  1. Brian kept going until he was at the very edge of the water and ended up splashing into up to his mid-calf as he slowed to a halt, raising his hands in the air like a champion boxer. "Three time winner of the Claremont Races, and world champion, Brian 'Bomber' Harris, folks!" He splashed out of the lake and dumped his pack on the ground. "As master and victor, I demand that you set up the fishing lines," he said to Morgan, digging in his backpack. He pulled out a wrapped bundle of canvas and shook it out, letting several long metal tubes fall to the ground. "Meanwhile, I'm going to get started on the tent. Last thing I want to do is set this thing up by firelight."
  2. Jessica peered at the robots on offer. They were done up in soft shades of white and pastels, their hard edges encased in soft, molded plastic. "How are autonomous are they," Jessica asked as she slowly orbited one. "Can they administer injections or pass out drugs? What about their power source, how long can a unit last between rechargings? And how well can it react to changing circumstances? The Lab can be a hazardous working environment if you don't duck quickly enough, you know."
  3. GM Hawke shook his head. "I'll cover to Summers for you," he said, "for now at least. Just make sure you get back in good time. And try to keep any of your team from getting killed, or kidnapped, or abducted by faeries or whatever this time?" Perry stroked his beard. "It wouldn't be a bad idea to follow up on any lead you can find," he said. "Sometimes investigation is just a matter of turning over every rock in the forest until you come on the right one." He nodded. "You should definitely follow up on this Mr. Hayden, as soon as you can."
  4. Brian laughed as the pair hiked up the hill. "I don't think I packed the fryer this trip. We might just have to deal with frying them on a spit or a rock instead." the pair kept a good pace up and soon they crested the top of a hill and saw the glittering expanse of a lake spreading out before them, shining in the sun. "You see," he said, shaking Morgan's shoulder. "You were right! It was just over the hill! You were just wrong about which hill it was." He grinned and added, "Race you to the bottom," before taking off at a sprint, heading down the sharp incline as fast as he could plant his feet.
  5. It was a forgone conclusion that the Lab, one of Freedom City's and indeed one of the world's foremost think tanks, would send a representative to such a convention. The only question was, who would they send? Supercape, while as much of a genius as any of the group, was more a physicist than an engineer and therefore not the best choice; likewise Protectron was a dab hand with a spanner but didn't have the in-depth training that would make an expedition here worthwhile. Miss Americana had the proper background, but the beautiful paragon would've overwhelmed the proceedings and made the entire thing too much about the Lab itself, which wasn't the intent at all. Dragonfly could have come, but she was hardly the talkative type. That left it down to Jessica Parker to represent the group's interests at the con, a job she was happy to undertake. She had dressed for the occasion in a tan skirtsuit and white blouse, and walked around the convention hall, inspecting all the various technologies set-up for examination. In time she made it to the robotics area, where humanoid machines of every description were on display. She stopped by one booth that proclaimed itself to be for Samara Industries. "Excuse me," she said to the dark-skinned gentlemen running the booth. "Jessica Parker, with the Lab. Could you explain your product, please?"

Why, step into a suit of power armor and become strong enough to bench-press a tank! This is a PL 7 brawler with a battlesuit that makes them into a PL 10 powerhouse. This build demonstrates two things: firstly, how a battlesuit can change around the focus of a character's abilities (from a canny-but-weak fighter to a strong-but-inaccurate powerhouse); secondly how a battlesuit can be made from another build. This here is Geez3r's Brawler build, adjusted slightly to fit my own mechanical preferences, but with the powers contained in a battlesuit. Another consideration is that this PC is in no way smart enough to build this suit or rich enough to buy it. So how do they get it? In a word: Theft! Imagine a criminal mastermind vexed at every turn by our PL 7 hero(ine) here. The villain develops and releases a horde of battlesuits that enable even the lowliest mook to stand toe-to-toe with the hero's mighty muscles. What is the hero to do... except bash one open and steal it for themselves? With +8 Craft (Mechanical) and Improvised Tools, they can maintain the suit in the field, but they'll be stuck for major repairs or modifications. Time to team up with a proper gadgeteer, perhaps? The build's biggest weakness may be lack of variety. As the PP pile up, consider getting some Power Feats for the S-Strength, or even some proper ranged attacks. Just remember that a Powerhouse is only a few PP from a Paragon. Be sure what you want your character to do!
