  2. Flintlock "Murder! Murder most foul and horrid!" screamed Flintlock, putting her hand to her mouth, then pointing at the woman. She stumbled through the door and wobbled, making sure her stomach stayed in one place, and, with iron will borne from centuries of experience, she kept the contents of said stomach from finding one of the two emergency escape routes. Assured that both ends of her tract remained closed with iron certainty, she stumbled forward a few steps. "Madam! Pray tell what wicked wickedness has occurred!" she said theatrically, waving arms about like an enthusiastic amateur dramatics enthusiast. "Be this man dead or dying? Mayhap I can help with the latter, and avenge the former?"
  3. GM "I agree" said Fiddle, fighting fatigue and his burns. "Yesterday, he was but testing the water with you, both in terms of your philosophy and your strength. Lamentably, he found nothing lacking..." He sighed. "In hindsight, we should have perhaps played his game, and penetrated his defences, so to speak. And yet, I wonder, for he has the most damnable insight into human nature. I doubt anyone could fool him, at least not for long. He plays like the devil at poker, I can tell you. Took my money several nights at the Royal African Club" he sighed. "Sits there with a poker face analysing every muscle on your face and every inflection in your voice. Don't know how the Club stands him, really..." "And now he plays his end game. The vortex of your arrival is still pregnant with power and he is well equipped to exploit it. I think perhaps we should go back to the place of your arrival. Trafalgar Square!"
  4. Starshot Starshot clicked on his computer map in his helmet, and the HUD started dutifully and unerringly plotting out the space station as they moved through. "Can't see any clear route to the helm, or control station, or whatever you call it..." he muttered through the intercom. But at least there was some power still active. Some lights. The kind of lights that could splutter and flicker and fail at precisely the wrong moment. "And only one way to go, anyway. Unless we want to go cutting holes in bulkheads. And I don't..." he concluded. Plasma Rifle powered up, he started walking down the hallway.
  5. Much much later...fifty years in fact (give or take)... Freedom City, New Years Eve, 2017, Early Evening. Mr. Murk Lo! For the preparations had started and nearly finished for the celebration of new year. Neoannual Jocularity, everyone! Mr. Murk never saw the fireworks, but was assured they were a splendid thing. By and large, he enjoyed the fizzling souls, sparkling around the city, caught up - mainly - with celebration and good will. Yes, there was gloom and frustration, even an anger turn inwards at another year passing without progress. But, as days went, this was a delightful one. He sat in the club of Club Immortus, Freedom City, enjoying the revelry. The doors were open to various immortals and friends. Free Brandy, free cigars. He had made sure a particular brand of cigar was available today, to smoke on the rooftop. The Freedom City branch of Club Immortus was the most modern and recent. Glass and steel and function, although with hints of elegance and antiquity to keep it in line with its purpose. Mr Murk did hope Comrade Frost liked it. He had sent the invite by old fashioned post, and was confident that Frost would come - even if just for the Cigars.... Maybe I should open up a club in Moscow...he mused to himself. He would certainly need Frost's help on that one...
  6. Taking 10 (Skill Mastery) on Medicine for a 15 result. Probably at -5 due to no medical kit, but gets a 10 to meet DC 10 Diagnosis?
  7. Red Rat Noemi felt a cold grip up her spine. Did she just kill the man? No...please no! She holstered her pistols and set down to look at the man. X-Ray scan of bones...anything broken? No med kit with her, but that didn't mean she didn't have basic medical skills. Pulse, respiratory rate, capiliary refill...all easy enough to do. And a scan - despite the dust and debris - for any major trauma. Head trauma particularly! It didn't help that she felt the breath of the horde of plebs behind her, but cold calm training kicked in, and the analysis was quick and calm.
  8. Mr Murk Mr Murk finished his brandy, which was rather splendid. "Excellent Sir, I knew you would" he explained. "Literally, I knew you would" he added, with a chuckle. "And in this case, not because of some future vision. There are...things I would show you, later. But not now" he explained without explanation, dripping with mystery. Mr. Murk got up for his rather pleasantly soft leather chair, checked on Mr. Fiddle (who was now snoring audibly thanks to brandy and opiate) and walked upstairs, so familiar with the layout of the office that he did it blind. "But now, I must sleep. Unlike you, it creeps on me. I am, after all, rather an old man!" ~ Fin ~ Here endeth the entry on Dreadnought in the Codex Immortus. But fear not, dear reader, for the adventure continued back in London Calling!
  9. And so, after the conclusion of Codex Immortus we continue our bold adventure set in the cold streets of London, yesteryear... GM It was early morning when the papers arrived, still dark on a cold London morning. Fiddle had been up, drowsy, the burns vexing him, but he was in no danger. Mr. Murk, of course, could not read, but listened attentively. "Stop Press!" read Mr. Fiddle, full of drama (for he had a little fancy with amateur dramatics. Always wanted to play Hamlet) "Further strange happenings and mysteries by Nelson's Column? Panic in government. Prime Minister urges calm. Advise avoid central London pending investigation by Police and appointed experts in the field of science". "Well that says pretty much nothing. Other than something is up, and nobody knows what it is" he sighed, slumping in his chair annoyed. He tucked into a soft boiled egg and tea. Mr. Murk was having kippers which smelled either very pleasant or very unpleasant depending on your taste for fish. "Except us merry threesome of course. I think time has caught up with us. Armitage is trying something...."
