Wildcard Move Action: Taunt Echo: 1d20+13 23 Standard Action: Initiate Grapple vs Echo: 1d20+10 27 Opposed Grapple Check: 1d20+15 18 Hit me with rolls against the Taunt and the Grapple check, Bluefish!
  2. Erik moved to one side to let Min through carrying Mia which forced Ellie to shift to her left as well toward the countertop and with Steve filling vacated space with his considerable bulk there was not precious little chance of anyone slipping out of the crowded kitchen or getting any actual cooking done. Evidently sensing the uncomfortable jostling or perhaps the tension in the air the youngest Espadas child stirred in Min's arms and began reaching upward toward the dryad's face. "Mmh! Mah!" Slipping about the adults, Yolanda dutifully presented Steve with his drink before finding a spot between the kitchen table and the wall left by moving the chairs out into the living room. She'd dropped all pretence of not being fascinated by the interplay around her but did periodically shoot furtive glances toward Mara and Ellie as though worried she would somehow be in trouble or miss a cue. Eden had decided she wanted to get down from Ellie's arms as quickly as she'd decided she wanted to go up and after examining the faint splotches on the tile where the potatoes had hit the floor with an intent interest she found her way to Min and Talya's feet. Planting her hands on her hips she titled her head up to look at her little sister and pedantically explain, "Mama, Mia! Say Mama!" Clearing his throat loudly as if that would somehow distract his mother from giving the affectionate women a slightly confused and increasingly suspicious look, Erik answered Steve, "Uh, no! No, I think everything is totally fine, yeah." He tried to switch positions again but there really wasn't enough room left for anyone to stand comfortably unless he asked Buffy to stand on the ceiling instead. "Bread looks good!" he told the college student a little too enthusiastically, hoping against hope that drawing attention to the guests in their family home would somehow relieve the worst of the loudly unspoken judgement. "You get introduced to everybody yet? You met Miss A at the thing with the dinosaurs anyway, I guess, hah..." Mia gave her sibling a peevish look and twisted in Min's arm to turn away, choosing to focus her attention in the opposite direction, toward Talya. "Muh! Mmuh!" A chubby hand caught the fabric of the Englishwoman's dress and the infant made a less articulate sound of relief and contentment. With her arms free Ellie slid half a step toward the middle of the room to loop an arm around Mara's waist. The gesture would have seemed sweeter if she hadn't also subtly begun tugging her girlfriend back toward the countertop and out of the line of sight between Gina and Talya. "Sounded like dinner's pretty much ready, though, yeah?" she asked pointedly, directing the question toward her mother and ignoring the evident setback with the sweet potatoes. "Can probably get everybody back out to the table, figure out where we're all sitting?" The suggestion got her brother's immediate support but multiple people trying to moved at once only succeeded in more bumping into each other, nearly knocking the glass out of Steve's hands as Erik failed to convey the urgency of the situation to him with intensity of eye contact alone. Completely unbothered by all the activity Eden remained focused on her dictation lesson. "No, Mia! Mum!" she demonstrated clearly, pointing to Min and Talya in turn. "Mama. Mum." "Muh!" Mia insisted in the silence that immediately followed, butting her head into Talya's arm, demanding that someone stop her sister from correcting her. "...aw, nertz," Erik groaned very softly, putting one hand to his eyes and rubbing the bridge of his nose. With a careful calm that was entirely more worrisome than a larger reaction would have been Gina merely asked, "What."
  3. In the dark of night with the wind whipping about with its bone-deep chill Kimber didn't look more solid so much as she radiated the distinct impression of being more real. Her edges were crisp and defined, rendered in a higher fidelity than the rest of the mundane world around her as she balanced her scythe over one shoulder and tilted her head to the side as Wraith laid out plans of attack. "Better to stick together for now, I think," she offered, sniffing the air contemplatively. "This place really is a big, stinky powder keg of fear. We don't really know enough about what's going on to try anything fancy, right?" She didn't bother elaborating that she was still a little embarrassed that most of the bank robbers had gotten away when she'd gone ahead by herself earlier or that she had her own personal reasons for not wanting to split up while Tarva was joining them that night. She also hadn't felt the need to interrupt the witch's mediations on the plane or try to resume their conversation about the motivations behind the excursion. She might not have like silence but since the ritual in Jotunheim she could tolerate it well enough. "Your call, boss lady." She looked at Eve expectantly, waiting for instructions.