  7. Winning the big game, of course. ;)

This may be my most conventional battlesuit yet, but in some ways it may also be my oddest. On the one hand it's got all the classic markers of a battlesuit; incredibly intelligent but weak creator, Impervious Protection, Flight, a big ol' combat array, and Super-Senses; on the other hand this is a battlesuit without any Enhanced Strength or Super-Strength, or even full Life Support. Still and all, a solid build for an energy controlling battlesuit. The pilot here is manipulating one of the more exotic energy types: gravity. They can generate a sphere of gravity to blast away at opponents, twist a target's insides with gravitic vortexes, root them in one place or slow 'em down, or lift them into the air. Oh, and don't forget flying, too, that's very important. Potential avenues for growth: any of the options mentioned above, anything mentioned in Doktor Archeville's excellent examination of the subject, or maybe some sort of targeting computer using Enhanced Feat to get the combat maneuvering line. I already alluded to a potential origin; theoretical physicist generates a black hole in a laboratory experiment that goes out of the control. He manages to shut the black hole down, but later on recreates the conditions and boom! Baby black hole, ready for the use! Long enamored by superheros (or perhaps fearing what would happen if this technology fell into the wrong hands) the scientist constructs a suit of armor, powered by the black hole and controlling the force of gravity itself, to fight crime and defend his discovery.
  10. GM Madeline Burke didn't take the news well, staring in shock as El Heraldo described the attack, finally covering her face with her hands. "Oh, my god. Mr. Hayden is going to be furious. He was so specific about how to set up the skeleton..." She wandered away, shaking her head slowly as she started picking through the rubble. Claremont taught classes in media evasion, to those special students who would benefit from it, and so it was minutes later that Subito, Kristin, and Luke were standing outside, waiting to board the bus. Before they could do so, though, they were intercepted by Jesse Perry, who ushered them all the one side. "Well now," he said, his voice rather sterner than they were used to hearing the English teacher's, "I understand you did quite a job there. So much so that Mr. Crowe would like you to help him with the rest of his investigations." He paused and glanced over at Morgan, who was still talking to Leeroy Hawke. "Unless you think there's another avenue for you to explore?"
  11. Starlight gave the man a nod and picked up the glass, carrying it in one hand as he ambled over to the elevator. He gave a short nod to the men guarding the entrance and pushed the call button; when it arrived he opened the door, stepped inside, and pushed the arrow for up before sliding the door closed. On the short trip to the penthouse, the hero took a deep breath and released it, brushing one hand over his costume. He had deliberately chosen not to manifest any weapons this time, hoping to make himself appear as nonthreatening as possible to Finnegan.

Oh yeah, he works you hard and expects you to give it your all every day, but you'd do that anyway because that's what it means to be a hero! You're the quick jibe to his brutal interrogation, the joke to his growl. Okay, maybe your instincts run more towards gadgets than hard-core investigation, but that's just because they're so cool, right!? And then there was that battle with him nemesis, atop the bridge... They both fought to the edge of exhaustion, and they both fell... But the city still needed a hero, and you created something that goes just a bit beyond a utility belt in order to fulfill that need. Here is a PL 6 costumed adventurer's sidekick boosted up to PL 10 caps with the help of good ol' power armor! He takes the do-not-kill rule to heart with a combat array that features no Toughness-related effects, but the suit does make him bulletproof and lets him swing through the city at 40 MPH (provided he doesn't take any sharp turns -- or any turns at all). As far as most power armor builds go, this one is very sparse. Future points could be put towards more APs on the Nonlethal Array, or some Super-Senses, or even a full-on Flight or Concealment if you want to go more of a Batman Beyond direction. As an origin, well, I already gave you one, didn't I? Young apprentice of an established hero, is forced to watch while his mentor dies in a climactic battle with the hero's nemesis. Instead of allowing crime and anarchy to rule the day, the hero uses his knack for technology to build himself a battlesuit, to take the fight to the streets with the power of the Twenty-First Century!
  13. I don't think being part of Lor culture would require a Benefit, nor is there really a Know/Galactic; there are a few Reputation tables that mention that only a person who has exposure to the greater galaxy would know something, but that's about it. You might want to buy her a Comprehend power/Device instead of having her learn several Earth languages. Similarly, I would separate the S-Senses into Visual, Auditory, Radar, et cetera; IMO it makes it easier for a GM to see it all at a glance. Medicine +15 with Skill Mastery makes her equivalent to a neurosurgeon. Keep that in mind. I don't know if the hypodermic gun and suit will be allowable as Equipment. They're pretty powerful in that regard. I don't think there's an inherent problem with a single player controlling both PC and romantic interest, but if you're really worried talk to KD. He controls both Sonja and Gabriel, after all.

