wait - what Dragonfly snapped her head up from the ring she'd been inspecting, glancing at Ironclad as she clarified something that the armored engineer had apparently missed. "Science Si--mmh! Team. No, sorry." Her tone wasn't impolite, but it was awfully final. "Don't do the team thing. Not very good at it, don't have the time. The Lab is only sort of an exception - not really crime-fighting. Science. Different area." She shrugged, shaking her head. "Still. Shouldn't rely on me. Team isn't a bad idea if you three want to make one."
-
Dragonfly was still putting the last of her armor back on as the others disembarked - she'd opted to remove it the old-fashioned way rather than send it back to high-tech limbo, given the circumstances. Her off-white bodysuit was just visible behind one gauntlet before she clicked it closed, powering up with that familiar hum as she ran some quick diagnostics. Midnight's hand was accepted with a quick but distracted shake - no words necessary there. She owed him a debt she probably couldn't repay...but she'd think of something. "....yes," the heroine said, though with her lower faceplate still open a brief flicker of discomfort at her suit's status could be seen. "Flight, I mean - yes. For you, always. Wing generators are fine." others mostly shot - plan repairs later? - better things to do right now "Mmh! Work - no," she added, as her brain caught up. "Later. Need to review security system, protocols - theft while you were gone - but closing down for a bit so people can focus on other things. Better things. Will figure out how long, send out proper announcement. Also later. Right now...." Space near her back twisted in on itself, glowing with neon blue energy to form four long, blade-like wings. "....right now, think you're overdue to be home." That last bit was directed back to Jill, Dragonfly's mouth turned into the tired ghost of a wry smile. "Promised I'd get you home by ten. Couple months late. Don't want to get into trouble?"
-
"We'll be right over," Tarrant promised, shoving a stack of tests off his lap and onto the desk as he stood up. There they joined similar stacks, a graveyard of papers and quizzes that had all suffered the fate of getting put aside when someone was in trouble. There was always tomorrow.... Teagan raised an eyebrow as her friend grabbed a familiar duffle bag from the shelf behind him, pulling a pair of headphones down off her ears. "Please tell me there's something to punch this time." "Metahuman jumper, looks like - we can't take any chances. C'mon, we've got to go pick up Frost on the way." She snorted, but her obvious disappointment didn't keep her from putting her notepad of translation notes down, standing and cracking her knuckles. "Diplomacy and glorified taxi service. Why not. You know, I distinctly remember you telling me that this life was supposed to be exciting...."

Dragonfly tilted her head, distracted by her umpteenth pass through the computer system; she was determined to make sure not a single picture, not a word, not a character, not a byte of HAX's data was left anywhere. She'd have just found the servers and totaled them if she didn't think there might be something useful there for the others or the police. "Easily reached through The Lab," she noted, apparently missing the point. "Can't always respond immediately, can't guarantee help, but should be able to leave messages there. Or go through Ironclad - she might have better luck."

It's one of those weird little ideas you have where the idea doesn't go away; it sits in the back of your head until you do something with it. This one grew and grew until I had the character properly fleshed out, and here she is...or, at least, version 1.0 of her. She's built on a PL12's budget, which bothers me a little but not enough to do anything about that right now. So many things she needs! All the things. She's an interesting contrast to Mara!Prime - she isn't as smart, she isn't as well-equipped, and she doesn't have the same insane crafting abilities. On the other hand, she's taller, probably more attractive, she's in better shape, and has a completely different set of specialized skills (including social skills!). Her datalink is at least a little bit better, too. She still likes to tinker - and she's good at it, she makes all her own toys! - but it's just an interest, not the interest. This Mara isn't a mad engineer, she's just a very smart gadgeteering cat burglar. Personality-wise, who she is depends a lot on what she's wearing. (No, really. Not like- oh, shut up. Not like that.) In her civvies she's probably a little withdrawn - she doesn't have Mara's Fearless, and she still doesn't like crowds or hostile people much, so she keeps to herself and lacks a little bit of self confidence; in her catsuit, mask, and goggles, she feels anonymous and it frees her up to be a little more fun-loving and sassy (with a penchant for flirting shamelessly with attractive heroines, partly for the fun of it and partly because she just doesn't get much of a chance to off the job). Think Peter Parker vs. Spider-Man, almost - she puts on the mask and becomes who she wants to be, an ideal version of herself, and over time that'll be who she really is. She steals because it's fun, and because she thinks that there are people who just don't appreciate the value of what they have. She really likes art, she likes high-tech gizmos and widgits and doodads; her upbringing and personal moral code have given her a whole lot of disdain for honorless jerks and petty crime bosses and the like. They clearly won't appreciate that priceless statue like she or a good buyer could. Surely they won't miss it. (Or, at least, won't miss it in time!) Besides, she likes her creature comforts and personal projects; these things don't pay for themselves! She isn't perfectly optimized and there are a few holes in her abilities (or a few things that she could really use), which is partly the constraints of the budget and partly me giving her room to grow. E-CBM!Mara isn't supposed to be the world's greatest thief, she's just a really, really good one with some special tools who's just starting to come into her own. I figure as she progressed she'd pick up at least two power levels, a rank or so of Gadgets, a fancy motorcyle, and some improvements to her tools and skills. Some of these changes would just represent her getting better, and some would represent her shifting focus a bit - as she ran into more and more high-powered threats (villains and other heroes, say) she'd have to focus a little more on combat and being able to adapt quickly to new threats.

