Tarrant chuckled, returning the rock to his case and standing up. "Sounds like an excellent plan to me - you guys should have tools we just don't. I hope you don't mind if I insist you lead - I haven't been around to this building much and I'm likely to get us both completely and utterly lost." He swept out a hand, feigning a bow. "After you, professor."
-
The radiation it's putting out isn't constant - it shifts, just barely, waxing and waning on a very slow but fairly regular rhythm.
-
Too massive for your average rock, especially a porous one; no electricity or radio to speak of, and the ore composition foils radar (as many ores do). EM says it's putting out some low-level radiation that's harmless, but not in the range one usually detects from raw samples. Gimme a notice check, though, on that EM. DC...oh, 20.
-
Tarrant glanced at Quentin, and then at the large sample case, and then back up. Pocket...? "Ah - no. It's a little large for my pockets, so I grabbed a spare case out of my office. Here..." Setting the case down in his lap the professor opened up the top, pulling out a rounded, misshapen lump of reddish-brown porous rock and holding it up for inspection - and giving it a critical eye, himself. "Most of it's just generic meteorite, but that really wouldn't explain the oddity."
-
Tarrant grinned, picking the case up off the floor. "I can do you one better, sir - I have some of it right here. And in, turn, ah..." He looked up and to the side, ticking the questions off on one hand. "I didn't find them, a friend of mine did - he's off somewhere doing archaeology, and sends me rocks he needs dated or can't figure out. His sample was...generous, but I have some of it here and the rest back in our department's sample room. I did a variety of standard tests - ones I could do without harming a sample, anyway, because I prefer to save those for last; mass, size, observable properties, and so on. And a radioactivity test, obviously. There's quite a bit - maybe ten, twelve cubic feet, though it's not one big solid chunk."
-
Tarrant nodded, shrugging helplessly. "If it was just laced with radioactive metal or something I wouldn't need to bother you - but as near as I can tell it isn't, and while I'm pretty good in my area...well, 'radiation that doesn't match up with normal materials' isn't quite up my alley. I figured, between the two of us, we could at least learn something. Besides, if anything cures the Monday blues, it's a good anomaly, right?"
-
Taking a seat and carefully placing a heavy sample case on the floor next to him, Tarrant nodded and tried very, very hard to keep a straight face at Quentin's mishap. "Don't mind if I do, since you seem to have the tea on hand - a cup sounds pretty nice. Monday for me is mostly teaching freshman classes...half of them are asleep, and the other half just wanted some easy science credits. I'm up for any excuse to get my brain going again, heh." He shook his head, but grinned. "Actually, that's what brings me here. A friend of mine sent me some rock samples to poke at, but they're a little...odd. Odd being the highly scientific term," he added, chuckling. "Too heavy for what they're made of. Normally I'd just crack them open, but they're a little radioactive, and that's not really my area - they aren't dangerous as near as I can tell, but I figured I might as well learn what I can before breaking out a hammer."
-
Tarrant grinned, making his way into the office and looking around. Nice plant. I really should think about getting one - put some color in my office. Well. Color that isn't a fancy rock, anyway. "Sorry to - ah, barge in on you," he apologized. "I'm Tarrant McLeod - a professor over in the earth science department, and I was wondering if you could help me out."
-
OOC thread for...that thread title up there that I'm too lazy to type out a third time. Yes, that one. That one right there. Thread time and date can of course be changed if it causes conflicts with anyone's timeline.

January 22nd, 2011; 3:48pm Tarrant McLeod picked his way through the unfamiliar campus building, stopping repeatedly to check directories or wall-mounted signs that supposedly pointed the way to the offices, but honestly he was getting highly suspicious that someone was messing with him. Or, at least, he was...until a helpful grad student pointed out that he was four feet from his destination. Coughing and thanking the bemused woman, he double-checked the name plate just to be sure before knocking and sticking his head in the room. "Ehm. Professor Quill, I hope, or I'm a lot more lost than I thought."

Forgot to note - edited the IC post a touch to reflect Carces information and correct my misunderstanding.

Dragonfly frowned, but nodded, picking up the bag and putting it on a clear table before she turned to address the crowd in as no-nonsense a tone as she could manage. "Form a line. Please. Describe your items and I will find them and give them to you. If you lie, I will know -" perfect memory - watched you all fill the bag "- and things belonging to you will get donated to charity. So don't. One at a time, please, can get this done as quickly as possible...."
-
The engineer just frowned, looking down at the bottles with a shrug. "Barely use them. Once every few weeks, maybe. Like to have a variety on hand so I can use the minimum strength required. Refuse to-" She blinked, realizing she'd provided absolutely no context whatsoever. "Mmh. Chronic migraines," she noted in a matter-of-fact tone, pointing at her head. "Not so bad unless they keep me from sleeping."

Tarrant chuckled, having an awful hard time keeping a grin off his face as he heard the girl's question after the young pair had made their way down the aisle - or, at least, after the young girl had dragged the poor boy down the aisle. There's an amusing and probably inappropriate metaphor somewhere in there, he thought to himself, but I'm certainly not going to be the one who makes it.

