  1. Ok so lets do an opposed DEX check to see who gets through the portal first! If it is within 2 points of eachother you will collide! Run!: 1d20+2 4!
  2. Diamondlight "Sure, I can buy a plane ticket" answered Diamondlight. He relaxed. As much as was reasonable to relax "But I guess you meant can I fly? Not something I ever learned, I am afraid. I can fire laser beams and forecfields. But not fly" he explained. "And I can do this..." He distorted the light around him once more, fading from view. He didn't hide his identity; in his view he had enough secrets for a life time and secrets could be used against you. But this was not the time nor the place for unwanted attention. "Can you?" he asked the woman.
  3. Curveball! It grated; Jazzy had been an athlete, and athletes are born with a competative streak. They had to have one. She may not have been world class, but she was a pro, and you only became a pro when you had grit in your bones. She tossed the baseball from one hand to another. "Take a look at this!" she declared, full of defiance. Sure, she might not get one over. But she would sure try, no matter what she was told. Whats the worst that could happen? So concluded, she pulled back her arm and let loose the ball with a lightning-whop throw.
  4. Either / Or? Seems we are out of combat so just a matter of time anyway. Or, if its one of those time critical things, could always use the Medicine skill "Revive"? Depends on your judgement I guess!
  5. GM "Large Truck? Sure, great idea!" Sonny was on his phone in a second, speaking Cantonese fluently and fast. Those who understood Cantonese would be party to a rapid conversation whereby Sonny was ordering a very large truck, and ordering it now, to their current location, paying a large sum of money chargeable to Club Immortus, Hong Kong, and even getting a reasonable bargain for such an unreasonable request. "Five minutes" he said in English to Frost. "Which, urh...might be a problem" he said, nervously, as the crowds started to congeal around them. "Police will be about five minutes too, and this is going to get political if we don't tread carefully" he muttered, with great distaste. "So if you are masters of invisibility, now would be a great time to be masterful" added Sonny. "Or otherwise do some party tricks to keep the crowd entertained..."
  6. GM "Sure thing, ma'am" said Slate, taking the card and pocketing it. "I'll be here for the next day, then back to the office typing up some crock of %$£" report. Forensics will come in sooner or later. Probably later" he grunted, oozing concentrated cynicism. "And I'll be drinking whiskey at the Black Pit and seeing if I can't spend the night with some lucky lady" he added. The Black Pit was a cop bar for a specific type of cop. The burnt out near retired kind who liked drinking and ladies (or indeed gentlemen) of a certain ancient occupation. Meanwhile... Under microscope, lens, and with the judicious application of various chemicals (and even a litte play around with some magnets), Wadjet managed to get a good understanding of the metal shards Lady Horus had found. It was steel, of a sort. Well wrought, and with various trace elements that acted to reinforce and provide a high heat resistance. Useful, one might imagine, for a smelting factory such as the Iron works, but unusual nonetheless. Unusual and expensive. There, that was a clue! Not easy to make either.
  7. I think Investigate is fine, and Ill take liberty of saying Wadjet takes 10 on that for a result of 20 which is more than enough to meet all the DCs. Information as per IC.
  8. Curveball! Jazzy entered stage left and started clapping. She never really got used to this, but she could fake it by now. Deep breathing, relax, relax, relax. She gave a convincing empty smile and waved to the crowds. This was hardly a usual day, but she didn't have usual days any more. Only yesterday she was filming a commercial for Billy Bob's Bargain Baskets, and the day before she was doing a charity bungee jump as a clown. And the day before that...well, lets not think about the day before that... Having four mutated arms that could throw baseballs like they were shot out of a mag-cannon had disqualified her from her sport. At least on a professional regulated official level. Oddball events like this were another matter. "Hiya everybody!" she called out. And she kept an eye out for these other guys. Black Diamond was interesting. And so very very black...
