  1. Wraith's first instinct was to go for her blades - make them, that is; they were her preferred weapon, certainly, for all that she didn't have much opportunity to use them these days. But she hesitated, the scythes half-formed, and if she'd been human (or just had a mouth) she'd have bitten her lip. Shapeshifters seemed to get such a bad reputation on Earth...for all she knew this thing, strange and vaguely horrible though it might be, was just lost or exploited. She shook her head, charging up toward the tree-like creature as her hands came together to form a single, massive spiked mallet. Her body lunged down and to the left as the weapon came down, smashing it directly into the thing's side at an angle.
  2. Smashy-smashy-time? Smashy-smashy-time. This thing's probably an acceptable target, but Wraith wouldn't be sure (not having your human shapeshifter prejudices). Move Action: Shapeshift. Elongation 2 (10ft) [2PP] Feat (Power Attack) [1PP] Strike 5 (Feats: Improved Critical [19-20], Mighty) [7PP] [2 + 1 + 7 = 10/10PP] Standard Action: Charge! Wraith was moving away from the cell toward the door, so I'm assuming she has the 10' minimum charge distance. If not, let me know and I'll revise. Melee Attack Roll vs. Dark Young (megaton mallet; Power Attack -5/+5, Charge +2) (1d20 + 10 - 5 + 2=24) Yes, that should do. 25 (base) + 5 (power attack) = DC30 Toughness save for the Dark Young, there. Wraith is at +6 defense until the end of her next turn. She will be interposing for Papercut in the event he gets attacked and she's in a position to do the interposing.
  3. "Now, see, 'ere's the thing," the thug leader added, as if he was explaining something that was perfectly reasonable. Mara shifted a little up on her rooftop; this wasn't awfully comfortable, physically or mentally, but if it had to be done.... bring a blanket next time - will remember - and maybe try bribing them? "Me and the boys, we're really stand-up, citizen types, y'know?" One of the other thugs snickered. "We'd just hate t'see anythin' bad happen to you. An' we'd love t'safely see you through our little piece of th'city, but we got families, sick grandmothers, and things. Our time is valuable, y'see? So I think we'd be willin' to show you th'safe way through t'th'other side for maybe...everythin' you've got on you but th'clothes on your back. That seems fair, right boys?"

Mara made a snorting noise, hiding her mouth behind one hand to disguise the laughter she was (mostly) trying to keep down. "Armor adds a few inches," she managed, if only barely, between recomposing herself and the moment passing. "Much shorter without it." As the pictures started (hate pictures - should smile? - won't bother if it isn't genuine), she spoke again with less volume and more sincerity. "Thank you," the engineer directed to Ellie, while trying to not look like she was whispering. "Think I owe you for that."
  6. Wraith bristled when Sharl mentioned 'alien gods', but she was willing to let it pass - personal beliefs were just that, after all: personal. It wasn't her place to criticize what others believed in, any more than it was their place to criticize what she- She narrowed her eyes, stretching head-first down off the ceiling like a single, massive drop. Partway down, though, her three-eyed head stopped and turned to regard their electronic teammate. "It must be very hard," she noted in a voice that could have given the frost outside of the room a run for its money, "to believe in nothing." Then she continued her decent, collecting herself back into a more humanoid form on the ground. "I do think that Citizen is correct for our course of action, however. It...seems somewhat strange that this could be connected with a work of fiction, but no matter where this 'milk' came from it clearly has an effect on the students. Mr. Summers may know what we should do about it."
  7. Wraith hummed, making a very amused and human-like snorting noise at Citizen's impromptu Lor impropriety. "Do you mean 'us' alien, or 'human' aliens?" she asked, scuttling off across the walls and roof toward the plexiglass cell. "It does seem very sinister. Milk is a fluid that comes from a female mammal, if I am not mistaken?" She blinked her three black eyes, turning her head back toward the others. "I will ask, then, the obvious question: if this is the milk, where is the mother?"
  8. And I am apparently all the ponies. Also, I match with the averages suspiciously well. I think that makes me either very average or very balanced. As a pony. Hm.

