Whatever reaction Nina had been expecting from the taciturn tactician it probably hadn't been for his to step away from his workbench toward her and wrap his arms around her shoulders in a hug that was firm enough to be comforting but had a noticeable stiff hesitation to it as though he wasn't entirely sure if it was the correct thing to do. He held the pose for a long par of heartbeats before shifting back a pace with a faint cough while keeping one hand lightly on the exiled princess' shoulder. "Wrong. Mark. Mark is never afraid," he explained even a little more softly than he usually did. It was a bit of an exaggeration - he'd seen his friend during some particularly low moments, after all - but it was true enough. "Knows we'll win because we're fighting for the right reasons. Faith. I see numbers. Force multipliers. Odd." He tapped a finger of his free hand to the side of his head demonstratively. "Odds are often very, very bad and I can't make luck or lift a car or control water." He allowed the corner of his mouth to twitch upward into something that was almost a smile. "Fear tells me when to be cautious, to fight smart. Never not to fight, though. Because we're fighting for the right reasons." He gave Nina's shoulder a small squeeze, hoping that he'd managed to string his words together well enough to convey his meaning.

"Eugh, how embarrassing," Set whispered into the dhampir's ear as she spotted the cultist's snake themed outfits, pressed closer against his back and shoulder than was really necessary for stealth purposes alone. Seeing which statue was being desecrated, however, he back abruptly straightened and Huang felt a hot breath on the back of his neck accompanying a low, canine growl. "Pardon me a moment." The godling strode out into plain view, smirking face replaced by a long snout and tall, conical ears covered in short black fur, all narrowed eyes and sharp teeth. "Ho, aspholes! Set would have words with thee!" she snarled, accent becoming more pronounced as crimson electricity rippled up and down from her fingertips to her forearms.

With an annoyed sound, Set dropped the rest of the way from the tree branch, flipping midair to land lightly on her sandals. "Very well, safe distance time, fair citizens! I love you too, kisses, now shoo!" Dusting herself off leisurely to remove any little twigs that might have made the trip with her, the godling tossed her brick red dreadlocks over her shoulders and adjusted the straps of her cross halter. Sauntering over to the young man in the trench coat she rested a fore arm on his taller shoulder in a familiar manner and followed his gaze upward. "Hail, handsome. Be that your work blotting out the sun's life giving rays? If so, I'm bothered little but I do know some individuals who might take rather pronounced offense. With the burning and the smiting and so forth. Disagreeable stuff for most varieties of pale, fanged sorts, I'm given to understand." She turned her head enough to give him a winning smile, perfect ivory teeth framed by dark brown-black lipstick that matched the kohl outlining her piercing grey eyes.

For a deity of shadows Set had never really placed a focus on subtlety. Certainly she was stealthy enough to evade Sekhmet's watchful - and frequently disapproving - gaze for the afternoon, though she'd be paying for sending the feline goddess on a wild ibis chase down the line, she knew. Lounging in the branches of a Liberty Park tree in her distinctive crimson-trimmed garb wasn't the most effective way to stay hidden, however, especially once she started waving and blowing kisses to anyone who noticed her above their heads, posing for their snapshots. Still, sometime one just had to get out of the apartment and there weren't that many days of pleasantly warm weather before New Jersey's colder months made their presence felt. The strikingly dimpled young man headed for the memorial garden apparently didn't have much regard for subtlety, either, opening a little pocket-sized portal that hummed seductively with chaos just to retrieve his sunglasses. Then again, perhaps Set simply knew what to look for when it came to that sort of magic and they were terribly cool sunglasses. Curiosity piqued, the godling swung her her lithe frame about the branch, hanging upside down over the pathway from her knees to get a better look. If she seemed mostly focused on trying to guess what the curious mage's buttocks looked like underneath his unseasonably long coat, well. Set had never really placed a focus on subtlety.

