LaMarr seemed to relax slightly as the boy's response, shaking his hand in return. The information he'd gotten from Claremont when they'd asked him to meet with Riley had been characteristically full of gaps. He knew the wiry teen had had an unusual upbringing but in context that could have meant anything from a mountain-dwelling death cult to an alien planet. Some of it he could fill in for himself from experience but he hadn't been sure how to feel about the file matter-of-factly outing the student in plain black and white text. Maybe it came from living through the Moore era but there were some things the aging hero didn't think needed to be spelled out for anyone who might go looking and he wasn't going to trust a form about how somebody liked to be called. Given Riley's frankness, however, it sounded like the kid was a lot more comfortable in his own skin than LaMarr had been at that age. "Different for everyone anyway," he opined with a slight shrug which, on his broad shoulders, looked like it could have thrown a grown man flying. "Your teachers made it sound like you might have some questions about that? Heard a bit about the first roommate they set you up with, you had trouble from any other jokers?"

"Three, if we're diluting blame anyway," Erik quipped, making an exaggerated show of rolling his shoulder and cracking his neck as the room was filled with a variety of hostile locals. Doing a quick headcount he snorted. "Hold off like three dozen chuckleheads between them for a few minutes? Feel free to sit this one out, Ace; you look a little rusty." He let out a single long breath as he turned to the closest group of figures, evidently the quickest responders among the guards. The smirk that slid onto his face was feral, all bared teeth and dismissive confidence. "We're honestly doing you a favour taking this guys off your hands," he called brashly an instant before he exploded forward like a coiled spring. "Probably not going to feel like it, though!" As one foot pushed off of the tile floor deep purple flame just a shade away from ultraviolet roared down his arm from his shoulder to engulf his fist. As his arm drew back the vicious magics surged along a curving path, solidifying into a broad blade that hooked backward to extend its cutting edge. With so much power of such distinct character so readily available the flickering sword took on a polished sheen, crystalline flames forming a spiked hand guard and ornate pommel. Then he was upon his targets, a whirling blur of violet and royal blue. A beat later he stood with one boot atop a pile of five vampires, beckoning their comrades to come try their own luck.

Jack of all Blades Free Action: Form sword with 'necromantic' and 'magic' descriptors. Move Action: Close with the Royal Guards Standard Action: Take 10, Power Attack 5. "Merely a moderate level of 'crazy' I should think," Winifred replied to the pharmacist off-handedly while she bustled about the equipment behind the counter, rifling through supplies and making substitutions where necessary. "You live in a city with any number of individuals capable of flight under their own power, sir. Have some perspective." A note of irritation crept into her voice and she silently counted backward from ten as she worked. There was no time to calm herself properly, not with so many outside in need of treatment. "And do put down that firearm. Your agitation is making me agitated and an agitated alchemist is a sloppy alchemist, hm? Brilliant." Setting a machine to mixing the prim teenager took a moment to look up and observe the serious looking woman with the auburn hair who had come to her aid earlier. She hadn't let Winifred too far out of sight since, apparently appointing herself a temporary bodyguard while the slighter girl worked. "Ah, I haven't had an opportunity to thank you," she called. "A brawl between myself and that armoured fellow would have gone poorly." She didn't elaborate on the specific way in which it would have gone poorly; it didn't seem the time to get into all of that. "Winifred Wei, though perhaps I ought to give my name as 'Reagent' in this context. Pleased to meet you."

One gloved hand pressing into the bridge of his nose, Erik made a rough sound through gritted teeth as he forced himself to focus. "Dios, it's like the taste of high pitched evil laugh being injected into my eyeballs. Hnngh. Count again, Corncob." He lowered his hand, revealing slightly dilated pupils but otherwise he seemed to have regained most of his equilibrium for the moment. He cast a significant look toward the Englishwoman, brow creased. "Talya should not be here right now. We need to get home so Min can kill me for not talking you out of this." He hadn't really worried much about what combination of powers the twin may or may not be inheriting but if they had any element of his mystic sensitivity... He gave Talya a faltering smile that failed to be as reassuring as he wanted. "You can tell I'm worried 'cause I'm not even contributing to the legs and ass conversation. Ask me again later; I'm sure I'll have opinions." Jogging over to the unlocked vault he called to Ace, "For the record I'm kinda mad at you too but this seems like a 'get in line' situation. What are we bringing?"

