1. The blob had barely hit the ground before Supercape landed a harsh blow - enough to make it reel backward a bit, shuffling uncertainly with a curious crooning noise. Its nearby companions, blind as they might have been, immediately shifted in that direction: the two worst-hurt lunged forward in what was, even for shapeless amorphous masses, clearly predatory and instinct-driven hunger. The one who got their first pounced, tearing into an ally to stunned and hurt to defend itself; the loser of that race, driven by some unknown frenzy, opted to instead pounce the closest fellow nearby who it had bumped into during the mad dash to feed on the wounded. When the dust settled there were three small blobs, not five, and two green stains in the dirt surrounding a pair of large, porous rocks. Those that feasted looked, at least in small part, rejuvenated by their cannibalism. The big (and original) creature seemed to finally get its bearings back - as Supercape swooped in to take the fight to his enemies it tracked his progress and lashed out with a tentacle...missing by a mile.
2. Fortitude Save vs. Blindness, DC20 (second save attempt) (1d20 + 8 + 1=11, 1d20 + 8 + 1=19, 1d20 + 8 + 1=12, 1d20 + 8 + 1=18) They're still blind! Fortitude Save vs. Blindness, DC20 (second save attempt) (1d20 + 10 + 1=20) He can see again! Oh dear. Blobette 5 eats Blobette 2 (om nom nom), and heals a bruise. Blobette 4 eats Blobette 1 (om nom nom), and heals a bruise. Blobette 3 can't locate a target (GK pulled up when Supercape nuked, Supercape isn't within range of tactile senses). The Blob attacks Supercape, as a nearby target. Melee Attack Roll vs. Supercape (target in melee) (1d20 + 6 - 4=4) And a miss! Still recovering from being blind, it seems. ROUND EIGHT: 9: Gaian Knight - 1HP - bruise x3 6: Supercape - 3HP - bruise x1 2: Blobettes 3-5 - bruise, blind; bruise, blind; bruise x2, blind -2: The Blob - unharmed
3. Dragonfly flicked her multi-tool closed, putting it back in its pouch as she straightened up from the workbench, stretching a bit. "Surprised nobody noticed radiation leaks earlier," she noted, holding two heavy steel-and-brass armbands up to inspect them. "Seems like something safeties should catch...mmh. Will have to see. Protection...." She pulled her sleeves up a little and clasped a band on each upper arm; as soon as the second one latched shut the glass and seams of both lit up with a soft red glow, and a quick check with her datalink made sure that they were indeed working as intended. didn't blow up - good - Ellie would be upset "Should be fine. Not a perfect radiation shield, but should stop, shunt, or absorb anything but a directed assaults. Not expecting those...still. Never know."
4. Blobs have truly awful defense. 11 hits. Per chat discussion, the two attacks (+0 unarmed, +10 strike aura) roll into a single DC25 save, apparently. Kenson! Toughness Save vs. Supercape's Damage Aura, DC25 (Bruised x2) (1d20 + 15 - 2=24) Blobette 2 picks up a third bruise. Sizzle sizzle! And, of course, hitting one of the little blobs inflicts their DC20 acid aura on you.
5. The hero of Freedom, the man they call Sneerg Gaian Knight 2pp to spend, and I'm cashing in a little of my bronze reward. First: +1 to his will save. (1pp) Second: A new AP on his big ol' earth magic array. Gaian Knight picks up a portal ability, allowing him to create portals to anywhere he's previously set up an anchor, even across dimensions. The only dimension so far is Fleur's sanctuary planet, however; he'll do more as he visits more places! Basically Teleport (+Accurate, +Portal, -Long-Range) linked to Dimensional Movement (one dimension, +portal). "Anywhere he's previously set up an anchor" is represented with a complication, as is the fact that his anchors are (special) rocks and some jerk could just show up and smash them. Third: GK picks up an HQ - some floating rocks over Fleur's sanctuary planet. I'm funding this with part of my Bronze Reward - 3pp of equipment, as noted on the sheet. I'll buy it back soon enough so I can use my bronze reward for other, more nefarious purposes. Alternate Identity: Tarrant David McLeod Identity: Secret Birthplace: United States, west coast Occupation: Professor of Earth Sciences, Freedom City University Affiliations: none Family: Parents (still on the west coast), Brother (location unknown; little contact) Age: 26 (DoB: October 1984) Gender: male Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 6' Weight: ~160lbs Eyes: green (now flecked with gold) Hair: brown Description: A tall man seeming to be in his early to mid twenties, Tarrant’s fit but not overly muscular: he looks more like someone who spends a lot of time outdoors than someone who hits the gym five days a week. Short brown hair tops a charming face with amused green, gold-flecked eyes. Left to his own devices he trends towards simple, durable clothing (jeans, t-shirt, unadorned jacket), but dresses