  1. Wraith hummed thoughtfully, turning her head in an awfully boneless way to look at Eldrich as he appeared; she didn't have any magical abilities of her own (and wasn't very connected to the magic community, for that matter), so her reaction was somewhat more subdued than Kimber's, but she had to respect the man's air of authority and position. She stopped menacing their frozen captive and politely stepped away, body pulling together into a less threatening and more humanoid form and self-consciously brushing a bit of remaining frost off her stomach. "Thank you," she whispered back, more than happy to let someone else talk to 'the boss'. "Perhaps that is who he called earlier, to take care of the basilisk?"

  3. "Well, pretty sure I'm not going to be able to impress anyone after all that," Tarrant chuckled, getting to his feet with a self-depreciating grin and trying his hardest to not feel old. Man, what do they teach these kids these days? "Still, I guess I'm up." He hefted his sword again to re-test its balance before giving Erik a surprisingly serious bow and settling into a simple, solid fighting stance. When he stuck, there was nothing flashy or elegant about it - not that he was a poor fighter, but his way seemed more cautious: simple, strong blows rooted less in fancy footwork or aggression and more in confident, efficient attacks. Still, while he was likely to be able to defend himself against many, he was clearly not quite on par with his teacher.
  4. Well, Tarrant certainly has some tough acts to follow! Melee Attack Roll vs. Erik (practice sword) (1d20 + 8=24) Swing and a miss! But not by as large a margin as I'd have expected. IC pending checking something with Giz in chat.
  5. Mara only mostly succeeded in suppressing a snort of laughter, rather unsuccessfully hiding her mouth behind her glass. Not that it was very nice to laugh at her employees, but Ellie had as much talent as ever at calling it like it was, and the fact that three of the four people present had what could charitably be considered 'emotional health issues' was at least a little amusing. "Mmh! Yes. No family of my own to celebrate with - mmh, sort of, need to talk to you about that later Ellie - but want to be there for Yolanda's first. Not big on large...social...things, but worth it. And suppose I can endure Ellie's family," she added with a dry air of feigned regret, "for good food and Yolanda's sake. If I have to."
  6. "No." Wraith's reply to Rogue's master plan started in her normal, human, pleasantly-accented voice and ended in that odd Kinigosi hum as her features melted away, the young woman literally flowing out of her clothes and turning into something low and sleek, with a curious crown of long, wicked spines arcing up off her no-longer-human head. "There is no glory or dignity in your massacre." She was off like a shot, clawed digitigrade legs propelling her into the fog as each arm became long and boneless, one forming an oversized three-fingered claw and the other host to an unusually large hammer head. There was a moment - just a moment - where she paused, three dark eyes sightlessly staring into the icy shroud as the spines that ringed her face twitched and flexed...and then she was on them, an awful silver thing that would appear out of nowhere to slam into a commando and leave them knocked out or dragged off into the mists to be suddenly silenced, unseen.
  7. Move action: Shapeshift! Enhanced Feat (Takedown Attack, to Takedown Attack 2) [1pp] Super-Senses 2 (Accurate Normal Auditory) [2pp] Speed 1 (10mph / 100 feet per Move Action) [1pp] Strike 4 (Feats: Mighty, Power Attack) [6pp] [1+2+1+6 = 10/10pp] Wraith can heaaaaar youuuuuuuuu. Move action: Close in on the nazis. SURGE: Standard action: Some Nazis want to get into a fight for their country. Oblige them. Wraith's attack bonus is +11; with a full power attack that's +6, which should be just enough to hurt some fools while taking 10. DC30 Toughness, using Takedown Attack 2 (if possible) to nail as many of them as she can.
  8. Wraith - with apparent reluctance - formed her arms into a makeshift chisel and hammer and set about cutting Milliner's head free of the ice so that he could do meaty things like breathe. And, she realized, talk. Her eyes narrowed at the thought. "I have excellent reflexes," she informed the man as she finally freed his mouth, bringing her face next to his and staring at him with her three, solid black eyes. "And I can see right through your invisibility. I also do not like you, at all, and believe you to be a very terrible person. If you attempt to cast a spell, or if you are annoying, I shall hit you on the head until you stop."