[bg=#555555]"Careless,"[/bg] Dragonfly observed, frowning at where the two had been standing. [bg=#555555]"Very. Should have checked them better, or neutralized bodies. Caged or pocketed, maybe. ....next time."[/bg] Little lights could be seen in the heroine's lenses as she tilted her head to poke at the now-vacated shells of their enemies. [bg=#555555]"...still. Foundry. Known threat, can work with that. Can probably track down local technology deals, make them regret the thefts. Unprofitable. Best revenge."[/bg] She'd made her way over to the ruined, would-be orbital weapon as she spoke, not-so-carefully extracting HAX's gravity lens and associated components from the business end of the devastated device. [bg=#555555]"Need to get this back to safety - can't leave it behind. Assuming you'll have to do the same for whoever called you."[/bg]

Mara just held Ellie close for a moment, smiling. "Love you, too. Always." She sniffed back a tear or two, and chuckled. "And, yes, shower for you would be good. Both of us, I think - had to disable most of my suit's scrubbers a while ago, and the rest is barely working now. Kind of gross in my bodysuit, here." She offered another kiss before reluctantly pulling away, holding onto her girlfriend's hands and pulling her deeper into the ship. "Come on. Helped put this thing back together - happen to know where the best shower is. Closest to the cycling tank. Optimal heat and water pressure. Everyone else can find their own."
-
[bg=#555555]"You didn't know--!"[/bg] Dragonfly's response was initially a sort of choked surprise, only mildly distracted by ordering her suit to vent or contain its heat better so that Ellie wouldn't have to let go. Anything but that. [bg=#555555]"Suit doesn't matter. Can build another from scratch if I have to. But you...didn't know where you'd gone, or if you were...."[/bg] The faceplate on Dragonfly's armor split open on invisible seams, panels clicking back and out of the way so she could give Ellie a proper kiss before pulling her in and leaning her head against the medic's. "Shut up. Worried about me. Watched you - not you, but the wrong you - watched the wrong you get...." She sniffed, sharply, as she fought back tears that could wait for later. "Found you," she whispered, in a voice that wasn't sure if it was supposed to be laughing or crying.

Flat-footed defense was off on Nicki and Merge (+1 vs. +2, +4 vs. +3, respectively); same deal with Merge's Duplication - the pp cost works out correctly for 5 AP's, but it still listed Alternate Power 4. I've taken the liberty of fixing these myself, since they're minor notational things and really not worth making you go back and edit again. Looks good otherwise. :approved:

Dragonfly tracked the progress of the Grue ship as it tried to ram them, glaring at it as if its actions had been personally offensive - not so much because it had tried to crash into them as because it had seriously endangered the smaller Lor vessel and its precious cargo. That wouldn't stand. That wouldn't stand at all. Her suit lit up again, but this time the space outside that turned in on itself was just a little off-center - the stars just behind the Grue vessel could be seen to bend and warp as her spatial quagmire formed just behind the rolling mass of space-faring flesh. The young engineer growled something unfortunate-sounding in Russian, forcing her creation to lash out: the nearly-invisible disruption in the fabric of space and time grew toward its target like a living creature after prey, and this time there was no escaping. The young heroine's battlesuit was clearly not quite up to the strain, high-tech glass on one of her gauntlets audibly cracking and its pitched hum turning into one of clear protest. It held, though - and with its flexed plates, built heat, and bright glow, it seemed as irate as its owner.

