The girl blanched slightly at the mention of her monstrous alter ego, letting her face fall into a delicate hand as she composed herself. "I... had hoped it all a fever dream," she admitted, looking for a moment very small in the oversized jumper, especially compared to the towering mass of twisted muscle they'd witnessed earlier. Clearing her throat with some difficulty she lifted her chin, clearly unwilling to show any outward weakness for very long. "I am glad, however, to hear that you avoid any dramatic injury, somehow. My name is Winifred Wei, out of London. I am... not clear why I am not presently there, in fact." Her green eyes darted back and forth from face to face taking in details in a rapid analysis before moving onto her surroundings. "Freedom City, you said? In the Americas? ...then I was in a stupor for at least the duration of the voyage." The locality presented the flimsiest of explanations for the group's style of dress and speech but her forwn deepened as she looked around the bus, not recognizing much of what she saw. "Statue. A statue. The philter did render my flesh inert but failed to end me outright! Idiot. I was in such a panic..." Winifred ran both hands through her dark hair, blinking rapidly as she worked away on some mental equation.
  2. Temperance's concerns proved to be more than valid as more than a dozen of the eldritch behemoths fell upon the heroes, pounding away with fists of mottled bone and sickly tinted ice. Citizen's robotic frame braced against the ground as the attacks rained down atop him, weathering the barrage as structural integrity alerts popped up one after another. Temperance and Revenant were forced back-to-back as they were surrounded, the undead lawyer taking a savage swing from one of the giant cousins that ripped her jacket with a jagged claw which the elementalist was tossed to rocky ground as her icy barriers were shattered by a pair of attacks from the groaning skeletons. Whatever was going on atop the bluff behind them they could only hope it was finished soon, before they were overwhelmed!

  4. "Aye! No fear, princess, She Who-- er," Set thought better of sharing any of his companion's more illustrative titles with the little girl at the last moment and smoothly recovered, "Sekhmet has yet to find the quarry that might elude her! And as our endearingly maternal Phantom points out I expect your father to be making no such attempts at evasion, eh? The matter be as good as resolved!" If the godling was put off by the child's sticky fingers she certainly didn't show it, giving her hand a reassuring squeeze in response and a broad grin of conspicuously perfect teeth. Indeed, they'd only just started to discuss whether it was better to follow after Sekhmet or stay where they were more easily found when a commotion split the crowd in front of them. Back in her human form the warrior goddess strode purposefully toward them, ignoring the protests of the grown man she'd hauled off of his feet by his collar. His shouting and kicking stopped immediately as he caught sight of his daughter, replaced by profound relief. With a huff, Sekhmet dropped him back down the ground so that he might run over, then folded her arms for fear of appearing too soft.
  5. Set didn't bother to keep the sly smile from spreading across her lips. What with one thing and another it would hardly be the first time she'd donated a little blood to a worthwhile pursuit, assuming one counted her prior incarnation's exploits. Lacking some of the more annoying fragilities of mortals, she had little fear of a nip or two but letting Huang think it was his idea certainly made it more exciting for everyone. "Well! I would prefer to have you at full strength, of course," she hummed, making a show of careful consideration as she tugged on the lapels of his coat to pull the material over his shoulders against the stone of the half-wall. Running her hands over the pectorals to which she'd given herself freer access she made a contented noise in the back of her throat and tilted her head to one side, exposing her neck as dreadlocks fell away. "Very well, you ravenous beast, you. Be gentle...?"
  6. From the direction of the giant bees' hive a sizable group returned to the main party, a dusty brown haired man with a muscular gymnast's build leading the way with a girl of about three years sitting on his shoulders. Sporting a day or two of stubble he came across as a little scruffy but with a wide grin and loud voice he seemed genial enough, gesturing broadly with one hand as he chatted while the other anchored his daughter in place. From her perch the girl quickly spotted the playing children and demanded to be put down, pulling fearlessly on her father's nose until he acquiesced. With hair a few shades lighter than her father's cut in a short pixie cut the slight point on her ears was noticeable as she sprinted toward Amaryllis with a surprising level of coordination for the size of her legs. Next to them was a serene woman with snow white hair as long as Stesha's, loosely tied into a ponytail but flaring out into a halo-like mane around her high cheekbones. She strode barefoot through the grass with an infant perhaps half a year old in her arms. The little girl was making fussy sounds and generally complaining about having her daily routine changed but seemed to be largely placated by getting to play with her mother's index finger. A few paces behind the married couple were two young women in their early twenties, each holding one hand of a girl who looked to be the same age as Holly, albeit stocky and solid where the other girl was tall and gawky. The woman to her left bore an unmistakable resemblance to the loud man, even with her shoulder blade length hair dyed black. Her partner was slim and blonde, the fairest skinned of the group by a long margin. She was making some wry observation as they came closer to the party that drew a laugh from the other young woman and a pensively furrowed brow from the serious little girl between them. "Hey! The bees say hi!" the athletic man called with a wave and a lopsided grin for their hostess as he sauntered up with his wife. The smile faltered a little as he nodded to Taylor and Jack; the last time he'd seen either of them hadn't been antagonistic, exactly, but not exactly on the best of terms. Hopefully the intervening years had been enough to smooth over however many feet he'd manged to stick in his mouth. Greater concern went in the direction of the unfamiliar face next to the sorceress. "Uh..." "Dr. Sanford?!" his sister blurted incredulously, eyebrows shooting up with surprised recognition.
  7. Jack of all Blades needs to catch up with Bombshell at some point although having a hero who can vouch for her might undercut the shenanigans of that museum thread! I'll put Fred up for either Claremont thread; she'd be willing to accompany her roommate to see more of the city and interested in taking any optional classes she can.
  8. "Nobody's dressing like Patriot," Trevor vetoed in his usual quiet but firm tones from his seat. No one really had to point out that decision making by coin flip was somewhat less random around Mark. Setting down his cup for a moment, the dark haired man considered. "Except maybe Joe. Could probably make that work." He put a comforting hand on Erin's shoulder when she brought up the reaction to their report directly following their Claremont graduation ceremony. The skepticism had never bothered him as much as it had her but then he'd inherited a reputation to begin with and hadn't had to suffer through a denied application to the Freedom League. Looking back over to Alex and Mike, he shrugged subtly. "Liberty League was opposed to bigotry," he reminded them, picking his mug back up with his free hand and giving the couple a significant look over the rim as he took another sip. "More than happy to slap certain faces."

