  1. Casting over this: 1. I like the character, I like the crossbow! (Maybe he should have rage feat and be a true cross bow.....) 2. Complications "No powers" is not a complication. There is no conceivable way this would trigger an HP. Having no powers is the build. If you have an idea how, then probably best to give an example. But "Not spending PP on a power" would, in principle, never be a complication. 3. On that note, the complications here are a spartan meal for a GM. This is not a problem, in itself, as complications are a personal thing, a matter of taste. They are writing in a loss of control and problems for your PC, whereas you may feel inclined for the PC to stay in control. 4. The major issue I see is he is not meeting offensive power caps (only PL 6). really, at this juncture, he should meet PL 7 offensive caps. 5. I would suggest looking at the base attack bonus. An average soldier has a +5 attack bonus. Without his crossbow he is less skilled in combat that your average soldier. Disarmed, he has an effective PL 3 offence, and with a ST of 14, he is fairly easy to disarm. I would suggest, personally, buying base attack bonus of +5, and then either ranged attack at +9, or crossbows at rank +9 6. In the same vein, I would suggest 1 rank of equipment feat to buy a simple back up weapon, be it a tonfa, set of throwing knives, or even weighted gloves. Its a cheap way of not becoming very weak instantly when disarmed. 7. The obscure power, by default, is sustained, meaning you have to keep on taking a free action every round to maintain it, and it will go whenever you change array. The usual way of simulating a smoke grenade / bolt / whatever is to give it the independent extra (+0), perhaps with a rank of slow fade. 8. I would be inclined to drop the strike power (have a back up equpiment melee weapon, and you can always blast at melee range). Use that extra point for another ranged attack (such as a knockout poison dart), or add a feat like improved critical to the basic powers. 9. The above needs PP. I think you can shave some points helpfully: Concentration is fairly unneeded if you have no sustained or concentration powers. you could probably shave a few other points (such as climb) too. Quick change is an odd feat without some fluff to acompany it (and our house rules on quick change means doing without this feat is not crippling). Quick Draw is not really needed in practice, and if perhaps odd for a crossbow user! 10. As for the scope, this is cool, but note it will not work in total darkness (you could always buy some night vision goggles as equipment, I suppose!) Looks fun!
  2. Lord Steams mind raced, trying to keep ahead of the game whilst processing the shock. Truth was, he did not know where he was. He had drunk a little to much fine champagne. "Asleep, here. Nice and quiet like any respectable gentleman" he lied. He was in up to his neck anyway, being caught out lying would not worsen his predicament any. And if they knew he was lying, then he would know something about what they knew. "As for the steam powered revolver..." he paused. Was it his? He had one, and so did Blakely. And he had several spares in Steam Manor. His own design, and effective too, although the British Army in his home dimension used inferior quality ones. Could his have been stolen? Could Blakelys? Or one of his spares? "I have no explanation as I have not seen the evidence in question. It would be most tardy of me to speculate. I conclude" he said, confidently. "Perhaps mine was stolen? I have several, you know. All with appropriate licenses. Hmph, in my home, one would not ask a license from a gentleman. A gentleman's word would suffice". He was not sure he wanted to drag the good detective into inter-dimensional issues, at least not yet. He was, after all, supposed to be a diplomat from Earth Victoriana. If this dimension found out about some crook from his own, or the passage of weapons, then he would at least try to tidy up the mess with the minimum of, or better still, no, publicity.
  3. Soviet is being the superior of thickness. Post that stuff away guys. I presume you are being dead quiet yourselves!
  4. I will just pitch in to say HG, you really, really, do not need to apologise. The whole site is wishing you and your family the best, and it goes without saying that your late posts will be counted.
  5. Signing up! EDIT: Unfortunately Red Rat is Hungarian, though
  6. Notice (hearing) check please, DC 10 Them be voices in room. DC 20 Them be three voices in room, one is being the Blonsky. DC 30....if you get it, I will let you be the knowing! -2 Situational bonus for listening through door (unless you have penetrates hearing supersense! )
  7. GM With a snip here, and a snip there, and an expert dismantling of an old, slightly rusty, Russian lock, the pair where in. K gladly stepped back, waiting in the beat up car, chain smoking. Outside the window, a testament to his nervous state - a scattering of but ends, littered around like shells from a machine gun. The inside of the building was no shock. Dark, draughty, cracked. The windows were small and dirty. There was no light. Power seemed spartan and sporadic. Filing cabinets, some knocked over. Devoid of paper or incriminating evidence. Old chairs and old tables, even old computers, archaic and long since redundant and broken. Old telephones, old lighting, old doors and old piping. Everything was old and in featureless bleak grey. Except one room. "Special Operations" This door was locked, and there was light coming out of the basement. The lock was better, but looked no match for Synapses skill...
