  1. Fine by me!
  2. Hi everybody, As you may know I have become quite into Lovecraft (his stories and RPGs). I am casting around if anybody would like to do a Superhero/CoC mashup, using an alt (say PL 8) version of their PC set in Lovecraft-alt universe (1920s Freedom City). If you are interested, can commit to (reasonably frequent posting, and don't mind (or, preferably, want to) exploring the juxtaposition of powerful superhero (compared to humanity as a whole) with being, on balance, pretty helpless against the horrors of the elder gods, then please sign up! I have some basic ideas about how to mimic Sanity and so on in M&M, which is kind of necessary for this kind of thing, but it will still be M&M, still be Freedom City (albeit in an alt universe / different era), and still be (sort of!) Superheroes (more Golden Age style, but still!). Will be using a lot of CoC type stuff though (dread texts, creeping insanity, sort of detective type focus). Insane superheroes kind of interests me! Looking for 2-3 players.
  3. Not sure how many people are on the ship as I think we left it a bit grey? I have no preference (as long as its not dozens) so whatever suits the story best I guess?
  4. Dune..desert planet... Starshot shook the cobwebs out of his head. All in all, it had gone better than he had thought. They were still alive, for one thing. The impact had jarred his head, though. All he can think of, for one moment, was sand - endless rolling sand. That would make things harder, if they had indeed crashed on a desert world. Water, for one thing. He hoped the ATV would be salvageable. He flipped the comms, hoping they still worked. "Damage report! And that goes for people as well as ship!" he ordered.
  5. Flintlock Flintlock had drank, danced, and fought in Freedom City through the ages, but the city looked half alien to her now. "Glass and steel!" she yelled at the skyscrapers, to the amusement of passers by who though her either a performance artist or mad. "I need a drink! I see better when I drink!" she wagered, which was half true. She found the horrible rituals and rites of the Yellow Sign less oily and bleak when she was drunk. She strode into a run down bar habited by a few old drunks and a few downtrodden businessmen. "Who will by me a drink?" she asked, full of swagger and sauce.
  6. GM The man, and his urn, had a black and bloody magic to them, of that there was no mistake. It burned like acrid smoke, and Shrike found the whole view unpalatable, to say the least. It was hard to look at the urn, something inside was reeking. To the helm of truth, a horrible number of wispy threads were pouring forth from the urn, like oil in water, a thick, ghastly and dark oil. These invisible but seen threads wound there way eastwards, into the ocean.. "Ah, I must have been mistaken...." said the customer, eyes like obsidian glass. "I shall have to find the references another way. I believe the British Library has a copy, although I do not wish a trip to such a dismal and wet land. But! if you do find the book arrives, please let me know...." He passed a almost blank card, with just a telephone number on.
  7. GM Black Heart of Dagon (GM and Player) 3 posts as GM Flintlock Black Heart of Dagon 2 Posts Reputations (+1 PP?) 20Q (+1 PP?) Starshot Crash on Volturnus 2 Posts Pest Control 3 Posts Guest Star Two threads, but ill plead both valid as essentially its the same story just split up. Devil in the Dark 11 Posts Devils Journey 2 Posts Priority: Starshot, Flintlock, Red Rat. I think that means apply 13 Posts of Pitch as Guest Star to Starshot (18 Posts total), and the GM posts wont add anything on top, so just send them to Red Rat and Doctor Warp for +1 PP each please!
  8. Carmen took the thanks graciously, with some satisfaction. The state of her companions health had weighed on her. And some good news lifted her spirits. But more than that...a bicycle! Quaint it might be, but it would be a lot easier than walking. A paralysed foot would make it awkward, but not impossible. And yet that limitation would gall, and be dangerous. As reluctant as she was too put Billy in danger - he was in danger anyway. And time was not be thrown away glibly. "That would help, Billy, it would help us all. But its hell out there, possibly literally. We are all in peril, and I appreciate your bravery..." No opt out clause. If he wanted to go, that was his choice. He wasn't so stupid he didn't know what was out there, and what risks he would be taking.
