  1. GM Marie almost giggled at Bonfire, but it was a somewhat hysterical laughter. Her goggles blazed once again with green light, but for a moment she could not decide upwards or downwards. Eventually, she focussed the searing green light downwards, splintering glass and melting steel as Cut-throat darted back into cover. The stairs started to creak ominously under the strain of being both super cooled and then melted with furious radiation. Cut-throat was shocked, but was fearless, throwing another knife at Marie. It hit and shattered glass, sending more tinkling down the stairs to the ground floor. Green's hose ran dry, spluttering a little more coolant ineffectively. Cursing, he brought out his blaster pistol. Deprived of coolant, there was a worrisome whine of the reactor on the top floor. Marie's radiation detector went ping, excitedly.
  2. Round 2 20 Bonfire - Bruised, Dazed (until round 4) 3 HP 16 Marie 12 Green 5 Cut-throat: Bruised Marie will open fire on Cut-throat: Blasts Cut-throat: 1d20+10 18 given he has partial cover, that will miss. Green flubbers about, running out of coolant, and draws his blaster pistol. Cut-throat moves in and out of cover, and throws another knife at Marie: Throws Knife at Marie 2: 1d20+11 17 this time, missing (he shifted power attack). This means after a gloriously ineffectual round back to Round 3: Round 3: 20 - Bonfire, Bruised, 3 HP 16 Marie 12 Green 5 Cut Throat, Bruised
  3. Far out, man! She may have been rock, she may have been punk, but there was a little hippy in every punk rocker. Embracing the waves, she let them take her, unresisting. The smoke turned to ash in the water, the fires of her breath snuffed out. And she sped along the torrent, determined, eyes fixed on Billy. At just the right moment, she reached out, spinning a chain from the infernal forge, the cold black iron snaking its way around the remains of the splintered tree. Muscles powered by infernal fire, she pulled herself through the frothing water to the tree. "I'm coming!" she yelled through the water and spray.
  4. Yep just dazed and bruised!
  5. Yeah lets go for that. STR bonus on water: 1d20+7 20 Makes the STR roll. Chained Tree Attack: 1d20+11 25 makes the attack roll, so does that mean that she ends up tethered to the same tree as Billy?
  6. Toughness save vs Elephant Trunk: 1d20+11 30 I think Pitch may have a bruise or two but that is still a robust save.
  7. GM Marie took a step back, her eyes seemed to dull with fear, losing their green glow. "Damn you all!" she said in a low voice, giving Bonfire a look. "You can't back out now! traitor!" she whispered to him. Green gave a merry laugh from above. "Thieves and scum! You can't trust them, can you?" he yelled gleefully, before activating his hose. "Technology though. Now that, you can trust! You see, our reactors can over heat. They need serious help to keep cool. And, well, it struck me. I could use some help in cooling you off, both of you! hahahaha!" he laughed, before unleashing his hose. Down, down, down sprayed a fine mist of liquid hydrogen, snap freezing the metal. The cloud of cold was forced down the stairwell by the extreme pressure of his hose. The air crisped, and it hurt to breathe. Marie raised her hands to her face, but whilst her hair stiffened and her tears froze, her suit and radioactive glow kept her warm enough. Cut Throat was slower. He gasped, and gasping was not good. His bare flesh burnt with the cold and he let out a long scream, the air of his breath freezing in the icy mist.
  8. Right, as you are on a stairwell that will give you partial cover from all attacks. Marie will be paralysed this round (with emotions!) Green will fire his hose, which is a coolant gas. Effectively this is a combined Damage 8 and Paralyse 8 (Fort Save) area effect. Ill give a +4 bonus to reflex save given partial cover. The Reflex save is 23. So thats DC 23 (or 18) Toughness save vs Cold Damage. As Bonfire has cold damage vulnerability that turns into a Damage 12 effect (so a DC 27 or 21 Toughness save). Plus, a DC 18 (or 14) Fort Save vs Paralyse As its also a cold effect, that turns into a Paralyse 12 effect (so a DC 22 or 16 Fort save). The coolant spray also effects Marie and CT Marie: Reflex vs Coolant Gas: 1d20+6 24 makes her Reflex save, Tough Save vs Coolant: 1d20+12 20 makes her toughness save, and Fort Save vs Coolant: 1d20+8 17 makes her fort save too! Cut Throat: Reflex save vs coolant: 1d20+4 8 fails his Reflex save, Toughness Save: 1d20+4 14 fails his toughness save (bruised and dazed), and Fort Save vs Coolant: 1d20+8 22 makes his fort save. Cut Throat cant act this round, so back up to Bonfire (depending on his saves!)