    Time Out [OOC]

I'll say she can do all of that with two move actions, sure, go for it!
  5. "More like reliable," Erik exhaled with a faint chuckle as Min joined the embrace without prompting and broke some of the tension. He exchanged a look with Talya as though silently debating which one of them would break the news. Having accurately predicted Min's reaction he found he felt less apprehensive and more sheepish about the whole thing. "Well, see, remember how we were talking about donating some of Eden's hand-me-downs that Mia's outgrown?" he began slowly, shrugging slightly for effect amidst the tangle of arms. "Talya's thinking we should maybe hang onto those."
  6. "Exactly, we shou-- sorry, what?" Kimber's attempt at placation was derailed by the unexpected suggestion. "Well, that... does make sense, yes. Can you, ah, we'll be right back, two minutes, really." She tilted her head not-so-subtly to one side and drifted off into one corner of the bank, away from the other heroines and the police taken statements from shaken hostages; it hadn't been the most reassuring rescue, admittedly. Waiting until Tarva had followed after her she made sure she was floating high enough off of the tile floor to look the taller woman in the eyes. "Sorry, sorry, I wasn't trying to embarrass you," she apologized, scythe hanging loosely at one side while her empty hand crossed her stomach to wrap around her opposite arm. "You're right, you're probably our best chance for this specific brand of spooky but you've always had some pretty specific things to say about picking fights with primordial beings, liquorice whip. You already earned a gold star for heroing today if this is about earning your keep again." She was keeping her tone level and reasonable but they both knew that Tarva wasn't nearly so impervious to harm as Indira or Kimber herself, something the shadow witch's manifold fears underlined for her. Especially if they were going to be fighting dark mages versed in tricks similar to those Tarva used to protect herself the unexpected shift from self-preservation to altruism was dredging up some specific fears of the ghost's own.

    Time Out

Wildcard toppled forward as the fireball hit, sent sprawling by him own surprise more than the mass of the flaming projectile. Echo sense a spike of the unsettling twisting sensation that had surrounded the jester themed villain for the entire fight but this time it came too late to be effective, leaving the back of his costume scorched and one of his cap's three tails lit up like a candle wick. "There is somebody up there!" Downtime growled, sounding more annoyed by the interruption than overly concerned with his partner's wellbeing. Putting a hand to his belt he winked out of view once again, only the violently flung front door to the school indicating where he'd gone. In the apartments upstairs Raina heard the doors at either end of the stairwell slam against walls in much quicker succession than should have been possible followed by jackhammer pounding on the front door. Despite her quivering lower lip Eden busied herself making reassuring noises for her littler sister's benefit but even the three year old could tell that they only had moments before the door was knocked off of its hinges by the temporally accelerated assault.
  9. Sure, that's a result of 30 for Stealth with Skill Mastery. Gadget Configuration - Infiltration Wetsuit Concealment 2 (Infravision; Feats: Close Range) [5PP] Immunity 3 (Environmental Condition 2 [cold, high pressure], Suffocation 1 [underwater]) [3PP] Swimming 1 (2.5MPH / 25' per Move Action; Feats: Environmental Adaptation [aquatic]) [2PP] I'll leave the remaining 10PP unassigned for now!