"My...?" It took Becky a moment to figure out what Eve was talking about but when she did he own face turned a less delicate beet red. "You mean like claw marks?! Oh my god, Eve!" Letting her weight fall forward on top of the white haired telepath she buried her burning face between Eve's neck and shoulder, nose brushing along her collarbone. From the press of lips against her shoulder, however, the Frenchwoman could tell that the taller woman was grinning. There was no other word for it: the idea of leaving an indelible mark on flawless, aristocratic skin was just exciting. "Where were you thinking about getting it?" she murmured into the sheets, not making any move to removing her pinning mass, "Or should I guess...?" Propping herself up on one elbow just enough to see Eve's reaction the muscular girl mused, voice dropping into a huskier growl. "Maybe I could get a fox in the same spot? Or an apple or the Greek letter for 'psi'? I think I like this idea a lot."

Set Move Action: Feint Fake Horus: 1d20+16 26 Standard Action: Lightning Bolt vs. Fake Horus; Combined Attack: 1d20+7 18 Let me know if the Feint works or if he needs to reroll that attack. Sekhmet Move Action: Demoralize Fake Horus: 1d20+18 28 Standard Action: Unarmed Attack vs Fake Horusl; Combined Attack: 1d20+7 11 Alright, well... nuts. Anyway, Horus probably just no-sells that with his Impervious regardless.

The timberwolves backed up a few uncertain paces as la Renarde Bleue manifested the focused totality of her telekinetic abilities into a very real barrier, their wooden limbs creaking as they tensed. These were no simple beasts, however, and it took only moments for them to changed their approach. One group of the towering canines launched themselves at the glowing battlement, claws like oversized thorns scratching and tearing. They found no purchase but forced the Frenchwoman to maintain her focus while the rest of the pack split into two groups, one racing toward the battlefield where the skeletal jotun were taxing the bluff's defenders while the remainder took the longer way toward the opposite end of the barrier. All the while the summit continued to radiate blinding light with no indication of how the ritual was progressing or how long they might need to hold their ground.

No need to apologize! There's a lot of overlapping terminology in the system so it's pretty easy to get some wires crossed, especially as you're getting the hang of things. Most of the time we're able to help newer members hash that stuff out in chat but so long as we get there in the end, that's the important thing! I'll have the Baboon Guard's actions up shortly.

Freedom City Historical Museum September 7, 2015 It had been nearly a full week since most of the new students had moved into their dormitory rooms at Claremont Academy but to say the acclimation process had been going smoothly might have been a bit misleading. Fortunately enough the school's headmistress was known for her impressive foresight and instead of their normal classes the sophomore students of the girl's dormitory were ushered onto a bus and carted off for what was as much a team building exercise as a field trip. As roommates Raina and Cathy had already been partnered up in the 'buddy system' as had been outlined by the students' chaperone in an explanation that had been as cheerful as it was unnecessary. As the girls were assigned to groups for the day Robin and Hannah joined the familiar faces from their first day, the latter being given a sheet of questions about various exhibits that the quartet were to find answers for by the time they had to leave. With a friendly - if slightly condescending in Raina's opinion - reminder to keep a low profile so far as metahuman powers went they were left to their own devices by the sprawling scale model of Freedom City, circa the early 1900s.

Midnight was fully dressed in a variation of his uniform, having spent a good portion of the journey installing and testing modular components that rendered the more streamlined version watertight but his mask was still undone and hanging loosely about his neck. "Hm? Ah. Said you needed help with something." He hadn't gone terribly into details largely because the simple fact that Nina hadn't asked Mark or indeed the rest of the League to help already suggested it was a matter of some delicacy. If things did go badly for whatever reason he expected it wouldn't take long for a properly motivated Wander to track him down no matter how little information she had. Setting aside a tool on his workbench he tilted his head very slightly to one side and turned to look at Nina head on. "Why?"