The clipped footfalls that announced Winifred's arrival were largely drowned out by Raina's complaints, giving the alchemist a moment to stand in the doorway and look about the room before entering. "Only the most favoured of students tonight, I see," the alchemist observed dryly, pulling her bandolier of flasks from her saddlebag before dropping in near the witch's backpack. Looping the leather over one shoulder she carefully rearranged the lines of her long white coat despite suspecting that her appearance was about to be thrown into disarray regardless. "Perhaps they have decided to forego announcing new disciplinary action going forward in the interests of saving time." There was a distinct note of tension in her voice that belied her straight-backed posture. The exercises she was assigned in the appropriately named Doom Room tended to be more focused on her disagreeable alter ego despite her protests.
-
"I weep for their combined misfortune. Sir," Winifred replied flatly, the pause before she added the honorific long enough to be clearly deliberate. The alchemist had fallen back a step once they'd left the elevator, just enough to stand rather pointedly shoulder to shoulder with Phaedra, at least as close to shoulder to shoulder as their respective heights allowed. "We were led to believe, Doctor, that the purpose of this tour was to familiarize us with some of the local history we had missed while benefiting from the perspective that came with your experiences outside conventional science. The Academy faculty have proven to be perhaps overly fond of testing students' composure, however and if this is to be another exercise in that vein I believe both Miss Morningstar and I are equipped to find better uses for our time." The ultimatum was delivered in a prim, even tone but the effect was somewhat diminished by the way her eyes flicked away from the Russian to various exhibits in the room, curiosity at war with indignation.

The mountain of a man who approached the survivalist's bench gave the impression that Earth-Prime had decided to put his added muscle mass into perspective. The sleeves of his canary yellow dress shirt were rolled up to the elbows in concession to the rising temperature, exposing forearms as thick as Riley's thighs, and the matching slate grey vest and slacks seemed like must have been custom tailored or at least from some sort of speciality shop. Nearly opaque sunglasses hid any crows feet but the streaks of grey in his voluminous beard spoke of age, begging the question of what the man must have looked like in his prime. "Riley? Keith LaMarr," he introduced himself in a reverberating bass once he'd gotten closer, arms folded across his broad chest. It was the sort of voice that was felt almost as much as it was heard, raw power layered with the authority of a teacher or elder statesman. Which made the very slight hesitation as he looked the teen up and down once seem even more out of place. "They said you prefer Riley? There anything else you like to be called instead?"

"He probably just wanted to use the word 'mistress'," Kimber theorized, turning around as she walked to give Dimitri an amused if pointed look. She continued to coast forward as she turned and it became clear that she wasn't really walking so much as floating slightly above the castle floor and gradually rising. "And don't listen to him about the fashion thing, either! It was much more about tearing asunder the laws of gods and nature to bring forth an implement of soul-rending blasphemy," the poltergeist laughed brightly, lacing her fingers behind her head. The colour had begun to leech from her face and before long her entire form, clothes and all, was rendered in varied shades of icy blue and faintly translucent at that. "It's so nice to have guests. The kitchen is this way, I've been baking! I made a pineapple upside-down cake! I think. I couldn't actually taste to test it. I made waffles and cookies, too, in case it's terrible." She was more horizontal than vertical by then, reclining as she floated backwards to simultaneously face them and lead the way. "The oven's still hot, Uncle, you can have that. So tell me about surfing! That sounds super fun!"

Erik briefly considered slipping in the shadows alongside Talya but with all the necromantic energy in the air egging him on he doubted he'd be able to stay still for long, even assuming everybody in Vampire Land didn't have amazing night vision in the first place. Instead he cracked his neck audibly and followed after Dimitri with long, sure stride. "Hey, how's it going." His greatcoat kicked out behind him in dramatic fashion and his movements conveyed predatory grace. "Don't worry about him, we've been crashing parties all over the place all damn night and honestly I didn't really want to go to begin with. Nice pants." Looking back out from the dias he gestured with a thumb. "There's probably a really great story here and all but what I want to know is if the groupies out there are with you or if I get to stab something. Have to." He shook his head roughly and ran his tongue over the front of his top set of teeth. "Have to stab something. Man, that's a lot of magic, huh? Hoo!"

