Winifred bristled a bit at Raina's reaction to the drink but contained her commentary to simply pursing her lips and turning her attention to the cup Riley had poured for her. "Smith, recalling the alcohol content of that, does it seem at all wise for me to render myself more prone to emotional responses?" she asked in a lowered voice, quirking one eyebrow upward. She'd enjoyed the academic challenge of brewing the 'wine' and the survivalist had sufficiently convinced her that it would be a good way to ingratiate them to the other party-goers but she hadn't been planning to partake herself. When Huang offered his own review she sniffed, glaring as he clapped her on the back but misunderstanding his reference. "Latin and now poetry. You're certainly going out of your way to impress as a host." Matt's qualified compliment was a little closer to what she'd been hoping to hear and she accepted his toast with a nod and a small smile. From the interplay between Aníbal and Raina the reason for the witch's foul mood eventually became clear. "...ah. Well. Winifred Wei," she introduced herself, looking looking around the room and reevaluating the various costumes of her classmates. "I would say it's a pleasure but I think perhaps I'm meant to be cross with you in solidarity, Master Herrera. I think as well that I may have misunderstood the... spirit of the celebration. I've changed my mind, Smith, give that here." Taking the red cup she downed half of its contents immediate, grimacing briefly before composing her features again and smoothing the lines on her skirt with her free hand. "Ahem."

Regaining her balance with a snarl, Jill let some of the deathly energies encircling her hands bleed off into the air with considerable effort as the Withering escaped aboard his mount. "I'm not done with you!" she snapped angrily even as Mastermind suddenly gave them an entirely new problem to worry about. Shielding her face with one arms from the shrapnel of debris sent hurling in every direction from the impact she forced herself to remember that both Willow and Miss Americana were many times over more durable than the average human being, that she hadn't just witness more of her team and family murdered before her eyes. She bit out a series of incomprehensible expletives that jumped between languages as she tried to reorder her thoughts, ultimately focusing on the armored woman next to her. The virulent green light finally faded from her fingers to be replaced with a warm, sun-dappled blue as she got an arm under one of Dragonfly's shoulders to help support her, mindful of the injured ribs she was obviously compensating for with her stance. At her touch bone and muscle began to knit back together, healing the the engineer even if her suit and equipment remained dented and damaged. "Dios, I want them dead so much but we have to start fighting smart. He wants the machine destroyed; if I hold them off can you finish what you were doing with it?" Her arms tightened around Mara protectively even as her eye darted between their attackers and the wreckage, looking for any sign of the women crushed beneath it.

"Save your energy, hermano. You're too damn heavy for me to lug around, remember?" Jack told the cyborg with a weak attempt at joviality, his expression tight as he looked over his friend's injuries. Where Steve was capable at times of a bottomless well of ice cold rage he knew the swordsman's fury ran hot and could only be tamped down for so long before exploding into action; that his concern over getting Steve to safety and treatment outweighed his desire to hunt down the shadow witch said something indeed. "Pretty much figured the high tech thing out already, anyway. The ship we're in looks a bit like the Gorgon so we're probably talking about something related to the Preservers. Plus there's the robot dinosaurs; those were maybe also a tip off." The forced smirk slipped from his face as he crouched nearby his tortured teammate, his voice dropping down to only a little louder than the former drone's pained whisper. "...Steve, I need you to stand up, man. Can you do that?"

Erik glowered dangerously at Dimitri's jesting and laughter, an expression that might have seemed more dangerous if the girl in his arms hadn't been wearing an identical albeit smaller version of the look herself. "...I guess there's something to be said for honesty," he grumbled after a moment, gauging that the Russian was probably a greater danger to his patience than to his daughter. He'd never crossed paths with this particular Freedom Leaguer but he knew Min had at one point and Stesha had mentioned him a handful of times, even if doing so had strained her legendarily friendly nature. "Wait. 'Bad day' how?" he demanded suddenly, lowering the fiery sword but not yet dismissing it. "What happened? Is Talya alright?"

