  1. "I would have sought the safety of those living above, but such has already been arranged," Tiamat admitted. Her response drew a surprised look from her partner - not so much for the content, but the way it was delivered. There was no posturing to her, no attitude. Even her accent had changed, slipping into what could have been mistaken for a lightly refined British dialect. "Past that, I seek nothing - a dragon survives by her own might, and the might of carefully-chosen allies. The borrowed power of gods and boons of supposedly-greater powers is best left to the humans, in their frailty and need."
  2. "...well, alright then. Tiamat, I don't suppose you'd care to do the honors?" Tiamat grunted in reply; as distracting as just the feel of Ghorummaz happened to be, her attention - momentarily - was on the hoard. Her glowing red eyes shined with something akin to envy, though she was hardly so enraptured that she couldn't glance back up at her partner and shake her head. "Not if you want it polite," she admitted. "I'm not much of a politician. You may have noticed." "....alright. Ah - pardon for the intrusion, oh great Ghorummaz" the geokinetic announced, offering a polite bow - and a tone of careful respect that spoke of some experience dealing with dragons of unknown temperament. "We only just found out you were even here; we came to learn from this area before the meteor arrives, and we've...ah, learned somewhat more than we were expecting. Finding out that you were here was an opportunity we simply couldn't pass up."

"Yeah, we lost ours," Gaian Knight admitted, sweeping in on his platform; Tiamat wasn't far behind, looking...vexed. "The teleporter vanished a little bit ago; Aquarius disappeared into his own fog. Got some good hits in, but couldn't quite bring one down before they skedaddled." "They were varied and coordinated," Tiamat mused, idly digging at the road with a claw. "The rout was good, but they're too unified to stay gone for long. That many people of such a spread of abilities does not come together for one failed job." Gaian Knight grimaced. "Yeah...yeah. Probably. We won't be caught off-guard next time, though; theme-wise they're missing a few people, but now we know what a lot of them do and how they work. They get a second chance at some point, but the playing field'll be more even. In the meantime, the town could probably use a little help," he added, a little more brightly. Think we saw an ice blockade still up while we were in the air. Tiamat and I can take that one if we want to spread out and clean up a little - find the remaining folks, get these people back in order before the civilian aid gets here." Tiamat moved to lift off, but paused, casting an eye down on Frost. "....I will deal with the ice barrier myself so long as the thermovore does not claim to help. Your talents, surely, are best used elsewhere."

"Mettle?" Gaian Knight smiled despite himself, pulling up on his platform of rock as lightning crackled across his breastplate. Its presence, as ever, was deceptive - in general it took more to hurt him than it did to hurt his 'armor'. "No, metal isn't really my thing. Ah, incidentally...." He gestured helpfully over Aquarius' shoulder, where Tiamat had (in a show of surprising stealth, relatively speaking) launched herself off the ground to lunge at the electric villain...but when the flurry of wings and jaws stopped just short of their target, her expression was a toothy grin, not a frustrated grimace. A flurry of blunt stone shards crashed into Aquarius from both sides, following Gaian Knight's gesture and capitalizing on the dragon's distraction. "Stone, though - I'll test my stone against you any day."

Seeing as GK and Tiamat are together at the bottom of the Initiative track anyway, they're gonna have some shenanigans. GK: Delays his init to 7. That ties him with Tiamat, but as she has the higher init bonus it puts her turn ahead of his. Tiamat: Move action: Fly right up to Aquarius. Move action: Fast Task Startle Intimidate Check vs. Aquarius (Startle) (1d20 + 22=24) ....bleh. Well, she'll try, at least. Set-Up to pass that on to GK, assuming it works. Gaian Knight: Move action: Close distance to ~100 feet (as he's still a short ways out, as I dimly recall). Standard action: Blast. Ranged Attack Roll vs. Aquarius (autofire blast) (1d20 + 13=30) ...haha, maybe Tiamat needn't have bothered. Well, that's DC28 base, +1 for every 2 that exceeded Aquarius' defense, up to DC33.
  6. "Yes." Wraith spared a glance at the nanites that had already hit the platform, narrowing her eyes at it in cautious suspicion - she was reasonably sure she'd be an awfully tough meal, but didn't really want to put that to the test against unknown, sinister technology. "Up is no longer an option. We go down; this area must have flightless access for maintenance and construction. We must find it." As Kimber began to freeze the incoming host she lashed out her arms, grasping Eve and Tarva in over-sized claws while she sprinted for the edge of the platform. "I apologize for not asking permission first," she calmly apologized as she reached the edge of their standing space, one foot digging into the edge of its surface to swing her down and into the platform's shadow before letting herself...drop. Wraith made no attempt to slow herself or her kidnap-ees down the slightest until they'd nearly hit bottom - at the last second she flipped around, hurling them upwards as hard as she could to slow their descent. The rest of their fall was met with a sudden (and surprisingly cushioned) impact on Wraith herself, who'd hit ground only to pull herself back into an approximation of a thick, gel-like crash pad. "That worked surprisingly well for a first try," she noted, draining away from around her passengers to reform into something more bipedal. "But I was mostly sure it would work. Please help me look for an exit."

