"No intention of leaving a world of people to die," Dragonfly assured the other heroes, nodding once. "One of the reasons I want us to see them. Three-person assessment, perspectives, all good data. Help people, punish anyone responsible, certainly. But extremely unlikely to give them any new technology." She paused, though one hand was seemingly independently gesturing at a drone that had only just appeared; it started projecting assorted charts and graphs that probably had something to do with the metaphysical location of the dimension they'd be visiting. "Could help jump-start benign technology they already have, though. Acceptable risks for some sciences. Electric generators, sure. Hydro power, geothermal, useful industry maybe. Nuclear, no. Defenses, unlikely."

Right behind you. While Cyberknife had continued to dig around in code, Dragonfly had been playing defense - she'd thrown up and had been maintaining a shifting, bubble-like manifestation that was probably what a more mundane firewall would want to be when it was all grown up. She waited only long enough to make sure Cyberknife was gone before dropping it and vanishing, cutting off her link to the swarm and leaving them to digest themselves. The snap-back to such a hasty exit, unfortunately, was literal - her head rocked as far back in her armor as it could, and behind her helmet's faceplate she squinched her face up in pain. "Mmmmhhhhhgh. Headache. Forgot how much it hurts to overextend like that. Worth it, though," shea countered, getting to her feet and powering her suit back down into stand-by. "You come out okay?"

"You are extremely morbid, Tarva," Indira observed - or, rather, Indira's silver, three-eyed head observed, having descended down from above on an impossible neck. She'd managed to hold out all of a minute once they'd hit the trail before shedding her humanity, legs becoming more like arms and arms carrying her up into the trees where she could climb and leap and stretch - physically and metaphorically. "And that is coming from someone who owns a religious totem made from a bear's skull." She bobbed, making an odd humming noise as she pulled her head back up and moved to another tree to keep pace. "Still. Remember that we are all here for you, Kimber. We are your friends, and will offer any support we can. You may always turn back if you choose, and we would support that as well, though I do not think you would choose that. You are...stronger, in many ways, than all of us."

Tiamat had completely disregarded the antibodies throwing themselves at her scales until her fire was momentarily spent. Only then did she move, far faster than a creature her size had any right to. Her own attackers she simply swatted, one great crimson arm crushing into them and sending broken bodies flying back into the crowds. Gaian Knight made a startled noise as teeth that were still trailing flame snapped closed much too close for comfort, leaving behind significantly less of the antibodies than had been there a moment ago. And the antibodies attempting an assault on Fleur de Joie received a quick but effective lesson in why all ends of a dragon are dangerous: her tail descended on them from above with a thunderous crack. She craned her head back around, eyes glowing like mad rubies as her tail flicked what was left of Fleur's attackers off to the side. Things best left unconsidered fell from her jaws as she flared her wings, bellowing a challenge that was felt in the bones as much as heard. She was, as in the tales, a dragon standing against an army's tide - and it was not a good day to be an army.

"No," was Dragonfly's immediate response, though her body language spoke of a mind that realized how that sounded immediately after it hit her own ears, and she made a vague hand motion as she re-gathered the thought. "I mean, yes, but no. Could build that, certainly; have done it before, under bad circumstances. Not easy, not simple, but doable. But, won't. Not giving unknown, potentially dangerous factions that kind of technology. Too risky, invites trouble. Stupid people would misuse it. Really stupid people would weaponize it. Smart stupid people would reverse-engineer it, come right back here, or go somewhere vulnerable. Nope, no." "Besides," she added, the radiation suit disappearing into nothingness the way the box had, "if that device was their best shot at dimensional travel it'd be like giving atom-splitting to the Roman Empire. Too far behind technology curve to understand consequences of meddling. Too far forward to not try anyway."

"Unsure why I'd tell you that," Dragonfly replied, with the flat tone of voice one might use to discuss the weather. "Defeats purpose of not inviting people. Grandstanding is for stupid villains and awesome science. Ellie might have a moment of sympathy when it comes up; I am not known for pity, though, and figure you've kind of waived those rights. Given opportunity, too, will ensure via security that you couldn't watch with anything less than a telescope." She cocked her head, pausing, and sounded...amused? "Also, deflection works poorly on people with multiple conscious trains of thought. Unsure you're burdening Gina with your presence - don't blame you for being afraid of her, though. Unfortunate. Was looking forward to watching her run over you with her chair."