As the rest of the girls boarded the bus their new acquaintance stirred, groaning softly and furrowing her brow. Green eyes fluttered open after a few moments and as consciousness returned and she got a look at her surroundings there was a sharp intake of breath. Jolting upright she backed away from Robin on the doublewide seat and pressed her back against the wall of the vehicle. "Wh-who are you?" she demanded with a surprising measure of dignity considering her disheveled state. Her left arm spasmed once and she screwed her eyes shut again, taking slow, deliberate breaths to calm herself. Squaring her shoulders under Cathy's jumper and drawing herself up, she brushed long, dark hair away from her face and continued with a pronounced English accent, "Where the devil am I?"

"Nooo..." Becky groaned as she was pulled away from the closet, theatrically dragging her feet even if she couldn't keep a smile entirely off of her face. It was always a little bit startling to walk across the sheer floor space of the sprawling apartment or to use an actual private elevator but she'd spent enough time in Eve's world by then to have mostly gotten used to it. She place a hand around the telepath's waist as the elevator doors closed and made a light snort. "Flannel or not, I don't think an evening gown is ever going to look quite right on me," she opined as they were rushed downward. "I missed my high school prom because... well, you know, but I wasn't even looking forward to trying to find a dress then let alone for any sort of fancy party."

  12. "Oh, don't be such a mortal on the subject," Set chuckled at his grumpy mutterings, taking advantage of the position of her face to mouth little kisses below Huang's ear, tracing the lines of his neck with the tip of her tongue. She let the light showers die down slowly, though the sky remained overcast and the area immediately around them remained pleasantly albeit unseasonably warm. "Now I know you come by those delicious legs honestly," the godling added playfully, enjoying the humour of the situation roughly as much as she enjoyed the shapely limbs in question, brushing a hand from the dhampir's hip down his thigh as far as she could reach without breaking contact anywhere along their torsos. She did shift herself enough to continue her line of kisses along his jawline. "Tis a very happy early non-denominational gift giving holiday to me, ha! I do think I had best purchase you supper or some such afterward, now, though, hmm? After working up your appetite?"