That one Mara was ready for, if for no other reason than she'd had to answer it over and over in varying forms both during setting up the first few contracts and over the course of the new employee interviews. So, she rolled her eyes a little (not terribly diplomatic, but she couldn't not) and brushed some hair back behind her ear. "Success. With success, I mean - it's an empirically testable theory. Stupid theory, but testable. Free market: if I'm too young or...female...to run a supertech company in Freedom City then HAX will fail. Might fail for other reasons, of course, but should be obvious which and why. If HAX doesn't fail - if it succeeds, grows, makes money, gets contracts, competes - then I'm not too young or female, and their biased theory is proven stupid to everyone. Not easy, but simple."
  10. Wraith relaxed - some - when it was apparent that her friend was more afraid than hurt, and not in any clear danger. At least, she assumed Kimber wasn't hurt; the alien's three big black eyes picked up a lot more of the spectrum than a human's, but she was pretty sure that there wasn't a part of the spectrum that her ghostly roommate couldn't hide from. Though, on the note of the spectrum, those three big black eyes blinked, head stretching down a bit from the rest of her body (which was still partway up the wall, and gathering a little bit of frost when she wasn't moving). "Ghost Girl?" she asked, carefully, to the general area in front of the door. "Are you okay? There...is something very odd about the door, here. I do not know where you are, but I do not know if it is a good idea to touch it."

Mara raised an eyebrow, trying to figure out what 'Joan Collier' was getting at. Her mind flipped through everything she knew about the woman, but it wasn't much - she did have to admit that the reporter was more physically impressive than the pictures she could pull from her memory had implied. not much to go on - what I deserve for not watching news - probably should do that more - right - question - straightforward "Yes," she replied, flatly, the eyebrow still raised. "Different business model, obviously, but yes, competition. And, before you ask, very much taking advantage of Archetech's recent...problems. Timing is not a coincidence, though probably would have started company soon anyway."
  12. Mara waited rather impatiently as the minutes passed, peeking back up over the lip of her roof just in time to see Carrie, scarf and all, making her way down the street. about time - hmm - timing? - hard to judge distance at this range - hope this works - should be interesting Almost as soon as Carrie walked under the unlit street lamp a group of thugs seemed to peel their way out of nowhere - a couple from a nearby alley, one or two from the shadows, and one - a rather big fellow with a nose so crooked it practically told the 'yeah, but you shoulda seen th'other guy' story all on its own - who stepped out of a shadowed doorway and right into Carrie's path. Mara was pulling most of this from memory - her memory - so she was rather pleased with the pitch-perfect gravelly voice that managed to even reach her on her rooftop where she was directing the action. "'ello there," the biggest of the thugs said, in an almost-friendly tone. Almost. "Now what're you doin' on our street? Ain't safe to be alone sometimes, you know."

"Yes. No." Mara pulled a face, glancing at the people on the other side of her muscle (hee), looking a bit like she wanted to make them disappear with the power of her mind, now that their purpose was served. not a good idea "Not a good idea. Never drink to excess, obviously, but bad image, maybe. Would feel weird in front of other people anyway." She paused, and blinked. "Unless you meant water, or something. Not thirsty. Thank you."
  15. Mara sat - in her civvies - on a rooftop overlooking the streetlamp and frowned. She had a laundry list of things she'd like to have done better about this whole thing, but there hadn't really been time to address any of them. She'd liked to have been able to set up a camera so she could work more remotely, she'd liked to have found a power source so that she didn't have to re-wire the streetlamp and make it go out, she'd liked to have had a better cover - on the unlikely off-chance somebody found their way up onto this roof - than a pair of cheap binoculars and a bird-watching guide from a local 24-hour store. no time now - phrase - 'showtime'? - should be soon She backed away from the edge of the roof, out of view, and waited.
  16. Indira's mostly sticking to vents and the ceiling, to stay off-camera as best as she can for as long as she can; power or not, she doesn't know what kind of backups the place has and she doesn't know when the power'll come back on. Hunter shapeshift configuration, if it matters, though I doubt she can hit her full 100 mph while navigating a building. She's gonna darn well try, though.
  17. Wraith didn't need to be told twice. With her teammate - and friend - in trouble, she was gone. She didn't even bother trying to stealth her way through the milling students: in the space between the room going dark and the students trying to provide their own light she was up to the ceiling, a scuttling, flowing ghost of a form making its way after Kimber by any surface that'd hold her weight and any crack that'd let her through (which, formless as she could be, was most cracks). She wasn't sure what to expect, but if it was hostile, she was pretty sure it wouldn't expect her.