  10. Flintlock "By the sixteen...no wait! sheventeen dancing dervishes of Allhazred!" shouted Flintlock, standing up, sitting down and standing up again. Her finger wagged in a vague figure of eight at the ceiling. "That be a blood curdling scream!" she declared looking the football player in the straight in the eye with one eye of her own. Her eye other followed lazily, in no hurry to marry up the gaze. "I know, I wonce read a book on blood curdling screams! Blood Curdling Screams to curdle your blood, by Mortimer Von Oot. Why, he was a clever man, oll' Morty, but by the all the known unknown Gods, he was a drunkard...I Shwear, he wouldn't hid midday without five glasses of brandy. Shix! on a tuesday. Why, he never liked tuesdays. Can't say I blame him either, the most vapid of days, say I!" She knocked her whisky off the table with flailing arms as she demonstrated the story. As the glass smashed on the floor, her brain caught up with the situation. It was a blood curdling scream, after all. "And on that note, Gentlies and Ladymen, I must bid you depart, for adventure calls, and I must harken to the horns of horrible horrors! Or something like zsthat, jusht poetic!" she said, with gallantry, one hand on her heart, one keeping her floppy pirate hat on her head. Hat firmly in place, she half stumbled, half ran out of the drinking den towards the scream!
  11. Starshot His brow sweating from effort, Starshot nodded and grunted. "Damned if that monkey is coming anywhere near here....but....ungh....you have a point...." he conceded, reluctantly. It was dark. "Dugga get down here with a Lumex-5 Torch, will you...we need some light. And get into your space suit!" he told the Space Ape over the phone. In all honesty, it would be kind of good to have Dugga at the air lock anyway, keeping a lookout. "Best pack your pistols, Pardn'er...but leave the dynamite, ok?" he said, trying to sound like a cowboy and failing. "Mans gotta do what a mans gotta do!" replied Dugga happily, in a pretty reasonable John Wayne Impression. Dugga did love the Duke so. With a smile, the Space Ape swung through the Xeno to pick up the high powered torch.
  12. Mr. Murk "Our nature is woven with the nature around us" replied Mr. Murk, reiterating Dreadnought's comment. "Yes, yes, it must be so. I have seen many improvements in society. Democracy being the outstanding one" he explained. "But to the matter, before we attend to Armitage. I am proposing a codus immortus, a code of conduct for immortals. A club, one might say. Of course it will not be a matter to be enforced, it would be a voluntary code. But one which would be binding" "In principle, it would bind those signatures to not kill an immortal, or submit them to inhuman cruelty. Moreso, it would bind them to aide another immortal in such distress, irrespective of their previous morals or ethics. No crime is infinite, and neither should punishment be" He smiled. "Yes, I like the sound of a club. Once my resources coagulate further, I shall probably set one up! I quite like Soho!" He drank some more brandy, pleased at the notion. "What say you? A responsibility but also a resource!"
  13. Starshot At last! Some light! All manner of strange fauna lurked here, and it was nigh impossible to disentangle friend from foe. The beast looked dangerous, and probably was. But what was its intent? What did it eat? What the hell was the ecosystem here? Did they metabolise light? lichen? No system could just maintain itself on eating each other. Starshot beckoned over the two young aliens and unstrapped his helmet, pointing once again to his forehead. If anybody knew it would be the native so this world - although they might be just as in the dark as he was.
  14. Starshot Starshot tapped his helmet. The HUD was working fine, but he was getting grumbling disquiet. Sure he had hunted underground before. The Ezethian thundersnail. The Double headed Vortoo of Jexx. But he preferred the open plains, the icy mountains, the twining jungles. Hell, even the ocean was better than caves. His first inclination was to avoid the chamber. Continue down the passage in the hope it would lead them to the other side of the rockfall. But perhaps, perhaps...well, it paid to understand, he reasoned. Know your terrain. Know your enemy. He signalled the others to be silent, be stealthy. And taking that same position; of silence, of stealth, he crept forward into the Cavern, gun ready, helmet scanning IR signals...
  15. Mr. Murk "It seems I am in the company of amiable folk" proclaimed Mr. Murk. "I can dispense with the cloak of gloom!" He waved his hand idly, and shed a grey wispy fog from his body. There was a cool, unpleasant feel and the sound of flies, and then the murk was gone. Mr. Murk stood now as he truly looked. A squat Neanderthal dressed like an Edwardian Gentleman, complete with bowler hat. His eyes were milky and opaque, quite blind, but he looked at everyone nonetheless. "I foresaw this happening, and the smell of blood" he explained. "The future is mysterious and I catch but glimpses. I cannot say which road we must travel, but for myself and no doubt the merry troupe of swashbucklers that have congregated..." he nodded at Shrike, Warp, and Queenie "...we are at your half-service. To catch you wizard, but not execute him" he concluded. "I can sense the flow of Eldritch rivers and the vortex of souls. The wizard would be lucky to evade us, even in Greenland" he smiled at Warp. "Although I would like to go to Greenland again. It has been an age and more, and I hear it looks quite beautiful. For me, I can feel the snowflakes on my skin and the breathe the icy clean air. 'Tis extraordinary!"
