  1. Coup de Grace! Auto-hit, auto-crit, DC31 Tou save, and DC21 Fort if she takes damage but keeps ticking.
  2. Steve raises a good question, actually - just to clarify, is the signal live? My impression was that it was already repeating, so they're listening to a recording, but I am sick and my feverbrain lies to me sometimes.
  3. "Well, that's it," Mara half-idly countered, still frowning at the code. "Seems like you'd need something better just to run the dimensional technology. Granted, not too different from...mmh. FORTRAN, maybe? Probably good for computation. But still. Wrote my own language and designed custom hardware just to bend space - had to invent new math - and even I don't mess with dimensions when I can help it. Dangerous science. Easy to reach other dimensions. Hard to make sure nothing there is reaching for yours." She crossed her arms, tapping a finger against her ribs as she pondered. "Means...well. It's code. Means what it does - function determines message determines intent. Implies intent, anyway. Need a compiler...." She tilted her head, the screens surrounding the code blinking to life and rapidly - very, very rapidly - filling with a more terrestrial program. Text and windows appeared, wrote, and deleted themselves as she examined and refined what they'd gotten from the suit. jump code - right, yes, links there, memory address - will have to simulate that virtualized? why not space/time concern isn't large may as well dynamically address it this must be a branch - no - loop? - branch is over here - odd syntax - doable overflow assumptions? - test case - right - yes - no - no - must be - would crash otherwise, never exit loop - assignment? - but where is - ah! - untyped - well then Eventually - though 'eventually' was pretty short in this case - she snapped out of it, head going upright again as she remembered that she had probably just drifted off completely. "...mmh. Right - sorry. More interesting that expected. Test run three, I guess - well, one, first two probably don't count if they're in my head. Test run one." She rather unceremoniously reached over and hit enter on a keyboard.
  4. Heh. Glad I put that in the post, because I had her make them before I realized there was an OOC thread.... :D
  5. "...what is...." Mara cocked her head at the signal as her system caught it, little lights dancing behind her eyes as she gave her lab's (thankfully isolated) computers some basic instructions on how to display it. Very basic, in fact. She stared at the code as it was written to her wall-mounted monitors, the engineer's expression blank and a little disappointed, honestly. "...that's...no, why would you even...really? ....really? Who has the technology to send this kind of signal and uses it to encode...no, can't be right. But would be gibberish otherwise. Wh....mmmmmmh." She scowled - partly at the problem, and partly at herself for forgetting she wasn't alone in the room - and turned to her two employees, gesturing at the screens (which, with another thought, she switched to an old-school green-and-black display theme, just because). "It's...basic. Not Basic, I mean, the language, but...basic. Insulting. Was looking forward to cracking it. But this is....mmh. Not very good at metaphors. Like hoping for alien science and getting 'Xenomorph's ABCs'. Not sure what it does yet, though. Hopefully something interesting."
  6. Mara made a mental note to try the break room coffee one of these days, grumbling under her breath as she set up a...something...next to the work table the suit was resting on. Like most of her on-the-spot inventions it was more function than form, all wires and bits and pieces, glass and steel and things unknown to general science on a five-foot pole with tripod feet. There were already a couple of them nearby in a rough triangle around the table. "Would like to know," she finally said, once her mouth wasn't occupied with holding some wires awaiting connection, "why Daedalus knew who I was. Guess it's almost expected. But should find out - not known for spatial work as a civilian. Too specialized, too easy to link to Dragonfly - unpublished, don't personally do contracts on the subject. Granted, Daedalus, but still." She flexed her fingers a little, stepping back to give her third device a grumpy, critical eye. "Concerning."
  7. [bg=#555555]"Prefer magic and technology to 'mental tricks', anyway,"[/bg] Dragonfly grimly offered, advancing on Lady Lunar. Her right gauntlet flexed a bit, a long, glowing blade twisting into being about an inch off the knuckles of her closed fist. Every so often a little twitch or stutter would run down its length, the insubstantial weapon seeming a bit more insubstantial than normal. [bg=#555555]"Also, her magic? Impressive. My technology? Advanced. Your psychic powers? Not nearly enough to save you. But think you've figured that out already."[/bg]
  8. Wraith shapeshifts: Enhanced Ability 2 (Dex +2) [2pp] Hide in Plain Sight [1pp] Speed 1 (10mph / 100ft per Move Action) [1pp] Super-Movement 3 (Slithering, Wall-Crawling 2) [6pp] [2 + 1 + 1 + 6 = 10/10pp] (Hide in Plain Sight is assuming that there are enough metal objects/walls/whatever inside the ship that she can camouflage as necessary, though she'll be sticking to vents, crawlspaces, and ceilings when possible.) Stealth Check (1d20 + 16=35) Well!
  9. Well! I think that's certainly worth some more teamwork. Extra effort stunt: Strike 11 (Extras: Selective Attack) [22PP] (Spatial Blade) Can't be hurting the snare while she does her thing! Move: Dragonfly moves over to Lunar. Standard: Dragonfly begins a coup de grace action (which won't complete until her next turn).