  9. GM As the fingers started to be pointed and the cameras started to flash, one man in particular scurried forward. He was a youngish man, one would guess. Short, bony, with spiky black hair. Chinese, by the looks of him, with dark eyes and flamboyant cheekbones. "Hey, hey!" he called out without an accent, stopping but a few feet from them. "I'm Sonny. Sonny Cho. Murk sent me to be your guide" he explained. "Well, he told me to be here anyway. Well, more specifically he gave me a sealed envelope and told me to open it this morning. Gave your descriptions and where to meet you. And when to meet you, too..." he explained. "Golly, you are bigger in the flesh..." he said, eyes scanning Dreadnought. "Not exactly incognito, are you? That's going to be awkward. Well, what are you here for? I'm here to help!" he smiled. "I know this city like the back of my hand!"
  10. GM "Camera's? sure. This place has cameras. Cut price piece of trash that barely works. Guess what? No footage of last night. Maybe the Camera failed. Maybe someone made it fail. I'd give that fifty fifty odds and no way of knowing which it was. Sure, we ran prints on the security office but I doubt we will get anything. Anybody smart enough to erase camera footage is smart enough to wear gloves when they do it..." "As for witnesses...nobody knows nothing. Maybe the night shift guard is lying. He looks sweaty, if you get my meaning. But then, he just had a broad pulped on his watch so he could be sweaty for all sorts of reasons. Especially as he stinks of booze" said Frank, summarising his bitter work over the past hour. He asked one of the forensic officers to start collecting the tiny metal shards on the woman, and it was dutifully done. "We should be taking these down the lab, I guess. To get lost and some burnt out drunk muddle his way through them. Might get lucky and get a competent one, I guess. Might get real lucky and get a competent one who ain't going to get bribed. Why, you got a better idea? I might just have to accidentally look away for a moment if you do..."
  11. Diamondlight Auguste dimmed and shut off the sabres of light in each hand. No need for violence, it seemed. "Snipers tend to be bad. Especially for the man in the crosshairs" he commented. On the face of it, the Swiss woman had made a redundant statement. Of course snipers were bad. But given the unusual circumstances (And that included the appearance of the woman) - there was something bad, or worse, under the immediate story. And he, for one, would like to know what that was. "Lead on. I am all ears..."
  12. GM Creek stood up and dusted himself off. He was unshaken, as far as Shai'iir could tell. It was hard to read that zombie face. He calmly put his guns in their holsters, one on either side. "Shootin' wont stop, boy. Not till the sun burns cold and the earth stops spinnin'" he declared. It was not a boast, more a lazy statement of fact. He was resigned to it, taking neither joy nor sadness from his condition. With that, he started running to the portal, intent on getting through. He was not slow, either...
  13. Curveball Service Diamondlight The Cretan Connection Echohead Reputation Table (+1 PP) 20Q (+1 PP) HellQ (+2 PP) GM Iron Works Hung From The Neck Poor Target Icy Juice Block Head Misc If of value Who You Gonna Call? which is also now linked in with the Guidebook entry on PC comparisons (Olopi's entry). If this insomniac hell entry warrants a PP, give it to Diamondlight. Even if not, its an amusing read. GM posts firstly to ensure every non-maxed PC has 1 post / 1 PP. Then, to push up the following PCs (in order) to 25 Posts / 3 PP: Diamondlight, Echohead, Snakebite, Mr. Murk, Curveball, Sgt Shark, Lament, Rev, Ronin. Guide point to Diamondlight
  14. GM And so, one step through dimensions later... Hong Kong, Midday... There was a tepid light raid than was irritating and added to the humidity of a hot day. Hong Kong added some pollution to the mix, and all in all it was a most horrible air. Still, there was pleasant aroma's of street cooking, and the hustle and bustle of a vibrant city. The Russian Consulate was a funny old building - a mixture of run down and renovating. It had, of course, a heavy history of spying from back when the British ran Hong Kong. And it probably still did. Hong Kong was a peculiar place, politically. Dreadnought's appearance was of course immediately going to attract attention and photographs and all sorts of interest. It was only a matter of time, and this was a big city. But the three heroes had a moments grace, being parked just out of view from the main street.
