"Some of it sounds a little familiar," Tiamat said, watching the woman with the laid-back caution of a predator animal presented with something new and novel. Though, admittedly, that seemed to be how she regarded most things. "The Champions are a team from the West Coast; pretty sure Haruspex was on it, but she's...not, now, I think." That got her a questioning glance from Gaian Knight, as much for the uncharacteristic caginess as the unusual level of knowledge. The woman's story was...unsettling, but there was only so much of that mental discomfort that he was willing to let on to in fear of disturbing or frightening her. Better to at least superficially focus on other things.... "Have you been reading reading the files I suggested? I'm kind of impressed; I didn't think you-" "Daytime television." "Ah."

"Always," Mara replied, with a matter-of-fact tone the meant she thought it went without saying, but was worth saying anyway. "Anytime you need anything. Including bears," she mused, a little louder and directed toward Yolanda. "Ways to stop bears, I mean. Cannot actually supply bears, or superhu--mmh. Superursine bears. But could defeat them. With science. Forest science." She paused, glancing up at the trees, with their twigs and leaves and distinct lack of oil and plastic and metal. "....probably."

Gaian Knight couldn't entirely suppress the involuntary wince at the idea of blowing a hole in the side of a possibly active volcano, but the idea had roots in something reasonable. In his head he was turning over research papers and journals, recalling what he could of research into the area. The problem had always been not being able to drill in far enough, but that'd be less of a problem for him if he was careful of the fault line and could keep himself from getting roasted alive.... "I'll certainly do what I can; it'll be easier to evaluate the state of things once we're on solid land, and I can get a better, ah, 'feel' for what's going on down there. I'll leave the fault line itself alone if possible - they're awfully touchy - but maybe we can bleed some pressure off that volcano before it takes matters into its own hands." Tiamat shook her head and shrugged, arms crossed as she listened to the plans. "I'll go with Fleur de Joie and the stick-in-the-mud," she said, grinning a grin that contained entirely too many teeth. "I dunno how much I can do about volcanoes, but if we're near an island full of monsters it's worth having a monster keeping watch."

Gaian Knight: Knowledge Checks: Current Events, History (untrained) (1d20 + 2=4, 1d20 + 2=13) Tiamat: Knowledge Checks: Current Events, History (untrained) (1d20 + 2=14, 1d20 + 2=19) Both untrained for both skills. Apparently Taimat's been watching some television!

"It's...really quiet," Mara admitted, squeezing Ellie's hand back and flashing her a little smile. "Kind of hard to explain. Can't hear machines like I could when I was little, but still, they're...like being in a room full of people. Can't make out all the conversations, but can hear the background noise of their talking. Makes the forest feel really empty." She used her free hand to adjust her pack a little, taking a deep breath of the March air. "Still. Silence is kind of peaceful. How are you doing?"

pc Fleur de Joie (PL15) - Electra (Orichalcum)
Fox replied to Electra's topic in Archived Characters
Math was off a little on the new, split Disintegration power (should be 13+26+5, rather than 13+29+5), but since the pp total is right I've fixed it myself. Ditto on Stun 20 (46pp, not 47, still within budget). With those fixed: :approved:- 3 replies

Abilities 14+4+4+10= 32pp, not 36pp. Powers You have 14 APs, not 15. Also, you are overpaying even on top of that - 24 ranks at 2pp/rank, plus a feat, plus 14 APs, is 63pp, not 66. Disintegration is a 5pp/rank power; with an extra and two ranks of flaws that's 4pp/rank. 13 ranks plus 5 feats would cost 57pp, not 44. Snare's missing a pp total; by my math you're paying for a 30pp power there, which means that if you wanted to you could drop Distracting off of it. Stun 20, with a flaw and 6 feats, would cost 26pp, not 47. You could easily drop that flaw! The Teleport + Super-Movement makes my head hurt, but I'm hardly one to talk. I've verified that it's legal and within its allowed budget and that's as far as I'm taking it, heh. Tally With the notes above, you're at 234/250pp, not 241.- 3 replies