Gaian Knight swore, quietly, as Aquarius took off after Tiamat - and again when precious few seconds went by without her usual crowing over a victory. That wasn't good. His platform, neglected on the nearby ground after he'd been bowled over, picked itself up and rushed back to his side - he didn't even slow it down as he hopped on and shot off after his dragon friend, one final gesture in Ares' direction in an attempt to grab him, too, in vines and tendrils of solid stone...and with similarly little luck. Also not good. "Gentlemen, I think you have this; I'll be back, hopefully. Not sure I like this lot playing two-on-one." "Hmmm?" Tiamat had turned an amused eye toward Aquarius, shrugging off his lightning as he spoke in a tongue she hadn't heard in...how long, now? A while, at least. "<Well, someone with a little sense,>" she rumbled back, lips pulling back over her teeth like an awful, predatory smile. "<So polite, as well. I may almost feel bad when we-->" She was cut off by Libra's magnetic pulse - she didn't seem hurt, really, but it had apparently hit hard enough to demand her full and immediate attention. She snaked her head back out over the edge of the roof, baleful gaze looking down at her attacker. "....no," she countered. "No, I think not. But the ground, yes. That idea has merit." Several tons of dragon dropped off the roof into the yard, digging deep claw marks into the soil as she snapped her jaws at where Libra had only just been.

Hrrrm. Not big on jumping into Velocity's fight there, but Ares has (probably quite a lot of!) Impervious and GK wants him out of the fight, at least for a bit. Standard action: Try to snare Ares. Ranged Attack Roll vs. Ares (snare) (1d20 + 13=21) That's...probably not gonna do it. On the off-chance that he's toughness-shifted enough for it to work, DC23 reflex vs. snare & tether. Move action: Fly ~250' toward Tiamat. Tiamat, meanwhile, is a little too proud to back out of that fight. She's just going to drop straight down onto Libra. Move action: Controlled drop off the roof. Standard action: Melee. Melee Attack Roll vs. Libra (unarmed; Accurate Attack +2/-2) (1d20 + 7 + 2=15) Yeah, that's...not gonna do it.
  12. "I'd suggest you stay if I thought you'd actually do it," Gaian Knight chuckled to Tiamat, quietly, as those who were going gathered and those who weren't dispersed. "I know you hate it when you don't have room to stretch." Tiamat snorted, rolling a shoulder and eyeing the ground. "Yeah, well," she responded. "If you get me stuck down there you owe me a whole pile of hoard. Coins, this time." He just laughed, stepping up to the center of their little expedition group. "All right, ladies and gentlemen, we're off then." He gestured, hands glowing, and the ground in a circle around the lot of them pulled its way free of the surrounding earth - but while he normally repaired the holes he made, this one yawned for a moment and then pulled itself down into a platform-sized cavern. "Please keep all hands and feet inside the Gaian Knight Express Platform at all times," he instructed, only half-joking as he made sure his goggles were pulled down and his face-covering cloth was pulled up. "If you have a flashlight or the like you're welcome to use it; I'll be leaving the tunnel open behind us so you have an easy out if something happens to me - though if I stop breathing, don't worry, not using your air is only one of the many services I provide. Attendants will be by to provide peanuts at the first layover, which is unfortunate because this train makes no stops." And with that the platform dropped into the earth, sliding down the tunnel like a bullet train on invisible tracks.

No, you are absolutely correct - I'd mis-remembered it as per incident, not per round. I have no problem rolling that back - having failed by ten, she'd be staggered + dazed. I'll instead invest that HP into removing the daze so that she can act this round.

At the arrow's impact, Tiamat turned to look at the archer with something approaching respect - her great jaws opened to say something, but it was cut off when the magnetic blast hit her in the side. Despite not appearing to do any real damage, it certainly got her attention: the dragon's head snapped back around, scanning the area for her assailant as leathery wings picked her up off the ground. Gaian Knight, on other hand, had to pick himself up the old-fashioned way. Lacking Gabriel's agility or Frost's transformation, he simply pulled himself up onto his feet, sweeping an arm out...not toward his attacker, but toward Sagittarius, tendrils of flowing rock obeying the glowing hand to reach up and grasp at the old-school sniper. He made a disappointed noise when he failed to get proper hold, though. Kind of surprised I did that well at this range. "You lot have an awfully interesting idea of 'not taking hostages'," he noted over the storm. "Sure looks to me like you took over a whole town of innocent people." "Slippery, too," his companion observed...but she ended on a note of satisfaction. In one smooth motion she wheeled around and hurled herself toward a rooftop, rain streaking off her wings as she hit the surface, and its occupant, like only several tons of armored lizard could. "But not slippery enough!"