  8. We have made a minor, and optional change, to character sheets. Three new items are added in the beginning section. These are: Residence: (Optional) Where the character normally resides / lives (if anywhere). Base of Operations: (Optional) Where the character primarily operates (e.g. Headquarters location), if anywhere. Catchphrase: (Optional) e.g. "Its Clobberin' Time", "By the Power Cosmic!", "Hulk Smash!" etc. You need not use any of these. However, the first two are useful reference points for threads and players, and are very recommended to help everybody (even, potentially, yourself). The third is purely for fun, but is also comic-book awesome! Please consider these for any new PC/NPC submission. If you are making character edits, also consider using these in the next update (we would rather not edit a sheet just to include this, as the ref team are lazy oafs, but you may wish to consider adding them in next time you add in a few extra PP spent!)
  9. Archived at player request
  10. Ill set this up once Thunder decides who is most appropriate!
  11. Change to Non Canon and Retired PC post counts. Aka "Special Edition / Guest Starring..." By default, using a retired PC, or being involved in a non-canon post (such as "What if" or "Alternative Versions of...") means that posts are worth 1/2 of normal. The reason for this has been to stop over-use of such threads. Unfortunately, despite them being a comic book staple, the effect has been to effectively completely stop them. Therefore, each month, you are allowed to nominate one, and only one of your threads as either a "Special Edition" (For a non-canon thread), or "Guest starring..." (when featuring a retired PC) and have it counted for full. This can be a different thread every month. If you have more than one thread that is non-canon or features a retired PC, you can still have these posts counted, as previously, and they will be worth 1/2 of normal. For "What if" or non-canon special edition threads, posts should be allocated to the PC (or alternative version) you are using for that thread. When using a retired PC in a Guest Edition thread, nominate one PC that all the posts are transferred to as a block. For GM posts in a special edition thread, posts are added to the total GM count (Which can be split and divided as you wish)
  12. Post away, whatever narrative you like!
  13. Assuming you wish to do this, Search rolls for looking around the site for cameras and the like. Disable Device rolls for dismantaling alarms locks etc. For reference DC 15 Search for all the cameras and alarms. DC 20 Disarm Trap to dismantle them without anyone know. DC 20 To break the locks. Of course, Stealth rolls might also be wise if you do not dismantle the alarms...or even if you do. You may wish to take 20, but on the other hand, what is happening inside....? Taking 10 is fine. All other tactics of cleverness, post em!
  14. GM "Tools? Is the for sure! Come and seeing...good solid Russian tools!" K opened up the boot of the care. It was a bit stiff, but a kick soon sorted that out. In the boot was a jumble of workmen tools, and some tools which were for perhaps a different type of work. Bolt cutters, screwdrivers, crowbars. All completely disorganised. "You are for a bit of the dagger and cloak, yes? Here, we have tools of the trading!" he smiled, bringing up some bolt cutters and giving them a loving pincer movement. "If Old KGB building, then most the likely, nothing be works. But better to be being safe than sorry, yes?" he said with a big wink at Synpase. The building was indeed old, with some old security around it. It was indeed very hard to see if the old, rusted cameras were on or not.
  15. If you beat 15, post away getting patted down, and taking your seat! (and grabbing any drinks or salted nuts if you wish!)
  16. EDIT: Note that there are free drinks. Obviously to make people reckless! If you want to get drunk (The sickened status on you, although may be some bonuses for resisting intimidate or the like!) do so for an HP.
  17. Right, so it is rub-down time. For reference the rules are p134 of core book. Essentially any concealed items need a sleight of hand roll. This will be matched by the security mans search roll, and +4 bonus for patting down, meaning a +5 roll over all. I will say he takes a 10 on this, which means you have to oppose a DC 15 check. Of course other tactics and options may apply, this is just the base pat down.
  18. GM "Ladies and Gentlemen, the first round is about to begin. Please take your seats" The compere was simply the thinnest man anyone had seen. He was tall, too. About fifty, bald, with bulging blue eyes. He wore the most impressively cut black tie, and pressed his hands together in an almost subservient manager. "I have been tasked with comparing the evenings entertainment. Please, do follow me..." The upstairs level was now open. A magnificent green table was open to all. The thin man took his seat, obeserving the events with unblinking eyes. "Do please have a drink at the bar...." he indicated the handomse upper level bar, full of the most expensive drinks, and a beautiful dark skinned hostess, who wheeled around the drinks with precision and skill. "All drinks are on the house courtesy of the master of the High Stakes..." he smiled. There were six other people at the green table, but first off... There were also five men. Well dressed. Very well dressed. But nothing could detract from the fact these guys were guns for hire. Not your regular thugs either. For a venue like this, with money like this, these guys would be nothing but elite ex special forces. They were big men, fit men, but not stupid either, with eyes like hawks. And one of the men was giving everyone a rub down for weapons as they came up the stairs to the top table.
