  1. The words had barely left the plummeting stranger's lips when a second armored hero blew past them, though she quickly turned to grab hold of the ship before it was too late. "If you tried to drop a ship on the city on purpose, I will punch you, with science," she shouted, looking not at the stranger but at the ground, calculating their flight path of doom from a somewhat easier angle. "If you did it by accident I will still punch you, but not as hard." destroy it - shrapnel? - unknown power source - not enough time to verify safety - redirect - brute force? - apparently trying that already - other methods... "Fenris! How well do you know physics? Might need to make spacetime a little angry, here."

Gaian Knight sighed, but he made himself no less ready for battle, adjusting his fingerless gloves as bits of earth and stone picked up off the nearby ground to hover, half protection and half threat, around his body. "Nobody ever wants to take the easy way, and just talk things out. Why is it that nobody ever listens to reason and surrenders or backs off?" Tiamat was not so resigned, cracking her knuckles and grinning. "Because it's no fun. Last chance, though, little serpents - run home, or step off: Fleur de Joie's smarter than you are, and you'd be smart to listen to her. Not fun, but smart."

Initiative Rolls (Gaian Knight, Tiamat) (1d20 + 0=14, 1d20 + 1=15) Two fourteens! That's...weird. You two are weird.
  5. "Spare tent in my pack," Mara called out as she was pulled away, albeit with little protest. "Just in case!" "....she'll understand," she said, as soon as they were out of easy earshot. "Yolanda, I mean. She's smart - don't say that lightly. And she's seen...a lot of things. Will probably figure it out herself eventually." The young woman paused, letting go of Ellie's hand only long enough to duck down and grab a decent-sized branch off the ground. "...sorry. Not very helpful. ...mmh...how much wood, do you think? And dry grass maybe, if there is any; surface area to chemical potential to heat?"
  6. "A very, very careful look," Gaian Knight grimaced, his attention still partly elsewhere and his eyes faintly glowing through the lenses of his goggles. While Fleur had been talking to plants he'd been feeling his way through the soil and stone, trying to get a better idea of what in the world was going on here. "Whatever's causing trouble out there is....you know, I'm not even sure, and I'm not sure it makes sense. It's like something that's either huge or hugely powerful is out there shifting around, causing trouble with the fault lines. But whatever it is, it isn't that far from us."
  7. It took Gaian Knight a moment to adjust to the new world's earth, as it always did - dimension-hopping always left him with the uncomfortable feeling that he'd been briefly blindfolded and silenced before being tossed into a new and unfamiliar room. Still, taking stock didn't take long; it wasn't more than a few seconds before he had an array of stones, some native and some from the pockets of his coat, floating up and behind his shoulders. Not that he wanted to be terribly threatening - and he was sure to keep them relaxed and unshaped - but it was always worth being prepared. "....well," he said, knight and dragon both looking away from the room-dominating machinery toward Fleur and the others, "that's a little ominous, especially coming from you. What do you suppose the odds are that they already know we're here?"

"You might also want the chance to test your new limits," Gaian Knight suggested, as amiable as Fleur now that Tiamat wasn't about to start a god-versus-dragon brawl in the middle of what would normally be a busy street. "You seemed surprised at your new, shorter form - I'd wager you're a little bit less, ah, godly than you might be used to, as well. It wouldn't hurt for you and us to get a better idea of what you're capable of right now." Tiamat had rolled her eyes when Set initially intervened, but now she was looking suspiciously interested again. "So we could throw down." Her partner winced behind the cloth that covered his lower face. "Not out here, at the very least. And I'm sure there's a better way than you and a god trying to punch each other." Tiamat didn't look like she believed him, though, and he didn't sound much like he'd expected her to.

It took Gaian Knight a moment to process that, and Tiamat was no help - she threw her head back and laughed, a full-body show of amusement that put her own prominent set of canines on display. "I like this one!" "That's really not encouraging," Gaian Knight pointed out. "No offense, miss, but I'm not that great with this sword, and I think we'd all rather avoid a fight to the death. I'm pretty sure nobody's questioning your ability to do your job - certainly not with an entrance like that. You don't have anything to prove to us." "Boring, even if you are a terrible swordsman." Tiamat looked awfully disappointed, and took a moment to size the dark-haired goddess up. "...heck, if we aren't playing for keeps, I'll fight her." "I'd really rather you didn't."

