Dragonfly turned a little red, losing focus for a moment before coughing lightly. "Ah - mmh. Did mention I didn't always phrase things quite as...yes. Soundproof, I mean. Lab values privacy...window's one-way, as well. Until you run a current through it. Neighboring offices are unoccupied," she added as a rueful afterthought, wincing in the direction of the nearest vacant office. "Think my work has a reputation." For once, the rambling actually seemed to work in Dragonfly's favor - reflecting on peer opinion apparently gave the young woman a chance to compose herself, and she arched an eyebrow, turning back to lean on the chair. "Make it up to you how?"

Dragonfly had been working on her glass as she listened, ruefully shaking her head as she put the mostly-empty glass down. "Wouldn't help. Known cause, not food-related. Should probably be better about food and sleep, of course. But head would hurt regardless." She raised an eyebrow, adjusting one of her gauntlets and looking back at the door. "Agree about the catering, though. Shame to not at least try it. What's the phrase...'once more into the breach'?"
-
She just shook her head. "No. Wing it. How time gets divided depends on what I have to do that day - unfinished projects, deadlines, things I want to track down, crime-fighting I've prepared for. Try to split my time between my work, Lab work, hero work. Sometimes more successful at management than others. Meals sometimes get skipped...sleep often gets skipped. Necessity or neglect or headaches." The young woman shrugged, apparently unbothered, and then blinked, realizing that last bit had no context whatsoever. "Mmh - chronic migraines," she added as if that explained everything, pointing at her head with one circling finger and unintentionally making the 'crazy' motion.
-
Dragonfly winced and held up her hands. "Not...what I meant to imply. Don't think that - wouldn't," she defended, shifting back on her seat a little. "Clearly conducted espionage against me because of the soundproof office. Only meant that it will backfire on you. Spies are hired," she noted, gesturing and sounding a bit like a professor explaining a theory. "Will have to interrogate you to learn your patron."

Dragonfly hmmed, raising an eyebrow. "Machiavellian plot...should have guessed. Sneak into a high-security building, get free dinner, steal secrets on your way out?" she wryly accused, pointing an accusatory finger. "Am onto you. Attractive and intelligent or not, won't get away with it. Can't be seduced into betraying the Lab so quickly and easily."

Dragonfly sighed, and shook her head. "Bubble? Going to assume you meant me...better to leave them," she replied, sorely tempted to give the one she'd just finished binding a kick. "Easier to monitor. Living things can get free from...storage. Don't receive much warning, either. Prefer to not get ambushed by them when they wake up."
-
Dragonfly sipped from her glass and snorted, shaking her head. "Am a lightweight. But smart enough to not drink enough to get drunk, anyway. Probably a very bad idea to get drunk, regardless. Would wake up in a lab I don't remember owning. Desk full of unknown gadgets or something." She gestured helplessly, raising an eyebrow. "Engineer toys are more fun when you know what they do."
-
Dragonfly poked her head into the room before entering completely, looking around with muttered appreciation for the style. "Classics. Antique or modern version...mmh. Nice. Most of mine's been taken over by work. Desk's almost a lab bench." She made her way over to the bar, poking through until she found a nice bottle of wine that was good...but not so good one would feel guilty drinking it. Pulling the cork with the sort of ease that only comes from practice, she poured a couple glasses and delivered it to her colleague. "The National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984," she wryly toasted, raising her glass. "Prohibiting purchase, public possession, but not drinking."
-
Lights danced behind her eyes as Dragonfly hijacked the intercom to send a message to one of the few staff she was on reasonably good terms with and who she knew would be in the building still; she never, ever touched the Lab's money but it was easy enough to offer up one of her account numbers. From her posture and expression, though, her attention was clearly almost completely on Jill as she vented. "Good plan," she replied, and she meant it. "Will have to take that advice, myself. Kind of...improvising. No experience with- mmh. Time later to worry myself in circles." She shook her head. "Much better to stick with the attractive, intelligent person in the room. And the awesome."

Dragonfly slumped a little, sighing. "Yes. Glass of wine sounds fantastic." She glanced ruefully at where Ironclad had led her group away, but just shook her head. "Not a complete failure, at least. Should have guessed she'd do well, but keeping them busy if nothing else." She was still a little hunched as they made their polite and sociable retreat, taking pains to not make actual contact with anyone left in the crowd. "Speech...thank you. Was worried about it. Number forty-seven...or so. The speech, I mean. Not as...gifted a speaker as some. Have to overcompensate with planning."
-
Dragonfly pondered for a moment, tapping a finger on her leg. "Haven't done too much programming lately. Mostly been doing engineering...could show him one of my control systems. Mmh! And I brought my pet for some tuning. Have been adding to his 'brain' off and on." She shrugged. "Not exactly a super-computer, but isn't supposed to be. Trying something new with layered systems."
-
Shifting in her seat a bit, and still a little flushed, Dragonfly had one rapidly finger tapping on the chair's wooden back like she was trying to send secret messages on an old morse telegraph. Mostly she was trying to think through the places she usually went to eat - from the hole-in-the-wall gyro shop to the relatively upscale restaurants - and trying to imagine the kind of looks and attention going there in costume or obvious disguises would bring. The mental image - when she could keep her mental images on-subject - weren't promising. "....order in?" she finally suggested. "Limits the food choices a little, but wouldn't want awkwardness of being stared at to...impede enjoyment. Could do worse, if we can get good food delivered. Clear off the desk, enjoy the view. Might have emergency candles around- mmh. Candles are probably too much." She clamped her mouth shut, trying to get it back under control and looking a bit apologetic. "S...sorry. Usually...eat alone. Don't get out much."

