Ok how about I stunt a create object (Wall of steel) as protection. Spending an HP to do so (and generously taking it back as per your offer!)?

Nelly the Elephant jumped through the air.... Mindful of a vulnerable Billy, acutely aware of how wood would splinter when hit by a flying pachyderm, and determined to avoid any explosion of tree and man, Pitch surged forward. She did not fancy unpicking shattered bone and shredded flesh. It took inspiration, it took force of will, and right now she had it. Reaching deep into the vast and mad space between dimensions, her hands and mind whirling through the bleak space between space, where mad piping music piped, and mad idiot Gods danced, she reached directly to the infernal forge, and pulled. And so pulling, she drew into the mundane yet exciting earth a sheet of steel, black and smoking, with spindly cobweb limbs stretching through trees, crawling into the earth, and aimlessly through the sky. A steel cobweb of nails and bolts, a shield, a wall, a buttress. Something between Billy and the elephant...

GM Indeed he would not. With a splutter of smoke, with a flurry of fire, Cut Throat was thrown back, gasping and in shock. He was clearly, as they said, a tough guy. He even stayed on his feet for a few seconds, before keeling over backwards, out could. There was a tinkle, as the knife he had held slipped from numb hands to the floor, and came to a juddering halt on the hot floor. Despite, or perhaps because, of the firestorm Bonfire had unleashed, there was still an unpleasant twang of heat in the air. Something dry, something that prickled. The kind of heat Bonfire was now so aware could come from an overheating reactor. Something hot, right above him, on the top floor of Neutron Industries...

Pausing. out of combat for now.

His defence is 9, so thats +4 to DC, 31 DC. As his toughness is only +4, and he is bruised x2, He could only make 21, so to keep things simple (and as he cant actually harm you), you cam knock him out. Knock him out. With flames. *Ahem*. Long live comic book science. Post away and good luck with comic book science on that one!

GM Fire swirled like a tornado up and down the stairwell, caught in a powerful vortex. Steel melted and bent, and more stairways collapsed until there was barely anything left to walk on. Marie came tumbling down, her body armour on fire, and slammed to the ground with a whimper. "Got ya!" yelled Cut-Throat, who was looking red and inflamed but not burnt. His hair singed. Cut-Throat was big and fat, but still limber enough to jump down to the ground floor without harm, and draw another of his knives. "This is how I got my name!" he sneered, and with all his power, he slammed the knife into her chest, through her armoured environmental suit. Marie gasped, coughing blood, and passed out from shock. Cut-Throat grinned a grin of victory. "Stay back, Smokehead!" he warned Bonfire. "This lady has it coming. Nobody gonna miss a terrorist!" Green, largely unharmed by the blast, gave a barely heard chuckle, and ducked through the highest door of the stairway, into the reactor room.

So Green will duck into the top floor level (out of sight) Cut Throat will jump down to the lower floor and stab Marie. Stabs Marie: 1d20+8 28 Is a critical full power shifted attack, which means a Damage 10 Effect (DC 25) Toughness vs Knife: 1d20+10 12 This makes her unconscious and disabled (lethal damage). Round 5: 20 - Bonfire, Bruised, 1 HP 16 Marie, Unconscious, Disabled, Bruised x3, Injured x1 12 Green 5 Cut Throat, Bruised x2 Bonfire is up
-
We have not finished Round 4 yet, but as it got all mad.... Round 4: 20 - Bonfire, Bruised, 1 HP 16 Marie, Staggered, Dazed (till R5), Bruised x2 12 Green 5 Cut Throat, Bruised x2 Quote Edit

Right sorry for the delay. Rolls, lots of Rolls! To keep this simple and because I am lazy I am going to amalgamate reflex rolls for the AoE: If you fail, you take damage and fall, if you pass, you cling onto something and half damage. Cut-Throat has a little cover so +2 Reflex Reflex vs volcano: 1d20+4 18 with +2 bonus is 20, just making the DC 20. So thats Damage 5 effect on him (DC 20 Toughness) and Tough vs Volcano: 1d20+4 18 Cut Throat is bruised. Marie has almost no cover and highly damaged stairs, so -2 Reflex Reflex vs Volcano: 1d20+6 11 She fails, so DC 25 Tough save, and falls, another DC 20 Toughness Save (winging that falling damage a bit)Tough vs Volcano and Fall: 2#1d20+12 15 18 Meaning she is Staggered, Dazed, and Bruised x2 Finally, Green also has a +2 Reflex bonus due to a little cover. Reflex vs Volcano: 1d20+8 21 he makes his save, and thus has a damage 5 (DC 20) Toughness save which is Tough vs Volcano: 1d20+6 20 made.

Faeries hey? "Not me! They taste delicious!" she said, slurring slightly and wobbling. "Pixies and Sprites! They do love to dance and sing. But they can also vex ones skin. Tricksome devils, vexatious foxs!" she declared too loudly. "But, they have their uses!" she said. More seriously, her eyes almost square, she continued. "Why, are you a changling? Ah...ah...that could be helpful...sort of..." she said, nervously, twiddling her fingers akwardly. Flintlock had tracked the invisible stream of incorpreal blood using faerie powder. That was, the burnt ashes of dead faeries.

Doctor Warp trod carefully, for fear of putting his boot through the ceiling. I'm sure I can hear cracking...he thought to himself, feeling neurotic. Although his neurosis was probably justified. His super dense body was tough, but falling through a building would not be a pleasant experience for anyone. "Oh I blend in very well. Look totally normal" he answered with a grin. "Just give me a bow tie and some clown boots and nobody would every know it is me" he said, wobbling slightly. Don't move.... "I am at your disposal my fine fellows. Quite frankly, I am probably most use as a human cannonball. I know, I know, you would never have guessed given my svelte and toned physique..."