up a bit more for teaching (button-up shirt, vest, tie, and slacks). No matter what he’s wearing, his footwear is practical – “death before dress shoesâ€. His heroing gear seems serviceable but a little slapdash: black fingerless gloves, heavy brown boots, dark jeans, dark red cloth over his mouth and nose, and a long brown hooded coat. Only three items are truly notable: first, a dull metal platemail chestpiece under the coat keeping the torso well-protected, apparently designed with an eye towards flexibility; second, a pair of round goggles completely obscuring his eyes; and third, an antique-looking but well-cared-for sword which never leaves his side. Power Descriptions: Gaian Knight leverages the abundant nearby earth for his effects, moving or reshaping it to his own ends, attacking from various angles to surprise his enemies or attack around cover. As a hobbyist sculptor he takes a bit of pride in the appearance of the things he makes, and if he's able he likes to add his own little artistic touches. His magic often causes a noticable earthy-gold glow that becomes more and more apparent as he does bigger and bigger things, starting around his hands, then his eyes, and finally his whole body (and any rock nearby). Though he rarely notices, long-term use of his power leads to little rocks following him around in the air. History: Young grad student Tarrant McLeod lived a pretty ordinary life up until a friend of his – an archeology student – called him up to help with a gigantic, mysterious cave they’d unearthed near an old ruined city. Upon entering and touching a distinctly out-of-place pedestal of polished stone he was transported to an unknown, seemingly endless plane of earth where a floating vision of a woman in flowing robes spoke to him in broken sentences and half-formed images, part of some ancient recording or ceremony; she called him the Gaian Knight, charged him with protecting “the swordâ€, and implied the purpose of this place was to empower a defender for the surrounding city when it was at the height of its grandeur. When returned to the cavern he found he’d been linked into the earth: he could feel the stone around him, shape it, move it. He also found a sword and scabbard on the altar where there had been none, and (unconsciously compelled to take it with him) made his way back outside more confused than enlightened. Since then he’s spent quite a bit of time learning to control his power, and taking advantage of his new abilities to complete his schooling in record time. Offered a teaching job at FCU, he finally feels like he’s in a place in life where he can apply what he’s learned...in more ways than one. Personality & Motivation: Strange sense of humor and (sometimes forced) cheer; Tarrant’s a decent guy at heart, level-headed, stubborn, and somewhat 'salt of the earth' – he feels bad when he sees bad things happen, he wants to help when someone’s in need of help. He never paid much attention to superheroes growing up (something he regrets, now), but he has a new start and just wants to help people, even if he’s aware that may be naïve. Enjoys cheap magic tricks and carving/sculpting small art pieces in his spare time. Powers & Tactics: Tarrant is not a practiced fighter (he's pretty awful with that sword, too), and typically subsumes his combat nerves into wry comments and self-depreciating humor. That aside, his ‘fighting style’ is more or less as follows: Priority one: protect people who need protecting. Priority two: stay well away from anyone who looks like they can throw a punch. Priority three: protect yourself from anyone who looks like they can throw anything else...like a bus. Priority four: find a way to take down the enemy with as little possible trouble – trap them, bind them, hit them with a rock. Ambushes are good, and underground is better, where the rock is plentiful and tremorsense/nightvision give him an edge. Complications: Honor: Chivalry. Respect and honor; he’s not an old-school knight, but even before the magic answering machine he was of the “won’t hurt a lady†sort, and though he’s not usually compelled to fight fair (since your average mook isn’t going to extend him the same courtesy) he can be easily convinced to listen to his opponent’s side of things...and to fight a fair battle against an enemy he knows (or thinks) is honorable. Responsibility: Professor. He tries to arrange his schedule (and the assigned homework!) as best he can, but he does have students to help and classes to teach. Secret: Identity. Teleportal: Gaian Knight's portals require an anchor - he can only create a portal to somewhere he's already set up a special anchor stone, usually in the form of an archway. No anchor, no portal - and destruction of any anchor prevents him from opening a portal to that location until he can get there some other way to fix it. 6. Four hours build time, no? Unless he has indeed just shown up early.