Why can't the Scarab fly around in a real suit of armor? Actually, as the pic may have hinted, this build is more based off Gideon Ravenor, an inhabitant of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Dime-store version, Ravenor was an incredibly gifted Inquisitorial acolyte until a disaster confined him to a bed. Rather than give up on life, he constructed a badass combat hospital bed, encased it in inches-thick steel, and used his mythically powerful mind to turn it into a floating tank. Hm... powerful psychic suffers a personal tragedy that destroys their mobility, but they learn to use their mental talents to stay a formidable force in combat? Where have I heard that story before? Leaving aside the parallels, this is a bog-standard battlesuit with some psychic powers outside of it. That can come as a surprise to anyone who expects someone in power armor to be a wrecking ball and not much else! The suit is Toughness-shifted because I imagine a character such as this isn't very agile; the paraplegia would be best handled through a Complication instead of a Drawback, since it wouldn't come up in combat all that much. They don't have Normal Identity because, while they have to put the armor on, they do have some powers outside of it. Future purchases might boost their ability either inside the suit or out of it; buy them Force Field instead of Protection and the suit becomes useful mainly for the attacks it grants. Putting aside the crippled genius archetype for a moment, I could see this as an application of one of the wackier powers in comic books: tactile telekinesis. Basically this character would be a continent-shattering telekinetic... if they had a reach longer than their arm. So instead of buffing it up and becoming a Paragon, they used their mind to build a suit instead! Powers and costume, all in one. I suppose you could also have this as a weak telekinetic who hides the 'triggers' and other control surfaces to the suit inside the walls of the armor itself, requiring one to be able to reach inside with either telekinesis or magnetism to use the suit.
  16. So this is an attack by the Great Hipster? He'll only fight the really obscure heroes that no one's heard about? ;)
  17. Starlight did something she did very rarely; she smiled, kindly, helping to brush the last of Cold Front's binding. "Your victories are not judged by who you stop, but by who you save." She spread one arm to encompass the restaurant, and the numerous civilians who had cowered away from the fight. "All these people will live another day without terror or fear, because of what we did here. Besides," she added, walking up to counter, "it's not like they got away with anything much." She picked up one of the brightly colored backpacks there and opened it up, showing Young Brittannia the stacks of money inside. "They left with their freedom, but not the loot. I call that a win for our side, today."
  18. Brian laughed. He didn't need to eat these days, of course, though he wouldn't turn down a fresh, nicely-cooked fish either. In the meantime though, his pack had been loaded down with energy bars, trail mix, and vitamin water. He dug out a bag of mix from his pack and underhanded it in Morgan's direction without breaking stride. "You don't understand fishing, do you? It's not about whether or not you catch anything. It's about having an excuse to walk through all this!" He spread his arms wide to encompass all the forest. "Seriously, man! How are complaining about being out in the middle of all this beautiful nature?"
  19. Ironclad nodded as the malign energies faded, showing teeth under her helmet. "Well, who knew? The Preservers created user-friendly interfaces." She paused and thought quickly for a moment. "Actually, hold on. If it's this simple to turn off the intruder system, maybe it can help us even more?" She reached out with her mind once more, making contact with the computer system again. She sent a simple request for a full map of the complex; even the Lor hadn't been able to give them that.
  20. There's still a dangling plot thread where CT teaches Glowstar how to use his Create Object better. I'm still not sure how to work that so it's just not two guys hanging out in the forest, though.
  21. An idea occurs to me. Earth is, to the Lor, a sort of nature preserve, set aside from the universe because of superpowers. What if that's what the scientist is studying? A biologist/anthropologist who comes to Earth to study human civilization, superpowers, and how the two interact.
  22. Technology expo? Combat heavy? Sounds right up Ironclad's alley!
  23. Brian came to a halt and watched Morgan for a long minute, then spoke up. "You know, if I remember the map correctly, the lake is supposed to be due est of Pyramid Plaza." He glanced at his watch and then up at the sky. "It's near noon and near the equinox, but since we're in the northern hemisphere the sun is just a bit to the south. Which means if the Plaza is over there." He pointed off to the east, where the tallest building in Freedom City could be seen glittering the bright sun. "So if we just put that at our back and walk for a bit, we should find it pretty easily." He paused and grinned. "Unless you want to walk in a circle for another hour, that is."
  24. Glowstar didn't bother hiding his reaction. He beamed at Fulcrum's praise. This was an established superhero, who had worked with other established superheroes and everything! Heck, rumor around campus was that she had even stood up to Headmaster Summers, which was a damn near legendary feat in and of itself. And she liked what they had done! After a moment he glanced around and got his expression under control. "So. Um. What's the plan now, Fulcrum? Do you want to try running through a group scenario?"
