"Ah, flattery," Set observed, returning the confrontational look with an encouraging smirk. "You should keep doing that." Over the top edge of the half wall she could see the first of the approaching police to arrive at Hero's Knoll on foot, shouting somewhat unnecessarily for the last two conscious cultists to freeze, rooted to the spot as they were by waist-deep sand. Swinging sideways the godling dropped behind the concealment of the stacked stones and landed sideways in Ouroboros' lap, tucking her knees along the grass and pressing her side against his abdominals. "Mmh, well, tis 'god stuff'. Perform a service, receive a boon. Terribly strict rules, you understand." Keeping her voice low enough not to draw attention for the growing crowd up the hill she tapped a finger to the tip of her chin innocently. "You sounds as though mayhaps you had something in mind...?"

Midnight simply responded by silently securing the waterproof seals on his mask with a faint hiss of air, foregoing his usual headwear in deference to the specific needs of the mission. He didn't need to check his equipment, he'd had plenty of time to do that thoroughly three times over during the trip and even he wasn't immune to the impatience spurned by long transit. Enhanced by Furion technology designed for the airless void between dimensions the airlock cycled them quickly into the crushing depths. Midnight gestured in the dark, inviting Monsoon to lead the way then swimming swiftly after her, albeit without only human skill, not the haunting swiftness which which the princess sliced through the water.

Set looked in the direction of the sirens and considered. On one hand she would have been more than happy to receive credit for dealing with the cultists and she wanted to make sure the arrangements were made to restore her brother's statue but on the other she didn't particularly want to have the inevitable conversation where she assured the constabulary that just because they were worshiping one of her aspects didn't mean that they were her cultists, per se. Besides, she reflected as she reach behind one ear to pull the emerald scales she'd affected off in a papery sheet that disintegrated in the air, there are better places to focus my attention. Swaggering over to the half wall Ouroboros had taken a seat behind the goddess placed a hand on either side of its top edge, above the dhampir's shoulders. "Ooh, are we hiding, then?" she asked in a husky stage-whisper, leaning forward so that she was hanging over the reclining magus with a sly smile. It was tough to say for certain but Ouroboros thought that her flawless bronze skin might have actually been sparkling subtly. "Am I doing it correctly?"

