Grim: Initiative Roll: 1d20+6 8 And a single roll to cover all dogs: Initiative Roll: 1d20+10 20

"On behalf of guys: we approve," Matt said, providing an unabashed - if serious-faced - thumbs-up. He was doing a remarkable job keeping his eyes above-board since Raina left the fitting room, but it was taking some effort. "They're getting more common. I guess they must be pretty comfortable, in addition to just looking good, but they don't really make 'em for guys so I guess I don't know." He shrugged, leaning his shoulder against the nearest sturdy-looking object as he waited for the girls to do their thing. "I mean, they're probably not so great if you don't have the legs or the, uh. Y'know, to pull off the look. Some people out there underestimate how much other people don't want t'see them in tight clothing, but that's not really gonna be a problem for either of you so it's not really worth worrying about if you like 'em."

Alice's mood was downright cheery at 'free and clear', but became more and more dour at an almost cartoonish rate as Ms. Not-a-Lawyer got further and further toward the end of her piece. "But they're dumb," she intoned, one hand at her forehead. "They'd only know a picked lock from a broken one if they stubbed their toe on a fallen bolt. They're never going to find these people, and I'm going to have them breathing down my neck even more than normal. Forever." "Someone's going to have to find the thieves for them," she said, turning a thousand-yard stare toward the others. "Or for us, I guess. Someone like...oh." Her stare gained a bit more distance, hand dragging down her face in despair. "....oh, no."
-
"Yeah, gotta find something you like," Matt agreed, though from his tone he wasn't quite sure whether or not he should be agreeing with Raina just on principle. "Y'don't have to be super-fancy if you decide that's not you, and you don't have to stand out, draw attention or whatever, but maybe don't be a background character in a movie. Personalize, I guess." He shrugged - he'd never really used his uniform. He might have given the pants to the dogs...and he belatedly wondered what they wanted with pants. "Fancy jackets are fine, I guess, but maybe some usefulness there too? Some of 'em look nice but you'll regret it when you get caught in the rain with no hood or no waterproofing. When you don't have much, you've gotta get as much out of it as you can. ...minus the really fancy clothes. The really fancy stuff is never practical, and I think that's part of the point."

Mara caught the look and raised an eyebrow, but was happy to leave the gentle diplomacy to her better half - Ellie had a bedside manner Mara could never, ever hope to replicate. Instead she held out a hand, collar shimmering as she pulled a drone out of thin air to project a small three-dimensional work space - a work space quickly populated with surveillance designs she apparently already had on hand. "Really good security requires coordination," she noted, half thinking aloud and half filling the space between Ellie's question and Willow's answer. "Detecting is the easy part. Understanding's hard, even with things like drone AI. Could build a pretty good filter library and feed information Vince's way, though. Wouldn't have to watch it at all unless he got a primary alert....mmh. Someone mentioned a magic detection thing recently, will track that paper down. Something about magic-sensitive crystals and laser refraction."

Grim didn't reply directly, at first, instead kneeling down to direct one of his own at the footprints. It in turn immediately took command of the two others, the whole lot of them snuffling at the earthen floor before turning their attention, as one, deeper into the maze. "Yeah, they got it," Grim noted - though just about anyone could have guessed that much, the way they were milling about and trying to lead the group onward, featureless, burning eyes turning back to implore the others. "Sic 'em." And they were off, heroes in tow - at least, any who chose to follow. Any plus two, in fact: they'd barely set off when Grim's shadow deepened, a final pair of hounds casually loping out of it to run at his heels as if they'd been there the entire time. "Just keep your guard up. There's a lotta smells in here, and we don't like any of them."

"What, and ruin my whole second-hand chic thing?" Matt held up his hands with all the incredulity he could muster - a marked and artificial difference from his normally laid-back affect. "It takes work to look like a bum, you know. I'm kinda insulted." He shrugged, shoving his hands back into his pockets. "Seriously, I don't think your boyfriend's generosity extends to me, and if you push him too far he might take that fancy card away. I'm just here to carry bags and maybe pick something up for the dogs if we hit that end of the mall. If Winifred's got the blank check, though, maybe get at least one thing that doesn't go in the machines in the first place?" He nodded toward the fancier end of the Juniors, where school fashion started to fade out into formal attire. "Assuming something general-purpose doesn't offend your fanciness, it's always good to have at least one mostly-okay suit or dress or whatever in case you have to hit a funeral...or kinda fancy party or whatever. Ain't cheap, and maybe you'll never have to use it, but I'd grab it while the grabbing's good."

Matt hadn't been lying about his hearing: his shaggy-haired head popped up from behind one of the displays a section or two away, and it only took him a handful of moments to navigate his way over and rejoin the group. "Funny," he grumbled, hands in his pockets as he matched their stride. "Took a while. Guess it probably would, though, if you needed to get a fitting or something." Matt had never had a bra, of course, but he was just going to go ahead and assume it was an annoying process, rather than think too hard about what went into it. It was safer that way. "Find everything you need there?"

