Mara faded into the background a bit, stepping away to poke through the racks while Thrude and Willow figured out what they wanted to wear. She did okay at dressing herself, of course, but didn't tend to spend that much time worrying about her wardrobe; she was more than happy to leave the sage advice to the experts, and could pretend to be busy while keeping an eye out for people taking too great an interest in the six-foot goddess, the eight-foot amazon, and the white-haired dryad. ....that was the plan, anyway. Before too long she was perusing the racks with interest, pulling an item or two out to be frowned at before getting shoved back with its brethren. Not that she planned to fill up her dresser with shoes and dresses or somesuch, but there were a few items here and there that might be flattering if she could find a good belt or vest....

Words were a nicety extended to people who could be talked down, not people who'd just stabbed a teammate in the chest with an improvised knife. No sooner had Fleur's poultice hit the man in the face than Gaian Knight charged up from the side, his sword and sheath pulled free of his belt and swung like a big leather-wrapped club right into the man's ribs. He tried to follow up with a strike with the taser, too, but the extra weight of the sheath fouled him up - pulling him just off-balance enough to keep the electric device from connecting.

Melee Attack Roll vs. Bad Guy (swordclub!; Aid Attack [from Fleur] +2) (1d20 + 8 + 2=28) That'll do. Sadly, it's just a DC20 Toughness check. Really gotta buy GK some more STR. And hey, what the hell, let's get fancy. Follow that up with: SURGE: Melee Attack Roll vs. Bad Guy (taser) (1d20 + 8=14) Ah, well. It was worth a try.

Dragonfly hadn't been idle as she climbed: the plates on her gauntlets had lifted away a bit, mechanical pieces inside turning, sliding, and adjusting as she fed instructions and math into her control systems. When they finally had enough height she spun in mid-air, charging back down at the dragon....and missing, whatever strange distortion she'd been building up dissipating only a few feet from her hands as she was forced to turn to the side to avoid fire and gnashing teeth. That got a few new choice words across a couple different languages, but if she could just not get eaten in the few seconds it'd take to build another charge....

Extra Effort stunt time, and a hero point (the last hero point!) to waive the fatigue. Damage 10 (Extras: Linked [Nullify]) + Nullify Flight 10 (Extras: Effortless, Linked [Damage], Flaws: Range 1 [Touch]) [10+10= 20pp] Melee Attack Roll vs. Dragon (damage+nullify; Power Attack -2/+2) (1d20 + 10 - 2=10) Well, at least she can try again in a round....

Gaian Knight gave Custos a polite nod, but otherwise his attention was on the hallway to the east. "That certainly explains the smell," he noted, frowning and adjusting the cloth over his lower face. "At least, unless there's a new sulfur exhibit over in the children's section." The earthmover's voice may have been calm but his own powers betrayed his mood somewhat: bits and shards of rock had collected themselves from around him as soon as Changeling and Equinox mentioned demons, arranging themselves in a small but bristling array above and behind his shoulders. Hands in his pockets and sword sheathed or not, he was clearly ready for a fight.

With Eira adapting well and the rogue - or maybe that was Rogue? - in Miss Americana's custody, Dragonfly backed out of the room and made her way to the nearest convenient window. Her wings deployed with gratifyingly little protest, though her suit was more than happy to inform her that its function was a little limited at the moment; not terribly keen on dropping out of the sky the engineer made her way to meet the authorities at a somewhat more leisurely pace than she'd have liked. Dumping the collected villains out into a pile, at least, was satisfyingly dramatic. She gave a concise explanation of what had happened (carefully neglecting to mention Miss Americana's prisoner) before excusing herself, insisting that if they wanted further information they really ought to talk to Magnus...and took off back into the sky toward the hospital without giving them a chance to come up with a good argument.

Mara was caught between not wanting to be within three city blocks of 'Trudy' and the commotion she was sure to cause...and just being really, really amused. She settled on the latter, the hint of a smile playing at the corners of her mouth. "Might have found someone worse at dealing with people than me," she noted, trying to keep her voice low enough that Thrude couldn't overhear. It wasn't very nice, but she didn't get an opportunity to feel socially competent very often, and she wasn't going to let it pass her by. "Didn't think it was possible. She's...trying? At least?"

Initiative Roll (1d20 + 0=12) Sadly, this is still one of GK's better init rolls.
-
Dragonfly's suit had some rather ominous things to say about large objects in her proximity; she wasn't entirely sure why she'd bothered installing that warning, since every object big enough to trip it wasn't likely to be very subtle. She gave the creature another distortion to the face before shooting up into the sky above it, wings adjusting a bit as she climbed as high as she could before it had a chance to turn and attack again. come on - chase the dragonfly - just need to get some height
-
Dragonfly coughs up one of her two remaining hero points to waive the fatigue before it burns out her suit. What's up next? Is it more of the same? I think it is! Ranged Attack Roll vs. Dragon (blast; Power Attack -2/+2) (1d20 + 10 - 2=20) DC27 Toughness for the dragon. Dragonfly moves out of its way again...almost straight up.
-
[bg=#555555]"Trying to take you down before villagers can kill you,"[/bg] Dragonfly explained, not that she really expected the dragon to listen or understand. [bg=#555555]"Would be much easier if you'd lay down and let me knock you out."[/bg] Both gauntlets flared, and she launched two blasts in rapid succession...and then swore when they didn't seem to do much. With the beast back up on its feet she put some distance between them, still trying to lead it away from the village. going to kill that Quirk - and then design something for taking down dragons