Interceptors History Formation And there came a day, unlike any other, when Doktor Archeville gathered seven young heroes together for a clandestine meeting at a brownstone apartment building in Freedom City's West End: the arrogant paragon All-Star, the teleporting thief Blink, the dimensionally displaced cowboy Colt, the puckish shapeshifter Grimalkin, the swashbuckling swordsman Jack of all Blades, the rage-filled vigilante Razorwing and all-American sweetheart Velocity. His proposition was simple. Each was offered room and board at the brownstone as well as access to the technologically impressive facilities hidden beneath the building, along with a stipend to use as they saw fit. In return, aided by the gregarious AI VINCE, they would serve as the Interceptors, a dedicated and proactive team focused solely on Freedom City, rather than the entire world. For a variety of reasons each agreed, through there were some suspicions that the often morally ambiguous Archeville possessed ulterior motives for gathering them together. Personality Conflicts The founding team possessed a wide range of powersets, but also a number of extreme and often conflicting personalities. Blink and Razorwing, as former criminals, were reluctant to trust their new allies, while Jack of all Blades vocally objected to his teammates' use of firearms, particularly within the West End, which he considered his personal territory. Jack also clashed with All-Star, almost coming to blows over their dissenting views on personal responsibility and conduct. Archeville's reasons for including Grimalkin in his line-up became clear, as she worked to systematically strengthen the bonds between the Interceptors, becoming romantically involved the Colt as well. Blink and Jack came to an understanding over an impromptu sparing match, and Razorwing, by far the youngest on the team despite his aggressive attitude, began to warm up to the group, revealing an aptitude for mechanics. Jack, intensely protective of his secret identity, was even convinced to introduce his sister (under the pseudonym of Jill) to his teammates as a combination Hallowe'en/house warming party. Demonic Invasion This growing camaraderie was all but shattered in the wake of the demonic invasion of Freedom. Although the team struggled valiantly to save as many citizens as they could, Jack of all Blades was slain early in the onslaught and it was ultimately a futile effort. Even when time was reversed so that the bloody day had never occurred, the psychological scars remained. First Velocity decided to refocus her efforts on her schooling, then one by one the Interceptors vanished to parts unknown, leaving only Colt, Grim and Jack. Efforts at recruitment to fill the empty ranks with new members, like the chipper android Elektron, were unsuccessful. While the gunslinger and changeling reaffirmed their feelings for each other, beginning a relationship in earnest, Jack was concealing a terrible secret. His resurrection had somehow left him tainted with demonic hellfire, a condition which was increasingly affecting his behaviour, making him more temperamental and violent. Eventually he was no longer able to hide this from his teammates, who staged an intervention. While Colt helped his friend in the traditional manner - barfighting - Grim called in a favour with FCPD Detective Morena Colby, who was able to use her occult knowledge to cure Jack's condition. New Direction The trio reevaluated their goals, deciding that a new mission statement was required. The Interceptors would become an informal network for heroes too old for Claremont Academy but still too unestablished for the Freedom League, or who were otherwise disinclined to join a team full time. Coordinated by VINCE, heroes who needed help on a case by case basis would have it, while being pointed toward the missions best suited to their skills. The three core members began quietly handing out cards to the appropriate heroes, such as Fulcrum and Atlas, with information which would allow them to contact the Interceptors in an emergency. The core team continued to battle crime in Freedom on a street level, dealing with problems ranging from drug dealers to zombies, while also operating as individuals. Meanwhile, Archeville secretly monitored their actions and a familiar face was about to hake his return... "Threeboot" Razorwing's return proved short-lived. Instead, Fulcrum began a serious relation ship with Doktor Archeville and became a permanent member of the team, albeit one who's other responsibilities demanded much of her time. A new super-speedster was also added to the line-up, the jocular Dynamo. Meanwhile, Jack's world was rocked once again by the culmination of the Tournament of Suits which left one of his long-time foes dead and his sister adopting a new heroic identity as Jill O'Cure. With refreshed membership, the team began to gel once again, participating in the defense of Freedom City against numerous threats, including another Grue Invasion and the living dead. In the spring of 2011, Colt and Grimalkin were married and gradually retired from the superhero scene, leaving Jack as the final remaining founding member of the team. Shortly thereafter, a mistake by the increasingly unstable Doktor Archeville sent heroes throughout the city hurtling backward and forward through time seemingly at random. While Fulcrum led ancient Amazons in battle and Jack fought alongside a futuristic street gang in a dystopian West End, Dynamo spent a full three years in the distant future, building a life for himself and sacrificing a sizable portion of his phenomenal speed in the process of returning home. Though only moments had passed form them, his teammates found him a much changed man, more interested in scientific discovery than fisticuffs and beset by a tragic melancholy. Not long after Acheville and Jack introduced the team to Thrude, the daughter of Thor and a goddess of storm in her own right and Willow, an unbelievably ancient Guardian shaped by the Preservers respectively. Archeville also added former Young Freedom alumni Geckoman and the metal controlling Ferros to the team in short order, seemingly working toward some larger plan without consulting or even informing the rest of the team. These new recruits were added just in time to face the approach of the Gorgon, a planet sized artificial intelligence created by the Preservers that threatened the end of all life on Earth, frozen in proverbial amber. The Gorgon empowered her 'sister' Willow as one of her heralds and only her romantic attachment to Jack of all Blades swayed the Guardian back to the team. More than a fleeting amusement in her immortal lifetime, she revealed to the stunned swordsman that she was pregnant with his child. Under New Management In the summer of 2011, Doktor Archeville's continuing instability finally came to a head when his evil side became fully dominant. Activating nanobots surreptitiously implanted in Jack, Fulcrum, Dynamo, Jill and the visiting Colt and Grimalkin, he seized control of their minds and detonated the Brownstone with Geckoman, Thrude and Willow still inside. In the resulting fallout, Dynamo hung up his costume for the final time, Ferros understandably reconsidered his decision to join the team and Fulcrum was lost in another dimension and presumed dead. A furious Jack told the devastated Archeville to stay away from his team, assuming full leadership of the Interceptors. Operating temporarily out of the Espadas Family's small home in the West End, they eventually moved into the hidden basement of the self-defense school Jack began preparing in the West End, including the reinstated - and reinstalled - VINCE, who had survived the destruction of the Brownstone. With much diminished resources the Interceptors nevertheless rededicated themselves to their mission. The occasional assistance of Dragonfly and Spellbound added much needed technical expertise and the unexpected return of Fulcrum finally brought the team back into fighting form, though her renewed relationship with Archeville remained a sore point. While Jack proved himself a capable field commander, his family history came back to haunt the team when members of the House of Swords attacked his family's home while Willow was in labour, significantly handicapping the present heroes with magic. Winning the day, they were introduced to the newborn Eden Espadas. Shortly thereafter, the Espadas School of Self-Defense and Swordsmanship opened its doors and began classes. Trevor blinked once at Alex's apology before shaking his head faintly. "Mh, don't be." They'd rarely even spoken about the metahuman quirk that made him all but unreadable by telepaths but he supposed for someone used to knowing the general mood of everyone in the room without even concerted effort it would make interacting with him oddly complex, at the least. Compared to his other mutations it wasn't something that he really needed to deal with himself day to day. "Not quite the host my grandfather i-- was," he allowed, nearly catching the slip of the tongue in time and squaring his shoulders a little more obviously as he powered through all the same. "Still, guests." He seemed to feel that that provided all the clarification necessary as he followed Erin's lead to the largest kitchen. While the others chatted he procured in surprisingly short order three steaming mugs. The one he handed to Mark was a Socotran blend, relatively mild by that standard but just the slightest bit challenging for what he knew of his friend's palate. The earthy almost peaty aroma cut through the worst of the bitterness at least, making up for the lack of Mark's customary sweeteners. Alex's coffee had been produced from a winy shade-grown bean, distinct notes of plum and perhaps cherry most obvious in lingering taste after a sip. For the redhead he'd brought along a little silver tray with a matching set of miniature pitchers for milk and cream and an assortment of what looked like sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and several other options. Evidently he didn't want her to feel as though she was imposing with any additional requests. His own brew was notably several shades darker than either of the other two mugs and could be smelled from across the table. "Your answer for everything," he commented to Mark as he set down the tray and took a seat