  10. "It is difficult to say without knowing more about what we are getting into," Wraith admitted. She'd shifted a little when Sharl had picked her up, providing convenient handles to be carried by and slimming her body a little to reduce the drag of the digital wind as they flew. "If we knew that we had time and safety it would be a very good idea to do...what is the word - ?" That last bit was in Lor, and she narrowed her eyes as she tried to translate it, not that she really needed to. "...is it 'scouting'? If they were able to waste a fairly formidable shapeshifter as a distraction and can shield an area from your senses, whatever Rogue is planning is likely to be well-defended or a trap. I do not like going into a prey's den blind."

Tarrant's Journal So, uh. I sort of have a dragon now. Well, I don't 'have' a dragon. I don't even know if it (he? she?) is sapient, so I'm not going to claim ownership of something (somebody?) that may be a thinking, feeling person. But I have it/him/her in...custody, I guess? So here's the thing: a while back I ran into a young heroine - very much the science-and-metal type - and we teamed up to stop a villain in Liberty Park. One of those 'remake the world in MY image!' types, you know. I haven't seen her much since then but at some point she accidentally kidnapped a giant flying lizard when Quirk sent her to some kind of medieval world. I guess the locals were going to kill it...she wears a full, high-tech suit of armor now, but her body language when she had to explain how she accidentally kidnapped a fire-breathing mythological creature was hilarious and kind of adorable (though I think she's hurt me for saying so, and I'm not sure I'd blame her). Anyway, I guess with the whole sword and armor and magic thing she figured I'd be better-equipped to deal with it than she did, and I figured that at the very least I could...I don't know. Keep it on Sanctuary? I'll have to discuss that with Fleur at the very least. It's in some kind of stasis right now, courtesy of the young inventor, but eventually I'm going to have to decide when and how to wake it up and see if it's...man, I don't even know. Intelligent? Reasonable? Best case, I make a new friend. Worst case, I lose limbs or get eaten. I'm not entirely sure how those balance out. I guess I'll have to decide eventually.

  13. Freedom City University, March 7th, afternoon “Um, Professor McLeod?†No, no, what are you – agh, you’re going to sink us into the bay if you do that. Very carefully Tarrant reached out through the earth, shoring up the deep fissure that threatened to send a city block toppling into the South River…or worse. I really wish you’d cut that out – I guess I can’t blame you, though if you don’t know how- “Professor?†The voice was a little more concerned this time. “Right! Yes, sorry, Sarah.†At least, he was pretty sure it was Sarah. She was the one who always wore those heavy boots to class, right? He could feel the impact they made when she nervously tapped her foot. It’d be easier to tell if he could see. At all. Being able to see would be nice. All the hero knew about the cause of their troubles was what the news had managed to provide – something about a mutagen, and that most of the city was in a suddenly-empowered panic. He’d been teaching class when he first saw it hit, one of his students sprouting wings…and then he saw nothing at all. At least he’d gotten a boost to his other senses in return; he counted no less than seven geokinetics out there who were barely in control of their newfound abilities, and at least two who seemed more than happy to deliberately cause as much trouble as possible. “Jonathan’s not looking so good. He, uh, he has gills, I think, and he’s having trouble breathing....†He could feel her trying to keep it together, that thump-thump-thump of her boot toe against the ground. He could feel all of them, really – every individual movement painting a picture of the classroom in his mind. Sarah’s...what, a freshman? Good kid, keeping a level head. Right, water...hm. “I think one of the other professors is running a filtration experiment down in one of the basement labs; she has a big tank set up that I don’t think she’ll mind if we borrow. Hey, Max!†He felt somebody turn around, worn sneakers sliding against the classroom floor. “You and Jason go down to lab two and start filling up the big plexiglass tank. Sarah, pick somebody and go to my office – here’s the key – grab all the salt crystals you can find from there and the storage room in back here, in case he needs saltwater. I’ll be down in a bit.†“And the rest of you!†He turned his sightless eyes to where the rest of his class was sitting; most had gone when the changes started hitting in earnest, but the ones that were left apparently didn’t know where to go or what to do. Let’s change that. “I think we’ve been sitting around for long enough, hm?†Tarrant smiled, as warm and relaxed a smile as he could manage under the circumstances. “If you want to head home I won’t stop you – but please go in pairs, it’s going to be chaos out there – but if the rest of you want to stick around I think it’s high time we did a little good around here. Split up – teams of two or more, please! – and check the building for anyone else that might need help, alright? When we’re done here we’ll move to the other buildings, and try to meet up with anyone doing the same.†It was with great pride that he felt the – admittedly reluctant, but moving – footsteps of every last one of his remaining students pairing up and heading toward the door. It almost distracted him from somebody about to bring down a parking garage closer to midtown. Almost. That’s the third time today; what’s with you and parking garages? Come on, let’s put that pillar back together so that the whole thing doesn’t come down on anyone inside....