The young thief hesitated, as if unsure what the gesture meant, before finally putting her own hand forward to accept the offered shake. Her hands were a bit rough and one got the impression that they were awfully strong for someone her build, but she seemed to handle the handshake with a certain level of delicate control. "Alice," she said, with no smile on an openly curious face. "You aren't a lawyer," she added, finally letting the woman go. It was a statement, not a question. "And you're too huggy with him -" - Xavier, apparently, from her head-bob - "- and too shaky to be really deep in a gang or one of the families, unless you're new or just dragged in. Not that I'm not grateful or nothing, but what's the deal?"

Fluff Just a minor point: at the end of Power Descriptions, the golden threads are said to spin out from Mal's heart, which I'm guessing is a typo. Combat Flat-footed defense is half your defense rounded up (because the standard "round down" rule applies to your dodge bonus, not your flat-footed, which is simply what's left over - annoying, I know). With a 'base' defense bonus of +5/+7, flat-footed defense would be +3/+4. Knockback, on the other hand, is indeed rounded down: with a Toughness save of +1/+7, Knockback would be -0/-3 - but see the note on Toughness below, under Saves. This character is under-capped, though not by much: PL9.5 on offense at best (+10 attack with the bat, +9 damage with the bat). It's close enough that I'm willing to let it slide, myself, but you may want to consider swapping a rank of Knockback for one extra rank on the base Strike on that bat's attack power, as you may find it more useful (or find a way to up the rank of the bat device, to give you the breathing room to add pp to both the Strike and the Stun). Saves This character has +2 Con, not +1 - both Toughness and Fortitude will have to be adjusted. With +5 Wis, not +4, the Will save will have to be updated or adjusted to match. Skills This character has bought 12R of skills, not 8, and is underpaying by 1pp. Powers What is the mental sense being bought under Super Senses? 'Mental' is a sense type, generally speaking, which would make these modifiers far far more expensive. Are they all intended to only apply to the Danger Sense? I would imagine not, since it would make your ESP later on kind of bad, but still.... The base power in your Fate Sorcery array costs 17pp, in an array limited to 16pp. Four ranks of an easy-to-lose device costs 12pp, not 15pp; you're overpaying by 3pp, and can spend those elsewhere (huzzah!). Magic is a Very Common descriptor; Magic Awareness, per our house rules, would be a 3pp power. Fortunately, you're also not spending 1pp out of the Cloak's 15pp limit, so you don't have to pay for this elsewhere.

Gaian Knight / Tiamat (maxed) - Dragonfly (maxed) Interceptors: Echo vs Gecko (2) Wraith Nine+ Ladies Dancing (1) Eclipse - Grim The Dog Park Will Not Harm You (2) Transmutation (2) Gremlin Knock on the Door Job (8) Dragonfly rollover to Eclipse, I guess, so that she gets at least the 1pp. Ref point to Eclipse as well.

Can the dogs track? They can! They have Tracking (Olfactory) and Survival +10; without current pressure or combat, I'll just have them take 10. Two of them aid the third - a check of 20 on the aids means a +3 each to the leader (assuming the GM rules they can apply that bonus!), for a max check of 26 for the lead dog making the actual Survival tracking check. They intend to find the freshest scent for the hunted, and try to follow that. Grim pulls out two more dogs (which brings him up to his max of 5), largely for personal and group protection.

"Yeah, yeah, I said I would, already," Matt deflected, trying to not look too out of place, and failing miserably. "You do your...whatever. I'm gonna go look at jeans I can't afford, or something. Gimme a shout when you're done - my ears're pretty good." He gave them an unnecessary wave as he walked away, muttering something indistinct about parts of the store that had nothing for him. Matt really did look at the store's collection of denim, though he seemed somewhat more distracted by the pair of glowing eyes that had shown up in the darkness beneath one of the circular racks of pants. "Nuh uh," he cautioned, pretending to inspect something transparently out of his price range. "You lot leave them alone. You get us kicked out and they'll never give you treats, ever."
-
"If it even burns," Grim mused, scowling. His dogs were unafraid, but clearly uncomfortable, milling around him as if expecting an attack from any direction. "Plus, we don't know who or what's in there. Fire's hard to control once you've got it going - even if we didn't let it spread to the rest of the park, what if they have hostages or whatever?" He cocked his head, wishing he could glean something - anything - more from the place...and wishing it wasn't so far out of his area of expertise. "I'm with Woodsman, here. We've gotta figure out what's keeping this thing here, if it isn't supposed to be. Stuff from outside our world doesn't always just show up; maybe they've got a gate, or an anchor, or something...we take that out, we at least stop more from coming, or maybe send them all back. Hopefully."

Indira turned to give the newcomers a friendly, shallow bow, which gave her the convenient excuse to politely not notice Kimber's much-needed touch-up. "We found and used both the cookies and the trays," she assured her friend, smiling. "The cookies are, in fact, on the trays, waiting for the hungry. Do not worry - we were careful. It is an important event; we have not had so many together in a very long time." The last bit was said as she scanned over the crowd, still smiling...though when her eyes landed on Klara, she paused. "Ah...hello," she greeted, stepping forward, and sparing a glance back at the owner of the castle. "I don't believe we've met. Are you a friend of Eve's...?"