  16. Starshot WIthout a word, Starshot pointed to his eyes (or at least where they should be, under his helmet) and then to the exit, indicating the motley crew should attend to their escape. Still, it didn't look like a pleasant trip. Hopefully the flare light would last for a few minutes, giving them time to cross. Better than retreading their path, anyway. As quietly as he could, mindful of rocks and crevasses, and trying to balance out the need for speed and the need for safety, whilst looking out for further bat attacks (and fully appreciating how impossible a balance of priorities that was), Starshot took point, leading them towards the exit...
  17. Starshot Starshot quickly checked the power cell on his rifle. Nearly half drained after the overburn. Not good, will have to conserve power unless I want to end up throwing spears...which might be an idea... He motioned for the others to be quiet. The cavern was full of bats, and only a few had flown at them. "Keep quiet!" he hissed as softly as he could get away with. Now the light was up, he could see the illuminated cavern better. "Its dark here, they must use something other than light to sense us..." he explained, although surely they had clocked the idea themselves. "We need to get out, fast...before the rest come..." He scanned the area as best he could...if there was no other exit immediately available, they should leave the way the came...try another route...
  18. Move Action: Move! Standard Action: Overnburn array: Damage 10, Line area. See if he can catch a couple of them in the area.
  19. Starshot Well, what do you know? I wish they were smaller, but they could have been a lot bigger.... "Take cover!" he ordered, most likely redundantly. But still, it was sage advice and advice that he took himself, taking a few quick strides to the nearest rock. He pulled up his rifle fluidly and flicked it on, changing its muzzle setting. He didn't really want to fry some bats who didn't, in all probability, know better. So if they could get out of this without charring to many of them, so much the better. But rather them than me... He considered a flash of plasma-light to blind them. Might work. But they probably didn't have light sensitive sensory organs, what with living in the dark. Instead, he overcharged the rifle; a huge fiery burn of plasma bloomed from his rifle... "Anyone got some music?" he asked his crew mates, wondering if they could disorientate the bats. Not that they were bats, of course, but they sure looked liked bats. And echolocation would be a fair way to navigate in the dark.
  20. Initiave roll in cavern: 1d20+10 24
  21. Starshot "Damn Dugga, leave the bombs!" shouted Starshot over the radio. "No bombs! And no smoking cigars!" he ordered, well aware that the Space Ape would probably ignore him. Like every damn time. "Let me give you a hand, see if we can't wedge this thing open...its like a bear trap..." he grunted, slinging his rifle behind his back and putting his arms and legs to work with Bliss, straining to move the doors open. That they had moved at all was both impressive and heartening...surely a bit more effort and they could pry the thing open together. Starshot was no stronger than a human, and could exert himself if needed to. "If its any...help....the Damn Space Ape wanted to bring...explosives...." he grunted at Bliss. "So...we better...get this thing open...ourselves...." he groaned, straining his muscles "or...he might just...blow us all up!!!"
  22. Starshot "Sounds like bats...." Starshot pulled out his flare gun. Only a couple of flares left, but this seemed worth it. They needed to see the cavern properly, not just with sweeping beams of torchlight. "I just hope its the small mouse like type, rather than the giant flesh eating carnivore type" he said, with a black joke. He wasn't really in a laughing mood, but some bleak jocularity grumbled in his stomach. "Lets take a look, shall we? Just keep your guns ready..." he said to his two team mates, before aiming high and firing the flare gun into the centre of the cavern...
  23. Starshot The options were a spartan and unappetising menu. "Better force it than Cut it open with a plasma beam" he reasoned, slinging his rifle low. "Could be anything behind the airlock. Things that go boom, for instance" he said through the intercom. "Just make sure your vacc - seals are tight" he added, rather redundantly. He was sure Bliss was as home in space as he was and probably considerably more so. It was a discipline and advice he applied to his own suit, however. "Dugga, heads up. We are forcing the door of the space station. Things might happen" he crackled over the radio to the Space-Ape. It wasn't the most precise or helpful of advice, but it was at least honest. "Go for it, then...." he nodded to Bliss. "If you can't, then I guess we cut through..."
  24. Starshot Starshot peered through each pathway. Without his navigation system, he would just use the usual tactics of always turning left, or right, with the reasoning he would reach the other end sooner or later (admittedly, probably later...but he would reach the end at some point). "No way looks more, or less, appealing" he commented, his gun slung low and powered down. He studied the HUD navigational maps; provided he conserved the X-Ray emitters and radio transmitters, the other functions of his helmet would last a long time. But not forever, even Trilithium hyperdense batteries failed eventually. Hopefully they would not be here that long. "Onwards then..." he sighed, choosing the middle path. "I don't need to remind you to keep your eyes open. Something strange in these rocks, too...can't penetrate with X-Rays...."