Mara blushed and ducked her head at Ellie's compliment, apparently completely unable to keep her composure this close to the crowd and suppress her pleasure at the praise. "Mostly glad it's done," she admitted, casting another eye over the collected people. "Well. Almost. Still some basement installation to do, some equipment for sensitive labs needs to be built. Can work on that later. Don't need it yet anyway. ....glad you came. Easier to do with you here. And you two, of course," she added, to her two super-security members. "I have muscle now." She sounded amused at that, at least.
  19. Presumably Dragonfly spends the time setting up; did you want me to go ahead with her sending the address, or did you two want to get a post or two in before that?
  20. Wraith frowned a little - something she was getting better at in alien form, though the general lack of facial features still made that a challenge - and privately wondered whether there was a way to disappear without suspicion and go spy on people from vents or crawlspaces. There was chatter around, but she was having trouble getting much solid out of it. "What?" she asked Koshiro, distracted, and then blinked her three black eyes. "Oh, yes. Poisons...I had forgotten those are such a problem. The reaction here does seem somewhat...odd, I think. I feel like there are too many things we do not know."

Mara looked at the people (too many people - who did HR call) looking an awful lot like she wanted to crawl under something dark and wave a stick at anybody who came near. probably not a good idea - bad pr - could use a drink - also probably not a good idea "Thank you. Office - yes. ...no. Want to leave, probably shouldn't. Can endure for a while; probably good for me. Think some employees are going to start offering tours of low-security areas soon, anyway: show off a little, or...something. Should thin crowd a little."
  22. "Mmh." Mara was going to have to think of an excuse not to take that offer of a free meal, later; for now, she leaned up against an inert drone, tapping a finger against its heavily-plated leg as she pondered what she could do and how fast she could do it. "....will need at least a few hours," she said, finally, frowning. "Couple to build, another to set up. Will send you address when I'm ready. Am probably going to have to be there somewhere to direct; no time to make a good recording. Mmh - and don't touch any of them when they show up. Not going to have much time to protect them from that. Will make it obvious they're not 'real'."
  23. Construction time! At a distance, with no interaction, on short notice, Mara's going for flash over substance here; these are the sort of holograms that look good but don't always react immediately and futz when something goes through them. Illusion 1 (Visual and Auditory senses; Feats: Progression [Area] 2 [25-ft area]) [5pp] Design check isn't even worth mentioning. Craft check is DC15, taking 20 hours; Dragonfly can take ten for a check of 30, -5 three times to halve the crafting time three times - 20/2/2/2= 2.5 hours. IC pending GM approval.

  25. There was silence, for a bit, as Mara tried to decide whether or not she really wanted to know how this whole thing got started. In the end, she erred on the side of fewer headaches. "Could...arrange something? Maybe. Think I have security footage I could use to construct...mmh. Assuming it's short notice?" She frowned, taking stock of what she actually had lying around at the moment. could fly back to warehouse - scavenge here, too? - salvage a drone for parts "How staged? Some things easier than others. What all do you need, how soon?"
