Catching himself beginning to ramble he instead placed a gloved hand over his eyes with a brief grumble. "Anyway. Nothing I didn't already know it just sucks to have somebody point out when you're being a selfish prick. Also I might still throw up from all the vampire planet magic." He dropped his hand and gave her a wan smile. "This is Ace's... thing, not trying to make it about me, honest. How're you holding up? Should we get one of the eggheads to check the twins?" The fencer's stepped a little closer, instinctively moving as thought to shield Talya's midsection with his own body.

"I could--" Ghost Girl began before stopping short and pressing her navy blue lips together into a thin line and looked down toward the back of Tarva's head with a furrowed brow. She'd remained standing - or rather floating - and where Miss Americana's manner had been perhaps a bit icy the poltergeist had been literally so, lowering the temperature by several degrees in a wide berth around her. In one way or another no one in the room had seemed particularly bothered by it and once the footage had begun to play she'd been far more concerned with her partner's reaction than shooting guarded looks at their opposite numbers across the table. She'd had time to come to a better understanding of the former Omegadrone's situation since their last meeting and for Sharl's sake if nothing else she wasn't planning on antagonizing the tech mogul but Kimber didn't like any aspect of the meeting. Letting out a long breath that was, strictly speaking, pure affectation on her part she placed a reassuring hand between Tarva's shoulders and continued. "I could tell you what killed them. If I were there." She gave Daedalus a cool look. "That's where this is going, right? They didn't need to physically come down here just to consult. But if you're sending anybody, you send me. Five minutes, in and out, I'll have your answers." She assumed that reliving whatever had happened on that blighted world wasn't going to be a picnic but if it meant keeping Tarva well and away from anything Terminus related she considered it a fair deal.

Alright! The reroll tags him, so: Kopesh Opposed Grapple Check: 1d20+15 22 He's tossed! The ranged attack misses Hooks but Kopesh still smacks into a pillar. I'm not even going to bother rolling it, he's knocked out of the fight. > 28 - Jack of all Blades - Uninjured, 5HP 25 - Butterfly - Bruised x1 19 - Hooks - Uninjured 19 - Shadows - Uninjured 11 - Willow - Bruised x1, 1HP

It's designed to all be done in one round! Initiating the grapple is a Standard Action but the Throw is actually just a Move Action as part of the grapple. Throw: You can pick up and throw your opponent like an inanimate object (see Throwing, page 36). The throw occurs as a move action as part of the grapple (grabbing, grappling, and throwing an opponent is a full-round action). So it just boils down to a melee attack roll, an opposed grapple check and a ranged attack throw. Even if you miss the target of the throw you're still tossing the first guy which is going to hurt when he lands - assuming the first two checks succeed, of course.

Basically three things: melee attack roll to initiate a grapple, opposed grapple check, then throwing him like an improvised weapon.

"Ooh!" Kimber turned about enough to kiss Tarva's jawline before extricating herself from the taller woman's arms. "This'll give you something to watch," she suggested sotto voce with a smile that was aiming for teasing but was a few shades too excited at the prospect of beach volleyball to pull it off. Raising her voice she called to her friend, "Indira, let's go! Original cheerful and stoic immigrant roommates versus version two point oh, eh?" Floating a few centimetres over the sand she sped over to the other side of the next across from Aquaria and Jessie before touching down with at least enough corporealness to leave footprints. The phantom didn't get much use out of physical exercise but she still enjoyed flexing her ectoplasmic equivalent of muscles in actual games when the opportunity arose. She also wasn't sorry for the excuse to move a little further away from the bonfire.

The Alkahest's head came up as the foul smelling cloud vanished, clumps of stringy hair tossed about as it swivelled from side to side trying to spot Prestige or in lieu of its original target some other immediate threat. The sound of Raptor's foot connecting with Nighthawk's chin caused the monster to whirl around, nostrils flaring. Without battlecry or preamble it crossed the distance in two stride, surprisingly quick for its size. Sofia sensed the attack coming a moment too late, nearly slipping out of the way before in one brutal movement the Alkahest delivered a full-body backhand with a limb large enough to catch her from her should halfway down to her waist. One moment the martial artist was standing over Robin and in the next there was nothing but empty air as she was knocked clean off of her feet and through the hole in the control room wall. She spun like a rag doll, already unconscious from the force of the impact, before crashing into the floor and skidding to a halt. Up above the Alkahest looked down at Nighthawk warily, eyes narrowed and torso heaving with laboured breathing but not yet moving to attack.