7. Aha, sorry. I phrased that badly. From way back up in the OOC thread somewhere: Mechanically he wouldn't be able to fly, after all, but with his flight still active I was perfectly willing to give him the benefit of a doubt that he could slow their decent enough to not injure himself (or, by unfortunate extension) the blobette. Plus, like you said, he's being grappled by perhaps the world's best cushion (and one really not smart enough to make Supercape take the brunt of the impact). A bit moot, however, and why I really should have provided context: if Supercape was trying to slow their fall, the blob might have still been up in the air when GK got a good roll and managed to smack it off. With handwavium...ehh. I'll judge that the blobette wasn't high enough to take damage (at least, not with its high toughness save!), but Supercape didn't quite hit the ground himself - given their size they're pretty close if you wanted to do something close-range, or (as it's now your turn!) you have plenty of time to get the hell away from them again. ROUND SEVEN: 9: Gaian Knight - 1HP - bruise x3 6: Supercape - 3HP - bruise x1 2: The Blobettes 1, 3-5 - bruise, blind; bruise, blind; bruise x2, blind; bruise x3, blind -2: Blobette 2 - bruise x2, stunned -2: The Blob - blind Due to readied action mechanics, Blobette 2's init has changed, though for the purposes of actions it won't make any difference. I'm insane for not having made these things a large pack of minions, instead of a small pack of non-minions. Supercape's up.
8. She bit her lip, looking around the workshop and at the parts she'd brought. "....three hours? No, circuitry. Mmh. Four hours. Roughly," she replied, frowning. "Provided Ivan isn't watching over my shoulder. Work best unobserved. Too much brainpower lost to being self-conscious. Interested to hear results from your....'noddle', however. Will catch up if I finish before you return. Otherwise, please, come back with anything you find out."
9. Gaian Knight pulled his rock up a bit in reflex as the explosion rocked through the slimy quintet, apparently doing a fair bit of damage. "Jeeze!" He blinked behind his goggles, glancing between his fellow hero and the recovering monsters, adding, "Remind me to never make you angry. Still, as long as you can do that and we're safely up here--" He should have known better. This time he did pull his rock up, backing away when one of the blobettes streaked through the sky. "That's...kinda gross. Ah - hold still." Shards and chunks of earth broke off from his platform, arranging themselves in the air around the earthmover before hurling in a stream of jagged stone toward Supercape and - more importantly - the green thing trying to weigh him down. A rock or two may not have done much, but a constant barrage eventually wore the thing's defenses away, cutting it from the tendrils and bits of body that had grabbed hold and sending it plummeting to the ground. "Y'okay? Told you the things stinged like nothing else."
10. GK, as mentioned, aims to help. Pun intended. Ranged Attack Roll vs. Grappling Blobette (autofire blast, Power Attack -2/+2) (1d20 + 11 - 2=20) Man it's been ages since I hit something with this. The blobette has a defense of -4. That's a difference of 24, or a bonus of +12...sadly limited to +5 due to Autofire's restrictions. Alas. DC26 (base) + 2 (power attack) + 5 (autofire) = DC33. Toughness Save vs. GK's Autofire Blast (bruise x1) (1d20 + 15 - 1=24) So close to staggered. Ah well. Fail by 9 is stun+bruise. ---------------- On a related note, how high was Supercape in the air when he got grappled?
11. Per the house rules on grappling, failure by that margin means you'd technically be pinned and helpless. That said, seeing as it's basically grappling you by trying to engulf you, I'll happily rule that it cannot actually make a living, non-minion target helpless due to their nature making it hard to get AWAY, but relatively easy to MOVE. Call it a drawback. My interpretation is a little hand-wavey, but it's worth noting that the blobettes have Improved Grab and no defined anatomy - they grapple by blobbing onto people, so as long as they hit something, they can try to hold on. That said, it is hand-wavey, and inconveniences Supercape. Have a hero point! It doesn't, of course, actually nullify your flight. But you can only fly carrying a heavy load or less - the blobette aims to drag Supercape down by exceeding his carry limit by quite a lot. Technically his flight's still active, it (and he) simply doesn't have the power to keep the combined weight aloft. Even stunting flight leverage would get him an effective STR 18, which is well under the weight of one of these things. It'd be a bit of a trip, but in theory Supercape could just teleport out of the thing's grip. Long-Range means he'd also have to teleport BACK, but it's instant freedom. Or just stunt short-range teleportation...or fry the thing to make it get off you, if Supercape's capable of hitting it while pinned. And GK will at least try to help him out there.
12. "Mmh. Eyes," Dragonfly warned as she pulled down a welding mask over her visor and about two seconds before she unceremoniously fired up a welding torch. "Protection. Not very durable, do badly in hostile environmental conditions. Attempting to mitigate that. Extreme temperatures, radiation." She paused for a moment, turning her blank mask to give Supercape a slow glance. "....suffocation." She turned back to her work - which, disturbingly, she hadn't stopped while turned away. "Seemed wise. Based on North Pole candy technology. Improvising. Original was better protection against low temperatures; new version is less powerful but more varied. Had to adjust it anyway. No peppermint sheets available."