  9. "Drugs?" smirked Carmen. She was not a novice to drugs, but had cleaned up her act since getting a "proper" job at the Rock Report. Even riding with the biker gangs of her youth, she had stayed off the hard stuff. But right now, some smooth Vicodin would hit the mark. "No..." she grunted as an afterthought. "I have to keep my wits about me. I'll rest later" She strapped her splint to her leg and gripped her cane. "Right now, I should follow this..." she explained, holding out the stone that pulled. "The crew here, they are too exhausted to follow. Maybe I am too, but I can't wait around..."
  10. "Where theres life there hope" said Starshot to the sensors, bleeping at the life signs. What type of life was another question altogether, of course. He turned his attention back to the ship and the crash. Too many bleeps. Too many flashing lights. Too many spinning dials. And not enough control... Doing his best to mitigate the inevitable, he braced for impact...
  11. Character Name Doctor Warp Power Level: 10/12 (192/192) Unspent Power Points: 0 Trade-Offs: None In Brief: Supergenius with superdimensional body Alternate Identity: Professor Erasmus Bolt (Not secret) Birthplace: Montreal, Canada Residence: Freedom City Occupation: Wealthy Scientist Affiliations: None Family: Meredith Bolt (Genius astronaut sister), Archibald Bolt (Genius lawyer judge), Ruby Bolt (Neurologist Wife), Verity Bolt (Elderly infirm mother). Description: Age: 45 Apparent Age: 45 Gender: Male Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 4’6” Weight: 1250Kgs Eyes: Blue Hair: Balding / Receding Brown Erasmus Bolt is a short, fat, ugly man who cares not a hoot. He wears a deliberately silly superhero costume highlighting his obesity, a green and red spandex number complete with cape and mask. History: Erasmus and his siblings inherited, by a fortunate mix of genes, incredible intelligence. His younger sister became an astrophysicist and astronaut, and his older brother a brilliant lawyer and later judge. Erasmus was smarter than even his genius siblings, but (unlike them), also grew up to be a short, fat, and ugly. Instead, Erasmus went on to become a scientist and engineer, and he was brilliant at it. Patenting several marvellous inventions (“True Stainless steel! You never have to wash it!”, and “Invisicloth! You can’t even see it!” – the latter of which is best not discussed) Erasmus has made his multi-millions. Experimenting with household-level teleportation devices (“Zoom-o-matic – get to work instantly!”) Erasmus exposed himself to super high levels of dimensional lensing. What should have fried his nervous system instead changed his body, permanently. Armed with his new super powers, Erasmus named himself “Doctor Warp” and aims to defy the world – an ugly short man can be a hero! Personality & Motivation: Doctor Warp (“Warpy”) is a genius, and has (rightly) been accused of arrogance. He is not contemptuous, and does not mock others, but does feel (again, probably rightly) that he is intellectually superior to the rest of the world. He does not have much time for fools, and has an ironic, almost absurdist, outlook on life. As Erasmus, he has a nominal academic status, and still enjoys science. He has a solid relationship with his wife, Doctor Ruby Bolt (in her own right, a skilled physician); they adore and respect each other (for differing but pertinent reasons). Despite, or perhaps because, of his unpalatable physique, he is pretty confident, and if mocked, just gives a wry, knowing smile or retort. Doctor Warp is motivated by wanting to make a difference to the world, to lift it out of the dark ages of violence, ignorance, and stupidity. He is also motivated to make his wife proud of him; to some degree, she is his moral centre. Powers & Tactics: Doctor Warp is a brawler, albeit one with a difference. He stretches his body, dancing around and striking from range. He can use his powers in interesting ways, and uses his environment to his advantage. Doctor Warp is extremely strong and dense, difficult to move and impervious to much harm. His fists hit with extreme force. He can also “warp” his body; which actually means just shortening the distances around his body, so that (from an outsiders stance) his limbs stretch out hundreds of feet. He can also use this dimensional warping on his eyes, so that he can see both far away and at a sub-atomic level. This effect also allows him to see any minute distortions (so he can see invisible things and through visual illusions). Finally, Doctor Warp is a genius, both in intelligence and insight. He is an expert in physical sciences and technology of all sorts. Power Descriptions: Doctor Warps obvious power is elongating his limbs. In actual fact, they do not elongate, he merely