Lament Cruel! Cruel! CRUEL! Hmmm, this was the King as he was now, bereft of tears. What was he like before? Lament had the urge to jump in now to save the boy more misery. Ah yes! But he held off for one moment. A wrong move now could well sink the whole ship. He had come here, unseen, to understand the King and thus chose correctly. He had only a half chance of getting it right - at best. The rich wine? the clear water? The humble cup? Twas not what the King would have chosen, but what Grendel's mother might mock him with. Or perhaps some clever poetry on both facets. He was drinking from a golden cup right now, which...was suggestive that the mother might have chosen quite the opposite; a humble wooden cup. Bah, he could not contain himself. No more tears of children. "BEHOLD OH GLORIOUS KING! THE SULTAN OF SORROW DOTH RETURN!" he said boldly, bowing most deeply as was his character.

GM "Anything but me" answered Penny, quickly. "Well, nearly anything. Not a clown, obviously" she said with a shudder. "They freak me out. Those smiles that go the wrong way? Brrr...." she said, hugging herself. "And not a frog. I don't like frogs much either. The way the hoppity hop and that big ballon where their throat is...brrrr....." "And certainly not a clown frog!" she concluded, almost going white at the thought. "Hey, why did I even think about that? Thats super freaky to the max! Have you got a spell of forgetfullness or something?" she asked. "Anyway any thing but that....!"

Sgt Shark Brrrr! Handsome? Nobody ever called me handsome....not like this! I'm a freak!!!! Sgt Shark found Sea Devil repulsive, of course. But, how she smelled was a quite different matter. And his nose was much more sensitive than his eyes these days. Disgusting and repulsive to the eye. But...the smell! By all the Gods of the Sea...THE SMELL!!!!!! He wanted to rip her apart and smell her. He wasn't sure what that exactly meant. But he wanted it all the same. "Smell....yes.....how crazy it would be....to...communicate....by....smell....." he said through gritted teeth, his jaw muscles straining with horrible power. His whole body was full of tense and flexing muscles.

Starshot On this matter, Starshot was honestly torn. He scratched his chin. On any other occasion, he would comply with Phalen's request. But Phalen did not quite seem sane here. What was his duty? To Phalen, or to Phalen's wishes? Bah! To go against a man's desires is the way to Tryanny. I am no lawyer, no philosopher, no psychiatrist! I never will be. And I would sleep better if I respected his wishes! "Phalen, though I think it unwise of you, I will take you back to your caves if you so wish. Be clear, I think you will die there, sooner or later, quite alone. I think I can keep you safe. I think I can give you a better life. But, I will not go against your wishes, despite the grim fate that awaits you. What say you? Think carefully, do not think with your gut or your spine, but with your head. This is no light choice..."

Two attacks on Justice, from Blowfish goons. As noted before, Blowfish is a little more careful in picking his goons from the common street thug, so they have +4 to Att / Def rather than +2, although they are otherwise indentical. Fire Pistols: 2#1d20+4 7 11 They both miss, however. Let us move into combat. For goons, wall, Kidd Init: Init Rolls: 3#1d20 4 10 16 With bonuses, that is: 4, 15,and 21 If Kidd wins, he is only going to go up the stairs, so we can skip that bit.
-
GM Justice reached the top of the stairs, having gained a dozen feet advantage on the Wall, who bounded up behind her. Below, Kidd and Jackson both reached the floor beneath, and both were out of breath. Bam! Bam! Bam! Two of Blowfishges' goons had taken cover in the top floor. Here, it was dust and concrete, and crates. Holes were in the wall, doorways were without doors, and electric lightning and water pipes were half finished. It looked like one could fall through the floor or even out of the building at several points. Behind two such crates, the goons were firing at Justice, whilst (presumably) Blowfish and his other two bodyguards were pressing on. But to where?