Try to ram us, will you.... Mara turns her Snare on the ship (Grue 6?) that tried to ram them. DC21 Reflex vs. Snare. EDIT: Informed in chat that they actually saved! Can't have that - surging (EDIT: extraordinary effort for 2xSurge, since it's a full-round power) to try again.

Sheet checks out, other than the Swimming array. Please note the Alternate Power feat(s) on the Swimming power itself - or, alternatively, build the array with the actual Array structure. Speed and Leaping are both 1pp/rank powers. As such, the two APs there are actually just 3pp each, meaning you could model the array as: Swimming 6 (100 mph, 1000 ft/rnd; Feat: Alternate Power 1) [7PP] AP: Speed 3 (50 mph, 500 ft/rnd) + Leaping 3 (x10) [3 + 3 = 6/6PP] And then you'd have an extra pp to put somewhere. Note that I'm using the shorthand of (ft/rnd) ~= (mph * 10), which is good enough for most threads you're in. You can be more precise if you like.

Math math math...my apologies for anything I miss. It's been a long week! Nicki Per the house rules, a minimum of 1/3rd of a character's attack and defense, rounded up, must come from base. 1/3rd of 10, rounded up, is 4 - Nicki, with only 3, needs to either drop her defense total or boost her base defense. Grapple bonus is Applicable Attack Bonus + STR + misc. modifiers. With an unarmed attack bonus of +10 (assuming she's grappling unarmd), and a STR bonus of +0, that's a Grapple bonus of +10 total, not +6. I would be inclined to let the Medium flaw on ESP count as a -2pp/rank flaw (in which case it's less 'Medium' and more 'Limited 2'), to be honest, seeing as the -1pp/rank version generally covers relatively common mediums (tv screens, shadows, etc). You may want to check with other refs, though, to be sure that it isn't just me. Merge A note here: I like that the powers section gives the flavor of making copies without actually making copies, which is interesting and fairly distinct, but keep in mind that Merge won't be able to mechanically have minions or duplicates, even by stunting, as entities created via the Summon power cannot, themselves, use the Summon power. On a similar note, please keep in mind that posts made with only Merge and not Nicki will only count for 1/2 credit, as Nicki here is being built as the actual hero, not Merge - mechanically Merge is basically Nicki's sidekick. Grapple checks are Applicable Attack Bonus + STR bonus + misc. modifiers; +10 attack (assuming she's grappling unarmed) + 8 STR = +18, not +14. Throw in the Super-Strength and that's +26, not +22. The Feats section lists Dodge Focus 6, but the Combat section only gives a +5 bonus. Additionally, there are 16 total feat ranks listed and only 15pp given - drop that extra Dodge Focus, though, and it works out. I'm not familiar with the Miss Chance Only flaw on Concealment. Where'd you pull this from? The Duplication array pays for 4 alternate powers, and lists 5. Gotta either pay for the extra, or drop one off the list. Snare is over-budget - Snare 8 costs 16pp. With Engulf (+0pp/rank) and four power feats (+4pp), that's 20pp total, not 16pp. Camera Obscura Looks like he has two feats, not one, as noted in the Feats section - the final pp tally looks correct, however. I'm a little leery about putting the Limited (Machines) flaw on something that's already limited to entities capable of receiving radio waves. The list of things that could perceive radio waves and aren't machines is vanishingly small...I'm happy to let other refs overrule me here if they think it's reasonable, but I'd like to at least get a second opinion.