shortens the space around them. The power looks like a distortion of space, which can be slightly nauseating if examined closely. Complications: Ugly: Dr Warp’s first impressions are not good, he looks ugly and ridiculous. He owns this, so won’t be taunted by it, but on the other hand the initial reaction might be less than inspiring and the plebs may well (and often do not) take him seriously (at least at first). Numb: Because of high density, Doctor Warps’ sense of touch is significantly impaired (but not completely absent). He might, for instance, be easy to pick pocket or plant bugs on. Warped Vision: Although he has supervision, any effect that involves warping of space-time (or the like) can also be highly nauseating for him. Universal Anomaly: More than just his physical appearance, the dimensional lensing of his body, even at rest, is unpleasant for other dimensional things (of the right / GM type). Warping (elongating) his body only makes it more unpalatable. Such creatures (or people) would be ill disposed to Doctor Warp at best, considering him a dangerous aberration. Infamy/Fame: Doctor Warp’s household inventions have made him a household name. Some of his works have had unfortunate hiccups. He could encounter anything from an obsessive fan, to an angry housewife/husband, to an aggressive business rival. 13. "Demons...and something else" replied Carmen, slumping on a leather couch and massaging her temples. Her clothes were ripped and torn and she had more than one scratch, cut, and scrape. Still, all things considered she had come out pretty well. Her only real problem was her foot, paralysed and numb, and red raw from the splint she wore. Much more walking and she would ulcerate. That was a risk already. Taking off her splint she soaked her leg in salty water, fresh from the kitchen. There was not time to rest, but she would make the most of the time she had. Probably needed to bandage her leg up, if there was linen enough to spare. "A sorcerer. And this..." she explained, revealing the stone the wizard had left. "I can feel it pulling somewhere. Maybe a clue. Maybe a way out of here. But I'm running dry. I cant keep on hiking through this island. Not with my leg. Damn, what I'd give for a motor or a horse!"
  14. Tagging, and ill see if anything comes up on the Xeno's sensor array - which is pretty handy. Sensor Array Notice: 1d20+10 22 Of course it may not be a notice roll, so if not just replace the +10 with whatever seems reasonable (Search would be +2, Life Sciences +6, Earth Sciences +2) and keep the 12 roll I guess. Probably some penalties for being in a spinning ship and/or range (although -1 per 20 miles is pretty good range on the sensor array). Mainly looking for a safe place to land (radar) and if there is any bodies of water. I guess life signs and energy signs too, but secondary.
  15. "Well, we won't be spinning around much longer. One way or another!" said a grim faced Starshot as the ship span. He was a fair pilot, but this wasn't something he could hold together. He did his best to keep the ship riding through the atmosphere, and glanced at the sensor array, punching up a few buttons. "Buckle up back there!" he shouted at the crew. "And put on your space suits, just in case!" If they could... Perhaps abandoning ship would be best, launching the lifeboats. But there was no way of knowing if that would be more dangerous.
  16. "I trust you" said Oskar, in reply, and simply. He kept trigger ready, as per Seika's advice. "All out in the open here. Easy to be seen, but not easy to see. I don't like it, but I can't see we have any other choice". He reasoned, and started the climb upwards, following the mud. "Lets just get to the jungle above. As fast as possible!"
  17. Ill throw Flintlock in - the Hitchcock Birdwoman sounds most interesting!

  19. "There is no road from here that is without risk or consequence" replied Canto, irritable at the predicament. Pedro would be safer with her. And yet the stone was calling. She wiped her brow. She felt dirty, and not in a good way. Perhaps then, with every path a potential torture, this was not a decision for the head, but the heart. Archeron had died because of her; because protecting her identity was more important than saving a mans life. She needed Pedro to live. To feel clean. Or at least, cleaner. "I'm not leaving Pedro, or any of you. Not with the skies and waters filled with fire" she explained. "Let us rest and go back to the mansion. From there, onwards again. Maybe Archeron has a stable and a horse". It was not so serious a suggestion, but you never knew with a crazy rock recluse. She half imagined he had stables, but half imagined it would have goats, camels, and kangeroos in it rather than anything that could be ridden.