GM Penny stroked Astra too. "Well she is pretty weird. Strange weird. Not freaky weird. Well, maybe a little bit freaky" she said, her mind mercurial. "Look, I understand. I had a cat once. Bill. Dollar Bill. Haha. Yes, it went well with Penny Coin" she said, grinding her teeth a little "Dad is such a joker..." "I don't mind Freedom City taking pictures of you. Or even some reporter like Jack Jackson filming you and asking you questions. Its just I dont want fame. Well, I would want fame. Like being a really cool instatube star. But I dont want all the stuff that goes with fame. Not when I have these ears" she said. "So could you give me a break and disguise me or something? Give me a mask. Ill be your sidekick. Like...Munchkin maiden!"

Lament There really was no choice at all. Besides, the Void rumbled with hunger. But how to proceed? Mayhap a little more finesse this time. The void encompassed his skin, crawling through the dermal layers until he once again faded, an echo of his normal form. Not invisible, but like a shadow in the corner of ones eye. Muted to eye and ear. He thought it a good time to spy on the King. Get to know him a little better first. See if he could find out exactly what made the Elf King tick. And, of course, how much he could trust him. Softly now, he strode inside!
-
GM Astra was munching on something invisible floating through the ether. Who could truly say what it was? Probably not even Astra herself. "What the darnation is that?" asked Penny, slightly irritated now she had used up all her Cherrypop!s "Do you use it to grow herbs or something? Keep the gardens watered?" She fought the temptation to poke it with a stick. "Anyway, as you may know, Freedom City is a pretty zany place. But a walking cloud tends to attract attention" She pulled her woolen hat over her head. "And I'd prefer to live some kind of normal life. Without people pointing at my ears and calling me Spock...." she grumphed. "Is it possible to go incognito? Or use a cloak of invisibility or something?"

GM The Wall was big and strong, and despite his size, he was fit too. But he wasn't fast of body or mind. He only realised what Justice had done after she had landed. He wasn't best pleased with being outwitted. Not best pleased at all. In fact, it enraged him. And more angry, and steam would have piped out of his ears. He cursed in Spanish. He was a rather proficient curser, as it happened. Aside from the profanities, he mentioned something about two pencils and a banana which is best left to the imagination. Or, to be more precise, best not even imagined. The chase continued, but not much longer. A few more rounds were fired from the top of the staircase, again, unaimed. They did not deter anyone. Now, Justice was just ahead of the Wall, a floor down. Kidd and Jackson the floor below.

Beats whatever he is got, so you have the edge on him!

GM "Whats that? It looks like a compass!" said Penny, peering over the shoulder of Oz. She was most perceptive. "It certainly looks like a grade A puzzle solver. I love it when Puzzles have easy solutions!" she said, although her face was a bit more conflicted. Perhaps there was that sentiment, but it might be better described. She liked fun puzzles. With not too much danger involved. A little bit of danger, fine! The compass swung around in all directions. It wibbled. It wobbled. But after all its wibbly-wobbly flutters, it settled on clear direction. Freedom City.

Sorry! SO with that Oz can determine it was an experimental golem. It has all the usual immunity to magic but, being a very obscure type of Golem, somebody was trying something. The magic seems to be in the blue veins (a fungus) rather than the cheese itself. He can, if he so wishes, do some ritual or hocus pocus to try and track down from whence it came. Magic plot compass ahoy!
-
? Hasnt Oz got a +20 Know [Arcane]?
-
Its a blue cheese, for sure, but not one you can place! Probably European. Know [Arcane] too!

Sgt Shark The Sarge clenched his fists together so tightly he drew blood. Somehow, it helped him focus. Whatever tactical optimisation he had cobbled together seemed redundant. The Sea Devil...the delicious Sea Devil....seemed to have the matter more than under control. He swam back to the Sea Devil and Asad, fighting off the magnificent feelings that the smell of the Sea Devil evoked. "Robots...?" he queried. "What strange thing is this?" he said, swimming closer to them. They might not be flesh and bone, but ripping them apart would vent some of his rage. "I am an oceanologist and marine biologist. I don't understand this at all...."