"I'm sure there's a joke there regarding my periodic bouts of metamorphosis but I'll spare us all having to sit through it," Winifred drawled, absently running her fingers over one ear to ensure that her hair was still in place. "It's less ignorance of the music itself that's troublesome than not knowing the context. A person's choice in entertainment ought to reveal much of their character but all of that is largely hidden to me. I'm sure the piece you were practicing earlier should have told me something terribly revealing and yet." With a sight she made a gesture that suggested something going up in smoke and drifting away. Her tone remained dry but her shoulders dropped very slightly at the admission. She looked away for a moment, lips pressed into a thin line with thought before she added, "Not to... impose but would you have any suggestions for where to start? I feel as though a basic working knowledge of modern music might make me... more approachable? Better able to converse normally, at least." She cleared her throat and pulled her posture back into perfect alignment. "Should you have the time, of course. I realize I'm already interrupting."

"I guess so," Erik agreed with a note of hesitation in his voice as he tried to discern whether or not Talya was just being accommodating or not. He certainly preferred to have his weapon of choice close at hand but in his case it would have been difficult not to. "We can stick in in the lockup with the training equipment for now," he suggested as he stepped into the back of the truck and deposited the boxes he was carrying. "It'll be fine there until we can figure out a better spot, yeah?" "Look at you, talking through your problems like some sort of adult," Gina drawled as she rolled up to the back of the vehicle and lifted the box sitting on her lap up for her son to take. Grumbling, he crouched to take it and stack it with the rest. Within a few trips the condensed contents of the apartment had been slotted neatly into the truck and secured for transport. Pulling down the sliding door Erik turned to Talya, glancing back the way they'd come. "Ready?"

Winifred gave the back of their escort's head a flat look at his recited proverb but said nothing in favour of concentrating on the building they were walking through. While Phaedra might have been exaggerating about the captivating sights on the way there - once the difference is scale and architecture had lost some of its novelty for her buildings had resumed just being buildings - Freedom Hall was a place that even locals spoke of with some amount of reverence and she didn't want to miss anything. When Frost made reference to Phaedra's file, however, her back went from posture perfectly straight to absolutely rigid. Even when it quickly became clear that he had been making a joke the alchemist shot a less than subtle look in the other girl's direction, trying to gauge how she was taking it. "The Russian sense of humour has changed little enough, I see."

The elevator's ascent was whisper quiet and only a slight lurch as they began upward and the rapid change in the number displayed on the glossy screen above the buttons suggested they were moving at all. There was a pause half a heartbeat long between reaching the top floor and the doors opening. Though Dimitri didn't spot anything definitive the Freedom League suspected that the building had been equipped with security measures from off-world, probably Furion in origin. Renarde Bleue had been characteristically tight lipped on the subject. Less reticent was the beaming brunette who greeted them as the doors opened. "Uncle!" The sleeves of the black peasant blouse tucked into her high waisted jeans billowed in a breeze that wasn't really there as she raised both arms into the air. Kimber turned to the new face with an even larger smile, skipping forward a step. "You must be Leilani! Come on in!" The entranceway behind her was all stone walls and stately tile floors but she waved them forward as though she were inviting them into a cosy foyer. "Was the drive alright? He didn't make you ride in one of those awful things from the motorpool, did he?"

An inarticulate sound like grinding gravel escaped from Erik as they arrived, cords standing out on his neck. The strain of their arrival was one thing; he could piece enough together from what his senses were screaming at him to understand that some other spellcraft was working against Frost's and trying to keep them out. The miasma of necromantic energy that hung in air of this world, however, burned at his nerve endings like being doused in ice water then handed a live wire. At first he had only enough focus to instinctively reach for Talya but the moment he found his footing his eyes were darting about, looking for immediate threats. "Company," he murmured to the Englishwoman, only dimly aware of conversation their interdimensional chauffeur was having with the locals, his nostrils flaring very slightly. There were figures moving about them, slipping about very nearly unseen in the twilight shadows, wearing matching outfits that read to him as uniforms. A familiar one, at that. Look something like Faretti and the kid, he thought but the magic pounding in his ears made it hard to draw conclusions from that. He could feel it twining about his fingers, practically asking him to draw a blade. It wanted to cut, to inflict. Pulse racing he thought that it might get the chance.

Crossing one leg over the other primly Winifred pursed her lips. "Setting aside whether you do him an unkindness," she chided the hounds, "I would not be nearly so confident that Smith can be made to follow the rules of this or any other world." She couldn't pretend to know exactly what the odd beasts were or why they were secure in their own immortality. Certainly she intended to make much closer observations of them going forward if only to return the favour after that bit of scrutiny. She thought she knew the temperamental survivalist reasonably well by then, however, and suspected that if there were things he could not find a way to kill there were very few things he could not make regret crossing him. Sighing, she raised one hand briefly in a small wave. "That's between you, of course and I don't mean to be a busybody. You asked about the music I enjoyed before all of this but I never asked in return. I'll admit I haven't set aside much time to acquaint myself with the current styles."