"NnnrrRAAAGH!" That, evidently, the monster finally felt. From the way its nostrils flared and it looked directly in Raina's direction it was aware of its attacked even if it could not see her but with Robin holding firm against its trashing and Cathy's ice rooting it to the floor it could do little to make its displeasure more palpably known. Already its previous injuries were fading just as the burns from the witch's first attack had but the sheer overwhelming force of the point blank blast was slowing it down. Again its arms, this as tree trunks, strained against Robin's thighs where they wrapped around its torso but impossibly the Fens' native was not dislodged, displaying strength beyond anything that should have reasonably been possible.

Alright, Staggered means Alkahest doesn't get another Action, so: > 27 - Cathy - Uninjured, 3HP 23 - Hannah - Uninjured, 2HP 15 - Robin - Bruised x1, 1HP 10 - Raina - Uninjured, Concealed, 3HP 4 - Alkahest - Staggered, Entangled, Pinned, 0HP
-
Alkahest GM Fiat: Giving Raina that HP back to clear the Daze condition. Reaction: Fortitude Save vs DC 20: 1d20+14 27 Recovers from Blinded condition. Free Action: Regenerate Bruised condition. Move Action: Escape Grapple; -2 Entangled: 1d20+23 29 I'll need an Opposed Grapple Check from Robin before going further!
-
Coup de grace is only available against Helpless targets. Pinned is explicitly different from this, holding the target immobile but not Helpless. A second successful Grapple check would render Alkahest Bound/Helpless, as would a second successful Snare (failing either an Opposed Grapple Check or a Snare Save by 5+ also results in becoming Bound/Helpless, for future reference). ...and having said that I think there's a reasonable argument to be made that Pinned + Entangled = Bound/Helpless. Yeah, alright! So, that's a Full Round action - Raina can Surge for the extra Move Action to get into place, she's got the HP to burn - and an automatic Critical Hit. Power Attacking that's DC 15 + 10 + 5 Critical Hit + 2 Power Attack = 32. Raina is concealed but with 5' Alkahest gets a DC 20 Notice check to perceive her using an Acute Sense other than Visual, in this case Olfactory. This matted mainly because of the +2 Toughness Bonus from Defensive Roll. Alkahest Notice check vs DC 20: 1d20+10 28 Toughness Save vs DC 32: 1d20+14 18 That's Staggered and Dazed right there! Fortitude Save vs DC 27: 1d20+14 27 Alkahest avoids being knocked out outright for now! Go ahead and post IC, E. 27 - Cathy - Uninjured, 3HP 23 - Hannah - Uninjured, 2HP 15 - Robin - Bruised x1, 1HP 10 - Raina - Uninjured, Concealed, 2HP > 4 - Alkahest - Bruised x1, Staggered, Dazed, Entangled, Blinded, Pinned, 0HP