Faiza looked legitimately take aback by Robin's unfinished warning, halfway through taking off her own jacket when Cathy donated her jumper the the cause. "What?! None of us would-- How can you even think that?" she sputtered as she looked between the ruined exhibit and the Headmistress, causing Celeste to abruptly stop rummaging in her purse, looking a little disappointed. "Are you actually proud of yourselves?" Madison spoke up incredulously at the same time. Clapping her hands together in an arcane gesture she pulled them apart to reveal a large conjured blanket, looking justifiably pleased with the show of skill as she pushed past Raina to drape it over the unconscious girl. "If anything--" "Enough," Summers cut her off curtly, giving Raina a hard look as the other girls corroborated her story. It was fairly clear from the piercing look that she didn't think for a moment that she was getting the entire truth but for the moment it was apparently close enough. Pinching the bridge of her nose, she sighed, drawing upon some inner well of patience. "She'll come with us for now," she told Robin. She seemed less immediately concerned with the brawler's demanding attitude and more with the injuries - or lack thereof - that she'd sustained during the altercation. "The Academy has facilities for exactly this sort of situation while I make some inquiries. Robin, get her onto the bus while I go explain this to the museum staff. The rest of you still have an assignment." She gave the remaining girls a level look. "If we took a day off every time this sort of thing happened, none of you would ever graduate."
  14. "Phaw, she's a deli~i~ight,", Set countered airily, the instance turning into a lilting sound as fingers traced over a sensitive spot. Vaguely irked by Huang's brief pause she craned her neck downward and caught the dhampir's mouth with her own again, letting her teeth scrape over his lower lip in a series of short, hot kisses. "We sampled the funneled cake," she continued absently, letting her words fall into a rhythm, "and had a makeover and talked about family--" Her hands shot back from his torso to cover her mouth in thunderstruck realization, the previously unnoticed resemblance finally clicking. "She's your mum," she blurted with the beginnings of a laugh. Taking her hands from her mouth revealed a grin poorly contained by biting her lower lip as she clapped her hands and bounced delightedly up and down atop Huang's lap. "I know your mum." Peals of giggling laughter finally overcame her self-control and she fell forward to press her shaking shoulders against the magus and bury her face in the space between his neck and shoulder. "Your mum gave me your number!"
  15. "That does sound amenable," Set hummed, pushing down with the hand on his chest to lift herself up enough so that she could swing one leg about, straddling his lap rather than sitting in it sideways. The godling rolled her hips with enough energy to send her brick red dreadlocks, heavy with rain water, bouncing across her shoulders in a halo of droplets and made a slow show of replacing the card from where she'd retrieved it. "Consider the number added to my contacts already, handsome," she promised silkily, letting her newly freed hand join the other as it traces the outlines of Huang's abdominal muscles with great interest. "Ah!" she added, sounding pleased albeit distracted by her nimble fingers' work as another thought occurred to her. "I should forward unto you the self portrait I took with Sekhmet and the Chosen One of Heshem, then. Tis of a most flattering angle."
  16. "Mmh, a little storm never hurt a soul," Set chided in a breathless gasp, skin thrumming along with the rumbling thunder overhead everywhere it pressed against Huang. Rocking forward and craning her neck she led his lips down the length of her slender neck with an appreciative little sound, the course mapped out by trailing droplets. "Well. That may not be strictly th-- oh!" The godling pulled back just far enough to clap her hands in realization, bouncing slightly in the dhampir's lap. "Referencing the snake!" Reaching into the dip of her cross halter she plucked out a rectangle of glossy black card stock embossed with a rich gold and green design of a serpent curving around to bite its own tail. "Tis one of yours, aye?" she asked with a wide grin, delighted by the coincidence as only a goddess of chaos could be. "Look at you, networking!" The throaty growl in her annunciation of the last word sounded as kindled as she'd been toward his handy banishment of the lower being. She slid her free hand under his damp shirt where rainwater had already soaked through to tight muscles beneath it. "Truly, I'd have used the number immediately had I known what was awaiting my call..."