Tiamat clearly wasn't sure what to make of Set's response to her deliberate verbal prodding; she was almost certain that she ought to be insulted by the idea that she was somehow favored by such a being - that it should have meaning to her! - but his cheer was infectious and the corner of her mouth turned up despite herself. "My favor is earned, little god," she cautioned as he attempted to hide, but her tone wasn't quite as displeased as she'd intended. Gaian Knight, for lack of someone attempting to conceal themselves behind his frame, had turned his eyes skyward as soon as the roar was heard. "....might need to make that paperwork a double, Nick," he said, putting his hands in his coat pockets to await...whatever it was that was on its way. "And I just repaired the street, too...."

"He still is 'Comrade Frost'," Gaian Knight supplied, swooping in on a platform of earth. He gestured with one glowing hand and the street started pulling itself back together again - not perfectly, as there were still visible seams, but hopefully civilians would have an easier time driving through until the appropriate authority could be by to do proper repairs. As usual, he was accompanied by his red-haired companion, and as usual she was off the platform before it had even come to a stop. Tiamat eyed the new arrival with an air of amused and interested curiosity, digging through what she'd studied of this Earth's mythology. "....not exactly what I imagined from 'Set the Destroyer'," she observed. "Kind of hard to imagine you fighting any serpent bigger than a rattlesnake."

  14. Dragonfly's flight is 100mph/1000 ft/move; assuming she started right below it (which she didn't, making it a hideous approximation, but it'll do), she's a hair over four rounds out at double-moves. A little over three if she moves all-out. 1.3 rounds if she increases her flight by two ranks with extra effort to get a major speed boost for a round. That'll depend on when others can make it, though.
  15. As soon as her suit picked up the panicked chatter, Dragonfly's head snapped upward to try to track the falling object, trying to verify its trajectory...and mostly failing, at this distance. Still, the math held out. She bit her lip, paying surprisingly little attention to the thug she was holding a foot off the surface of the rooftop as he desperately and futilely tried to drive his knife into her arm's armor plating. "...you are very lucky," she announced, dropping him and letting him scramble backwards. Behind her, four blade-like wings of glowing, twisted space burst forth, making only small, adjusting movements as she was lifted into the air. "But will be back for you if I catch you selling guns again. Don't bother going home - police are already there." And with that she took off, heading straight up into the sky as fast as her science would take her.

    Odd Jobs [IC]