Long fight is long. Bleh. Ranged Attack Roll vs. Dragon (blast; Power Attack -2/+2) (1d20 + 10 - 2=12) No. Reroll. Ranged Attack REROLL vs. Dragon (blast; Power Attack -2/+2) (1d20 + 10 - 2=15) 25, though it'd hit even if it wasn't a reroll. DC27 Toughness for the dragon. Dragonfly surges (and will pick up fatigue at the start of her next round if she doesn't use a hero point to get rid of it): SURGE: Ranged Attack Roll vs. Dragon (blast; Power Attack -2/+2) (1d20 + 10 - 2=17) Another hit! Thank goodness for size penalties. DC27 Toughness, again. Aaand then her move action to back off at least a little - to 200ft, say, above and to the side away from the village. Maths: Dragonfly started with two HP; she got one for Datalink being useless, she got one for the fiat, she spent one on a previous reroll and one on this reroll, so she's back down to two (one, if she waives the fatigue later).
-
Not for the first time, Dragonfly found herself wishing her suit had some capability or another that it simply didn't have, in a situation where she wasn't in a position to do any tinkering. She pushed designs for spatial capacitors and energy buffers out of her mind, though, as she saw the villagers marching her way; that promised to make a bad situation worse and her second volley's poor result certainly wasn't helping anything. [bg=#555555]"Think I'm going to need a new plan."[/bg]
-
Once more, with feeling. Ranged Attack Roll vs. Dragon (blast; Power Attack -2/+2) (1d20 + 10 - 2=22) If it's unconscious, she'll zip in closer to prepare to pocket it.
-
Dragonfly's heart wasn't quite as cold as she typically liked people to think, but she didn't have a lot of sympathy to spare for creatures that incinerated villages. Still, if she hadn't been planning on killing the dragon, she certainly wasn't now; she had to admit that the creature had a certain beauty to it as she launched a spatial shockwave straight down into it. should probably make sure villagers don't kill it - don't care what it's done - don't want to be responsible for its death - just as long as it's not responsible for mine
-
Ranged Attack Roll vs. Dragon (blast; Power Attack -2/+2) (1d20 + 10 - 2=24) Oh, sure, good rolls come when the dragon's grounded and stunned. Why you gotta do this thing, Invisible Castle? Why you gotta. DC27 Toughness for the dragon, again.
-
well - got its attention Dragonfly wasn't awfully keen on finding out what those big, big teeth would do to her armor; as she built up another distortion around her hand she reflected that - if this was some sort of game - dragons were probably designed to fight knights, and probably didn't think much of of a little metal. even my metal [bg=#555555]"Too slow,"[/bg] she critiqued, sending the distortion at the dragon with considerably better accuracy than last time...and then taking off away from the village, hoping to lead the thing away from people she couldn't be sure weren't real. [bg=#555555]"What you get for violating physics. Shouldn't be able to fly at all on wings built that way. Probably. Will model dragon aerodynamics later."[/bg]
-
Time to play the "I'm faster, but you're stronger" game. Whee! Standard Action: Ranged Attack Roll vs. Dragon (blast; Power Attack -2/+2) (1d20 + 10 - 2=12) ....okay now I'm rerolling. That's ridiculous. Ranged Attack REROLL vs. Dragon (blast; Power Attack -2/+2) (1d20 + 10 - 2=12) Plus ten makes it 22, which ought to hit. DC27 Toughness for the dragon. Move Action: Put as much distance between herself and the dragon as is possible, preferably away from the village.

Dragonfly just stood there looking up into the sky for a moment, incredulous, as the chaos milled around her. a dragon - really? - real enough - focus - aerial combat - stay off the ground - don't get cornered - probably faster than it is - more maneuverable? - don't rely on that - distract - harry - stay away from jaws Four small nodes pushed out of the back of her suit, adjusting position as each projected a long, blade-like wing of neon blue energy. With a final check to make sure her defenses were well and truly online Dragonfly took off into the air, wings trailing a thin streak behind themselves as she maneuvered herself closer to the dragon (but not too close); the distortion she sent its way went wide, but at this range she hadn't been hoping for much besides distracting it from its peasant-eating. really hope Ironclad is having more luck than I am
-
Dragonfly maintains a distance of about 200 feet; until she knows how fast that thing can move, she's more than happy to be a little inaccurate. Ranged Attack Roll vs. Dragon (blast; range penalty) (1d20 + 10 - 2=9) ...why, IC. Why. Bleh. I'll keep it; it's early in the fight, not worth spending hero points yet. Hitting it would have been nice, but mostly she just wanted to get the thing's attention.
-
Initiative Roll (1d20 + 7=24) Whee! Any other setup needed, or is Dragonfly up?
-
Mara frowned as Jessica - Ironclad, now - disappeared into the arch she probably would have taken herself - not that that was too surprising, given their shared engineering habits. Still, she'd agreed to the toss and lost, and sitting around out here wasn't going to accomplish anything. Lights danced behind her eyes and the choker at the base of her neck flared at the glass and seams; a ripple in space itself flowed outward across her body, leaving her battlesuit in its wake. Dragonfly spared no time in getting her defenses online, either, a twisted outline appearing a couple inches from her profile as she scowled and made her way through the sandstone arch.

"Huh." Gaian Knight rubbed his chin through the cloth over his face, pondering that revalation. It would have to be a huge, active company that probably goes through syringes like popcorn. Still.... "I always thought ArcheTech was an America-based company. Well, it's somewhere to start, at least - any good lead's better than no lead at all, after all." If, he privately admitted, not necessarily much better. I really hope ArcheTech doesn't actually supply the prison with its medical equipment. That'd be really unhelpful.