  9. Round 1 20 Bonfire - 2 HP 16 Marie 12 Green 5 Cut-throat
  10. GM "Enough yappin'" said Cut-throat, pulling back his arm. "Ain't no talkin' gonna bring my friends back to life. Ain't no talkin' gonna get my friends outta the slammer!" he said angrily. With a flick of his arm, with the speed of a snake, he threw the knife. For all its fat and muscle, the throw was blindingly fast, and impressively skilled. The arm and hand moved like a whip, and the knife flew through the air like it was on jets. Thud With a little tinkle of steel, the knife fell to the floor. A direct hit on Marie, straight where the armour was thickest and hardest. Nary a scratch on her advanced environmental suit. Marie was white and sweating. Clearly, she was no fan of knives being thrown at her either. Although in fairness, few where. "Stop him...." she whispered hoarsely at Bonfire. "Kill her!" shouted Green at Cut-throat, and aimed his hose down the staircase...
  11. Throws knife at Marie: 1d20+13 23 for Cut-throats "Surprise" knife throw (yes, I am fudging the rules a bit here). That is a solid hit, and a DC 20 Toughness Save for Marie Saves vs Knife: 1d20+12 27 She handily saves. And so we proceed to action and drama. Initiative Rolls please Initiative Rolls: 3#1d20 1 12 12 Lazy rolls by doing all three NPCs at once. With modifiers, that means: Cut-throat 5, Marie 16, and Green 14
  12. GM Marie was pale, and white. "[Don't listen to him! He is a thug!]" she said back, hoarse of voice, wide of eye. For all her other talents, Marie was not a natural liar. She had too much rage in her to do so effectively. Denial, she was clearly good at - both towards other people and herself. And right now, she was lying. "[He is just a thug with a knife! You can't trust him! You can't trust anybody!" she implored. Even with her goggles on, her eyes seemed to widen so far that they might pop. "I just might fancy a knife like that" said Cut-throat, a glint his eye. "But, ya' know, I ain't about flashy bling. I ain't about money. The cut-throat gang. We is about respec!" he snarled, turning nasty. "And we ain't gettin no respec' from you!" he said, now pointing his knife at Green. "So after I gut lil' H-Bomb here, I'll be sticking you too. Then I'll see if you got anything worth takin'...." He turned his eyes and his knife back to Marie. "Little miss H-bomb, see, I gotta thank her. She taught me that the Cut-throats ain't ever gonna be for sale again. From now on, anything worth havin', we is takin!" he declared, defiantly.
  13. Up to you and your role playing. It could be something like freezing, or being unable to shift into fire/smoke form. But ultimately its up to you and your concept! Focussing on the knife wielding thug is unlikely to earn an HP straight away, as you say, but you never know, it might become so (for instance, if something much more important comes up and he cant switch his focus of attention).
  14. Ok, so enough to not antagonise Cut-throat, who now just treats you as neutral. But not enough to pull him over to your natural cool. Also, you may wish to activate your knife-phobia if you wish; if so, note down on this thread how it is going to screw you over (other thank just feeling scared). Its, almost as if the GM had planned the knife phobia / Cut-throat thing from the beginning, huh?
  15. GM Cut-throat paused, pulling out a knife. It was not particularly sharp, but it was sharp enough. It was not particularly glinting, but it was obviously made of steel. In short, it was a knife that screamed out "I don't need to be flashy. I just need to stab people. And I do". He was not the sharpest knife in the set, was Cut-throat. He was just damn good with them. "What?" he shouted back, taking another few steps upwards. "Does it look like we deal in that kind of junk?" he asked. In this regard, it should be noted he did not. It looked like he dealt in chemicals. Particular sorts of chemicals. "Lady H Bomb there"...he pointed at Marie, who had gone white, with his knife. "She hired my gang. Didn't pay me. And you end up arresting half of them. Not to mention three of them have died from nuke-lee-arr-poy-sonn-ing..." he struggled over the words. It was a bit of a mouthful for Cut-throat. "Now, she gets to know what happens when you stab the Cut-throats in the back...." he said. He drew a line over his neck with his knife. It was an expert cut. It drew a few drops of blood. Just for the effect. From above, Green yelled back. "Buddy, you slit her throat, I'll buy you a gold knife studded with a diamond as big as ya' fist". One could hear the smirk on his face. Cut-throat clenched his empty hand. He had a very big fist indeed.