Mara raised a curious and faintly concerned eyebrow at Liz's mention of her skill at nuclear shielding - better skilled than unskilled I guess? - but overall seemed fairly impressed. "Good," she noted, running her eye over the design and building a schematic in her head. "Most people just try to reinforce what's there. Which is sometimes fine - often have jobs where we don't make it better, just smaller and cheaper and more efficient - but good to keep in mind that things can change. Especially for safety." She was quiet then, for several minutes, staring off at nothing with her head tilted to the side as her brain turned things over. ".....Erin probably wouldn't like it. But I trust people who trust him," she said, gesturing at Chris, "and he trusts you. Transitive property of...whatever. Would be obvious ground rules, have to say them anyway: company would not protect you if you broke most laws. Possible grounds for dismissal - actually in the contract. Can't use company resources for personal projects without permission. Wouldn't be higher or lower in hierarchy than any other engineers - other than me and my assistant, pretty much a flat company. Split into teams as needed. Means you aren't likely to be in charge of anybody for very long at a time, no 'management promotion track', but also means you only really have to answer to me."
  17. Mara squeezed Ellie's hand as she stiffened, and then slid her own pack off with a satisfied noise, carefully setting it down near the edge of the circle and stretching. "No bears, either," she complimented, casting an eye around the clearing. "Good job. Faith in you is restored. As long as you also know the way back out." She was silent for a beat as she looked around again, and then she ducked her head a bit. "I...have never been camping," she admitted, grimacing. "Haven't even really been this deep into nature when there weren't criminals or vampires or whatever. What do we do now?"
  18. "She might already be aware," Gaian Knight pointed out. "We all know random dimensional shenanigans do happen, but this young woman showing up and trying to 'bloom' here so far from home does seem awfully...coincidental." Tiamat snorted dismissively, though she didn't seem to like the look of the green carpet any more than the others. "It happens - I'd know. But even if it was some kind of stupid accident, they might know now if they're already trying to find out where she went." "Also true. We know they still have technology, and whoever this 'Mother' is, she's apparently quite powerful - who knows what resources she has access to? I'm not ready to jump to the conclusion that it's some kind of plague, but whatever it is, it'd be worth knowing more than we do now, just in case."
  19. GK turns his +Analytical super-sense to the earth, trying to get a better idea of what's going on down there. Tiamat, unless otherwise noted, can be assumed to be taking a readied action to go full-on dragon if a sufficiently big enough threat pops up.
  20. "Well, that's one task down," Gaian Knight optimistically noted as he carefully brought his stone platform down out of the air. He wasn't keen on being near the ground, what with this place's reputation, but they needed answers more than they needed a little extra safety. "And all nine of them, no less - not bad at all." Tiamat was off the platform before it even reached solid ground, muttering something about preferring to fly under her own power; as Gaian Knight closed his eyes and sunk his thoughts into the earth, she stood vigilant guard between him and his plant-shaping teammate, red eyes scanning the area for threats. "Awfully quiet for a place so close to an island full of monsters," she mused, sounding almost disappointed.
  21. "Well, that's...hmm." Gaian Knight sat cross-legged on his stone platform, floating not too far off the surface of the would-be volcano as a piece of stone (carefully liberated from near the top of Kagu-Tsuchi) spun lazily through the air in front of him. "....hmm," he repeated, rubbing the back of his neck before standing back up. "Well, I've got some good news and some bad news, ladies and gents," he announced over his communicator. "The good news is that Kagu-Tsuchi's sleeping peacefully - I'm sure it'll blow up on us some day, but barring interference it's not likely to be anytime soon. Not that they're terribly easy to predict in the first place, but...well, you know. The bad news is that means our seismic activity now has a mystery cause; speaking as someone who can feel it down there, that's making me a little nervous."
  22. GK opens a teleportal to the grounds outside Freedom Hall.
  23. "I think that's reasonable," Gaian Knight agreed. Behind him, the bits of earth and stone that had once been his platform flowed together into a simple archway, though it remained silent and unlit. "At the very least we can't stay here - I imagine we can find a quiet room back at the Hall to sort things out in." He didn't mention it, but it went without saying that 'a quiet room' would also be one with half-decent and preferably subtle security and quarantine. She seemed like a nice young woman - if a little...off? - but there was no sense in taking any chances if she decided it was time to bloom again. The stone archway began to glow, power running along it like the golden veins of the Earth itself and the area beneath it filling in with a soft, warm light. "Fortunately, we're never more than a couple steps away."
  24. Notice Check; Knowledge [Earth Sciences] Check (1d20 + 15=28, 1d20 + 15=26) GK: 28 Notice, 26 Earth Science. Delicious knowledge! And in case it's needed (sidekicks! Good for extra eyes.), Tiamat: Notice Check (1d20 + 10=28)
  25. "Neither have I, but I guess there's a first time for everything," Gaian Knight admitted, chuckling. On the one hand, seeing something like this - the island and the hopefully dormant volcano - wasn't something one got to do often. On the other hand, even a team like this one might run into issues if the island lived up to even a fraction of its reputation..... "I think we'll be okay without tools for now - one of us should be able to make a quick jump back here or back to the city if we end up needing something on short notice." He frowned at the satellite map for a moment, idly resting a hand on the hilt of his sword. "....probably take us in high, I guess. I want to get a better look at Kagu-tsuchi before heading down to see how the fault line's doing."