ic SOPHie's Choice : Between a Rock and the Deep Blue Sea
Supercape replied to Tiffany Korta's topic in The Realms Beyond
Lord Steam "Bounty, pfff!" dismissed Lord Steam with a wave of his hand. He had hardly any need for money. He was from one of the wealthiest families in the British Empire. "What Bounty?" he asked in a flash. What the dickens has a bounty got to do with anything? On an alien space ship? "Is there an escaped criminal on the loose? wanted dead or alive? Is there a fabulous treasure on board? Pray tell, good sir!" he asked Hazmat, drawing himself up and wishing for a moment he had a splendid tall top hat. "Enlighten us!"- 27 replies

GM "Klara..Klara...you better look out Klara....the Old Gods are born Anew!" Morgen fell to her knees and dug at the rotten floorboards and cobblestones under the Church. "I tore out my eye and filled it with fire. I can see beyond this mundane world, to where Gods and Spirits sing and dance and play games with infinity. Can you feel it, in this temple?" she asked, turning her eyes (both burned and unburned) to Voin and Dreadnought. "I took refuge here, but it started calling to me. It is a bridge. And now it has overcome me. Or made me. I no longer know. It is all madness! It is all madness!" From outside, the rumbling drew closer and louder... "I could not stop it now. I am not sure I would want to..."

GM "Your plan, or mine?" answered the Wall, gruffly. He lost his temper, and raised his fist to Justice. "I'll stick to mine. You done us good, I'll give you that. But now its time for you to get out of my face. You ain't from round here. You don't know how its done. Blowfish is a slaver, is a killer. And no American Justice gonna do us right. There ain't no plan but my plan..." "You get in my way again, I'll smash your face" he said, before turning to climb up the stairs after the bullets. "You can't trust no Mexicans!" called out Kidd, huffing and puffing as he ran up the stairs below. Those cigars weren't doing his lungs any favours. "Goes for you, too Kidd" shouted back the Wall. "You might be bulletproof, but That don't mean my fists won't work..." Kidd, normally so confident, did seemed to pause at the thought. "Well my good pal Justice will take care of you whilst I take care of Blowfish!" he called back.
-
GM "Excellent idea!" replied Penny Coin, whose small frame was at odds with her appetite. "Do you...ummm....have any Cherrypops!...." she asked, innocently, trying to give the vague impression that two dozen cherrypops! with a negative nutritional value somehow constituted a completely normal brunch. Oz grabbed some of the smoking Golem. There were still a few slightly charred bits of goo that were not significantly burnt or vaporised by the lava. It did look suspiciously like a blue cheese. Stilton, maybe!

Lament Well now, that was a hint. Not an answer. Still...I'll take it! 'Twas a cryptic hint too. Lament had the feeling that there was no way to know right now, but perhaps it paved the way to finding an answer. The King might be jostled for a little more information. Hmmm.... No more pondering! To action! Verily, twas time for the seven league boots to once again boot up. And step leagues. Seven leagues, to be precise. UP UP AND AWAY! he strode, hoping somehow that the boots would guide him back to the King!
-
No that's fine. Time is on your side and even it was not, Frost vs roof had a clear winner!

GM This time, whilst the blast hit true, it faded instantly. A random fluctuation of that pulsating link between the reactor and Ether had flared, and absorbed the full might of the blast. "Am I feeding it? or it feeding me? or both?" called out a supremely confident Ether. "It does give me a great sense of satisfaction. Of...joy...even....ah!" he sighed, caressing the energy around him. "And you are cunning, and powerful, but not as cunning or powerful as me" He raised his hand and a fine spray of nihilus energy hit the ceiling. A moment later, the entire room was coated in the particulated dust from the evaporated ceiling. Enough to cause quite a sneeze. And enough to coat Delta in it. Making him quite visible!
-
Bringing Delta down to 3 HP! Tough Save: 1d20+11 31 well, looky there! Ether is going to use extra effort to control his corrosive energies...bringing a thick coating of dust down from the ceiling, and thus countering Delta's invisibility! For reference Delta - 3 HP - Unharmed Ether - Bruised, Fatigued