13. Yes, that was my mistake. I was juggling too many rolls and DCs for my own sleep-starved brain - it should indeed have been DC30, which you nicely saved against regardless. The blobette should have to hit you, yes. But seeing as it was just thrown bodily into you, that's already been taken care of - all it has to do now is grab on before falling off. If the big blob had missed its throw, the grapple would have automatically failed and the blobette probably would have taken a bit of falling damage as it flew past and came back down.
14. Tarrant certainly lent his hands to the applause, his smile upgraded to a full-blown grin now as the happy couple were officially, finally married. Hands in his pockets he took his time getting out to the reception; the earthmover was still enjoying his rapport with such an old building. Even if it could have talked he wouldn't have understood it, of course, but oh, if it could, the things the walls had probably seen.... Though never a wedding quite as nice as this one, he corrected, still grinning. Certainly not a wedding as nice as this one. I'm pretty sure that's not possible.
15. Dragonfly had turned a little red when caught; other than exchanging a glance with Jill she'd gone quiet and was apparently more than glad to let her girlfriend do the talking. didn't take long - at least nobody seems to care - better than expected? She was, at least, pretty glad for a chance to change the subject. "Have met Sage," she noted, making a conscious effort to get her head back up in the air so she'd look less like a turtle. "Likely to be trustworthy. And telepathic cheating is likely to be catchable, anyway. Probabilities...mmh." She shook her head before she wandered off onto a tangled math tangent. "Unlikely to be a problem."
16. Dragonfly nodded, shaking the offered hand. so much hand-shaking - why "Silhouette. Mask still working? Comfortable? Was an interesting challenge. Interested to see how it worked out in the field." She turned as if to reply to Fusion, trying to keep up with assorted conversations and developments, but: The voice had Dragonfly's clear and immediate attention, head turning to look at where it had filtered down into the game room. As soon as or sooner than Grim could be heard 'subtly' calling the young woman's name down from atop the stairs, the engineer looked...happy. Happier, at least - a little less tense, an inch more relaxed. The finger she hadn't even realized was tapping against her leg stopped, for now at least, as she pulled her attention back to the rest of the room. follow her lead? - try not to make people uncomfortable - social things are complicated
17. Dragonfly kicked some snow off her boots before stepping inside - force of habit, since puddles stay on indoor cement floors forever - and taking a look around, following Grimalkin into the game room and ducking her head down a little at the whispered comments. at least she keeps it quiet - awkward - mmh "All houses need science," she noted, trying to keep her nerves out of her voice. "The more the better. Mmh - almost forgot." She held out a hand, a quite nice bottle of kosher wine unfolding into normal space. "Seemed...polite to bring something. Probably not for poker, but...gift for the host?" She blinked, retreating backward for half a second before catching herself and shaking the offered hand. "T...thank you." reputation? "Interesting to be heard of. Didn't know I'd made that large an impression."
18. Dragonfly took a deep breath and knocked lightly on the Brownstone's back door, hoping she'd gotten the address right - a young woman in full costume knocking on a stranger's door would be awfully awkward. She still wasn't entirely sure about spending the night being social with strangers...but meeting Jill's friends was important to her, and if nothing else she could certainly use the practice reading people. Catching herself rocking back and forth a bit, she told her legs to stay still. try not to look too nervous - first impressions - mmh - plenty of time to look strange and unsocialized later
19. Dragonfly worked her jaw for a moment, but lowered her gauntlet and let it harmlessly release its charge. "Fine," she noted, giving Ivan one last look before turning back to the workbench. "Unsettling problem, for a reactor. Should be done here soon enough. Assume that if it was in danger of immediately meltdown you'd be less cheerful."