Dragonfly gave a half-grin of victory, but whatever victory remark she was about to let loose got choked on when Jill mentioned dinner. It was her turn to go a little red again, and she coughed to clear her throat of forgotten wit and try to get her voice back. "Was that an...actual offer? Dinner, I mean. Hard to tell. Suppose it would be a little odd in-costume...."

Dragonfly frowned, glances at Miss A and Sharl hidden behind her visor. "Have...few reservations for a guided tour. Happens often enough. Just need to have someone along - building has decent security, for good reasons." She tilted her head, sorting through her memory for recent Lab news she'd heard. "....not sure who has interesting projects lately. Usually try to give others space unless they want help. Probably something somewhere, though."
-
She shrugged, and shook her head. "Mostly amused by the idea. Would be an awful teacher in a...formal setting. Not sure I have the patience...very sure I don't have the social skills. Probably younger than anyone I'd teach, anyway. Absurdity of the idea is entertaining." She shifted forward on the chair again, folding her arms over the back as she dryly added, "That said, if you own a short pleated skirt, am sure we could work something out."

Dragonfly was more than happy to take a step back, listening to the conversations and taking copious mental notes. Two artificial lives interacting was just fascinating, and an awfully rare event; just these scant few minutes had already given her an assortment of ideas she wouldn't be able to get to for months. should at least modify my pet - better AI couldn't hurt - tie it into security system? - insights will help - from the internet - mmh - interesting - proximate source only - ultimate source?
-
Dragonfly frowned, tilting her head at the projector and bringing her defenses online...just in case. "Well. Not what I was hoping for. But seems to have done something, anyway; do like the sound of 'prisoner intake suspended', at least." She sighed, glancing at Silhouette. "Ideas? Could try again - convince it we're more important. Didn't give us the level of access I was hoping for. Awfully touchy, for a scanner...."
-
"Mmh," Dragonfly nodded. "Seemed like the...appropriate response. Thought it was worth the risk of being inappropriate." She shrugged, and leaned back on the chair for a moment, stretching. "Of course it's a compelling argument. I'm right. Also: science. Scientists have long traditions of bringing enlightenment to the...heathen masses. Some students are just more stubborn than others."

Dragonfly shrugged, waving a dismissive hand. "Clearly just an excellent teacher. With a mouthy student." She shook her head, doing her best (which wasn't great) to feign regret. "And spoken like someone who relies on magic. Good technology supplements, but does not replace. Mother nature's skill is...impressive. True. Does not mean clever engineering cannot help. Best results are had when the two meet."

"Cute-" Dragonfly coughed a little, just barely tinting red. "Am not bawdy," she defended with mock admonishment. "Am honest. Perfectly reasonable course of action if you need to decide things for yourself." She raised an eyebrow, a ghost of a grin tugging at the corner of her mouth and clearly not willing to be outdone so easily herself. "And you clearly simply need to use better electronics."

Dragonfly sighed, accepting the little gift basket with a minimum of fuss; she'd learned that the robot was awfully stubborn, and frighteningly inventive for something - someone - who wasn't allowed into 80% of the building. "Yes, will be...nice, and keep my hands - and brain - to myself. Sentient AI...very interesting. Have had some ideas there, but not the time to truly experiment." She frowned, but shrugged the idea off for later. "Will get back to it, hopefully...sorry, no, did not write any books. Most interesting of my...developments...shouldn't be made publicly available. Rest I prefer to release to other people for their use...have contributed on some published things. Stayed anonymous. Dislike the attention."
-
Both eyebrows cleared the top of Dragonfly's visor, and she made a little humming sound as she reviewed the last hour-and-a-half-ish in her head. "Makes sense. As big a deal as you feel it is, honestly. Wasn't to me, but my reactions to things are often...atypical. And I lacked good reference when I was realizing. Probably harder for you. Perfectly reasonable to have...things to work through. Difficult subject, I think." She shifted, pointing toward a closed side door with one hand. "Small bedroom with computer access over there," she offered, trying awfully hard to keep a straight face, "if you're still not sure. The Lab is a building of learning. Would be happy to remain here while you perform research."

"Dragonfly," the young woman offered, putting a hand on her chin and folding the other around to her elbow. She wasn't so much looking at Sharl as looking through him, studying what she could with the limited resources her visor offered. "Your work?" she asked Miss A, tilting her head back the other way. "Clever. Can't even begin to...mmh. Suppose I wouldn't be allowed to open it up. Will keep my mind away from it for now. Do have a question, though...Sharl. Are you broadcasting from elsewhere, or are you here and simply creating a form to interact with? Both have merits...hard to tell without studying the device."
-
Dragonfly tilted her head. "Didn't mean to push too hard. Curious, though. Don't get much insight into others' personal lives." She shrugged, settling down on the chair a little. "Bad habit, maybe. Always want to know things. Still, can share - or not share - if you'd like. No monitoring devices in here or the attached rooms that I don't have direct control over. Soundproof walls, even, and empty adjacent rooms...probably to blame, for that last one. Bending space makes some people nervous. Not a very good liar, but good at keeping secrets."

"No, we own them all." Dragonfly stepped out of the elevator, adjusting one of her gauntlets and looking around the library. "The ones that aren't on loan, anyway. More than this in the digital archives, of course, but hard to beat an actual, physical book sometimes. Ease of reading, reference. Local libraries - plural - probably have more books than this, but worse selection of scientific volumes. Something to be said for specialization. Miss Americana," she greeted, nodding in the heroine's direction. "And you're her frien.....mmh." She tilted her head, double-checking to make sure her visor wasn't lying to her. heat pattern looks like - that bit's real in his pocket - the rest is - that's a very good hologram "You're not really here," she noted. "Interesting."