Trevor had a grateful if brusque grunt for the voice on the other end of the line - the familiar, inhuman vibration suggested the metallic shapeshifter he'd met once before and whom he understood was one of Eve's most trusted people living in the Dutempts Building these days. The response he got from the Frenchwoman came simultaneously, not formed into words but conveying both that he could take Wraith at her word and that she was very, very unhappy about someone being attacked right under her nose. "Suggest searching whole building. Reason to think Jessie was targeted, could still be other disappearances. Keep us informed." He was about to hang up but after a beat he added, "...be careful. May be dealing with extremely dangerous interdimensional doubles. Eve should be able to verify identities telepathically." Turning back to Erin he caught her eye even as she continued to talk to Alex on her own phone. "Some signs of struggle but not as much as if Jessie had been able to fight back. Evidence of teleportation." His expression was grim; they were all thinking Anti-Earth and while he expected Alex was most worried about Pathos looking to reclaim her 'project' he was not surprisingly more worried about his own counterpart.

Winifred didn't seem any more surprised by the mention of prostitution than she had by the idea of drug dens, simply nodding in amiable understanding and making little sounds of appreciation as the unkempt dog appeared, keeping back enough so as not to spook him but placing her hands on her knees to crouch slightly and get a better look. She blinked more at the explanation of their destination. "A Chinese restaurant, do you mean? ...why?" She hadn't noticed a particularly high concentration of Chinese immigrants on the bus or sparsely peopled streets and she couldn't imagine who else the target audience would be for such a business. Robin's home neighbourhood seemed like an odd place to cater to any sort of 'exotic' fad. "They peddle Chinese food as one might specialize in French cuisine? Do I have the right of that?"

Trevor had his phone in hand immediately, pulling up the landline number to the castle atop the Dutempts Building while simultaneously forming a pointed thought directed toward the telepathic link he shared with the the petite Frenchwoman. --Eve. Calling now, something happened to Jessie and Aquaria-- It was a little different for him contacting her that way than the other way around since the Martel heiress wasn't always 'listening' as closely as other times but the urgency of the sending should have gotten her attention. While the phone rang he said aloud, "Happened quickly. Wouldn't have mattered if you'd picked up immediately." Like Erin he kept his voice calm and rational but the tightness in his shoulders agreed more with her expression. "We'll find them."

"Mattresses do have some functional advantages," Trevor opined, a little slower to get back to his feet than Erin as he cast about for his coveralls. He'd managed to get his second arm into its sleeve while nodding agreeably along with dinner plans when he caught the change in Erin's expression. Any lethargy in his body language disappeared as he quickly buttoned up with lean, nimble fingers and walked swiftly over to the largest of the tool cases in the garage. Sliding out the middle shelf on its tracks he tripped a hidden toggle inside the case which allowed the shelf to flip over, revealing an abbreviated assortment of his Midnight equipment, including a Liberty League communicator. Looking back over to Erin with a sober expression he silently waited for her to finish listening to the message and let him know what needed to be done.

"Well, who doesn't love arguing semantics?" Set asked blithely, even if he couldn't entirely suppress a slight squirming in his seat under Phantom's glare. Sekhmet growled in response to the question, drawing a much put-upon sigh from the godling. "Aye, but you hate everything fun, oh Mistress of Dread, hence the previously established need for dodging. Similarly I think tis fair to say we might be less rushed were we not consistently being interrupted rather forcefully, eh, oh inheritor of dimples most charming?" Set seemed to be under the impression that the tone of things was beginning to turn their way and some of his usual exuberance was beginning to return as he grinned in Huang's direction. "Couldn't have a conversation with our mouths full or whilst viewing a motion picture, surely. Terrible poor manner either way! Mayhaps I'm simply out of date...?"

Eden gave the Russian a supremely skeptical look; she was old enough now to know that an adult wasn't about to offer her an entire chocolate bar unless there was some sort of dire catch like a doctor's appointment or the need to sit quietly for a whole twenty minutes or more. Before she could come to a decision a male voice called from down the hallway, "Edie, what part of 'time for bed' was--" The strapping man with short cropped, dusty brown hair rounded the corner and caught sight of the draugr and several things happened in rather quick succession. A plain stainless steel lighter appeared in the man's right hand and flicked on before being tossed aside just as quickly but the tiny flame it produced remained, floating above his palm and erupting upward. Simultaneously he stooped down and scooped the little girl up in his left arm holding her protectively against his shoulder and shifting to place the fire between her and Dimitri as it coalesced into the unmistakable form of a dueling saber. Cool blue eyes glared at the intruder, reflecting the light of the dancing flames as his fingers clenched around the hilt, knuckles white. "Buddy, you'd better have a really good explanation for what you're doing in my home and you better have it really quickly."