  9. "That...is terrible," Mara said, though she almost immediately winced, blinked, and shook her head. "Sorry, no. Not what I meant. Not terrible to help people, or spend time alone if you really want to. Just...have had maybe two, three Christmases where I wasn't...mmh. Where I could enjoy it. Seems best to spend it with people important to you. Warmer, maybe? Not exactly social, myself, but seems a shame to not...it...rambling, sort of. ....sorry. Tired." She'd been gesturing, to go with the thoughts she couldn't quite express, and she held the pose for a moment to focus her thoughts on making sense. "...just...mean that it might be worth trying to spend holidays with her. If she can be convinced to be social. ....that's kind of saying something, coming from me, too."
  10. Initiative Roll (1d20 + 7=11)
  11. Tagging this before I forget it, because that's a thing I do.
  12. Naaagh. No, you're absolutely correct. This is what vacation and plane-borne sickness does to my head. Don't take vacations, kiddos. They make you weak. I'll get this fixed up ASAP. Probably before you read this post!
  13. Absurdist's pp awards have been fixed on the respective sheets and the above award post. My apologies for the confusion - it wasn't your fault at all.
  14. "I do not believe the concern is that you do not deserve your revenge," Indira said, frowning at Rogue with no small concern, especially after hearing Kimber's translation of 'Ragnarok'. "Terrible things have been done, and you deserve justice - and we do realize that we are outsiders, and have only so much right to judge you. But what you are talking about, it...." She frowned, trying to phrase her thoughts properly. "Even if you can manufacture a cure, it is my understanding that bioweapons are extremely difficult to control, especially on a world so rich in life. You would kill those who did you no wrong - possibly even those who would be your allies. And - ah, I do not believe you will like me saying so - you will become closer to being what you seem to hate?"
  15. "Not...my party," Mara cagily defended, pushing the screwdriver deeper into her pocket where it wouldn't give her away. "Company party. Difference! Besides, wasn't gone that long. Had a good idea for redesigning the circuit board layout on a project. Had to try it. Mostly worked. ...promise I'll stay here, now." She waited for an opportune moment to steal a quick kiss from her girlfriend - nothing to interest most of the people at the party, but enough to apologize for abandoning the area for a bit. She came back looking thoughtful. "....not bad, actually," she observed, pulling her hair back behind her ear and taking a sip of her wine. "Might have to try it after all. If I finish the drink I have."
  16. Indira paid the Lor conversation only half an ear, instead focusing on not crawling up the wall to get a better view of what was going on. She would have especially liked a better idea of what exactly was being done with those crates - a better sense of scale, maybe - but she settled for inspecting one from as close as she could get without being underfoot. "'Contagion'. 'Contagion'." She hummed for a moment, frowning. "Is that not... - Sharl?" She turned her head, frowning. "Is this not...what is the term. A biological weapon? Is it being moved for safety, or for use? I am surprised it is here at all - I would not have thought it a good idea to use a weapon like this in areas with civilians."
  17. "Please do not poison my head of security," Mara deadpanned, having wandered over just in time to see Erin spit her drink back into its cup. "She'd be hard to replace if she died. You'd be hard to replace if she killed you before she died." The grand poobah of HAX had, rather unusually, dressed up for the occasion - or, at least, at some point she'd been properly dressed up. A bit of her hair had expressed its desire to be free of the rest and was hanging loose by her ear (despite her repeated, unconscious attempts to pull it back behind said ear), she'd lost her tie at some point, and the pocket of her dark blue blazer had a screwdriver just barely poking out - both a betrayal of the reason behind her minor dishevelment and an explanation for where she'd been for the last while. Still, she was markedly more fancy than most of her employees had ever seen her. "On the other hand, should probably switch drinks," she dryly mused, gesturing with her glass of wine. "Poison myself, and might not have to deal with crowds anymore. Kind of forgot how many employees I have until they all got into one place."