From chat, Tiamat rolls to spot where Libra went ( Notice Check vs. Libra (1d20 + 10=26) ) and succeeded. Huzzah! GK's up first: Move action: stand back up. Standard action: snare Sagittarius, despite the range penalties (huzzah Inspired). Sagittarius was described as 300+ feet out - with 130' increments, that's two increments past the first, so a -4 penalty. It's coming straight up out of the ground, if that matters for the surprise factor. Ranged Attack Roll vs. Sagittarius (Snare; Inspired +5, Range Penalty -4) (1d20 + 13 + 5 - 4=30) Assuming that hits, it's a DC23 reflex save vs. entangled & anchored, or bound & helpless if the save's poor enough. Meanwhile, Libra has Tiamat's attention. Move action: Fly toward Libra to close the distance (~250ft). Standard action: Charge the remaining distance. Melee Attack Roll vs. Libra (unarmed; Inspired +5, Charge +2) (1d20 + 7 + 5 + 2=20) Oogh, don't know if that'll do it; DC30 Toughness if it does, though. Tiamat's at -2 defense until her next turn.

Gaian Knight flew toward the barrier on a platform of rock, low to the ground and with his hood up to protect him from the rain as best it could. He waited politely - even impassively - while Velocity and Gabriel tore a sizable hole in the barrier, but he was hardly idle: with glowing eyes and glowing hands cutting through the storm's darkness, he was clearly doing something, but it didn't become clear until the last of Gabriel's strikes echoed into silence. He brought both hands up and pushed them down, as if suppressing a giant, unseen object - and with the sound of grinding metal and crumbling road, the remains of the barrier sank into earth that simply wasn't there to support them anymore, the tops of cars left flush with the broken street surface and rendering the last of the barricade an open (if uneven) pathway into the city. The path didn't remain unoccupied for long. As terrible a presence as Tiamat could be when she wanted, it wasn't the sight of the giant crimson dragon circling out of the sky to land in the street that drew one's attention so much as the sound. No sooner had she hit the ground in all her scaled, tail-lashing glory than she bellowed - an old, primal noise you felt more than heard, the kind of thing that your tree-dwelling ancestors had outlived by learning to run away from. It was a noise that alerted every living thing in a remarkable radius that there was a predator nearby, and it was bigger than you.

"It's not a bad plan," Gaian Knight agreed. He was already sinking his senses into the earth, looking around for what he had to work with and any land features that might be handy in a pinch. Not that he couldn't create or transform whatever he needed, but it was always easier to use whatever was on hand.... "Fleur can always circle back with us once people are out of the way, if she's able to get in and out of that church quickly. Heh - I guess we get to exercise that American pride and thunder after all," he added, chuckling - though considering the task at hand, there was only so much humor in it. Almost unconsciously, he'd already gathered a sizeable array of rocks and shards that floated, waiting, above and behind his shoulders. "We don't want to scare them into escalating or taking hostages, but we certainly want to draw their attention." Tiamat scraped at the ground, grinning with great dragon teeth. "I think we can manage that," she rumbled, with an eye toward the town. "If they weren't showing signs of infighting, I'd say we split up - hitting at least two sides at once would demand more of them to respond. But if they aren't used to working together, we can outfight them as a single unit - their leader will be the strongest link, but the ones that insist on fighting and competing will be the weakest if we can keep them off-balance."
  24. "Who says we can't meet it in person?" Gaian Knight countered, sightlessly glancing around with gently-glowing eyes as he got a better feel for the area. He hadn't thought much of that granite plug earlier, but knowing what he knew now.... "Getting down there is a piece of cake; heck, it won't even take very long. I don't claim the kind of speed the father and son duo here boast, but I've never been out-raced underground." He frowned, trying to push his senses as far underground as he could, and once more regretting not practicing that particular power as much as he should have. "The hard part's the hazards. I can sense the normal ones, and I'd never take folks down near the mantle or leave us without air to breathe, but we still don't have a great idea of exactly what we're dealing with. I'd prefer we didn't take civilians, if it can be helped. They'd be great for camera crew but if things go south we might end up having to make a kinda rough retreat. Ah - no offense," he amended, glow fading from his eyes as he glanced toward the surrounding non-heroes. "I like you all too much to take you down there when we lack definite intel. You're...ah...." "Squishy," Tiamat supplied, grinning toothily. It sounded suspiciously like the voice of experience. "....right."
  25. Happy birthday, troll.