  10. "You should see if they can set you up with invisibility and intangibility," Kimber suggested with a broad grin, lacing her fingers under her chin and letting her feet rise higher behind her until it looked like she was lying on an unseen mattress around eye level for the more gravity-bound in the conversation. "The be~e~est!" she singsonged before rolling over onto her back, regarding Sharl upside-down. "If you say so. If you're asking the dead gal, though, take all the life you can get, wherever you can get it. Who says you can only be one thing or from one place, eh?"
  11. Erik was on his feet immediately, almost bowling Talya over into the coffee table and the sizeable bowl of nachos as he wrapped his arms tightly around where he knew her waist ought to still be despite her invisibility. "Oh no. Definitely none of that, with the running and the jumping out the window and everything," he admonished, the words somewhat muffled as he pressed his face into the top of her head. He was close enough that she could feel his pounding heartbeat, racing faster than normal but steady. "This sort of panicking is a team sport, cielo. We'll figure this out." There was a brief pause before he added more awkwardly, "I, uh, feel like I should probably, like, apologize...?"
  12. "Oh jams, now I'm rethinking my new costume," Kimber sighed theatrically, her sweater shimmering as it was briefly replaced by her ornate coat, belted at the waist and tattered ominously about her ankles, ice crystal patterns over the shoulders off-setting the black undercut on either side of her head. "If Sharl thinks it's fashionable..." She gave Eliza a comically mournful look before letting her casual outfit return and laughing brightly. "Good thing Eira has a bit more style, hm? I do wonder why you bother with that big, adorably clunky robot body though, Sharl, if Miss Americana can build bodies like that."
  13. Erik's jaw worked open and closed for several wordless moments as he processed that, moving onto rapid blinking and inarticulate sounds to fill the growing silence. "Uhhhh..." He hadn't asked for the specific details of the magic curse that had rendered Talya infertile, just filing it away as another of the legion of background details that made his life and the lives of those close to him unusual, which was beginning to seem like a mistake. Running his hand through his hair he dug deep for something insightful or reassuring to say and ended up sitting down heavily on the couch instead, staring blankly down at his hands.
  14. Erik was already getting to his feet as Chris flopped down, distracted enough that he didn't even pause to give the younger man a hard time over his tardiness. "Hey, hermano. Did you know Americana thinks I don't like her? I gotta smooth that over..." Running a hand through his hair he belatedly remembered to give Liz a small wave. "Hogwarts, hey, sorry. You look good, glowing and all that. We're probably going to be eating soon so take it easy. Ask Steve about his ideas for improving hockey." He offered the new arrivals a grin that looked a little frayed around the edges from stress as he headed for the kitchen. He met his sister along the way carrying Eden, the latter having decided she wanted to go up upon finding her mother occupied with Mia. "Got Vince's laptop set up at the table," Ellie reported, walking along with him. "He said he's buffering but I think he just overheard the conversation in the kitchen and wanted to avoid the awkward small talk for a little longer." "C'mon, Mama takes hosting super seriously and Talya's weapons grade charming," Erik argued as they reached the door. "I'm sure it's fine. Hey, Miss A, I--" He stopped mid-sentence at the sea of stiff smiles and squared shoulders filling up the kitchen with three generations of women. Closing his mouth with an audible click in the thick silence he amended, "You know what, doesn't have to be right now, actually. ...so, hey, Chris and Liz are here. You know she's pregnant? Crazy, right?"