The three attacks converged on the towering creature's chest, the force shattering the last of the icy bonds holding it in place. With a grunt the beast took a staggering step toward its attackers, then another before the blinding light of Hannah's multihued cascade and the hissing steam where Raina's fire met Cathy's ice obscured it from view. The teens poured on the their attack with clenched jawed resolve, holding nothing back. As their blasts sputtered out finally, powers spent, the cloud slowly thinned to reveal the silhouette of the monster, still upright. "RRRrrrnnnh..." Flesh marred by severe burns and frostbite it raised one foot to continue forward and instead buckled, dropping to its knees with enough force to knock painting around the room off of their hooks and clattering to the floor. Struggling to lift an arm with grasping fingers its milky white eyes rolled back in its head and finally the brute collapsed face first, unconscious. A beat of stunned silence later, the mass of twisted grey flesh spasms, twitching unnaturally as it shrunk in upon itself. Within moments the slim girl who'd first emerged from the statue lay unmoving before them, dark hair plastered to her back with sweat and the last of her rags torn asuder by her transformations. A crack of snapping stone brought their attention away from their unexpected opponent to the entrance to the gallery room where Headmistress Summers has just stepped on a sliver of broken jade. The highest power of Claremont Academy surveyed the rubble and displaced exhibits along with her winded students while behind her Madison and her friends gaped in disbelief, Celeste pointing unnecessarily at the unconscious girl as they whispered among themselves. Summers looked first to Robin then to each of the others in turn. With strained patience, the Headmistress simply demanded, "Explain."

  21. Not at all bothered by the closeness, Set shifted her posture accommodatingly and cracked a grin framed in kohl painted lips. "Referencing the snake? How delightfully phallic," she opined approvingly, using the hand not on his chest to ruffle the dhampir's hair teasingly. The fingers soon slipped around to cup his head behind the ear as she pressed him against the stones of the half-wall with her hip. Dropping her voice low she added, "And indeed, dear Huang, I expect this to be the beginning of a most beneficial friendship." Still smirking she closed the final distance and kissed him, lips hot and tingling with electricity, tongue darting past fangs." The sky overhead rumbled and the police officers who were still finishing digging the last of the cultists out of the sand and carting them off made dismayed sounds as the first drops of a warm drizzle fell from the clouds. In short order they had retreated to the shelter of their patrol cars and any park goers who had been hoping to catch a peek at the battlefield once the fighting was over with soon decided against it as the unusually refreshing shower began to fall in earnest.

  23. Set raised an arm to shield his eyes from the flare of unprocessed power streaming from the plainspoken champion in blue and white. He wasn't clear what he was even looking at; he certainly hadn't expected there to be any beings capable of such a show left on the mortal plane in this age but for the time being that wasn't his primary concern. He released another barrage of crimson lightning from on high, boxing the pretender in more than actually attempting to punch through whatever protections he'd stolen or managed to ape. The revelation of the caped mortal's ability to wound the impostor changed things dramatically: Set didn't have to take the false Horus down himself with his diminished power, he just needed to prevent him from adequately defending himself. Sekhmet was less ready to change her tactics from all-out attack. She continued to slash and roar at the pretender, forcing him to reel back to avoid her fury.
  24. "Coy," Set drawled dryly, rolling her eyes as she languidly stretched out her leg, sliding Ouroboros' hand from her knee to her thigh and the edges of her shendyt. The skin beneath his palm was pleasantly warm despite the onset of fall, like sand left out in the scalding sun all day. "Not an altogether unwise policy for a practitioner, true, but I feel confident that should any future debts be incurred we could find services for you to perform that would not be so terribly arduous." She walked her fingers up the front of his shirt, pushing just firmly enough to drag the fabric incrementally upward with each movement. "Naturally if you're already too worn out by you exertions, I'd understand," she sighed theatrically, a wicked gleam in her grey eyes. "Not many have the stamina to keep up with me. You might at least introduce yourself properly, though, rude boy."
  25. "Well, that will not do!" Set proclaimed animatedly, gesturing emphatically and distracting the child from her woes through sheer force of personality. "I'm sure we can remedy the situation quickly enough. Dear Sekhmet...?" The taller goddess had followed behind Phantom when she'd begun phasing through the crowd, taking a similarly direct route although her method involved considerably more jostled shoulders. "Why does the tiny mortal weep?" she rumbled with a frown, looming over the girl and obviously uncomfortable with the signs of upset. Before anyone could explain, however, her nostrils flared delicately and with a grunt of understanding she dropped forward into her lioness form, all tawny fur and rippling muscle. "Separated from her pride, then. I shall hunt thy father down, child, wherever he may hide." Taking another sniff of the girl, Sekhmet paused long enough to butt her head into her little hand in as reassuring a gesture as she knew to make before setting off through the crowd, ignoring the surprised shouts that followed her.