Toughness Save vs. Antibody, DC25 (Bruise x2): 1d20+15-2 30 Silly antibodies. She's all armored up! And in return, she's going to smack them around a bit. Alas, she's light on combat feats, so she's limited to the +2/-2 on Accurate Attack, and the same on All-Out Attack. Melee Attack Roll vs. Antibody (Accurate Attack +2/-2): 1d20+7+2 29 ....hahahaha. Thatta girl! DC30 (-2 from accurate attack, +2 from all-out), and I'll just take the straight +5 from the crit for a DC35 Toughness save...except minions get one-hit KO'd on crits, wheee. And she'll cheerfully use Takedown 1 to inflict that on any targets within her +10' dragon-y reach. She's at -2 defense until her next turn.

I can see this working with either a male or female character, honestly (or intersex; it's a thought, though hard to do well); in keeping with the themes of death and duplication, this one died and didn't...quite move on. They aren't undead, though! The dogs there are some kind of supernatural psychopomp-for-hire, all made of liquid smoke and black fire; I figure they've been popping up in mythology and magic stuff for ages, most notably with the Aztecs, and they decided it'd be more fun to form a connection to our hapless hero and save his/her life in exchange for them being an anchor for the dogs' power - now the dogs get to enjoy the material world a bit and the hero gets all kinds of neat tricks, including the ability to summon the dogs fully into this plane to play support and go toe-to-toe with minion types. Rather appropriately, they're better fighters than the hero but the hero has more raw oomph, as they're native to Earth...and being lower on the metaphysical totem pole, it takes a small pack of them to really empower a human being. Combat-wise, pretty straight-forward; run in, punch things. Particularly lethal against the undead, of course! And make special note of that separate Super-Sense: that death awareness has a LOT of range, and by complication it doesn't turn off. Ever. The dogs aren't bothered, as it's part of their nature, but that kind of thing's going to wear on a human. This hero, in their civilian life, is probably a little iconoclast, cynical and under-rested, the bad boy or girl with the motorcycle that your parents warned you about. I could represent the dogs with straight powers, of course, but since they're supposed to have some personality of their own (think a wolf's take on the Cheshire Cat) I'm tempted to just use duplication, however annoying that may be in practice. They'd probably do a lot of tripping for the melee folks, set-up where they could, and aid elsewhere - harrying, mobbing, letting real heroes pick up the heavy hits and real combat progression. Unsure how it'd go in practice, though.

With a little extra breathing room and the whole gang present, Gaian Knight took a moment to cast his goggled gaze around the room and frowned. "Who wants to bet this whole ship is just crawling with reinforcements?" He spread his glowing hands out, directing his earthen storm out along the outside of the room - and as it reached each door, it left behind a rapidly-growing plug, stone growing and digging into the archways and door frames - minus what he could vaguely gauge to be a primary entrance or two - to seal off most of the Communion's points of ingress. And, for that matter, of egress. "What's the phrase?" he asked, conducting the earth sideways to continue its task. "We're not trapped in here with them - they're trapped in here with us? But hopefully we'll be awfully hard to surround or flank, while still keeping heat off of Velocity."

Alrighty. GK's going to block as many of the entrances as he can with his Create Object (13 50' cubes), except for the main entrance - and if there isn't an apparent main entrance, he'll pick a biggish one or two in whatever he perceives as 'the middle' to keep unblocked. Even if he can't block Velocity off, who knows who may have to venture out!

"Yup," Dragonfly was replying just as Cerulean came back in - the engineer had apparently opened the box back up for a moment, but she was putting the case back together now. She put one glowing gauntlet next to it with a casual lack of ceremony, and space went....wrong, for a moment. Little lines like creases in paper shot across the dimensional device's surface, and once they'd met each other on the other side it just...folded up into nothingness, like the thing was silently being crumpled up to the point of disappearing by a giant, invisible hand. She nodded to Cerulean as she dusted her hands, gauntlet powering back down. "Radiation can't leak from there. Just wanted to make sure it wouldn't interfere, do something weird. Always a risk. Call go okay, I hope? And...medium, yes, probably," she belatedly replied, tilting her head at Fleur. "Comparing frames of reference is a good thought. Curious similarities between disciplines, there. Can't guarantee it'll be interesting, though, Cerulean - welcome to listen? Usually a lot of frustration until someone realizes what 'up' or 'frequency' means in other person's context."