Alright! Meanwhile, Merlin's work is successful in so much as it forces Wildcard to reflexively spend another HP to prevent the cannons from coming online. Merlin can act at the same time as Raina for convenience; a Craft [Electronics] check will be needed to replace the burnt out components! Go ahead with an IC post, then Downtime is up. > 59 - Downtime - Uninjured 20 - Echo - Bruised x3, 0HP 13 - Sparkler - Uninjured, 3HP 6 - Wildcard - Bruised x2, 1HP

  17. "This is why you don't agree to steal evil books for crazy people," Kimber chided the unarmored Four with a sigh, looking between the other women. Weathering a relatively diplomatic correction from Indira was one thing but listening to Eliza suggest picking a fight with a deity wasn't going to do anything enjoyable to Tarva's mood. "Now everybody wants to destroy everybody and it's all blood this and ritual that. We're going to have to find you a respectable job! Once you get out of prison." Giving him an unnervingly friendly wave as he was taken into custody she floated over to the main conversation. "I think we're all on pretty much the same page, eh?" she soothed, looking to the Kinigosi huntress for backup. They couldn't rely on Eve pulling rank every time there was friction, after all. "We'll stop the summoning and take it from there! And maybe punch the gross psychic guy in the face a lot!"
  18. One of Erik's feet slid forward reflexively, his posture ready for a sudden attack in response to Talya's expression. "What? What happened?" Alarmed, he turned around to look at Min before quickly turning back to the Englishwoman. Wishing he'd spent more time learning the specifics of how Talya's regeneration worked he wracked his mind for what vulnerabilities someone from the forties might have if those powers weren't working properly. "Polio?!" he blurted before immediately raising a hand to forestall an unnecessary answer. "Wait, no. Sorry. What am I not getting?" He was using the tone he reserved for when he was trying to be especially calm and reasonable while explaining something to Eden without sounding worried.
  19. "Becky's going to be all mad," a chipper voice teased over the intercom as the elevator continued smoothly upward. Naturally Bluebird had let Kimber know the moment their expected guests had stepped off of the sidewalk toward the skyscraper but the poltergeist enjoyed the motions of answering the metaphorical doorbell all the same. She was there to greet them as the door slid open, all translucent blue smiles and hovering a handful of centimetres off of the castle floor. Beaming, she thew open her arms, wrapped in a cozy looking cowl neck seater. "Ohmigoodness, look at you! You're so tall! And you hair!" Kimber looked several years older than the last time Eira had seen her which wouldn't have been unusual if they'd been anyone other than who they were. Certainly the Canadian's current hairstyle was a departure, too. "Get over here and give me a hug! I give hugs now!" She raised her gaze to give Sharl an amused look that wrinkled the faint dusting of beryl freckles across her nose. "You can come in, too, Sharl. I suppose!"
  20. "Rock," the singularly named titan contemplated aloud in an aside to his diminutive companion as it became increasingly clear that the situation hadn't been well represented by the initial briefing. "Nah, you'll prob'bly end up punchin' somebody," Nae-Dae reasoned from previous experience alone. She'd ducked behind a bulky stone shoulder when Wander had turned her attention her way and had since been trying to surreptitiously resume a more casual position. "What d'you figure a 'Charlie' is? Some real bruiser, I bet, bloody Terrans."
  21. "Right next to you," Erik assured her, gesturing toward the bowl on the table with the hand holding the camera while holding the other up in mock defence against the implied consequences for failing to deliver snacks. "Give me a minute and I can probably get some drinks, too. Maybe something caffeinated, it's barely eleven thirty, Bedtime Bear." Putting the camera down on a convenient shelf he double-checked that Min had Mia well in hand before reaching down to offer Talya help up. "Are you coming down with something?" the dusty brown haired man asked more seriously, a flicker of concern making it past his teasing grin. "Not like you to just run out of gas, even if Mia does tend to gobble up all the energy around her. ...which may be a thing she literally does, considering."

  23. "Alright, that's one gremlin down for the count, I'd say," Erik's voice preceded him before he rounded the corner with a lavishly intricate pile of nachos heaped into a bowl large enough he had to use both hands to balance it safely. "How are you doing with-- huh." Spotting Talya asleep on the floor he paused in the doorway, nonplused. Finally setting the bowl down on the coffee table in front of the couch, when a few slices of jalapeño and drops of salsa almost immediately escaped containment, he looked to Mia, who seemed rather pleased with herself all thing considered. "Getting pretty good at that, aren't you? I don't know what we're going to do with two of you running around soon. Think you can stay right there while I go get the camera?"
  24. Erik managed to keep his pout for about four more seconds in the face of Talya's smile before he sighed theatrically and let a grin of his own replace his grimace. "Well, it's a start. So long as I make it sexy." Taking advantage of the space created when the blonde had leaned backward he ducked down to kiss her again, taking his time to explore the fullness of her lips and letting the intensity gently rise like holding a hand under the warming rush of water from a faucet. When he broke away it was only far enough so that he could murmur, "Still, I wouldn't want to be too responsible. You said something about pleasant distractions...?"

    Time Out

It was tough to say whether Echo's head was ringing from the impossibly fast punch that cracked into her jaw or from the way her super-senses were trying to communicate the hash the two villains were making of localized reality between the time manipulation and the twisting of probabilities. It might have occurred to the young woman to be thankful that the pair had no greater ambitions for their formidable abilities than violence and burglary but as she struggled to stay standing it was likely difficult for her to feel thankful for much at all. With a brief blur like an old VHS tape pausing mid-playback Downtime reappeared, synced back up with the normal flow of time. "Listen, girl, we don't even know you, yeah? You're just taking the beating we owe Jack of all Blades. Guy uses swords and hangs out in the West End, sooner or later he's gonna show up at the gym that teaches sword fighting in the West End." Considering that the grudge Downtime bore for the leader of the Interceptors was several years old his detective work wasn't the most impressive but seeing as the school wasn't a constant target for supervillain attacks he had some room to be proud of himself. "You keep giving us a hard time, we're gonna kill you. No joke, yeah? Whatever your deal is it can't be worth it so how about you teleport away and let us do our thing?" He folded his arms over the hourglass insignia on his chest and tilted his masked head to one side.