"Well, one does strive to look one's best," Set demurred, tossing her dreadlocks with a wave of one scale covered hand while she snapped the fingers of the other. In response the sticky shadows on the face of the fleeing high cultist bubbled and popped like a failed soufflé, the expanding darkness covering the infernalist's entire head. Tendrils continued to spill across his thrashing limbs with unsettling splurtching sounds until he was completely contained by the tar-like cocoon, going nowhere. Regarding the final cultist still attempting to make good on her escape despite reeling from the earlier lightning strike, Set planted her hands on her hips. "Shall I?" she asked Ouroboros with the same tone as someone hovering over the last candy in the dish. "Or would you like to do the honors?"

Can Set catch the two free cultists with a single Snare or are they too far apart?

The look Trevor gave Mike suggested that if the broader man hadn't been having such a tough day already he might have had something to say about the choice of beverage; if anything it seemed more like that conversation had been deferred more than avoided. Alex's entrance further distracted him from that grave subject, however, accepting the hug good grace and even stooping a bit to return the gesture with both arms. "Planning is good," he allowed with a shallow nod once he parsed what the offered binder was for. He'd been a little wary of the telepath's natural exuberance but at least unlike Mark she was likely to ask before 'helping'. While he didn't say anything out loud and this mind was as impenetrable as ever he actually seemed cautiously interested in what she'd come up with so far. He'd been trying to come up with an objective metric by which to determine the superior place settings but had paused his research in disgust once mason jars had been introduced as a potential component. "Deserves a medal," he told Mark when he explained that Nina had finally put an end to the way his friend habitually drowned perfectly good coffee. Looking to Alex he spread his hands slightly, still waiting for her order. "Not milk...?" It was a plea as much as a prediction.

Shivering a bit at Eve's touch, Becky propped herself up so that she could reposition herself over top of the petite Frenchwoman before bringing her mouth down again to blow a wet raspberry into Eve's stomach. "Up, up, you terrible, sexy monster!" she laughed brightly as she rolled herself off of the bed and headed over to the closet space set aside for her visit. "I'm reasonably confident the bed is still going to be her this evening and if nothing else I need to eat something -- not what I meant," she added, twisting around at the waist to point an accusatory finger at her girlfriend. Tugging a pink plaid flannel shirt into place over a pair of stonewash jeans, she did continue to consider the question. "I'm not letting you get a tramp stamp, anyway," she decided with an emphatic nod. "You are my classy little lady. And I want you to still be able to wear these." She pulled a pair of lowrise pants out of Eve's side of the closet and held them up with a toothy grin.

Robin's punch landed with a sound less like flesh connecting with flesh and more like boulders cracking against one another. The monster barely seemed to register the attack but it did make a low sound in the back of its throat as Raina's ball of angry flame splashed across its back. For a moment the witch could see the flame-licked skin blacken and twist, more like oily parchment under a candle than how she would have expected a living thing to burn. In the next heartbeat, however, the muscles in its back twitch unnaturally and the burns closed in over themselves, new greyish muscle growing in unevenly until there was nothing to show that the attack had ever happened. The creature never turned around but from her vantage point Robin could see the veins in its neck bulge just before it swung both arms over its head, ignoring the constraints of the remaining ice around its legs as in brought down two massive fists atop the scrappy fighter. They crashed into Robin like a pickup truck being dropped on her from the top of a parking garage and when the girl managed to rise to her feet again even after the blow the twisted mass of muscle finally opened its mouth into a wordless grimace. It continued to stare unblinking at its target even while Cathy's icicles pelted it, the spear-sized projectiles doing no more than raising mottled bruises as they broke against thick hide.

"Well, I didn't see it myself but Miguel would have mentioned if it were anything particularly villain-ish it that's your worry," the nurse assured Mara sympathetically, nodding along with her own words. "No skull-and-crossbones or... well, or what have you." She waved a hand vaguely in the air as if to encompass a whole subset of design choices that she was sure she'd recognize if she saw them even if she couldn't name them off hand. "Anyway! Thank goodness you chased them off. I'll need to let security know, maybe we can have some posted to keep watch..." She made little tutting noises to herself as she finished reorganizing her cart and headed off to make good on that plan. Not letting go of Mara's hand just yet, Ellie craned her neck to look into the coma patient's room. "Probably safe to assume the attacker's not going to just give up, right?" she asked even if they both already knew the answer. Nothing was ever that easy. "We can't just camp out here, obviously. What's the plan?"