Gaian Knight and Tiamat had shown up with little fanfare only under Tiamat's protest: she'd wanted to make an appropriately grand entrance, an idea that had been immediately shot down when Gaian Knight pointed out that a dragon swooping down on a ship that was on its way to a place called 'Kaiju Island' was a recipe for disaster. They'd found a spot where they could look out over the water - the hero talking a bit about the science of the ocean and its myriad of interesting features, and the dragon pretending to listen (and, privately, admitting that the ship itself was quite impressive).
-
"Yes," Mara agreed, sounding rather pleased - she'd taken to leaning back against her desk to watch Liz work, tilting her head as her eyes flickered over the notes and equations as they were written. "It is a trap. The question, I mean - had too many people lie about their qualifications during interviews. Almost lost one of the second-floor labs. So now, nobody who falls for that," she emphasized, gesturing at the plans that had almost physically hurt to draw up, "gets hired." "Other one's real, though. Not a real business project - can't show those to people who aren't hired; non-disclosures, confidentiality, whatever. Company lawyer starts making angry faces. But it's an actual, working machine. That needs improvement."

"I'm...afraid it doesn't ring any bells," Gaian Knight admitted, shaking his head helplessly. "I might just need to spend more time reading through our files, but I can't say I've heard of any Eden like the one you're describing. Please, don't worry, though," he added, holding his hands up. "We may not know where you're from but if you need to get back, we'll do what we can to get you there. We just want to make sure you're alright, first - I don't think any of us wants a repeat of, ah...." He trailed off and gestured at the broken glass and decayed plant matter, grimacing. "You gave us a heck of a scare."

"You think?" Mara protested, following behind with a pack which, while not quite as large or heavy as Erik's, betrayed that she was in better shape than first impressions would lead one to believe...though she was pretty sure that too much of this was going to leave her awfully sore. The young engineer had never been camping, and hadn't taken much convincing when asked to try it out - especially for Ellie's sake. She'd quickly decided that the worst part so far was the quiet - like someone struck blind turning their head in search of light, she kept catching herself mentally checking for machines to talk to in the relative absence of the ever-present hum of technology. It was kind of unsettling. "You 'think'. We are going to get lost," she dryly suggested, "and then we are going to get eaten by bears. We will be bear poo. Don't think that's a good way to go."

Mara was quiet for a moment, mulling that over. Whatever gears were turning in her head seemed to come around in Liz's favor, though - when the young woman uncrossed her arms and made her way over to her wall screen, her tone was appreciative. "Honest. Good," she complemented, dismissing the security feed and pulling up two sets of designs: blueprints, notes, even a basic three-dimensional model for each that seemed to match up with the provided plans. "Interview time. Character appraisal done. Skill appraisal: two separate projects, different goals; make them better," she invited, gesturing at the screen and stepping back. "Any way you can. Touch screen should be intuitive; pen's on the cabinet to the left if you want to write on it."

Grapple bonus is the sum of your unarmed attack bonus + str bonus + super-strength ranks + applicable misc. bonuses (size, elongation, additional limbs, etc). In this case, it's just unarmed (melee) attack bonus + str bonus, or +10/+4, give or take. Technically there are a lot of other possible grapple bonuses (+10/+8/+6/+4/etc) but +10/+4 will do. Immunity to Visual Effects seems cheap at 5pp, as normally that'd just get you Immunity to Dazzle, but there isn't really a good place for it. So, good enough unless someone else comes up with a strong objection. 26+22+17= 65pp, not 66pp - you are overpaying by 1pp for your powers.

"Comes up depressingly often," Mara countered, tilting her head at the pair as they bantered. "'Could make so much money with defense contracts!' 'Don't have the tools for electric bullets at home!' 'You can't throw me out, I'm an agent of -' blah blah blah." She threw her hands into the air in frustration, rolling her eyes. "Fun to watch them escorted out, but really get tired of it after a while. So have to assume the worst." The apology got a nod - not a dismissal, but simple and serious acknowledgement and it was clear Mara didn't really think it was worth the fuss at this point. The job-hunting was a little more interesting. "Can't exactly judge you for not getting a degree - own lack of formal education isn't exactly a secret anymore. But if you're that smart, probably have plenty of options. Start your own business, freelance, consult, visit higher-profile companies - ArcheTech, whatever. Why here?"