"I'm nothing like them," Alice defended, with a bit of fire in her eyes - though with the same breath, she'd given Lou an acknowledging nod for his offer of assistance. "They're thugs hiding behind badges; they aren't even fun. When I get revenge, it's....graceful." She didn't seem to be happy with her own word choice, the dead end taking the wind out of her sails a bit. Righteous indignation gone, she opted to gesture at the phone, then Sofía. "She reads faster than I do, I guess. I don't think they've got anything on us, though. Just....Bedlam police justice."

"A good quest," Mara somberly agreed, nodding to herself. She wrapped her hands around her coffee mug, trying to drain the heat out of it in the hopes of - sometime soon - drinking it without burning her mouth. "A noble quest. We will give it everything we have. Maybe we're just doing it wrong?" She looked up thoughtfully, dark blue eyes meeting Ellie's with all the deadpan seriousness she could muster. "Maybe they're all doing it wrong," she suggested, pausing long enough to take a sip of wakefulness from her cup. "We'll have to experiment, with lots of ways, to find the right one. For science, and humanity. Solemn duty."

Matthew Rivera had led an interesting life. He had a pack of death dogs at his beck and call, he could touch the untouchable and see the dead moved to their final ends. He'd helped children get adopted, he'd helped maintain an orphanage, he knew a guy who regularly ate rodents. Matthew Rivera had died at least twice. Matthew Rivera was probably not ready to help his friend get fitted for bras. "I'll make myself scarce when you're getting...stuff done...that isn't my business," he noted, only mostly hiding the inevitable cloud of teenage male awkwardness surrounding that topic. "I can always go look at guys' clothes, or something. But, uh, if she goes too far on the 'skin gunk' or whatever I'm pretty sure I could hold her back long enough for you to escape. Just sayin'."

Grim's three dogs (had there always been three?) circled him, warily - with their heads down and their hackles up, they seemed more concerned with the area than even a supernatural hedge entrance would normally warrant - and all Grim could get over their connection was something bordering on distress at the smell on the air. Something awful and familiar, buried somewhere in their genetic memory, that even they couldn't entirely place quite yet. "Well. If we were looking for something odd, I guess we found it," he muttered, crossing his arms at the out-of-place shrubbery as if willing it to try something. "Dunno if the rest of you hear that, but there are definitely dogs in there - or something like 'em. Pretty sure this wasn't here last time I was in the park. Anyone get a glimpse of how big this thing is?"
-
"You have to save petty vengeance for bigger things," Alice agreed, folding her arms across her chest, leaning back against the wall with one foot up in an attempt to keep herself from tapping it. Being awake in a jail cell was almost okay when she could steal things and try to antagonize Lou, but the charm was rapidly wearing off. "Like getting clubbed in the back of the head. Or having to find a new place to live. Or having to find a new place to live because someone showed up and clubbed you in the head." She hadn't survived this long as a professional thief in a hostile city by taking entirely rash decisions, but she was memorizing as much as she could about her antagonists for later...purposes. Just in case. "Petty vengeance is only foolish when it can be traced back to you."

Alice's over-the-shoulder reading of Sophía's work was both blatant and unapologetic, scanning the individual profiles with only passing (if unsurprised) curiosity - though Xavier's made her pull a frown, her mildly suspicious gaze flicking back up to where he stood. Not even the priests in Bedlam had a clean record.... The details of the robbery pulled her attention back, and she tried to keep up with the hacker's information-gathering as best as she was able. "Smart," she muttered, trying to imagine how she'd have approached the problem instead; probably less successfully, though she'd have liked to think she'd have gotten the skylight. Poor maintenance was responsible for so many security failures.... "When you're done with it," she quietly supplied, "wipe it down really well and leave it outside the bars. He dropped it when he was messing with the Sour Pickle, after all."

"Stay out of the cameras," Alice had mouthed just before Boyle entered view, gesturing to Sophía's left, at which point she instantly dropped whatever professionalism she'd been displaying to watch the assorted men talk at each other. Her expression only grew more and more impish as the conversation went on, until she could no longer contain herself and stepped up into what really ought to have been Lou and Boyle's well-respected personal space. "Oooh," she admired, thumping her left shoulder into the bars as she leaned over to poke a right-hand finger into Boyle's baton. "I've seen this video. We all leave," the young woman narrated, sweeping her hand toward the others...and conveniently not toward her imperceptibly-shifting opposite shoulder, "and then you're all alone with the big gruff type all at your mercy, with the strip search and your...baton." She was all grins, folding her hands behind her back and circling Lou - and by extension, Boyle - until she was all the way around to the wall near Sophía. "I don't want to be here, but that sounds pretty great. Can you send me the surveillance footage after?"

For record-keeping, Alice can auto-29 a Sleight of Hand check, which meets the minimum DC20 to lift something, and per chat exceeds the cop's max possible Notice. So yeah, she'll go ahead and nab his phone through the bars, even though it's a terrible idea.
