Oof, lousy luck. Alright, I'll get an IC post up and once again pause the fight so we can check back in which Sparkler. 59 - Downtime - Uninjured 20 - Echo - Bruised x3, 0HP > 6 - Wildcard - Bruised x1, 3HP

Downtime Standard Action: Unarmed Attack vs Echo: 1d20+12 13 Wildcard Reaction: Luck Control to preroll Downtime's Attack Downtime Unarmed Attack vs Echo; Luck Control Reroll: 1d20+12 28 That's another DC 27 Toughness Save for Echo but Wildcard is down to 3HP. Buffy has the option of spending her HP to clear the Daze or passing the turn. Raina should be able to see what's going on, meanwhile, thanks to Vince's CCTV feed. 59 - Downtime - Uninjured > 20 - Echo - Bruised x2, Dazed, 1HP, Pending DC 27 Toughness Save 6 - Wildcard - Bruised x1, 3HP

There was a heavy silence as Midnight retrieved his throwing disks and tucked them back away into his belt before rising back up to his full height. He'd have towered over Iyar even without the evident strain of her captivity writ across her face and frame but she didn't blink as the emotionless red lenses of his mask looked down at her. Perhaps that was why he took another moment, considering her question in earnest before answering. When he answered his voice was low, deliberately clear despite the grating gravel of his mask's filter. "Inexorable." It was no boast or threat but a solemn promise: no matter what forces were arrayed against them liberty had come to Ifrit and it would not be denied. Without another word he turned and headed downward.

"Admittedly I have no idea who that is but I have a hard time imagining anyone underestimating your competence," Erik scoffed theatrically, slipping the key into his pants pocket to free up his hands for more pleasant uses. "And there's no reason we need to go immediately, sure." Shifting closer in her embrace he found the small of her back with both hands and let one of them begin drifting slowly downward. "Should probably still leave time to head over there today, though, even if it's just so you can show-- oh hell." He craned his neck enough to give Talya a wounded look. "I'm the responsible one. I'm the one who thinks paperwork should interrupt fooling around. That's horrible." In a more self-aware moment he might have found it in himself to admit that his carefree mannerisms had never amounted to much in the face of his staunch adherence to his training regimen and patrol schedule, not to mention his longstanding and varied efforts to provide for his loved ones but somehow this still felt like waking up one morning to find one had accidentally become a chartered accountant.

"I did sort of start the scary illusion fight," Ghost Girl supposed aloud, floating up behind Tarva with her feet far enough off of the bank floor to place a translucent blue hand placatingly on the taller woman's shoulder before she could take out her frustrations on their captured robber. "But then I'm a poltergeist; that guy without armour was just creepy." Her voice was light, almost teasing but those who knew her well noted the lack of cheerful enthusiasm running beneath it and the way her other hand was gripping her scythe tightly enough to turn her knuckles ice white. Even if she was trying to stay positive she'd been shaken by the mental intrusion. "Those are the dangers of subcontracting, eh? Tell you what, I'll be good cop, okay?" She deftly swung her weapon about behind her head so that the long, unnaturally reflective blade framed her head like a macabre halo and let her eyes turn inky black with luminous blue irises, her too-wide smile touched by a hint of rictus. "Who hired you in the first place?"

Erik snorted as he tilted his chin into the kiss. He'd never been entirely comfortable with the role of leader outside of heated battle, he was just more comfortable with it than with trusting anyone else with the safety of his people. Still, Talya had a way of giving the nickname a very different context than it had when Chris used it. "Sounds like we should probably go over the highlights sooner rather than later, I guess. Otherwise I'll just find some excuse to put it off. Good tip about the explosives, by the way. Anything else you've wired to blow I should know about? I suppose your codename should have been a red flag..." he mused with exaggerated thoughtfulness, lightly tapping his forehead against Talya's as her stance sloughed some of its tension.