"I believe I can see our apartment from up here," Set drawled, having stopped trying to get down from Sekhmet's shoulders and was instead reigning from atop her new perch with as much dignity as she could muster. Unlikely as it seemed, their distinctively garbed group was garnering even greater attention which seemed to go a long way to smoothing things over for the shorter goddess. The look she gave the roller coaster she was being carried toward was somewhat less optimistic. "Eh... I have been endeavoring to avoid the serpentine theme holistically..." Sekhmet snorted and maintained her confident pace toward the back of the line that Phantom had indicated, having been in Freedom City long enough and spent enough time in coffee shops thanks to her charge that she was familiar enough with the idea of needing to wait her turn, galling as it inherently was. "Methinks thee merely fear that thee lack the intestinal fortitude to meet the challenge." Bristling, Set crossed her arms and kicked one of her heels into Sekhmet's side, a gesture the Eye of Ra ignored entirely. "Not all of us be guaranteed to land on our feet!"

Alright, making some educated guesses on what you meant there. Presumably this is Oracle's Mental Blast power, in which case at Perception Range it doesn't require an Attack roll at all but it has a DC 25 Save. I don't see anywhere on her sheet where you could be getting 29, unless that's meant to refer to the superfluous attack roll. If she's attacking one of the Shaken guards then they have a -2 penalty to saves; I'm not sure what you meant by 'a partial save against the Empathy attack'. And again, when linking to your rolls please use the BBCode line so that your GM doesn't have to actually follow the link to see that the result was, like so: 1d20+10=29 Baboon Guard Will Save vs DC 25: 1d20+4 9 23 - Oracle - Uninjured, 1HP > 9 - Baboon Guard x1 - Uninjured 9 - Baboon Guards x1 - Shaken 9 - Baboon Guard x1 - Shaken, Despairing 9 - Baboon Guard x3 - Unconscious 6 - Sekhmet - Uninjured Look that over and let me know if I parsed what you wanted correctly before we continue.

"Sure, girl, let's go with that," Jack agreed with a short exhalation, producing a scuffed metal lighter from his coat pocket and flicking it open. It wasn't like there would have been any argument that would have kept him out of harm's way when he'd been starting out and he'd been at least a few years younger than Echo when he'd put on his first costume. If he was going to feel overprotective toward every smart aleck girl with white hair he ran into that seemed like it was probably more his problem than her's. The little flame from the lighter surged upward like a butane torch and leapt spiralling to his opposite hand, forming a warm orange sword of licking fire, sharp and defined compared to the Metaceptor's light. "Inward and downward, yeah." The cave continued backward at a downward slope so that soon the entrance was well out of sight and still the continued forward. As they went Jack began to feel the hum of some sort of power source, not connected to the city's grid nor anything he immediately recognized. For Echo's part the feeling of impending danger got more and more insistent the further they went and the Metaceptor carried on without hesitation, following whatever trail had brought them all the way from Bench's offices.

"While heavily sedated, for example," Trevor murmured quietly with a sigh that didn't quite conceal the corner of his mouth twitching upward, albeit very slightly. If there was anyone he could could on to be as happy for them as they themselves were, it was Mark. It was just that Mark's excitement tended to come with literally ground shaking displays of raw power. Ushering their friends inside and closing the door behind them, Trevor led the group to the closest living room, a stately loveseat and several large armchairs arranged around a large fireplace. "Engaged," he clarified for Mike's benefit before quirking an eyebrow and adding in a perfectly level deadpan, "Beat you to it, at this rate." He didn't really have much of an opinion about the taller man's conspicuously long standing engagement - if anything the delay struck him as probably wiser than rushing into things immediately after high school - but it did seem as though someone needed to get that particular joke out of the way. Giving Mark a serious look. "No powers, no summoning, no teleporting. High pitched squeals acceptable. Go ahead."

Still red in the face, Set muttered something indistinct under her breath and refused to meet Phantom's eyes. Sekhmet pursed her lips and glanced between the two shorter women before sighing in resignation. Slipping lithely forward, her body rippled for a split second and was replaced with a tawny furred lioness with a distinctive streak of black fur above her eyes. Stalking gracefully forward a step she butted her head between the godling's knees before abruptly straightening back up into human form lifting a startled and vocally protesting Set up onto her shoulders. The redhead's hands and feet briefly became long, black furred claws as she flailed about but Sekhmet kept a firm grip on her shins, securing her in place. "Gyah, what are you--?!" "Hush," Sekhmet commanded firmly, obviously brooking no discussion about the unexpected move even once Set had settled into place, one hand on the warrior goddess' head to stay balanced. Looking back to Taylor she nodded her chin in the direction of the largest roller coaster. "The large structure, from which come the screams of terror. Which be that?"