Right then, sorry for the delay. For further clarification - are you targetting all three NPCs? Shapeable may make it hard to not - but your intention?
-
"I think I could stretch to that" replied Doctor Warp. Technically, of course, it was not stretching. It was just that everything else was contracting. But he fancied that lectures in spatial relativity were best saved for another day, another audience. Or, another quantum reality. With a relative contracting of space via dimensional lensing, the mighty massive Doctor Warp elevated himself and his two new friends to the roof, and promptly returned his body to its "normal" shape. Of a short fat man. He felt his weight on the rooftop. Not all surfaces or roofs could take him. "I hope this is reinforced..." he commented.

Just a quick check - that kind of effect will likely damage the poor stair cases even more - with Cut Throat taking a small fall, Marie a medium one, and Green at the top a big one. (At least potentially).
-
GM Cut Throat was a large man and exposed. He did not look in a good mood, thanks to being stabbed in the back (metaphorically by Marie, and ironically given his gang) and now dodging falling debris. Credit to the man though, he did not falter or wobble, despite the horrible disaster that was the theatre around him. "Damn the lot of you! All in cahoots!" he shouted, and drew back his arm that had acquired another knife in its hand. Now Bonfire was near, he could see that the huge gang leader had a number of scars on his fat muscular body. And hand over a dozen knives at his belt. At the last moment, Bonfire transmogrified to furious flame. The knife passed harmlessly through him and stuck, juddering, in the ground level door.

Ok so to keep things kinda cool, Ill say Cut Throat throws a knife at you, and it hits, but passes through you due to your heroic effort! Round 4: 20 - Bonfire, Bruised, 1 HP 16 Marie 12 Green 5 Cut Throat, Bruised
-
"I may be drunk, madam, but I am not stupid!" replied Flintlock dramatically. "Ye terms be dandy" she agreed. "Read the book, safe and sound like! Away from the oceans, and rivers, and seas. Away from prying submarine eyes! Yes, dry land would be best for so nefarious a tome!" "Is it a long ride? I have no steed, I am afraid. Mayhap one of these horseless chariots? Automobiles? Do you have one of them? Fantastic things! Although I prefer horses. I love some muscle between my legs! Wey heyyy!" she laughed, slapping her thigh and giving them a wink. "But I do have one condition. Gimme back me pistol!" she demanded, eyes wobbling in different directions as she tried to focus.
-
Works for me :). Post the fall and heroic effort then I will get to Cut-throat. For reference Bonfire is now down to 1 HP

Green looked worried for a moment, fingering his gun and pondering the potential hazard. But he was a man with a strong default position when dealing with uncertainty. And he defaulted to that position. Which was shooting. "Don't you worry about an overheating reactor, kid!" he yelled back. "You just worry about your terrorist ass!" With that, he fired at the stairs, already frozen, already creaking. His gun was powerful, pure force. Steel cracked and in an instant the whole damn stairwell was collapsing. Marie jumped to safety, anxiety lending her wings. As the stairs collapsed and tumbled down, Cut-throat ducked out of the way of the falling debris. Bonfire, caught in the centre of the collapse, was less fortunate. The fiery hero started to tumble down...

True: So extra effort to turn into smoke just before you smash to the floor? (as a surge out of turn order)? that seem ok? Im Ok with using 2 HP (or combination of HP / extra effort) to go the whole hog and into fire form if you wish. In these situations I think rules are guidelines and do what seems most fun!
-
Thats all cool by me!
-
No need for an HP. It not really a combat thread, but if you feel it warrants it, go ahead! To be honest I was vaguely thinking of Mr Smith dropping out of the picture, but this is a collaborative thing, so if you want to bring him back in, thats cool too! Whatever you want, ill roll with! Improv!
-
Quick note - no railroading here. If you want to burn it, burrrrn ittt! Of course you may want a horrible tome of sorcery in your bookshop for future shennaingans!
-
"Destroy it?" gasped Flintlock, theatrically holding both hands to her heart. "Verily, I be tempted!" she said, pondering her chin with her hand. "'tis not a tome for the eyes of the world. To read it, one courts madness! But, it is also contains much lost knowledge, so I understand" she said, more seriously. "Such knowledge may be the worlds undoing, but it may also be it's salvation. Just as it may be the road to Dagon, it might give the clues and rites to stay his awakening" she explained solemnly. "There is no safe way, such is life. Tell me, are you so sure we should burn it?" she asked. "Fear not, I have no wish to buy it. Bury it, maybe. Hide it away. If it is safe here, then seal it away. Make it safer. Tell no-one!" she said, dramatically sealing her lips with her fingers. "No, I have no wish to buy it. I have a fine set of books on me ship, but my ship is known on many strange tides, and such a tome would be a target!" "Not buy, no. But consult, yes! Let us read it!"
-
That is fine by me! Marie will ignore, as she is consumed with rage. Fires at Green: 1d20+10 13 Misses green, and she takes cover. Green will blast - the stairs! Ill give the support structures a defence of 5. : 1d20+6 15 smash! The stairs come tumbling down! Reflex Save DC 15 to jump to a safe part. DC 10 to cling on to the edge before falling (and you are flat footed and dangling dramatically) Reflex against collapsing stairs: 1d20+6 20 She jumps to safety. Cut Throat, meanwhile, has a similar reflex save (DC 10) to avoid falling stairways / debris. Reflex vs Debris: 1d20+4 12 Just making it. Ill hold IC post until you post your reflex save vs collapsing stairway. If you do fall, its a Damage 10 effect, although ill allow a HP / Extra effort to surge into smoke/fire form.