  20. Starshot flipped his helmet over his head, the machine expanding to encase it totally. He felt his cybernetics kick in, whirring and buzzing to cool him in the heat. He still felt the sweat on his body, just cold now. The HUD flickered onto his eyes. He started to scan the hills, his vision magnified. An IR and UV overlay. "Whatever it is, I guess its big. Its certainly heavy. Unless it has uranium bones or something, it's big" he said to Seika and himself. He unslung Trigger, rolling the strap so the gun came to his chest. Something scratched his spine. Something exciting. "Guess we have a hike a head. Even a climb, maybe, if it gets too steep...the problem is, which way to go?"
  21. Pitch wandered the motley crew. Every rifle she picked up she handled with smoke and fumes, seeping from her hands into the machines. Infernal oil. "Juice for your guns" she explained. "Start firing and it will ignite. Don't worry, won't eat your soul or anything, just give the gun a bigger kick". She was worried about Pedro, but what could she do? Did the mysterious island even have a hospital? The best she could think of was the mansion of the deceased rock star. Perhaps some antibiotics, maybe even an IV line. But unlikely to have a trauma surgeon. "Best we bring Pedro back to the house of Archeron" she ventured. "At least he would be comfortable there. Maybe even somebody around who can help him, at least, better than we can". "But then, we need to find a way off this island. And I bet that's not going to be easy..."
  22. Wearily, Carmen helped patch up the wounded, and she did so with care. She had tended to a few cuts and scrapes after the odd bar room brawl, and even nursed the odd lover from a beating or two. She was hardly a stranger to the sight of blood, but she was no friend to it either. She did her best. Which basically meant being there. She risked letting the smoke and heat dissipate. It was no environment for resting, and besides, she had her attention elsewhere. Hopefully bricks and mortar would cover them; for now. She kept an eye open for something wicked, in case this way it came.
  23. 20 Questions 1. Where is your hero from? Holland 2. How would your hero physically describe him/herself? Is this different from how others would? A beautiful pirate captain. Others might say the same, or similar. 3. Does your hero have distinguishing speech characteristics or recurring mannerisms? A strange European accent. 4. What is your hero's motivation? Hunt out the cult of the Yellow Sign. Treasure and rum and song. Adventure. A pirate’s life. 5. What are your hero's greatest strengths and weaknesses? Charm and wit are her greatest strengths, counterpoised by a weakness for Rum and Gold. 6. What does your hero love? What does your hero hate? Flintlock loves her crew, in a loyal sort of way. People, in a general sort of way. Her lovers through the ages and seas, in a romantic sort of way. She hates draconian ways, cultists, the authorities, boring people, and cruelty. 7. How would you describe your character's mental and emotional state? Fun loving hedonist who is a little insane, thanks to contact with elder things who should not be contacted. 8. What does your hero fear the most? The great elder gods of the outer stars. 9. What is your character's greatest ambition? Fame and fortune 10. How does your hero feel about the state of the world and his/her place in it? Something of a misfit, which means she travels far and wide. 11. Does your hero have any prejudices? How does he/she get along with others? Very well to individuals, less so to systems. 12. Where do your heroes loyalties lie? In what order? There is no order. Her crew, herself, people, treasure. There may well be conflict of loyalties. 13. Does your hero have a lover or partner? How do they feel about the hero now? A lover in every (well, many) ports, not just on this plane of existence. 14. Does your hero have a family? What is the relationship there like? Not any longer. 15. How would the people closest to your hero describe him or her? A wild woman with a serious streak. 16. Is your hero a role model? No. Unless you want to be a Pirate Witch. Which is unlikely. 17. How spiritual is your hero? Does your hero follow a religious tradition? Very spiritual, no religion or belief in monotheism. Distrusts anything to do with Gods. 18. Is your hero part of a team, or would he/she like to be? Why? No, but might be. A bit to mercurial in practice? 19. How does your hero feel about the place of metahumans and aliens on Earth? Slightly suspicious, but not antagonistic. Perhaps intrigued? 20. If you could give one piece of advice to your hero, what would it be? Proceed with caution when unleashing the things from beyond!