"Diu nei," Jill shot back at the Withering, flakes of dead, blackened bark drifting in the air between them as their respective powers killed off any vines that got too close. Love you, too, hun, she thought inwardly, resisting the overpowering urge to go to Mara and see to her injuries immediately rather than continuing the fight. They'd killed Talya, turned to ash in an instant and while the rage of it burned in her stomach like a hot coal fear over what else these monsters might do if given even a moment to regroup roared through her veins above all else. Outwardly, though she remained fierce and immutable, her attention on her white robed opponent. "What's it going to take before you idiots figure out threatening her is off the table?" Evidently the question was rhetorical because instead of waiting for an answer she surged forward and caught the Withering's wrists in her own hands. Just as it had with the Beast sickly green energy flowed into her target but unlike his brutish companion the Withering was not without appropriate defenses. His own abilities pushed back, the air around them crackling and chilling as the very microbes floating unseen around them were snuffed out. Jill gritted her teeth as they grappled on a cellular level, gaining the upper hand momentarily as she forced the Atavism to stumble backward on suddenly weakened legs.

Fortunately for Eve's concerns any apprehension Becky felt about the tattooing process or partially disrobing in the parlour was outweighed by her curiosity as she watched Lane's work intently and spoke up with the occasional question when she was sure she didn't risk distracting the artist. Much as she had when she and Eve had first met she was more than willing to power through her sometimes wavering confidence where new experiences and more importantly a certain white haired Frenchwoman were concerned. Having shown the heiress a few a few different claw mark designs as examples to get a better idea of what she was going for, Lane settled on an elegantly simple geometric pattern in plain black ink which evoked the desired imagery while contrasting starkly with Eve's pale skin. If there'd been any doubt regarding the success of the aesthetic an appreciative if not entirely human rumble from Becky as the tattoo began to take shape resolved them thoroughly.

Jill O'Cure Alright, discussed this a bit in Chat but let me know if this works: Move Action: Taunt the Withering w/ Skill Mastery, DC 25 Standard Action: Touch Attack vs the Withering: 1d20+10 20 I think that's enough to hit? Opposed Power Check: 1d20+12 18 Ugh, not good news. Well, if she's not getting the benefit of those HPs going around that probably gonna go badly! EDIT: After clarifying in chat, rolling with the rank of the Array as the bonus: Opposed Power Check: 1d20+26 42

To punctuate Steve's words the tip of the obsidian black blade thrust through the Preserver forged metal of the door separating them from the incensed swordsman, a hand's width of jagged, solidified shadow carving it like a bread knife through a stale roll. The metal creaked and cracked in protest as though being frozen to unthinkably low temperatures as it gave way, a long arcing chasm left in the sword's wake that dribbled slightly with the dark blood it had drawn from its prey. Within a few moments it had already drawn a line from a point at shoulder height up and over and back down toward the floor; there was no doubt that if Magriette could not make good on her escape in the next few second she would lose her chance entirely.

Catching the look Matt cast in Raina's direction, Winifred pursed her lips. "A gentleman should at least pretend at subtlety, Matthew," she chided in mild annoyance before turning back to the girl with the wings. "My pestering questions can wait, I'm sure. Smith and I prepared some beverages, if you'd like. I even ensured that he didn't add predator urine to the mixture." She paused for a beat then tilted her head to one side and adding, "That was a joke." Looking down to the hound she accommodatingly scratched behind his ears. "Come along, we'll see if there's anything suitable for canine tummies. At least you have an excuse for being ruled by your appetites." She gave Matt a pointed look as she led the way toward the snack bowls where Robin and Riley were setting up the drinks, though the psychopomp thought he might have caught the slightest hint of a smirk from the mannerly alchemist. Catching to to Raina, she reached up to place a hand lightly on the taller girl's shoulder. "I've already had a word with Matthew about the leering," she assured the witch sympathetically. "I would be more than happy to speak to the other boys as well. I know you were looking forward to this evening, you should be able to enjoy it in peace." She shot Riley a stern look as she said it; he could be just about the most tryingly male person she knew. "How did the blackberry turn out?"