Mara Hallomen was not exactly the platonic ideal of the owner of a company like HAX - she was neither imposing, nor well-dressed, all 5'5" of her clad in what looked like an old t-shirt and jeans. Somewhat dirty jeans, at that: the center of her office was currently dominated by a makeshift workspace where she was prototyping...something; whatever it was wasn't complete enough to hint as to its final purpose, but it was certainly complete enough to have left a couple of machine grease marks on her legs where she'd been leaning on it. "Hello," she greeted, wiping her hands on a rag. "Know Erin already told you, but we don't do weapons, or things that can be turned into weapons. Don't hire people who intend to make weapons on company time. So if that's really why you're here, going to be a very short conversation."

"Mmh. Been watching on security feed. Actually only got it up a couple of seconds after you'd gotten there - good response time," Mara noted, tilting her head at the nearly wall-sized screen in her office that was usually covered in designs and notes. Right now it was playing the scene down in the lobby from any angle she could get while HAX's sole head and owner frowned and tapped her finger against her radio for a moment. "....'goggles'...okay, yes. Can come up for whatever they want to talk about. And let them keep their...things. Punch them if they try to sneak off, though. Just in case."

"The helicopter's clear - looks like everyone made it out alright, though I don't envy their whiplash," Gaian Knight announced, floating in through what had once been a window and letting Tiamat step down before he hopped to the ground himself. Behind him, his stone platform silently shattered apart into a score of fragments that quietly gathered above and behind his shoulders. "If we're sending her to the League clinic, we'd better phone ahead so that they can get quarantine ready. I'm pretty sure she took out that helicopter with some kind of spores; whatever's wrong with her doesn't seem natural or healthy."

GK stunts: Move Object 13 (Lifting STR 65 [Heavy Load: 100 tons]; Extras: Range [Perception]) [39pp] And he catches the thing with the power of rocks and dirt. Almost certainly not a pleasant landing, but a step up from a straight fall! Tiamat moves in to help anyone inside.
-
"Don't worry, I've got them....!" Gaian Knight might not have had the best vantage point for watching the fight, floating as he was a story or two off the ground outside the building. It did give him a good view of the helicopter's plight, though; even as Fleur de Joie was withering their less-suicidal-than-expected metahuman he was gathering earth and stone from all around, gesturing with two glowing hands to send it streaming up to intercept the plummeting craft. It wasn't the smoothest catch in the world - the fuselage would certainly have its fair share of dents to work out afterwards - but with a healthy share of dirt and some more-or-less gentle deceleration down a ramp of stone that hadn't been there a moment ago, the craft made it to ground in one piece. "Tiamat-!" he shouted - but she was already there, sprinting toward the helicopter to make sure its occupants were in good enough shape to get out and away from danger.

"Welcome back, you jerk," Indira said, standing off to the side of the television. She looked human, other than having let her eyes fill in with solid, featureless black; her body language was a mix of relief and good cheer. Despite that, she really really wanted was to reach out and smack her teammate upside the head a couple dozen times - but it was so hard to determine whether or not he was solid at any given moment. "You perhaps could have told us that you were backed up," she added, though she sounded a little too happy for it to be a proper admonishment. "It would have spared your friends a great deal of sadness."

"Good plan," Gaian Knight mused, frowning up at the building. "She's certainly waiting for something; if she's after superheroes' attention whoever goes up there to talk to her is going to need to play it pretty carefully. You don't attract that kind of attention this way unless you're pretty sure you can handle the possible consequences." He put a hand on his sword, stepping back up onto the platform of rock he'd brought Frost over on. "Hopefully we can talk this out. If not, and she does try to jump - or start something, or launch an attack from up there - Tiamat and I will be nearby to intercept as best we can."