  15. GM And so... The rain was coming down hard now, and the night had a touch of chill about it. In more ways than one. The Nose drove well enough. His nose was arguably the finest on earth, but he could still use his eyes perfectly fine. The way he sniffed, however, one could only wonder if he actually needed his eyes at all. The man could practically smell the shades and colours of the cars on the road. He pulled up outside where Metal Head had been left. Although he was not there now. "Not so good" commented the Nose. "I got the woman's scent. And his. He is bleeding. Like you" he said, nostrils taking in the night air. "He is scary. Hard as steel. Determined" he added. "I know him. Brutal and direct. Callous. He cares for nothing, I think. But something hurt him. Something burned his face up pretty bad. I could smell the scars...."
  16. Life Sciences: You think the woman is probably dead. Search: You find a few shards of metal in the body that look a bit odd. As far as you can tell, the woman was killed at this site. Her wristwatch is crushed but you can tell it happened at 3:17 am (when the Iron Works was ostensibly shut/closed). There is the faint scent of engine oil on her. The metal shards are clues you could later analyse, as per Core Investigate Skill rules (i.e. do you have a lab?!) for starters, investigate roll to preserve and prepare clue for later analysis, or you can defer that to Frank Slate.
  17. Ok lets quickly wrap this up - we cant get too bogged down discussing how to travel to Hong Kong. Ill scene cut tomorrow. Can you let me know decision on how to travel and well go with that. Its not materially or narratively important!
  18. GM Creek looked around to see the portal. It was some farm, full of ripe corn and gentle rain. "See you around" he croaked, and the wind swept him through the portal. He tumbled, and his duster flapped. The noose around his necked whipped, and he landed flat on his face in the cornfields, fifty yards from a large wooden farm shed. "Nothing stops me, son. You just make me angry..." And to punctuate his words, the bullet he had fired turned around in a steep arc mid-air, and whizzed back, catching the Spellsmith in his back...
  19. Trip, he is not immune to - although technically it would only put him on his feet rather than blow him through a portal? Still, some breaks would be appropriate in this thread so lets ride with that. (As an aside there was a big conversation about portals and attack teleports some time ago, for obs reasons! One suggestion was to allow a reflex save to avoid being blown through which I would normally apply, but then again some breaks would be appropriate!) Opposed vs Trip: 1d20+2 5 Ok lets stop combat for now. He zooms through the portal to a farm. However, the bullet is homing, and still gets a chance to peow! HOming bullet: 1d20+8 21 Which I think hits, and DC 25 Toughness Save Also, for reference - 0 HP
  20. GM "Clues?" sighed Slate. "I don't see no clues. Just a pulped up body. We ain't been looking long. And I doubt we will, what with the goddamn budget cuts" he grumbled. "Forensics will take a look at her teeth and hair and all that stuff. See if they can get a print. But I doubt they will..." He took off his hat and smoothed down his hair before readjusting it back on his head. "The girl got pulped by something heavy. Real heavy. Now, we got plenty of machines here. This is a factory, an Iron Works. Somebody could have pulped her in one of the machines and dragged her here. God knows why they would do that, but they could have, I guess. But we ain't found and bones or blood anywhere else, so I guess if they did that they did a helluva job with the clean up" "Other than that, they must have had the strength of hercules. Dropped an anvil on her several times. Several dozen times, to be exact".
  21. And please roll those if you are inspectin' the pulped corpse!
  22. Thats all fine by me. And as distracted, grab an HP (Now 2 HP)
  23. Lament "I do love a fan" Luther had been DJing some jazz-trance spooky tunes, complete with a few magic tricks and all the props. The Great Zombo! Master of Voodoo! he had been, and was actually enjoying it. A change of scene. Abigail and Billie had done a great dance routine dressed up like zombies, much to the titillation of the crowd. And the Void had been feeding ever so slightly, insidiously, and was feeling rather bloated. Thank goodness. The show would have gone even better if he had reigned in the psychic parasite, but he was satisfied with a good performance, and a crowd that felt generally good about the show, albeit a few unfortunates who had been dined on and whom would feel uncharacteristically miserable the next few days. If things continued heading south, perhaps the Void would have something new to sate itself on. "They tend not to tie me up, though" he added. "So I'm guessing you aren't counting on a cup of tea and my goodwill?"
  24. I would be inclined to play out a bit first, but we are cruising towards: Search [For clues], with Investigate if you find any. Knowledge [Life Sciences] to examine the corpse forensically. At least for now!