How much of a dent have we made in the horde? Is the currently-present group functionally endless, or do they appear to be getting reinforced from anywhere in particular? If we have reinforcement problems, GK's likely to block off what he can to (1) limit their avenues of attack while (2) not, y'know, trapping Velocity or keeping her from getting back.

"C'mon, purple man!" Eclipse, a relatively agile creature by nature, had manged to handle the landslide fairly well - though she didn't like the implications of how quickly that thing had broken ground. No one who'd taken as many injuries as she had could believe that luck could last forever. "Ain't ever seen someone as tough as you get knocked down for long! You wanna sleep, you do it on the ship home. You wanna live, you get up and do something about it." She took a knee on some broken ground, taking aim with her blaster and ignoring its protests as she fired another few shots at the slug. "Maybe go see how they're doing inside. We gotta get that thing down and get out of here fast - I don't believe for a second they only have one of these monstrous things hanging out here!"

Eclipse needs to acquire explosives. This is what she gets for going places without her minions henchpeople crew and their deconstruction skills. "It is true," Indira confirmed, with a roommate's friendly regret. One of her pant legs melted silver at the shins, extending a little ball on a thin metal tendril; the ball grew legs like an Earth spider, 'crawling' along the floor to tease and distract Avro from punishing their host's seats too badly. "They are fine songs, of course - I rather liked the movie. But when one does not even need to rest for food or sleep, the music becomes...distracting, after a while." Her 'spider' scuttled up her own leg, waggling its forearms at Kimber's unearthly pet. "I do not know many songs in English, however, so I fear I am of no use either. I am no great singer, anyway: I could never get the self-harmonies right."

Who has two thumbs and loves tricksters? This guy. Same caveat as before - haven't necessarily done final checks on the math, some numbers are probably running wild somewhere. This girl got a mask somewhere that was imbued with a sort of grab-bag of trickster spirits; now she's part of that mix too, bound to the mask (probably would have died without it, and would almost certainly die if somehow cut off from it?), and has gained a mess of oddball trickster powers. She might have an NPC mentor or two - adopted by full-fledged tricksters, maybe, who're trying to show her the ropes. Unsure how heavily she'd lean on the animal totems; I could pretty easily make her very cheshire- or fox-oriented by just limiting what the mask had bound to it before she put it on. Mechanically, she'd have a bunch of neat tricks: she has a couple offensive options (the ranged damage is some kind of fox fire or mini-lightning zap; the strike is her drawing on some of the more animalistic trickster totems to form claws), some utility (illusions! woo!), and a slightly different take on the duplication game - it takes more out of her action economy to generate her clones, but they're a little tougher, still have +Survival, and she can help out other people by demoralizing or feinting as a move action and then using set-up to pass that to a teammate. If her teammates need a distraction...well, there are all kinds of fun things one can do with Illusion, and they'd be a lot of fun to write. She also has luck control, which makes her a great team player....though with only 4pp, she's going to have to use it wisely. One small problem would be that this would directly conflict with my earlier plans to, at some point, make a low-PL, bordering-on-ancient trickster guy who could drop into threads with new players or characters, hanging out in the lower-PL brackets for some fun and shenanigans. This trickster build stole a lot from him, thematically, and I'm not sure I'd want them both active at once. Advantages relative to the other main option (above): A little deeper character-wise, mask full of trickster spirits is a great plot hook, powers would be fun to write, more duplication shenanigans, better team player, a bit less standard (befitting a less-than-standard Claremont team, by the looks of things). Disadvantages relative to the other main option (above): Does nothing to provide better gender parity in my character stable, competes with previous plans, a bit less spandex-y.