  19. GM A little later... It had not taken long. With K's surveillance equipment it was easy to follow. It was night, there was rain, and even a slight mist in the very early morning hours. Russia in winter had long nights. Doctor Zero and Blonsky were quiet once they entered the Zero Car. It was a slick, smooth, and quiet car. Putting the UAZ 469B to shame. Still, it was not a race. Doctor Zero drove at a measured, controlled pace. The building they drove into was almost faceless concrete. A relic of cold war featureless concrete. It had a built in garage, and a flimsy metal sheet that folded down behind them. "Blast" cursed K, throwing down his ear piece. "We be losing them! No the signal!" He peered at the concrete building. "Old concrete. Being Soviet Building. Most the likelihood, is being KGB...." The building was ugly, and whilst it may have been robust a few decades back, now it looked decaying and slightly crumbly, in serious need of refurbishment.
  20. Exploring the Safehouse: Develop Mind and Body the Good. The next spoke of the hub was divided into two sections."Develop Mind and Body" said the serious Russian caption overhead. Noemi had loved to read when she was younger. It drove her to university, and she devoured classics of literature, fiction and non-fiction, with equal relish. Even now, she loved a good book. Or a newspaper in the morning. In Hungary, that consumption of literature had given away to anarchist sentiment and revolutionary zeal against the Soviet regime. She had started to read less, and shout more. Which, she reflected, did not end well. Now, the rough edges had been shaved off by experience. The Safehouse had an impressive library, of European, Russian, and American history, written in mainly English and Russian. A few German and Eastern European texts were there. Glancing through the tomes, her fingers touching the books, she suspected there was some censorship, as could be expected. Some tomes were marked with a sticker to indicate some kind of caution or note that it might be Capitalist propaganda. Still, the set up had clearly decided that reference materials needed to be accurate first, politically correct, second. Alongside these, were various books on medicine, psychology, sociology, and so on. A focus, she suspected, on how to manipulate and control individual and population. Opening a book at random, she saw it was well preserved, if old. A stamp on the inner cover said “Grin and Bear It!†with a happy smiling bear reading a book. The dilapidated building above her must have been used to fill the Safehouse. At the end of the Library was a small computer, and banks and banks of microfilm. Inspecting it herself, she saw it was quite serviceable, and with a little help from Slave, she could improve it further, storing electronic journals and reference materials. Further on, there was an area of metal and steel, the gymnasium. The agents down here were presumably encouraged to develop both body and mind. Racks of dull grey weights and some complicated benches with pulleys and weights. Some old, but functional running and rowing machines. Even a few gymnastic apparatus. Noemi was a regular gym user. Not hours a day, but five days a week, solid hour. Her body was able to adapt and recover quickly, giving her an impressive strength. She worked for it, but she would have to admit, she worked less hard than others would have to. A gym here was the first sign of luxury she could actually appreciate. It would save on her gym membership, for one thing.
  21. Carmen tensed up the moment she saw the punk head. She could only imagine that he had been possessed. Normally, in such circumstances, she would use the Cantos devil stick to perform an exorcism. Where was that stick? Infernal device as it was, dangerous and unreliable. It was still hers. Something about it drew her to it, and visa versa. “Well good luck, handsome. I heard the hospital food sucks†she replied, keeping cool. Drawing the boy out, hopefully dropping its guard. “I never did catch your name. And I don’t mean the one sewn on to your socks. Your real name†she said, pressing, taunting. She kept her hands by her sides, for now. She felt the edge of anger and rage, and nurtured it, boiled it. Ready to unleash it as metal, smoke, and fire, if she needed too…the odds were not exactly in her favour, on morphine, broken leg. But she was sure ready to give a fight and go down fighting if she had any choice in the matter.
  22. GM The sky fell away as Asad plummeted to earth. The nuclear inferno had been a flash of light and heat in the sky, but far enough into the thin air of the stratosphere to ensure that Freedom City was safe. The prince was no more. His body was burnt in a fraction of an instant, completely atomised. For all the Fission Chips power, they did not make the flesh stronger. From the sounds of it, they slowly destroyed it…background radiation killing the host. Like a meteor, or falling star, Asad descended, leaving a trail of light for all to see. Around Freedom City, eyes had turned skyward to see the inferno, and fingers were pointed at the falling, glowing, Asad. They could not make him out, just a descending point of light and heat. And there was fear, and there was panic. With a splash, Asad fell into the Freedom City Great Bay. It was not only the impact, but the heat, that caused a flare. Alongside the noise and the sprayed water, steam flew into the air…water that had instantly evaporated from the heat. The cool water and impact jolted into the now nuclear Asad, waking him up slowly…
  23. I made a few minor edits to format. APPROVED!
  24. Just a note: Off camera, as per Tsunamis suggestion, the passengers are assembling by the life boats and boarding. Not a quick process, of course, but happening! I didnt quite fancy posting that off camera, but if any heroes go on deck or fly about, ofeel free to narrate this!