  18. Indira opted to remain outside, undeterred by the weather as she crouched next to the human remains, inspecting without touching. She'd given up trying to maintain human-looking eyes for the time being, and it didn't really help her expression be any more readable. The young woman's face was oddly passive for so much death, looking out over the signs of fighting with an unsettling mix of curiosity and remorse reflected in her solid black lenses. "It is my understanding that you are monsters," she said aloud to nobody that even her own superhuman vision could see. "Still, I cannot help but feel that you may have deserved better than this."

    Player Away Thread

Flying up to Washington to visit some family from the 14th through the 17th; I'll have some presence, and I'll be trying to check threads and the like, but I probably won't be in chat and certainly won't be around much at all until I get back.
  20. Other than doing his level best to not give any Grue room to get past him and through the opening to where Fleur and the kids were, Gaian Knight paid his attackers as little mind as he could. Most of their claws seemed to meet an unusual amount of resistance anyway, for human flesh - the only one that got a piece of him couldn't do more than scratch him. Though, apparently, that was enough - only seconds later the hero's stomach turned over, and he took a deep breath to try to focus on what was important. Not the aliens attacking him, of course, but if those others managed to break through that rock.... With apparent disregard for the more immediate, clawed threat he swept out a hand, bits of stone from the top of his wall breaking off and raining down into the Grue trying to tear earth away from the coffins.
  21. "It would perhaps be best to remain inside for now?" Indira cautioned, though her eyes had filled in black again and she was weirdly still, like a cat that could see prey. "If there is a fight, it will not take us much time to reach her and Sharl. I do not know what these soldiers are used to seeing, but as soon as someone like you or I joins the fight they will know that they are under attack by a super-human force; two intangible people who appear from nowhere is less immediately threatening, if they are superstitious enough."
  22. GK isn't particularly keen on letting the grue chip away at his rock. He put effort into making that rock! It has sentimental value. Ranged Attack Roll vs. Grue 1,2,4 (3-target autofire blast; -3 multi-target penalty, +2 all-out attack, -2 sickened) (1d20 + 12 - 3 + 2 - 1=20, 1d20 + 12 - 3 + 2 - 1=26, 1d20 + 12 - 3 + 2 - 1=29) DC27 Toughness for those hit. GK's at -2 defense until his next turn, 'cos that couldn't possibly end badly.
  23. Indira's eyes were had grown larger than any human's had any right being; even in the rain they were solid black, empty and reflectionless as she saw death through Kimber's magic. It took her a few seconds after the vision to snap back to reality, her eyes returning to human and her arm - which had reflexively become a long, scythe-tipped tendril - pulling itself back together into a set of proper human joints and digits. She had to admit, as she made it back to the bus, that it wasn't the worst outcome - not the best situation, of course, but she could deal with metal men. And if she got hurt, she'd have some walking meals....
  24. Indira had no prayers for the fallen; she didn't know them, or their worth, and couldn't assume they'd want the sort of prayers she was capable of providing anyway. Instead she stood in the rain, trying in vain to catch some hint - any hint - of what had happened here. But in the rain there were no smells; in the fog- and forest-shielded road there weren't any unusual creatures to watch. It was frustrating. "I do not speak German," she finally replied, frowning. "We...perhaps should have brought a dictionary. I do not suppose the bus has a translator of some kind?"
  25. It took Wraith a moment to realize what happened; from her rather perplexed perspective, Gregory talked about retreating, activated a rune...and then changed color and tried to run away? The alien teenager clearly had no problem tracking him, head turning rather bonelessly on her neck as she followed his progress right up until she realized that she couldn't hear his footsteps anymore - apparently he'd done something that passed for stealth, but by then Nick and Ghost Girl had him caught and frozen. She picked up the manticore cub and carried him over, the still-frozen chunk of her torso slowly thawing. "How long do you believe he can survive in ice - can we keep him in there for only slightly less time than that?"