  16. I think a straightforward CHA roll here - diplomacy would take too long but confidence and presence counts.
  17. Hi, If they fit and you feel they have a good story. Highway Robbery or The Klaw of Benidiction: Lord Steam (depending on if you fancy chase or detective work) Thank God its Thursday: Red Rat (because I love 70s Disco theme, and the Red Rat is old school bond). What Should not be Unearthed: Flintlock Of all of those, the best fit I can see is Flintlock, as it sounds pretty much like a Cthullhu / Unspeakable one thread. Flintlock would almost certainly be proactive in anything to do with Unspeakable one / Serpent people / etc. PS: Didnt I do a thread for Foreshadow in Rio some years back? (Cinco por Cinco) PPS: Didnt I have something to do with Purple Haze a year back? - also, any thread set in Sweden / Stockholm has a place in my heart, but another day! Well done for GMing.
  18. GM From below: Up the stairs came a thug. A big man - broad and wide. He must have been well over six foot, bare chested, bandana wearing. Tattoos' and scars. He was a massive combination of arms as thick as your head and a fat that was both voluminous but with a certain rigidity to it. He was carrying a knife. With a flash, Bonfire recalled him. The boss of the Cut-throat gang, Cut-throat himself. The man had a reputation as a fierce leader and expert with a knife. Now it hit him, the thugs that had set fire below. Members of the Cut-throat gang. The very gang he had foiled just before he met Marie. The same tattoos. They carried no guns. But knives, they had. From above: "I knew you would come, pigs!" shouted Green from the very top floor, five stories above. His voice was unchanged, clear, echoing down the staircase. He was dressed in heavy armour and his gun to his hip. In his hands, a hose - or at least, what looked like a hose if it was built by a team of super-scientists. Flashing with cold blue light, its snake like tubing winding its way to the unseen top floor. "Bonfire! How this terrorist dragged you into this, I don't know. She is a murdered, a madwoman, a menace! And most importantly, a thief! We don't tolerate thieves at Neutron Industries!" he yelled down at the fiery hero.
  19. I had planned for someone else to be coming up the stairs (whilst Green appears at the top) - is this ok?
  20. "Smoking stuff!" said Doctor Warp, looking at his hands and the others. Normally, he conceded, the mysterious smoke would have rendered the visible, invisible. But his eyes...his eyes were as warped as his body, seeing the smallest things, and smaller than the smallest things too. The imperfections in the atoms, the distortions in the quantum foam...he could see the warped figures of the three heroes. "Well then, let us take a look through the windows!" Picking up the Eternal Dragon and Bonfire, he stretched himself to the upper windows, floor by floor, for the three of them to peer into...
  21. Without a second thoughts, Pitch forced the churning metal spikes to the ground, and beyond. She had a nauseated feeling of guilt rise, and she violently swallowed it and repressed it. No, instead she limped towards the tree, towards Billy. He was to far for her to reach, damn her spine. "Hold on, Billy!" she roared, smoke and flames flowering from her breath. She feared for the young man poised on splintering wood. Things hung by a fragile thread. She gave a half turn, propped on her cane, and threw a stream of blistering black tumbling shards of metal at the hellhounds, like a terrible terrible burst from her assault rifle.
  22. MOve action: Move Standard Action, Throw some metal at the hellhounds - those she can. Its autofire so ill trust your judgement about whom she can reach with that. Taking 10 on attack roll (fatigued now, but hopefully still enough).
  23. How far is Billy from Pitch?
  24. "Wha...wha...wha...Agh f'taghn Leng!" spluttered Flintlock, waking up in a start. "That's cold! Although I have had colder waters" she conceded, patting down her wet hair and wet clothes. She seemed less drunk. But still drunk. "Whose the wench?" she asked Grimalkin, flicking a thumb at Gretchen. She did, however, not wait for an answer. "Now why did I come here? Ah! Yes!" she stood up straight with barely a wobble, although a wobble there most definitely was. "A horror beyond imagining dwells in the sea below seas, asleep and slumbering, or dead, if such concepts apply to the inconceivable! Dagon! Dagon! The alien god of the deep ones! And he must not awaken!" she said, clutching onto Grimalkins clothes for emphasis and balance. "And yet, there are those that seek to awaken this mad god! The rites found in the Cthaat Aquadinge! a book of human skin and terrible sorcery! So tell me, do you have this tome?" she asked.
  25. GM The stairs were empty, cold, and empty. True, the glass sparkled, the steel was shiny, and the plastic steps had a soulless cleanliness to them, but there was no rush of guards. No laser beams. No killer robots. At least for now. Instead, a beat of serenity. Three floors up, and with Marie just starting to lose her puff, Bonfire heard the echo of footsteps below them. Nothing to see, but just the sound of footsteps. Not hurried, but not slow either. "Ignore them..." said Marie. "We must press on! The mission!" she glared at Bonfire. Up ahead, two floors to go, was the Nuetronium reactor. And surely, Green. It would be no surprise to anyone if steel and lasers were up there too.