"It's been the better part of a year, I have seen your telephones," Winifred assured him with a cough, glancing to one side at his frank phrasing. It wasn't as though she didn't understand the desire to increase one's standing and become a more attractive partner but she couldn't recall ever being alone in a boy's room - save for canine companions - while he aspired to 'get all the girls'. Forging ahead she added, "Granted, I still can't afford to purchase clothes for myself let alone luxury devices so we may find solidarity in our scruffy destitution." The first part of that was a bit of a stretch given her fastidious attention to personal grooming but the declaration of poverty was certainly true. The alchemist hesitated, glancing toward the door. She'd dropped off the supplies she'd promised Smith and she wasn't thrilled by the prospect of giving the students who'd seen her enter the room another subject to whisper about behind her back but within earshot if she stayed much longer. That line of thought quickly ended with a choice bit of profanity for the gossipmongers that she wasn't likely to voice aloud. There were, after all, any number of unpleasant stories about her circulating but only a handful of people at the Academy willing to have an actual conversation with her without acting like they were handling reactive chemicals without safety equipment. She took a seat on the foot of the other bed and gave the last hound to speak a skeptical look. "Smith also never mentioned your ability to speak. Given his attitudes toward unnatural beasts one might question the wisdom of toying with him."

DJ, look at any other character sheet on the site to see how you're expected to submit one or better yet review the Player Guide. A downloadable attachment is not the way to go. You might also be better served by posting in the Character Building section of the forum first if you think you've made mistakes. That's the area for advice and feedback; the Character Bank is more finished, polished character sheets.

"Wax...?" Winifred questioned with a frown and quizzical look. It took a moment's consideration of the context to puzzle out roughly what the dark haired boy was talking about. "That was a form of automated music? After my time, then, so far as I know." It was an odd thing not just to be behind the latest events and advancements but to be so far behind as to have skipped over significant intermediary steps entirely. "I don't recognize that song either. I suppose he would have continued to pen music, assuming we're even talking about the same Wagner." Her shoulders had fallen forward slightly as she'd begun musing aloud and her back straightened abruptly as politeness reasserted itself as a priority. "Ah, it sounded quite good, though? Smith never mentioned you played an instrument. I'd imagine that makes you quite popular with the-- uhm." She managed to course correct the phrasing of the sentiment at the last moment though not as smoothly as she might have liked. "...other... students?"

The emotions Eve sent over their telepathic link were returned just as strongly. Becky's cheek grew warm against the smaller woman's neck as that rush of thoughts and feelings took on a decidedly less chaste tenor. With one hand under Eve's left knee and the other lifting her backside the Canadian heroine carried her over toward the simulated fur laid out in front of the cabin's merrily crackling fire. Teeth gently raking up a slender neck to catch lightly on an earlobe, she let her voice fall to a throaty whisper. "Show me." It was some time later before the pair were free to continue with their tour of the facility, starting with the adjacent locker rooms and its surprisingly spacious showers. Elsewhere, the Cosmic Constable suggested politely but firmly that Coyote reschedule his planned training routine and Canadian Shield doggedly focused on pretending to have no idea about any of it.

Winifred went rigid for a moment as the hound spoke, back perfectly straight and gaze intense. She looked briefly for signs of some sort of legerdemain but after what she'd seen about the Academy already it ultimately seemed a reasonable thing to take a face value. "That is a terribly clever trick, dear hound but poor manners does that cleverness a disservice," she chided primly, straightening her long white coat over the unflattering, bulk-bought blouse that came from the wardrobe the Academy provided. Privately she congratulated herself on neither lobbing a smoke grenade at the talking beast nor transforming into a twisted mass of personified fight instinct. "As for music, I suppose there was quite a lot of talk about Herr Wagner in the months before I... hmm. He was staying London for the purpose of conducting a series of concerts, you see. I doubt I would have had opportunity to attend even had things gone differently, though." She considered thoughtfully for a moment before continuing. "Mostly we enjoyed parlour music, of course." She gestured to Rivera's guitar by way of example. "Listening from adjacent rooms more than playing, in my case. Never devoted the time to be more than a middling pianist."