20. Aha, right you are. I'd forgotten how perception range interferes with how General and Targeted normally work. Perception-Range Targeted Burst is indeed the best way to model what you have. Interesting! Saves! More saves. All the saves. Incidentally, Supercape's DC block might need touching up - A dazzle 10 inflicts a DC20 Reflex save, and then DC20 Fortitude saves. It's currently listed as 25! The toughness/exotic 5-DC difference always trips me up, too.... Fortitude Saves vs. Blindness, DC20 (1d20 + 8=13, 1d20 + 8=25, 1d20 + 8=19, 1d20 + 8=17, 1d20 + 8=18) Blobette 2 shakes it off; the rest are still blind. Fortitude Save vs. Blindness, DC20 (1d20 + 10=19) And the Blob is still blind. The three blobettes that aren't stunned are now fairly unhappy with Supercape. The two blind ones (#4 and #5) throw things. Ranged Attack Rolls vs. Supercape (thrown improvised objects) (1d20 + 6=23, 1d20 + 6=26) Blind Check (1d2=1, 1d2=2) Ouch. Supercape's saved from that first one but the second - the crit! - hits. DC25 Toughness save for Supercape. The third blobette (#2) holds its action...because the Blob hurls it at the caped hero! Ranged Attack Roll vs. Supercape (thrown blobette, Accurate Attack +2/-2); Blind Check (1d20 + 6 + 2=23, 1d2=2) That's a hit! DC25 Toughness save for Supercape from the impact, DC20 Toughness save from the blobette's acid aura. [EDIT]Toughness Save vs. Being Thrown Really Really Hard at a Superhero, DC25 (1d20 + 15=23) It picks up a bruise from smacking into Supercape.] Also, the blobette's gonna grapple you. It has a grapple bonus of 6 (attack bonus) + 10 (STR bonus) + 1 (size modifier) = +17. Grapple Check vs. Supercape (1d20 + 18=20) I fail at addition in the morning. That should be +17, not +18; final roll of 19. DC19 Grapple check for Supercape, then. Success means he shakes the blobette off. Failure means it grabs hold and, pin or not, Supercape starts to sink (harmlessly) to the ground due to the weight.
21. Perception range lets you center the AoE anywhere you can accurately perceive. 'Nuclear bomb anywhere'-style attacks can be, for instance, Perception range but Burst area - the explosion happens anywhere within your line of sight, and covers a large, spherical area. Perception area will hit anything that can perceive the center point of the attack. A hypnotic lightshow, say - you may only be able to create it out to a certain distance from yourself, but anyone who sees it would be hypnotized. Also, perception area attacks must be general area attacks, and cannot be targeted area attacks. A perception range, perception area attack can be placed at any point you can accurately perceive, and hits anyone who can perceive that point. I admit I'm kind of curious as to why you picked Targeted - things like explosions are generally General. Targeted Area attacks are typically things like a flurry of individually-aimed strikes (a speedster punching everyone in the area, beamspam, a missile barrage, that sort of thing). A small nuclear blast doesn't seem like the sort of thing you really....aim at specific targets. Did you just not want enemies to be able to make a reflex save for half? It seems weird to me that an enemy who was invisible, or behind cover, or stealthy would get a chance to not be hit by your....mushroom cloud. ----------- Toughness Saves vs. Supercape's Area Attack (unharmed, unharmed, unharmed, 2xbruise, 2xbruise) (1d20+15=19, 1d20+15=26, 1d20+15=19, 1d20+13=33, 1d20+13=24) Better luck than GK's had! Stun+Bruise, save, stun+bruise, save, bruise.

Mara had paused, food halfway to her mouth, at the vacation offer; by the time she exchanged the glance with Jill the food was back on her plate and she was rather pensively giving the idea some consideration. "....could," she said, tilting her head. "Been a...very long time. Haven't thought about visiting again...too busy. Very generous, but...very tempting. Some travel concerns, but...." false ID? - passports difficult to fake - best to take advantage of citizenship - wouldn't expect me to leave the country anyway - make a distraction just in case.... "Could deal with that myself. It's...yes. Especially if Jill goes. Might be.....nice."
23. Dragonfly made a choked sound, though even she couldn't tell if it was from anger or the fumes, and Ivan immediately had a gauntlet pointed toward his face, palm out as the engineer's head snapped up and around to face him, force field bending into view around her profile. Even the gauntlet itself seemed angry, humming as it charged, little lines and arcs of twisted space pulling together and folding apart around it and refracting the soft blue glow from the glasswork; it didn't hold a candle to the pure, cold unamusement of their bearer, though, or the barely-contained anger and revulsion in her voice. "
24. Burst 10 (out of curiosity, why targeted? An odd choice for what looks, at first glance, like an explosion; it might be fun to see in context, with fluff) has a radius of 50'. Assuming the center of the effect is at ground-level (basically hitting anything standing in a 7853 ft2 circle) , GK and Supercape should both be out of range. However, these things have a decent chunk of Growth, and are reasonably large, giving you the same problem GK has with his smaller but shapeable area attack: I'd say that with Burst 10 you could hit the quintet, or the big guy, and in either case the heroes are safe from your attack (as are civvies). But you can't hit both the quintet and the big guy at the same time, so you'd have to pick your target.
25. I honestly thought we'd have to have Sil infiltrate and make a run for Creature while alarms went off. Nice.