  14. Dragonfly knew a set-up when she saw one - both from fighting alongside Jill and from having them used on her more often than she'd have liked to admit. As her girlfriend launched the obvious jab the engineer settled back into her stance, bringing both hands together to build a single, heavy distortion. It licked and clawed at the air around her hands, and when she let it go - when the moment was right, and not a second before - it tore through the air toward Lady Lunar like an awful, hungry thing bent on devouring everything in its path.
  15. Well, let's not let that feint go to waste! Dragonfly spends a hero point to gain Power Attack for one round. Ranged Attack Roll vs. Lady Lunar (blast; Power Attack -5/+5, All-Out Attack +2/-2) (1d20 + 11 - 5 + 2=17) 26 (base) + 5 (power attack) = DC31 Toughness save, if that hits her. Dragonfly is at -2 defense until her next turn.
  16. [bg=#555555]"Might make crazy thing more likely,"[/bg] Dragonfly noted, tilting her head; she'd expected an actual counter-attack. not used to resistance? [bg=#555555]"Royal families; heavy inbreeding, I think. Not good for mental stability."[/bg] The young heroine settled back a little, putting one foot back a little to brace herself as she raised her hands and gave Lady Lunar both proverbial barrels, a rapid series of shockwaves clawing and spinning their way through the air toward the malevolent monarch. [bg=#555555]"Anyway. Not really in the habit of holding my tongue for anybody. Certainly not you - interrupted what was supposed to be a nice moment."[/bg]
  17. Standard action: take advantage of the shield to shift some caps around! Ranged Attack Roll vs. Lady Lunar (blast; Power Attack -2/+2, All-Out Attack +2/-2) (1d20 + 11 - 2 + 2=26) Assuming that hits, DC28 Tou. Dragonfly's at -2 defense until her next turn.
  18. Dragonfly dodged a couple of steps to the side as the column of force hit the ground. psychic - telekinetic at least - adjust tactics - need to pay attention to possible mental influence [bg=#555555]"Know that there's only one of you, right?"[/bg] Dragonfly asked, her voice still sharp with ire. She raised a gauntleted hand, launching a no-frills spatial shockwave Lady Lunar's way to offer Jill a moment of breathing room after she escaped the psionic villain's attack. [bg=#555555]"No more monkeys. Just you, singular. And your craziness. Craziness doesn't really count, though. Won't save you."[/bg]
  19. Good ol' reliable blast - no tricks, no toys this time. Ranged Attack Roll vs. Lady Lunar (blast) (1d20 + 11=23) DC26 tou.
  20. Wraith waved as her newly-electric friend took off, her other hands - plural, as she'd grown a few for the task - using whatever cords and cables she'd managed to find to bind their defeated enemy as securely as possible. "We should probably hurry, then," she noted, tugging on the makeshift restraints. "Only...hmmm." She stretched her neck around, turning to face the shapeshifter even though the rest of her body was still tying her arms. "I do not know if you are able to change your shape enough to escape, and we are in a hurry, so I will make you this deal: if you escape, harm nobody. You may stay here, or you may leave the city - the simulation itself, perhaps - or you may hide. But if you hurt anybody, or if you cause any trouble, I will find you." Her three black eyes narrowed to slits. "I do not mean that I will find you, here, and remove you from the city, though I will very likely do that too. I will find you, wherever you are on Earth, and I will hunt you. It will be very fun - at least, it will be very fun for me. You, I think, will enjoy it less. Okay?"
  21. Dragonfly's armor lit up on the tail end of her mini-rant, plates around her gauntlets and shoulders lifting apart just enough to let the inner workings shine through as space around her started to warp and flicker. She didn't seem to be aiming at anything in particular, though - the twisted space just built up around her armor and then bled away into nothing. And then the world broke with an awful skrack!, the fabric of reality badly twisting and crumpling in on itself in a pretty good radius around the heroines who stood safe in the eye of the storm. The effect didn't last long and the faint wisps of smoke trailing out of her suit as the armored plates settled back together spoke of the strain it put on her invention's systems, but Dragonfly was apparently not in the mood to be messing around.
  22. Works for me! Dragonfly isn't really up for messing around. Extra Effort stunt: Damage 11 (Extras: Area (General Burst, 55' radius), Selective Attack, Flaws: Action (Full)) 22pp DC22 Reflex, DC26/DC20 Toughness for any monkey within range, plus Lady Lunar. Ellie and the air-making machines are deliberately avoided, of course.
  23. Hmm. 'bout how close would you say those monkeys are to our frustrated Freedonians?
  24. Wraith bowed her head for a moment, mouth closing back up while she mulled the new revelations over. "If Rogue destroys the city, would not all the citizens die as well?" she asked, turning to look at Sharl with questioning eyes. "If a virtual shapeshifter was able to bounce me against the ceiling - and I was able to feel the pain - would a native citizen here survive the city being destroyed? I suppose if they are like you, perhaps they'd survive, but where would they be? Would they be left on your computer network without a city to live in? It is a very confusing motive."
  25. Initiative Roll (1d20 + 7=15)