Winifred accepted the headphones with only a minor hesitation, looking them over and musing on what she could deduce of their construction before deciding that was an exploration for another day. Taking a moment to adjust them until they sat somewhat awkwardly atop her pinned up hair, she looked blankly on Rivera's extended explanation until he started the song. As soon as it began to play she sat bolt upright on the edge of Smith's bed, startled by the comprehensive illusion of instruments playing all about her, unlike the sounds she'd heard from phone speakers or the television set in the common room. When the heavy drums kicked in the Victorian ripped the headphones from her head and held them at arm's length, holding her breath reflexively. She stood stone still until the young man across from her moved to stop the track. "No," she insisted tersely, seeming shaken but showing none of the telltale signs that preceded a transformation. Cautiously she placed the headphones back onto her ears, brow furrowed with concentration for the rest of the track. Once it finished she slid them back far enough to better hear the room around her and met Matthew's eyes. "Again."

Alkahest Move Action: Demoralize Raptor: 1d20+7 22 Standard Action: Charge Raptor: 1d20+11 22 I have a feeling that's a miss, let me know if it's worth blowing an HP on a reroll. If it hits it's a DC 30 Toughness Save.

Next-Gen '16 Epiphany - Madison Tyler Madison isn't just training to be a hero, she was born to it. She's part of a long lineage of heroic magic users, among whom are counted monster hunters, respected sages and notable allies to the Master Mages. Her parents are both prominent members of the occult community in her native Chicago and she takes upholding that legacy very seriously. With an impressive control and range of abilities for her age and a confidence that lends itself well to leadership it seems that the family name could not be in better hands. Epiphany is not immune, however, to the lack of perspective that can come with youth. With her dedication comes a certainty of her own righteousness and being a hero requires villains. One of her cousins took part in the raid that sent Raina Sanderson's parents to prisons and appropriately appalled by what she's heard of their crimes she has decided that the rotten apple cannot fall far from the tree. Madison very much sees herself as the protagonist of her story and rallying her friends against their decidedly unheroic classmates as the first of her many good deeds to come. If that means bending a few rules, well, all the greatest heroes know which rules and meant to be bent. Ultimately a good person she is loyal to her friends and quick to oppose genuine injustice when she see it but her pride makes it difficult for her to reconsider her initial assessments of people or think in terms other than 'good' and 'evil'. Notable Appearances: Unstill Life, Final Exam, Maybe It's Alchemy Raptor - Sofia Torrez Though not strictly a metahuman Sofia is gifted in nearly every way a young woman might be: powerfully built, sharply intelligent, quick in both reflexes and wit. Her true strength, however, lies in her determination and hard work. Training with her parents - both non-powered heroes in Mexico City famous enough to be known across the border - she has already mastered multiple martial arts and developed a skill for reproducing moves after seeing them performed only once. Her willingness to help her classmates train has made her well liked and respected, albeit the cause of more than a few bruises. That respect means a lot to Raptor and she sees being the best even without powers as very nearly the whole of her identity. She was annoyed enough to be lumped in with the untrained and unpolished Robin Chevalier before the later realized she had superhuman abilities; afterward that feeling blossomed into true animosity toward the 'cheat'. Sofia would never complain about an unfair playing field out loud but she resents Nighthawk's accomplishments when she has had to work so hard just to keep up with her empowered peers. Pointing out that she doesn't seem to have a problem with other metahumans and is unusually focused on Robin is likely to be met only with gruff denials and a change in subject. As Madison is quick to point out there are other frauds to worry about amongst the student body and Sofia refuses to be distracted from her training. Should an opportunity to prove that she's the best present itself, however, she won't turn it down. Greatness is earned through focus and bold action, after all. Notable Appearances: Unstill Life, Final Exam, The In Crowd Prestige - Celeste le Faye To say that Celeste is a cipher would be an understatement. Asked more than once about the origin of her her pointed ears, ephemeral butterfly-like wings and gleaming black, pupil free eyes she'll give a different explanation each time. A persistent rumour around the Academy has it that le Faye isn't even her real name but given her unerring aim with a bow, talent for mystical 'suggestion' and undeniable good looks the general consensus is that she can call herself whatever she likes. Cool and confident, she dominates any interaction. While only the Headmistress seems to know the specifics of Prestige's past it most certainly involved the fae and as a result the girl has difficulty empathizing with her peers. Instead she has learned to fake her way through the pitfalls of high school life and done so with aplomb. Her social manipulations and calculated micro-aggressions are a defence mechanism as much as anything, though she finds she does enjoy the attention. Cultivating an air of mercurial mystery has helped, as has following Madison's lead; knowing who needs to look bad is an easy way to look good. While not actively malicious Celeste has trouble gauging the appropriate intensity of any response, giving her a reputation as an ice queen during sparring classes. She uses her friends' reactions to gauge herself which can be dangerous when their own judgement may be skewed. Genuinely desiring to be a good person she is unusually attentive during Ethics class but quickly falls back into bad habits when confronted, focusing on whomsoever she perceives to be the most vulnerable in a group. Notable Appearances: Unstill Life, Final Exam, Maybe It's Alchemy Slide - Faiza Saeed Faiza is the best big sister her classmates never had. The first metahuman in a large British Pakistani family she initially struggled to control her friction controlling abilities. Her community rallied around her and proudly sent her off to the Academy when she'd announced her plans to put her gifts to use as a hero. After an adjustment period getting used to dormitory life she quickly endeared herself to the other students with her warm but firm manner, ensuring that they were eating well and not pushing themselves too hard; looking after Sofia alone turned out to be a full time job. Slide is by no means unaware of the looks her hijab gets or the misgivings many seems to have about metahumans but has decided the best strategy is to give those with prejudices no excuses, only proof that they are wrong. This is why she finds those among her peers who flout the rules or can't be bothered to learn to use their abilities safely so frustrating. Take Cathy Clouston, who offers apologies even as she freezes every room she walks into as if her actions didn't reflect on all natural born metahumans. Faiza knows that's unkind and she tries to be patient but she can't shake the feeling that these 'problem children' just need to try harder, for all of their sakes. While she may indulge in a bit of gossip and complaining, Faiza is less likely than her circle of friends to think their more wayward classmates need to be punished or put in their place. She's something of a pacifist at heart and strongly believes in the basic good and dignity in all people... she just wishes some of them would find that good a little more quickly. At the same time she very much values being part of a group and would be reluctant to speak out against her friends unless she thought they were seriously considering crossing a line. Notable Appearances: Unstill Life, The In Crowd