Totals: Abilities (24) + Combat (34) + Saving Throws (14) + Skills (5) + Feats (12) + Powers (91) - Drawbacks (0) = 180/180 Power Points Claremont Concept #1: Electric, duplicating speedster! This guy might be fun? In a lot of ways, he's just your classic speedster: very fast (breaks the sound barrier), attack- and defense-shifted, punches you, runs away. Haven't done final math checks, probably has some bad numbers somewhere. I did not give him many of the usual speedster tricks (area attacks, etc) for now, opting instead for something weird: duplication! This guy is, in fact, several speedsters when he wants to be, helping him support both his own offense and others'. He'll trip and interpose 'til the sun goes down, and +Survival will help him stay on his feet when something makes it past his defense. Thematically, he's pretty darn straight-forward. He's a guy who runs fast! Impatient, jokey, all the usual speedster highlights. Plus, he's male, which for my character stable would be rather novel. Backstory-wise, still sorting some details out - for personal entertainment, I'd say he died (or near-died) during some major incident, for just a short time, and got brought back from the edge of permanently pushing up daisies by something appropriately dramatic - like a big accident or lightning strike. Whatever makes him unstable enough to duplicate is probably what generates the electricity, rather than vice versa. My only real problem with him is that he isn't very deep or complex; he bears few facets. On the one hand that makes him simple, and there are benefits there...on the other, I risk losing interest if I can't find a good voice for him or if he doesn't bounce off other characters really well. This is a problem I had with GK, and while this character would be a fair bit more outgoing and up-beat than poor Tarrant was, I'm a little hesitant there. Advantages relative to the other main option (below): Speed, gender parity, more classically super-heroic, very easy to throw into just about any situation, certainly an archetype I've never played with, frees up basic trickster framework for a later, non-Claremont hero? Disadvantages relative to the other main option (below): A little more generic, potentially less interesting if he trips and falls flat, extremely fragile.

Dragonfly wasn't far behind Cyberknife, but she at least had the advantage of seeing someone else go first - or the disadvantage, as her partner in crime was long-gone by the time she had to make the jump. So she calibrated, gave a silent, standing command to one of her drones, and slumped where she sat as her mind went elsewhere. She arrived, at least, in time to see what was being done - and mmmhed in approval, turning her abstract, glowing, visored cyber-self toward similar programming. No, no, she told it, though she didn't open her mouth to speak. Anti-corruption checks? You don't need those, the technopath explained in the tone you'd use to admonish a child, reaching into the object and gently pulling something out to be discarded. Better off with out it, really. So expensive! Bet your friends would be so happy to be optimized for their new tasks....

"Wooooooooorms," growled the fang-filled jaws that came through the portal - however Tiamat's human form worked, it had apparently started to fall apart under the strain of the hurt she'd taken and the anger burning a fire in her belly. Potentially a literal fire - her mouth was leaking flame like she was keeping a small furnace in there, and it only got worse as she shed her disguise to unveil her true glory to everyone assembled, tail lashing through the air as she stretched. "IIIN-sects," she intoned, snaking her head down to antibody-eye-level. "BUUUUURN," she invoked, putting such fire in the word that it melted the floor...alongside a sizable portion of the remaining antibodies.

"I miss stopping landslides," Gaian Knight agreed, though Fleur was already gone. He frowned, squared his shoulders, and stepped through after her. His ever-present array of broken earth was only a few steps behind him, and as soon as he could see well enough to attack he sent them flying - streaming across the hangar like a whirlwind, a circular storm taking out anything it could touch. Which, given the sheer number advantage their enemies had, was unlikely to be enough. But if he could clear some room.... "Might want to step back a little," he called out, hands outstretched to sweep his storm sideways. "I think Tiamat's going to want to have some words, and I bet she's mad enough to not be too gentle about it."

"Ils sont terrifiants," Dragonfly replied, hovering into view, armor lit from behind by four bladed wings of twisted space. "Et nous sommes aussi. Would really like to just throw you into a dark void for a while, but friend made a good case for...politeness. So, terms: you do not get to see children without parents' explicit approval. Non négociable, and you will not make it past all of us - any of us - if you try something." There was a flicker of twisted space, like lightning, that ran up her wings - it was difficult to tell if it was good timing or done intentionally for effect. "Plus, Erik is a little busy, not going to let you bother him yet. So you can leave, or maybe you should spend some time talking to people who may want a word with you. Maybe start with Gina."

I'd previously done an Aid (Computers) check to assist with Miss A's check, and then realized that it was a Transform check and not a Computers check aaaaaaaaaahhh But having checked with AA, Computers should do fine; I'll keep the roll and just apply it to the next check Miss A makes. It's below, for posterity: Aid Other Check (Computers), DC10: 1d20+20 31 So by the aid rules (which I had to look up at the front of the book! Stupid later section is only for aiding attacks....), that's a base +2, +1 for each 10 she exceeded the DC10 - so +4 total.