"Extraterrestrial," Midnight interjected, having spent the entire time since the woman in black arrived standing in admittedly unnerving silence. It made sense just by process of elimination; the form of the 'lure' as the Deep One put it was obviously targeted to Aquaria but her beliefs but the iconography was no great secret, especially from practicing psionic cultures like the Lor or Grue. A mystical looking trident would have been simple enough to affect and it fit with the clues pointing toward teleportation. It didn't begin to explain a motive but at least it gave them a direction to start looking. Up. The masked man turned the burning coals of his red eyes toward their prisoner to warn against further interruptions before turning back to Wander and their exceedingly nervous aide. "Can rule out magic, then." It was about as close to gratitude for the assistance as he was likely to vocalize while in costume and in front of the amphibious intruder while also giving Eve's dark magic expert leave to excuse herself before she strained something. The statuesque build and strong reaction to the heroes made him think of the Furions but her disposition was about as far from those bombastic warriors as he could imagine.

While Yolanda squeezed past Talya into the now somewhat cramped kitchen to retrieve the requested drinks Gina deftly rolled backward in a tight three point turn so that her chair tucked neatly into one corner of the room, leaving her facing the rest of the varied women. "Just cutting the bread would be lovely," she agreed with a friendly smile for Buffy and an appreciative look in Mara's direction for giving the nervous younger woman something reasonably safe to focus on. "I'm Gina, Erik and Ellie's madre, if you hadn't guessed. I owe you a big hug from what I hear. I have to get him to make me a chart to keep track of all you kids and your powers, though, te lo juro." The smile didn't leave her face when she turned to address Talya but the warmth drained out of it quickly. "Oh, well. We did it here last year, since there's more space but I think we'll most likely do it at Erik and Min's apartment this time around," she replied lightly, folding her hands neatly in her lap. It all had the air of an off-handed comment but Miss Americana at least knew that the answer was a sudden reversal of what the matriarch had been describing minutes before. "They're still turning that place into a home, you know, and it's so important to have good, family memories in a place for that. Don't you think?" In the expectant pause that followed Yolanda silently slid a glass of ginger ale toward Buffy on the kitchen table and although she was holding another pair of glasses for her uncles the girl stayed put, looking back and forth between Gina and her guests, understanding that something interesting was going on if not what, specifically.

Shamefaced, Erik ducked his chin down a bit when Talya pointed out something he thought he'd done a better job hiding. It wasn't as though he begrudged either her or Min their long, winding histories but something deep in his chest always clenched when he heard about some hurt than he was decades or more to late to soothe or avenge. He'd never meant to make either of them reluctant to talk about those things with him, however. "Hey, I'm never unarmed, remember?" he deflected with a sheepish grin, gesturing with his free hand as though he were loosely grasping the hilt of a sword. "That's like my whole thing." He let the smile fade and reluctantly closed his fingers around the key so that Talya's hand rested on top of his closed fist. "But alright. This means a lot, seriously. Do you want to be there to go over it with me or is this something I should go through a bit at a time?"

Erik's hand reached out reflexively to take the proffered key but he stopped short, the muscles between his shoulders having visibly tensed at Talya's hesitation. His immediate instinct was to do whatever it took to remove her discomfort, to resolve the difficult topic in whatever manner was most expedient but as her explanation continued he had to grudgingly accept that the situation called for more forethought than his usual rush to action. Carefully taking a step closer he took Talya's hand in his own, the key clasped between them. "I... Are you sure you're okay with that? People not being able to see your embarrassing Facebook history is one of the big perks of growing up before the internet." He attempted a grin to go along with the weak joke but neither or them was convinced by the feigned levity. "...you're allowed to have secrets. I don't want you to feel like you have to do anything, right?" She had a good point about him needing to be aware of potential threats but if it was going to make things weird between them it really didn't seem worth it. He ran a thumb gently over her knuckles. "I love the you you are now, the stuff in the past isn't going to change that. Promise."