In front of Min Erik turned his focus to the musclebound juggernaut of their adversaries. If she had been his only opponent the swashbuckler might have been content to dance about her for some time, letting her wear herself out but harried and outnumbered he didn't want to risk a lucky hit from those dagger-tipped fists. With a sharp, taunting whistle he drew the katar wielder's attention the surged to the left and into a powerful leap. Spinning in the air he planted his free hand on the behemoth's shoulder and vaulted behind her. The strike he landed with his flaming sword had no time for delicacy, the energy slicing through combat armour and unnaturally thick hide alike. Lips pressed into a thin line, Jack of all Blades willed the sword to diffuse just enough that it didn't draw blood, instead leaving a darkened scorch mark where the heat alone had done its work. Grunting, the strongest of the group toppled to her knees before collapsing face first to the floor. "NO!" the six armed teenager cried out, face contorted in fury. As Jack rose from his crouch she pressed the momentary advantage, her half-dozen butterfly swords creating a whirlwind of merciless steel between them. He slid back a step, momentarily surprised by the skill with which she coordinated so many attacks. A half-step to the right avoided one strike, his sword parried two more but the next caught the flat of his shoulder, pushing him off balance enough for a crossing slash across his chest. Jack reeled backward with a strangled note of disbelief only to abruptly throw himself forward into a somersault. A fraction of an instant later the shadow wreathed fifth attacker reappeared out of nowhere, striking lightning quick with something thin and metallic that was quickly drawn back into the darkness. "How...?" the indistinct figure questioned, moving in a wide arc toward its ally, voice distorted and gravelly. "You couldn't have sensed me." Springing back up to his feet closed to the collapsed entranceway so that all of the swordsmen were now between himself and Willow Jack managed a cocky smirk. "Couldn't have, huh? Guess I must just be magic." Inwardly his thoughts were darker. He hadn't sensed a thing, at least not with his metamagi awareness of energies and magics. Either the shadowy fighter was something else entirely or adequately cloaked against his own abilities. Neither option was particularly comforting. Only his mundane combat experience had saved him from what would have been a strike right through the heart, a change in the air the caused the hairs on the back of his neck to stand on end. He wasn't sure he'd be able to replicate the feat.

Electricity sparked violently where Willow's knee connected with her attacker's face, released along with a spurt of blood as the kopesh wielder stumbled backward and landed awkwardly on the hall's weathered stones. Where that blood fell it was thicker than it should have been, a viscous red-black laced with oil-slick splotches of virulent green. The dryad's intention to stand firm in place was apparently lost on the swinging loudmouth with the hook swords who launched himself from a pillar to take a swipe at her with his free blade before arcing back out of reach. She felt the blow but remained undaunted, her own convictions outweighing whatever grievances this group from the House of Swords imagined themselves to have.

"In the ducts? Uuugh, I am too tired for a freaky one," Ellie complained, rubbing one eye with the heel of a palm. Despite her grievances she gave Mara a wan smile bumped her hip lightly. "Nice work. Let's go catch a creepy crawly." After briefly opening the door just enough to make sure nobody was in view she stepped out into the hallway before waiting to let the engineer lead the way indicated by the drones. It wasn't much of a surprise that the path of their quarry brought them back toward the long term care rooms where they'd first encountered it. They beat it to the coma patient's room by just a few moments, giving the attending nurse enough time to open her mouth with a question before she was interrupted by the grating on the wall rattling. "Remember, no powers if we can help it," Ellie reminded Mara under her breath, taking up a position between the vent and the bed, jaw set resolutely.