Dragonfly had long since filled her belly with delicious meats and cheeses, and while she'd been able to manage her (small) share of questions and complements over by the food table she was more than glad when the food ran low, the crowds thinned out, and she could excuse herself to a floor above the main gathering where she could watch without getting in the way or feeling like she was shirking duties. When even Miss Americana had left the crowds she abandoned her post at the window, stretching a little as she made her way to the nearest elevator. not so bad - wouldn't want to do it again but not so bad - food was excellent
-
"Mmh." Dragonfly tapped a finger on the floor, carefully rolling off the healer and making her way around to the other side of her desk, pulling open a drawer and rummaging for a moment. She eventually found and pulled out three little pill bottles that, from the look of them, were either new or unopened; these got lined up on the front of the desk. "General head pain, headache, migraine," she noted in turn, shrugging. "Effective - migraine one is very strong. Over-the-counter though. Barely use them, but like to have them on hand."

Dragonfly let out a startled noise as the chair tipped past the point of no return, just in time to see the floor start rushing up at them. Fortunately - or unfortunately, depending on who you were - Jill was there to break her fall and the engineer landed flat on top of her, pulling her head back barely in time to keep her skull from whipping forward and either hitting the floor over Jill's shoulder, or Jill's own head. It took her a moment to collect her wits, but she shook her head. "Am alright. You? Sort of...broke my fall. .....sorry. Floor isn't very forgiving. Chair imps...have awful timing."

Crunch! Ability Scores STR 12 + Enhanced STR 14 = net STR 26 (+8), not net STR 28 (which, of course, would be +9 and not +7). I assume that's just a notation problem, since it does put him at caps. DEX 12 + Enhanced DEX 4 = net DEX 16 (+3), not net DEX 14 (+2). Combat With DEX 12/16, he should have Init +1/+3. Grapple is [Melee Attack Bonus + STR modifier + Super-Strength + size modifier + Elongation + applicable Additional Limbs]. This should be 8+(1 or 8)= +9/+16. Knockback is [impervious Toughness + half non-Impervious Toughness + misc. modifiers (Immovable, etc)]. This should be -0/-5, I believe. Skills Each rank in Wealth gives you a +2 bonus to Diplomacy and Gather Info checks that involve bribery; two ranks in Wealth would bump his Diplomacy (when bribing) up to +11, not +9. Powers A 65dp device is rank (65/5=)13, and if it's hard to lose that'd cost you 52pp. So you either have 4pp to spend elsewhere, or 5pp yet to be spent inside the device (and a device description to change, if it really is supposed to be a 70pp device). DC Block Missing the blast (DC23 Toughness), and neither of his possible unarmed attacks (DC16 Toughness standard, DC23 Toughness enhanced) are DC15. Otherwise, though, it looks good, crunch-wise, as near as I can figure. Most of that's just making sure the things you bought are reflected correctly elsewhere; the actual sheet, aside from the Powers note, adds up.

Dragonfly made a happy murmur, wrapping her arms around Jill's shoulders and settling into the kiss - she may not have had much experience, but she learned awfully fast with sufficient motivation. A short while later she pulled back - less than an inch - to bite her lip, run a hand through Jill's hair, and rather breathlessly complement her on her healing abilities before closing the distance again.

Dragonfly snorted a bit, shaking her head. "Mmh. You're very capable - have faith that you don't need help. Have it anyway. And gutters - not usually," added noted, shifting a little closer on Jill's lap and looking a little impish. "Must have run into a bad influence somewhere. Have to be careful meeting new people - never know what will happen. Might end up in the lap of a very nice heroine with a head full of thoughts and impulses."

"Delicious?" Dragonfly raised an eyebrow at that, tilting her head. "Should probably be afraid. Mostly sounds fun." She leaned down, gently tilting Jill's head back to give her a short kiss - lingering a little partly for the intimacy, and partly just to enjoy being tall. "Don't thank me yet, though," she admonished. "Thank me when robot drones crush anyone who causes trouble when you explain things. With lasers. And science."

Dragonfly sniffed, pushing herself upright again with her sense of humor under better control - though she still found it awfully hard to keep a straight face. "S...sorry," she replied, wiping away the humor-fueled tears at the corners of her eyes. "Needed that. Mmh. Just...got into my head and wouldn't leave. Does make sense, yes...should have taken it more seriously. Really will support you however you need it," she added, quite sincerely. "Promise."

Dragonfly paused, tired eyes blinking as something caught in her brain and stuck there. The corner of her mouth twitched a little and some perfect combination of nerves, hormones, and the night's excitement aligned; the young woman started laughing. The sort of laugh you hear from someone who doesn't laugh much, or who has way too much pent up under the surface, or both - she practically collapsed against Jill, laughing and snickering so hard she had tears in her eyes and trying to get herself back under control. "Glad--" she started, when she could manage it, "-- glad I could help you...you figure out your box." That got her laughing again, though not quite as hard as before.

The corner of Dragonfly's mouth twitched. "Lap full of cute blonde?" she echoed, rewarding that one by leaning down for a quick kiss. "Wasn't sure how you wanted to do things if only I know that you...mmh. Have better taste than most attractive female athletes. And have no experience with relationships at all...." She shook her head, relaxing again - or giving it a good try, anyway. "Sorry. Shouldn't worry so much. Haven't...dated. Too much I don't know. Will learn by doing like everyone else."

Dragonfly hmmed, going cross-eyed for a moment to watch the nose-kiss, sitting back a little to admire Jill's face with a smile...that faltered just a little. The engineer bit her lip, a finger tapping on the chair back as she tried to get her brain to phrase a concern that had started to nibble at the edge of her thoughts, fought off so far with kisses and wit. "Where- mmh." It wasn't the best start, and she tried again. "....what now? Not now now, I mean - think I know what I'd like for now but probably too early to--" She cut herself off, frowning. no good either - third try? "...sorry. Mean, what now, with us. Assume you want to keep things private? No objections, just...don't...have no experience. Not sure how these things....go."