The ritual had begun to pick up a momentum of its own, not quite out of control but like rising a bike down a steep hill without being entirely certain whether the brakes would slow one down or send one flipping end over end if they were used. In the center Kimber's features were barely visible anymore, washed out by the glow of power and the ring of surging energy spinning about her at a reckless pace. Each of the practitioners held firm, managing their part in the spellwork with the sureness of experience but a ripple of power flashed with blinding intensity and Frost blinked-- * * * Dimitri was in a featureless white void, not bright but merely empty of substance or shadow, his feet connecting solidly enough with a floor that wasn't actually there. Perhaps a dozen paces in front of him was a wooden table with two chairs, damp with rot and supporting a chipped and dirty tea set. One seat was empty while in the other sat a bearded man in a torn officer's uniform of the People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs, buttons missing and hat askew, a huge scraggily beard covering most of the collar. Where his heart should have been was a gaping hole dripping with purple ichor and as he grinned with askew teeth and waved Dimitri forward his eyes glimmered like little shards of ice and steel. * * * The woman standing in front of Siobhan in the empty expanse was well over six feet tall and built like a linebacker, her muscular arms crossed over her chest. Her armor was from no point in Earth's history, night sky black and full moon silver in equal measure, overlapping plates cut through with pipes of raw cosmic energy that sizzled audibly. Her helmet seemed impractically huge with its curving, blocky horns but she held her head as if it weighed nothing at all, wild black hair escaping from the bottom edge and reaching down nearly to her knees. White eyes without irises or pupils blazed with light as she looked down at the witch with a disapproving frown. * * * Snow fell all around Eric, even if there was no sky let alone clouds when he looked up and no ground for it to land on when he looked down. It did collect of the gravestone propped up in front of him, though, and on sallow young man sitting on top of it. His cheeks were sunken and his hair stringy, jacket and jeans practically falling off of his too-thin body as he hummed something distractedly to himself and struggled to support the guitar in his hands. Those hands, where the poked out of the jacket's sleeves, were nothing but bone, skeletal fingers plucking determinedly away at strings to produce an out of tune dirge that had the whole of the youth's attention even as Eric started toward him. * * * Tarva had seen Wraith in her natural form enough times to recognize another Kinigosi but it was clear that something was not right with the metallic being before her. It was a darker hue, certainly, more of a dark, burnished steel that almost blended in with its three black eyes. Only parts of it were properly fluid, however, while others look painfully oxidized, long scars that refused to reshape themselves as the alien tired to stand and collapsed back down again, weak and in obvious pain. It tried again, forming eight long spider's legs this time, with no more success. It took notice of the shadow priestess and bristled with spines, defensive and afraid but ready to fight with desperate savagery.

The leg bone splintered on impact, the flailing skeleton dropping Temperance as it toppled to the rocky ground, brittle limbs falling into a heap. The rest of the towering skeletons that weren't actively attacking the Midgardians continued to shamble forward, heading for the bluff and the lights of the ritual. Even with most of the heroes not actively participating in the spell opposing them the undead giants outnumbered the defenders many times over. Before Wraith could decide whether or not to jump in a low howl sounded from the south. At first all the Kinigosi could see from her perch were dark shapes darting about between the trees, then yellow eyes reflecting the light coming from the mystically charged towers. As the beasts grew closer they resolved into canine outlines, as impossibly large just as everything else on the plane. In place of hide and fur the monstrous wolves had bark and moss, mottled greens and browns colouring their hunched forms. Flora or fauna their snapping jaws and claws each as big as any one of the heroes made their threat clear as they circled at the edge of the treeline, preparing to attack.