Kimber had opened her mouth to shout as the horror unfolded before her, form rippling and returning to her natural state as her focus was shattered. She couldn't believe that things had spiralled out of control so quickly, that she'd miscalculated so badly that blood and cooling bodies filled her vision. She opened her mouth but nothing came out, phantasmal throat tightening in a way that would have been choking if she'd had to breathe. Then Tarva was there pressed against her and for a moment her awareness contracted sharply to consist solely of the unexpected presence of the statuesque woman in black. As she realized, blinking, what had happened the poltergeist whirled on the offending telepath with an uncharacteristic snarl and a raised scythe but it was already too late. The robbers and their accomplice disappeared with their prize, leaving her to slump her shoulders and rub her eyes with her free hand. "Well... jams. Messed that up pretty much entirely," she sighed. Waiting for the others to rush in she took note of the one remaining Power Corp member before turning to Tarva with an expression that was amused despite the undercurrent of frustration and embarrassment over her own performance. "Spying on me again, eh?" Wrapping one arm around the shadow witch's waist she floated high enough to plant a more chaste kiss on her partner's cheek. "My hero."

Neither does Kimber, sorry! She can do Knowledge [Arcane Lore] or Sense Motive?

As a reminder, here's a link to the school's HQ stats: http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/topic/6313-shared-hq-espadas-school-of-self-defense-and-swordsmanship/ The defences are currently out of commission - have an HP each of you! - but the free rank of Teamwork is still active, if it comes up.

"Do I have defences! Who do you think you're talking to here, Baby-Sitters Club?" Vince rebuffed peevishly, appearing again on the television while the feed of the battle outside shrunk down to show beside his head like a newscaster's inlay. "...they've just chosen this moment to short out. Which really, really ought not to be possible; I've got some extremely enthusiastic interior decorators! I'm working on fixing them, 'natch, but with that Wildcard jerk out there I'm not having much luck, if you see what I mean. The files say he's supposed to have a limit but we'd have to get him to push his luck." The avatar grimaced, visible agitation showing through cracks in his outgoing persona. This was his home being attacked and his responsibility. Being unable to protect them was clearly weighing on the AI more with each passing moment. "Not to mention Downtime's moving too fast to target but one problem at a time, my processing's not what it used to be..."

"What? That's crazy!" Erik protested, sitting upright and looking as alarmed as if Steve had just announced that the house was on fire. "We've worked together a bunch of times, like that thing with the ninjas and the pirate guy and all those robots!" The younger man's forehead furrowed as he wracked his memory for something that should have tipped him off sooner. "Aw, hell, I must have said something. Lo siento, Steve, I'll figure something out and fix it." The idea that he'd offended or alienated Americana by accident was distressing but not exactly unprecedented given the way his mouth could sometimes get away from him but thinking that he'd unknowingly put strain on his friend's relationship and made an ally feel unwelcome in his home was different altogether. "Did she say why? Ugh, and I was just a wiseass about the desert, too."

Erik's expression fell for a moment as he tugged a clean shirt over his head but a reassuring smile had reasserted itself by the time his head reappeared. "Well, hey, I mean... I missed out on the really bad part of that and you already apologized to Min. Emphatically." Walking closer he rubbed the back of his head with one hand uncertainly. "The team probably should have known about that before, yeah, but I get that it doesn't really come up in conversation. It's actually kind of nice to know some of this is uncharted territory for you, too, heh." They both knew that was downplaying how agitated he'd been immediately after the fight with Mastermind and his Atavisms but he found it extremely difficult to stay upset with Talya for any length of time. "So. What's at the bank?"

"Oh, sure," Erik agreed easily, hardly needing to be sold on the merits of punching people who dearly deserved it. There was obviously something to be said for nonviolent solutions as well but they did lack a certain panache. Pulling his tank top over his head and tossing it into an open duffel bag in one corner of the room he tilted his head slightly to one side. "Mysterious." He didn't get the sense that Talya was being intentionally vague so much as she was dancing around something she wasn't overly eager to deal with. That didn't narrow it down much for him, however; when an immortal said they'd put something off, he'd learned, that could really mean they'd put something off. "Scale of one to ten, how endearingly overprotective should I be getting right now? Is this a blood magic thing? 'Cause I'm still at about an eleven on the blood magic thing."