Jack of all Blades Full Action: Cutting through the door! The door has +20 Toughness but the Drain Toughness component of the energy sword lowers that to +14. It then makes a Toughness Save automatically at (5 + Bonus) for 19. The DC for the Damage component of the energy sword is 21, so the door drops down to +13. He should be able to cut the rest of the way through next round by using extra effort.

"Twist my arm," Trevor sighed heavily, the sound turning appreciative as Erin's fingers ran over a shoulder muscle stiff from working under the car. With one hand, lightly stained with engine grease at her waist he leaned forward and guided them downward until her back lay along the creeper. The fingers of his remaining hand found the hem of her t-shirt and rolled it upward so that he could plant a kiss low on her sternum. Working his way even lower he hummed, "Need to start practicing for Australia anyway." A considerable while later they were forced to confront the fact that while the garage had its charms the concrete floor was not particularly comfortable for lethargic cuddling. That didn't stop them from trying, naturally, Erin's creeper having been inadvertently rolled away at some point to knock into a toolbox on the other side of the room.

Jill O'Cure Reflex Save vs DC 22: 1d20+10 25
-
Jill shouted as Dragonfly plummeted from the sky, an inarticulate sound of fear and outrage drowned out by the sound of metal impacting with pavement. Her breath hitched in her throat for a split second and things began to move so quickly, too quickly. The crackling bioelectricity of her force field was forming around her fingers as Miss Americana placed herself in front of Spellbound and had begun to take shape as the woman in black attack but she was too slow, too slow and Bombshell was just gone. No supposedly mortal injury she could magic away, no second chance or last minute save; she'd been too slow to act and Talya was dust. And then the first of her murderers tried to take Mara hostage and Ellie would be damned if she'd hesitate again. She crossed the distance between them in the blink of an eye but it was still more than enough time for the light around her fingers to turn from blue to sickly green with a violent crack of ozone. Her left hand grabbed onto the arm around Dragonfly's neck and dug in, purple-black bruises springing instantly into view under her finger as another surge of malevolent energy surged into the Beast. As his strength weakened she pried the arm away and shoved her right hand into his exposed throat, completing the terrible circuit. The hulking man's skin paled and his veins bulged, turned a horrible sanguine shade while something milky yellow began to dribble from one nostril and into his moustache. His knees buckled and still she held on, teeth bared and power flaring. He staggered backward with a strangled moan but she didn't let go. His eyes rolled back in his head as he lost consciousness and only then, unnatural green miasma circling all the way up to her shoulders, did she let him collapse to the street. She took one step forward, just enough to place herself between the injured engineer and the man in the white robes, hot, angry tears staining her mask. When she opened her mouth a faint green-white mist rolled out of the corners like sulfur from a dragon's maw. Her voice was oddly clam and level compared to her earlier shouts, a grim promise rather than a threat. "You think you're the sickness? I'm going to tear you apart cell by cell and drown you with your own liquefied heart, you goddamn murderer."

"Steve!" Jack shouted as the door slammed closed between them and he was left to slide nimbly away from the swearing woman. With a snarl he reached out with his metamagi abilities and yanked at the cold, oily magics the sorceress was calling to he defense, tendrils of darkness pulled from her fingers to his own waiting hand like unraveling thread. "Lady, give it a minute and you can ask him yourself." The darkness solidified into a jagged saber like glassy obsidian, his fingers wrapping around the hilt despite the pinprick icicles it caused behind his eyeballs. Without giving her time to defend herself properly the swashbuckler came in low with an upward slash, the momentum carrying him up and over to deliver a merciless thrusting blow on her opposite side a heartbeat later, the black magic sinking deep and sapping her strength just as he imagined it had as she'd directed it against his friend. "You hurt one of my people; you don't get to make that mistake twice. Not now, not ever!"