Dragonfly swore to herself as she built a mental model of the area in her head and suit, rapidly crossing off her standard offensive options - the distance was just too large. The ship itself had offensive weaponry for this kind of fight, but her suit wasn't made for this scale of battle. On the other hand, the fact that it was space - empty, airless, unpopulated space - meant that she could play a little more fast and loose with the quality of the fabric of reality.... Her suit spun up, armor plates flexing outward to vent the heat that the over-stressed inner workings started to generate as she concentrated on the view and her mental model of their surroundings. Little flickers of warped space twisted across her gauntlets and back like distorted lightning, but the real show was outside: the Grue ship unfortunate enough to catch her attention first shuddered to a halt as the universe wrapped in around it, a cracked and fragmented mire of broken, twisted reality growing across its surface like some kind of awful, hungry thing. [bg=#555555]"Probably not going to hold it for long,"[/bg] she said through gritted teeth, mentally dismissing a half-dozen warnings from her suit. [bg=#555555]"What's the phrase - light it up!"[/bg]
-
Oh, Dragonfly. Why must your offensive array be so small? Dragonfly stunts: Snare 11 (Extras: Range [Perception], Transparent; Flaws: Action [Full-Round], Distracting) [22pp] My kingdom for more pp to play with, here; building the power into an area attack big enough to encompass the whole Grue squad would be wonderful, but we'll make do. With their high damage bonus the target's likely to break out on their next action (unless those attacks are +Area!), but they'll waste their turn doing so and in the meantime, best case, they'll be set up to take a bad hit. Maybe. Hopefully. Dragonfly attacks Grue Ship #1: DC21 Reflex save vs. Snare.

Dragonfly wasted no time: with no clear threats left she turned her attention back on the assembly area, flying back down to the ground and tearing into it with her spatial blade. Even with the androids around - especially with the androids around - she couldn't be sure how automated the assembly process was supposed to be. She wasn't inclined to take any chances. [bg=#555555]"Assembly's shut down,"[/bg] the heroine broadcast, letting her sword unfurl back out of existence. [bg=#555555]"Any more threats in the area? Might be good to sweep before law enforcement arrives, if civilians called them. Also need to find any sort of central archive, make sure no records of stolen plans and technology survive."[/bg]

Dragonfly stared out at the Grue fleet, blankly, trying to decide whether or not she should have expected something like that. [bg=#555555]"...every time we try to go somewhere, princesse,"[/bg] she quipped, though with a bit more strain in her voice than she'd have liked. At least it was the Grue - that was a known threat. She could deal with that. Hopefully. [bg=#555555]"If you can get them to hurry up with the Curator, that'd...be good. Will try to buy time. Need to delay a firefight as long as possible - drive the Grue back if we can. If we can't...finish not-blowing-up and be ready to leave, fast?"[/bg]
-
[bg=#555555]"Jill."[/bg] The strain and anger in Dragonfly drained out of her, the extraordinary relief in the young woman's voice easily audible even through her suit's voice filter. [bg=#555555]"I'm real. We're - real. It...we would have come sooner if we'd known. Only found out recently; almost actually thought you'd---never mind. Can catch up soon. As much time as it takes. Need to get you all home, but...smashing into each other?"[/bg] Dragonfly had been processing the sheer size of the constructs outside the ship in the back of her mind, but now she turned to give them another look, biting her lip as she did some rough math in her head. [bg=#555555]"That's...a lot of mass. Don't like the sound of that. How are they doing?"[/bg]
-
Dragonfly's heart rose and fell in the same instant, an awfully conflicting feeling that left her disoriented for a minute. Jill! Ellie! Her Ellie, which probably - maybe, hopefully, oh please - meant that she was okay. At the same time...months? [bg=#555555]"We hear you, Dorothy,"[/bg] the armored engineer replied, almost but not entirely keeping her voice level. [bg=#555555]"And we...we know. It's why we're here. Can fill you in later; right now, probably need to-- fixing the Curator?"[/bg] She'd been looking forward to a lot of things involving the Curator on the way out here; none of them had involved fixing.
-
No sooner had the purple-haired woman (cyborg? - curious - study later - stop now) fallen aside than a series of bolts of twisted space rained down on their many-armed adversary, Dragonfly still hovering in the air and letting him have both metaphorical barrels. One down was good, but with the way that thing punched they would be better off with him joining his comrade on the floor. [bg=#555555]"Probably want to just give up now,"[/bg] she suggested - apparently to the psychic robot still floating nearby, though she didn't turn to look. [bg=#555555]"Heavily damaged, could destroy yourself by trying too hard. Alternatively, try anyway - pretty sure I could patch you together before you failed completely, and would save us a little trouble."[/bg]