Ignoring the the moderate sweat he'd worked up during the class Erik slid a hand up Talya's back and dipped her slightly while returning the kiss, sparking a smattering of amused laughs and embarrassed coughs from the last of the students filtering out. "Mmh, it is now, cielo," he agreed with a cocky smile as he brushed a few loose strands of hair away from her face before helping her back upright. "I feel like I could probably be persuaded," the fencer agreed, grabbing a water bottle and taking a long pull before setting about packing up equipment. "What did you have in mind?"

"Rock? Ro-ock," Rock suggested diplomatically, stepping around to same side of the transmission and leaning his considerable bulk into view to wave briefly. It was a little tough to tell on his chunky, unyielding features but he seemed to be aiming for something between apologetic and reassuring. Twisting about in a manner than reminded those in the room that he didn't possess the framework of a skeleton in quite the same way as someone made of flesh and blood he gave Frankan a flatter look. "Rrrooock," he pointed out reproachfully and even if the specifics were lost on some of those listening the tone and his posture communicated that he wasn't angry, just disappointed. "Ooooh...!" Nae-Dae tittered briefly before clamping two of her hands over her own mouth and looking pointedly away and trying to change the topic. "So, eh, aheh... Singularity's a bit of a rubbish name for a clone, yeh? Couldn't have called her Binary or somethin', like?"

The image on the television screen blinked a few times as Raina and the girls disappeared from view. Even though he must have been monitoring the room via some sort of a cameras Vince's avatar still craned his neck about as if trying to get a better view from the corner of the screen, like someone looking through a window from outside. "Well that's a heckuva thing! I'll just assume you're sill in earshot then, alright? Alright!" With a brief flicker the image on the television changed to a shot of the chaos on the street below, the whistling of steel slicing through the air audible from the window while they watched the man dressed like a jester open fire on the display. "Those chowder heads are Wildcard and Downtime, from the Crime League and it's looking like they didn't come to sign up for yoga!" The camera caught the latter of the two villains stepping back out of the school before disappearing again in a blur of motion too quick to be recorded. "I called ol' Fearless Leader and the ladies but they're a good ten minutes away and I don't thing our gal's gonna last that long, kiddo! Open to suggestions; there are no dumb ideas, like they say!"

'Escher Girl' connected solidly with Wildcard's head, the regained element of surprise granted by her teleportation and her increased combat training coming together in a way that should have bought her time to regroup if not taken the criminal out of the fight altogether. As the attack landed, however, Wildcard began to turn, turning what should have been a decisive hit into a glancing blow mostly absorbed by the unexpected protection woven into his ostentatious cap. The grinning jester laughed disconcertingly as he stumbled back a few steps and refocused on Buffy's new location. "And I thought I was gonna be bored, ahaha! I owe Andersen a beer!" Pulling a pair of pistols with weirdly flared muzzles out of his pockets he opened fire, playing card shaped flechette flying across the street in a flurry of deadly steel. "But you're gonna bust on my cap, I'll have to bust a cap! Get it? Hah!" They were sharp enough to stick, quivering in the brick wall behind the young woman as her enhanced agility kept her one step ahead of the wild shots. Her danger sense blared just a moment too late, however, and the next flurry of deceptively whimsical projectiles sliced at her arms and legs, leaving red gashes showing through tears in her workout clothes. It seemed that the stories about Wildcard's impossible luck hadn't been exaggerated.

"We know precisely where my abilities originate and concern regarding the ripping off of head is wholly reasonable," Winifred volunteered helpfully as she accepted the glass of water without looking up, voice tight despite her effort to regain some outward composure. Focusing on one point on the floor seemed to be helping but not much. "Ah, that was what you meant. Yes. Good. All on the same page, then." Finally glancing upward she didn't look much more pleased by the number of witnesses than Riley. "I could p-probably retch some more if you thought the distraction would be welcome, Smith. Ugh. I doubt anyone is laughing; surely Matthew has had ample to time to get used to... you." The alchemist made a vague gesture that encompassed all of the survivalist, green eyes glazing slightly. "Regardless, we can be event ruining pariahs together. Hooraaaaay..." She managed a wan smile before being interrupted by another dry heave and grimacing.
